WotLK Herbalism 1-450 Guide
Herbalism Upgrade in WoW Classic WotLK, ExpCarry Guide
Herbalism is one of the few gathering professions available to players in WotLK Classic. As a practitioner of this profession, your focus will be on gathering resources rather than crafting items. The herbs you gather are most commonly used in Alchemy to create various potions, elixirs, and flasks.
Upon learning herbalism from a profession trainer, a new ability called "Find Herbs" will appear in your skill book. This ability allows you to track the location of herbs on the mini-map in close proximity to your character. This skill greatly simplifies the search for plant spawn points and accelerates the collection of resources.
The best class for Herbalism is the Druid, as they are capable of gathering herbs in both Flight Form and Swift Flight Form, thus eliminating the need to constantly mount up after each gathering.
Unique Aspects of Herbalism in Wrath of the Lich King
Once you've acquired the Find Herbs skill, open your skill book and activate it so that the nearest plant spawn points start appearing on your mini-map. The marker for a place where you can gather herbs appears as a yellow dot.
Upon discovering a plant, gather it. However, bear in mind that not all herbs can be interacted with. The information in the tooltip, which appears when you hover your cursor over the herb, will help you understand if your profession level is high enough to gather this resource.
The color of the word "Herbalism" in the tooltip can tell you more:
- Red signals that you require a higher profession level than you currently possess to gather the plant, hence, interaction is not possible yet.
- Orange suggests that you're capable of gathering this herb, albeit there's a risk of failure. However, each successful attempt guarantees a boost in your Herbalism skill.
- Yellow denotes that you can collect this plant effortlessly. While occasional failures may occur, successful gatherings will invariably enhance your profession skill.
- Green indicates that gathering this herb is a breeze and failures are rare, however, a skill increase in Herbalism will occur with minimal probability.
Gray implies that you can collect this plant trouble-free, and your attempts will always be successful. However, collecting "gray" herbs does not ensure a skill increase in Herbalism.
How to Learn Herbalism in WoW WotLK - Profession Levels and Trainers
Herbalism encompasses several tiers of professional growth:
Apprentice and Journeyman. You can acquire basic plant gathering skills from any profession trainers stationed in your faction's capitals. Upon reaching a major city, converse with a city guard and request their guidance to locate the trainer you need. For Herbalism, choose the dialogue options "Profession Trainer" followed by "Herbalism". Consequently, a marker will appear on your map, pointing to your desired trainer's location.
Expert. To boost your herb gathering skill above 300, you must visit an Herbalism trainer in either Outland or Northrend. At these locations, you can nurture your craft up to level 375.
Artisan. To upgrade your profession beyond level 375, journey to Northrend and engage with one of the Grand Master Herbalists. You can find these NPCs at various locations detailed below. Training under these masters will empower you to elevate your craft up to level 450.

Leveling Herbalism in Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms (1-300)
Crafting Levels 1-50
Initially, you should gather Silverleaf and Peacebloom in low-level starting areas. From profession level 15, you can pick up Earthroot, which will significantly speed up the Herbalism leveling process.
- 1-50 – Peacebloom
- 1-50 – Silverleaf
- 15-50 – Earthroot
Once you reach level 50 in your profession, head to an Herbalism trainer to raise your skills to Journeyman. From this point on, you can level your profession up to 150.
Crafting Levels 50-70
To quickly level your craft from 50 to 70, focus on gathering Earthroot and Mageroyal, as they are most likely to improve your herb gathering skill.
Crafting Levels 70-100
Continue gathering Earthroot and Mageroyal, as they still provide crafting experience. In addition, you will be able to gather a new herb - Briarthorn. Make this plant your focus as each successful gathering will certainly raise your Herbalism level.
- 70-100 – Briarthorn
Crafting Levels 100-115
Having left the beginner areas, start gathering Bruiseweed. Along the way, pick up any plants that might, even with a small probability, raise your Herbalism level.
Crafting Levels 115-125
Once you reach level 115, you can gather more new herbs, significantly accelerating your crafting development.
- 115-125 – Wild Steelbloom
After you reach level 125 in Herbalism, head to the nearest profession trainer and upgrade your skills to Expert.
Crafting Levels 125-160
From level 125 in Herbalism, you will be able to gather new herbs in current level locations, which will help you develop the profession much faster. Continue gathering any herb that may improve your skill.
- 125-160 – Kingsblood
Crafting Levels 160-205
Once you've leveled your craft to 160, head to a higher-level location and start gathering other plants that may increase your Herbalism skills with varying degrees of probability. It's worth noting that immediately after 160, the profession leveling will slow down, as you will often encounter herbs that you can't gather. In this case, there are two options: return to the previous location and continue gathering herbs that will likely improve your Herbalism skill, or be patient and continue looking for plants with orange and yellow indicators.
- 160-185 – Fadeleaf
- 185-205 – Khadgar's Whisker
Once you reach level 205 in crafting, go to the city and develop your herb gathering skills with a Herbalism trainer. From this point on, you can level your profession up to 300.
Crafting Levels 205-230
From level 205 in Herbalism, we recommend heading to Tanaris. There are several types of herbs there that will allow you to level up your craft quickly.
- 205-230 – Firebloom
- 210-235 – Purple Lotus
Crafting Levels 230-300
From level 230 in Herbalism, move to the Felwood. There are many plants there that will allow you to level up the craft to 300. An alternative to Felwood is the Western and Eastern Plaguelands. However, we recommend gathering herbs specifically in Felwood, as there is a greater variety of resources there than in the Plaguelands.
Herbs you can gather up to profession level 300:
- 220-300 – Arthas' Tears
- 230-300 – Sungrass
- 250-300 – Gromsblood
- 260-300 – Golden Sansam
- 270-300 – Dreamfoil
- 280-300 – Mountain Silversage

Leveling Herbalism in Kalimdor and Outland (300-375)
In the initial locations of Outland, you can find some herbs that you've already seen in Kalimdor or Eastern Kingdoms. Continue gathering them to level up your craft a bit. - 300-325 – Blindweed

- 300-350 – Felweed
- 315-350 – Dreaming Glory
- 325-350 – Terocone

After you reach level 350 in Herbalism, head to Northrend and visit a craft trainer to become an Artisan and get the ability to level up the profession to 450.
Borean Tundra is the best location for leveling Herbalism, as there are three different types of herbs and flat terrain, so you won't have to climb mountains. If you're having trouble leveling the last levels of Herbalism in this location, move to Grizzly Hills at skill level 375.
- 350-400 – Goldclover
- 360-410 – Fire Leaf
- 375-425 – Tiger Lily
