Silicon — the Backbone Crafting Material in Star Citizen
Silicon is a common refinable non-metal used as an input in 70 crafting blueprints, more than any other mined material in Star Citizen. It comes from 172 deposits across two systems and is the least demanding rock in the game to fracture. This service delivers Silicon by volume, mined and refined, so crafting is not held up by material supply.
What You Get
- The material: the ordered quantity of refined Silicon.
- Refining handled: ore processed at a refinery, not delivered as raw rock.
- Volume pricing: quantities sized for crafting runs rather than single purchases.
Why Silicon Matters More Than Its Price Suggests
Silicon appears in 70 blueprints. Bexalite, the next most widely used material covered here, appears in 25. Nothing about the per-SCU value explains that: Silicon is cheap, common and easy to mine, and it is still the material a crafting queue runs out of first.
That changes what a Silicon order is for. Nobody buys Silicon to flip it on the commodity market. It is bought because a build list needs hundreds of SCU and mining that by hand is a week of identical runs.
What Silicon Is
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | Non-metal |
| Rarity | Common |
| Acquisition | Ship mining; also purchasable at terminals |
| Refinable | Yes — refines into Silicon |
| Deposits | 172 across two systems |
| Cluster size | 4 to 6 rocks |
| Used in blueprints | 70 |
In lore Silicon is described as a strong, brittle element with good thermal conductivity that crystallises in a diamond form.
The Easiest Rock in the Game
| Stat | Silicon | What it means at the rock |
|---|---|---|
| Resistance | −0.2 | Negative — the rock takes in laser energy faster than a neutral rock, so charging is quick |
| Instability | 50 | Very low volatility; the optimal charge window barely moves |
| Signature | ~4,700 | Strong scanner return — deposits are picked up at long range |
| Quality | 245–1000 | Standard yield range |
Negative resistance is what sets Silicon apart. Most materials resist the mining laser to some degree; Silicon absorbs energy faster than baseline, and with instability at 50 there is almost no overcharge risk to manage. Combined with clusters of four to six rocks and spawn rates above 30% on bodies like Daymar and Calliope, Silicon is the material that fills a hold fastest.
The consequence is that a Silicon run is not difficult. It is long. The cost is hours of repetition and refinery cycles, not skill at the laser.

Mine It or Buy It
Silicon is one of the materials that can be purchased at terminals as well as sold to them, which is unusual among the higher-value refinables and worth knowing before committing a mining trip.
| Mining delivery | Terminal purchase | |
|---|---|---|
| What it costs you | Nothing but the order | aUEC plus the trip to a stocked terminal |
| Best when | You need large volume and want the hours back | You need a small top-up and a terminal nearby has stock |
| Limit | None | Terminal stock, which is finite and refreshes on its own schedule |
For a top-up of a few SCU the terminal is often the sensible route. For a build list that needs hundreds, terminal stock runs out long before the requirement does.
What Else Comes Out of a Silicon Deposit
Silicon deposits carry the material at 28–78% as the primary component, with Hephaestanite appearing as a secondary at 2–5%. A volume run therefore returns a second refinable alongside the main order.
How the Service Runs
Mining is carried out manually on live servers, with VPN encryption matched to your region and legit gameplay throughout. Delivery scales with the ordered quantity; volume orders run across multiple refining cycles rather than a single session.
- Material: the ordered quantity of refined Silicon, sized for crafting runs.
- Full chain covered: mining, refining and hauling handled end to end.
- Secondaries included: Hephaestanite recovered from the same deposits.
- Account: a Star Citizen account with a Game Package.
- Cargo: enough cargo capacity for the ordered volume.
- Note: Silicon is also sold at terminals — worth checking local stock for small top-ups.
