City of Dalaran is one of the new dungeons created specifically for World of Warcraft: Forever. It takes place in the restored original Dalaran in the Alterac Mountains, where unstable arcane magic and malfunctioning constructs have turned the newly opened city into a dangerous dungeon environment.

Unlike many leveling dungeons, City of Dalaran also has a faction-specific access requirement. Make sure your character has the required dungeon access before the scheduled run or coordinate it with support before ordering.

City of Dalaran Access – Alliance and Horde

City of Dalaran is not simply entered like a normal open leveling dungeon. Blizzard has confirmed a required access questline, with a different starting point for each faction.

Alliance	Emissary Jacques in Southshore	Start An Alarming Request, then continue the Dalaran access sequence toward the sewer entrance.
Horde	Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill	Start Key to the City and Prison Break-In, then continue through the Horde access chain.

The Horde route continues through Dalaran Patrols and Blood in the Streets before reaching Heart of Disruption. The quest provides the Dalaran Sewer Key, which is used for sewer access.

Alliance follows the shorter Kirin Tor route beginning with An Alarming Request and then meets the Image of Archmage Modera near Dalaran for the corresponding Heart of Disruption progression.

Because the exact entry path differs between factions, confirm your character's access state before the run. Dungeon access progression is not automatically included in the base dungeon clear unless the selected service option explicitly says so.

What Happens During a City of Dalaran Run?

The group enters Dalaran through the sewer system and progresses from the underground sections into the restored magical city.

The dungeon is less linear than many Classic instances. Multiple routes lead through the city, with encounters spread between the sewers, streets, arcane districts and the Violet Citadel area.

A standard run focuses on:

clearing the required dungeon route;
defeating the main encounters;
completing the final boss;
earning dungeon XP;
progressing eligible quests;
collecting eligible boss and trash loot;
keeping all normal Gold and rewards earned during the service.

City of Dalaran Bosses

Current dungeon data shows several main encounters spread across Dalaran, culminating in the Shade of the Archmage.

Known encounters include:

Atrexis the Grave Knight — encountered early in the sewer section;
Arcane Anomaly — an arcane encounter outside the sewers;
Mana Devourer — found near the Violet Hold area;
Fel Ancient — an encounter in the central city area;
Unstable Sentinel — one of the construct-based encounters;
Arcanic Enigma — another arcane threat within the restored city;
Shade of the Archmage — the final encounter of the dungeon.

A secret additional boss, Lyn the Ignored, can also be summoned in the sewers when the required Tome of Dalaran is available.

The Tome is connected to additional progression involving Shadowfang Keep and Ambermill. Because this is a separate prerequisite, the secret boss is not automatically guaranteed as part of every standard City of Dalaran run unless it is explicitly agreed for the order.

City of Dalaran Loot and Gear

City of Dalaran sits at an important point in the 1–60 journey. Around levels 28–33, replacing an outdated weapon, shield, caster item or armor slot can make a noticeable difference in questing and later dungeon performance.

The dungeon contains weapons, armor, jewelry and profession-related rewards. Examples currently listed in the Forever database include:

Archmagister's Faceted Pendant — necklace from the dungeon loot pool;
Ponderous Orb — caster off-hand;
Blueprint: Spinning Wheel — profession Blueprint;
Blueprint: Arcane Salvager — profession Blueprint.

Specific items remain random dungeon drops. A normal run guarantees dungeon completion, not a particular weapon, armor piece or Blueprint.
