This makes a prepared Stockade run particularly valuable when several quests are completed at the same time.

What Is The Stockade?

The Stockade is Stormwind's high-security prison. It was built to contain dangerous criminals, Defias operatives, political prisoners, murderers and other enemies of the kingdom.

The situation inside has collapsed after the prisoners launched an uprising and overwhelmed the guards. The cells and corridors are now controlled by the inmates, while Warden Thelwater attempts to restore order from outside the occupied prison.

A large part of the revolt is connected with the Defias Brotherhood. This makes The Stockade an important continuation of the story that begins in Westfall and The Deadmines.

The Stockade and The Deadmines Story Connection

The connection between The Deadmines and The Stockade is one of the strongest reasons to run both dungeons during Alliance leveling.

After defeating Edwin VanCleef in The Deadmines, players can begin a longer storyline through The Unsent Letter. The investigation eventually leads back to Stormwind and into The Stockade, where Bazil Thredd becomes a central target.

Completing the wider chain continues the Defias conspiracy far beyond the dungeon and eventually rewards the Seal of Wrynn, a powerful early leveling ring with multiple primary attributes.

This means The Stockade is not simply a disconnected prison dungeon. It acts as an important second chapter in the Alliance storyline surrounding the Defias Brotherhood and political problems inside Stormwind.

The Stockade Named Encounters

Targorr the Dread

Targorr the Dread is a captured Blackrock orc who previously served under Gath'Ilzogg as an executioner.

He is the target of the Alliance quest What Comes Around.... The quest asks the player to enter The Stockade, kill Targorr and return his head to Guard Berton in Lakeshire.

The reward choice includes:

• Lucine Longsword
• Hardened Root Staff

This gives both physical and caster-oriented characters a deterministic reward instead of relying entirely on random dungeon drops.

Kam Deepfury

Kam Deepfury is a Dark Iron dwarf imprisoned in Stormwind after being connected with the attack on the Thandol Span.

The quest The Fury Runs Deep sends players into The Stockade to kill him and recover his head.

Available quest rewards include:

• Belt of Vindication
• Headbasher

The quest also contributes Ironforge reputation, making Kam an important target for players who prepare the relevant Wetlands questline before traveling back to Stormwind.

Dextren Ward

Dextren Ward is connected with Duskwood and is the objective of Crime and Punishment.

The Darkshire authorities want Ward executed after he was caught selling corpses taken from the cemetery. Stormwind imprisoned him instead, leading Councilman Millstipe to send adventurers into The Stockade to carry out the original sentence.

Quest reward options include:

• Ambassador's Boots
• Darkshire Mail Leggings

This is another reason a prepared Stockade run can provide more predictable value through quests than through normal boss drops.

Bazil Thredd and the Stockade Riots

Bazil Thredd is the most important named prisoner in the dungeon. He is associated with the Defias Brotherhood and has become the central figure behind the prison uprising.

The quest The Stockade Riots requires players to kill Thredd and return his head to Warden Thelwater.

More importantly, the objective is part of the longer storyline started through the letter found after Edwin VanCleef in The Deadmines.

After dealing with Thredd, the investigation continues through Stormwind and eventually develops into a much wider Defias conspiracy.

Seal of Wrynn Quest Progression

Players following the VanCleef storyline can eventually earn the Seal of Wrynn.

The Stockade portion of the chain revolves around Bazil Thredd, but the complete storyline continues beyond the dungeon through several Stormwind objectives.

The Seal of Wrynn provides:

• Agility
• Stamina
• Intellect
• Spirit

Because it provides useful attributes for almost every class, this chain is one of the strongest reasons to combine a Deadmines run with The Stockade during Alliance leveling.

Bruegal Ironknuckle – Rare Stockade Boss

Bruegal Ironknuckle is the most important loot-oriented encounter in The Stockade.

Unlike Targorr, Kam, Dextren and Thredd, Bruegal is a rare spawn. He is therefore not guaranteed to appear during every dungeon reset.

His current Forever loot contains three distinctive Bind-on-Pickup Rare items:

These items are not guaranteed. Bruegal must first spawn, and the desired item must then drop from his loot table.

Why The Stockade Has Less Fixed Boss Loot

The Stockade is unusual compared with many other Classic dungeons because most of its normal named prisoners are primarily quest targets rather than dedicated loot bosses.

That changes the optimal reason to run the dungeon.

Important The Stockade Quests

Quell The Uprising

Quell The Uprising is one of the easiest quests to combine with a normal Stockade clear.

The objective requires killing:

• 10 Defias Prisoners
• 8 Defias Convicts
• 8 Defias Insurgents

These enemies appear throughout the dungeon, so the quest requires almost no special routing if it is accepted before the run.

The Color of Blood

The Color of Blood requires players to collect 10 Red Wool Bandanas from Defias enemies inside The Stockade.

Like Quell The Uprising, this objective progresses naturally during a normal dungeon clear and should be picked up beforehand whenever available.

Best Way to Prepare for a Stockade Run

The Stockade provides the most value when its quests are prepared in advance.

Before entering, check whether your character can obtain objectives from:

• Stormwind for the uprising and Defias-related quests.
• Redridge Mountains for Targorr the Dread.
• Duskwood for Dextren Ward.
• Wetlands for Kam Deepfury.
• The Deadmines / VanCleef storyline for Bazil Thredd and the longer Defias conspiracy.

A prepared run can complete several objectives simultaneously, which is much more efficient than returning to Stormwind separately for each prisoner.

Who Should Run The Stockade?

Where Is The Stockade Entrance?

The Stockade is located inside Stormwind City and is built beneath the city's canal district near the Mage Quarter.

This makes it exceptionally convenient for Alliance characters. Players can train skills, repair equipment, use the Auction House, prepare quests and enter the dungeon without leaving the capital.

For Horde characters, reaching the dungeon requires entering a hostile Alliance capital, while most of the associated quests are Alliance-only. The Stockade is therefore overwhelmingly an Alliance progression dungeon.

The Stockade in WoW Forever Progression

For Alliance characters, a practical progression path can move from The Deadmines → The Stockade → Gnomeregan, with Blackfathom Deeps, Excavation Site and City of Dalaran available as overlapping alternatives.

The Stockade Boost Service
