Razorfen Downs is the second major Razorfen dungeon after Razorfen Kraul. The lich Amnennar the Coldbringer now dominates the deepest part of the Downs, while undead creatures, Death's Head quilboar and other corrupted forces occupy the surrounding tunnels.

Razorfen Downs Dungeon Overview

Razorfen Downs is a returning 5-player dungeon located in the southern Barrens near the Great Lift leading toward Thousand Needles. In WoW Forever, the dungeon covers approximately levels 37-46.

RFD is relatively compact compared with Maraudon or Blackrock Depths, but it contains several optional branches and events. A normal completion can focus on the major bosses and Amnennar, while a more complete run can add the Belnistrasz escort, Plaguemaw, Ragglesnout when available, profession objectives and dungeon quests.

Razorfen Downs Story

Razorfen Downs was built from the enormous thorn growths associated with the quilboar and became one of their most important settlements. It serves as a traditional capital and sacred burial ground for the race.

The balance changed when agents of the Scourge entered the Downs. The undead forces, led by Amnennar the Coldbringer, established a foothold among the quilboar and began turning the thorn maze into a base for undead expansion.

The Death's Head tribe became closely connected with these forces, while skeletons, necromancers and other undead now occupy large parts of the dungeon.

The conflict therefore has two sides: adventurers are fighting dangerous quilboar inside their own stronghold while also preventing the Scourge from turning Razorfen Downs into a permanent undead bastion in southern Kalimdor.

Razorfen Downs Bosses

Tuten'kash

Tuten'kash is summoned through the gong event in the Chamber of Callers. The group must first deal with waves of spiders before the boss appears.

This encounter rewards preparation more than raw damage. Clearing the surrounding area before starting the gong prevents additional enemies from joining the fight while the group is already managing event waves.

Tuten'kash is particularly valuable for Plate and Leather characters because its loot table includes several substantial level-40 gearing options.

Plaguemaw the Rotting and the Belnistrasz Event

Plaguemaw the Rotting is connected to the optional Belnistrasz progression inside Razorfen Downs.

The chain begins with Scourge of the Downs and continues into Extinguishing the Idol.

The group escorts Belnistrasz to the quilboar idol and protects him while he performs his ritual. Multiple enemy waves attack during the event, so players should clear the route beforehand and make sure everyone who wants quest credit is prepared before the escort begins.

Completing the quest rewards the Dragonclaw Ring. Plaguemaw also provides an additional boss loot table.

Mordresh Fire Eye

Mordresh Fire Eye stands on a large mound of bones surrounded by numerous skeletons. The encounter is one of the most recognizable parts of Razorfen Downs because Mordresh effectively commands an entire crowd of undead while casting from the center of the area.

Groups with strong area damage can quickly clear the weaker skeletons, while other parties can reduce the risk by pulling smaller groups before fully engaging Mordresh.

Mordresh himself is a caster, making interrupts useful when available. His loot table is particularly attractive to cloth and mana-based characters.

Glutton

Glutton is a roaming undead abomination encountered during the later progression through RFD.

Because the boss patrols rather than remaining inside a dedicated arena, it is worth checking nearby enemy packs before engaging. Pulling Glutton together with additional undead can make an otherwise straightforward encounter considerably more difficult.

Glutton's loot is primarily interesting to physical characters, including a one-handed axe and Leather shoulders.

Ragglesnout – Rare Boss

Ragglesnout is an optional rare spawn and may not appear during every dungeon reset. When present, he can be found around the later section of Razorfen Downs near the route toward Amnennar.

Because he is rare, his items should not be treated as guaranteed targets from a single run. His loot includes several notable physical and defensive pieces such as X'caliboar and Savage Boar's Guard.

Amnennar the Coldbringer

Amnennar the Coldbringer is the final boss of Razorfen Downs and the central Scourge figure behind the dungeon's story.

The lich waits at the top of the Spiral of Thorns. He uses Frost-based magic including Frostbolt and Frost Nova and can summon Frost Spectres during the encounter.

Interrupting Frostbolt when possible reduces incoming damage, while the group should avoid losing control of summoned spirits. Amnennar is also the target of important Alliance and Horde dungeon quests.

His loot table is one of the strongest in RFD, containing options for Plate, Mail, Leather, cloth casters and dagger users.

Best Razorfen Downs Loot in WoW Forever

Specific items are never guaranteed. Ragglesnout is also a rare encounter, while Plaguemaw requires the relevant event, so players targeting these loot tables should select the appropriate run and may require multiple attempts.

Vanquisher's Sword – Important Amnennar Quest Reward

Both factions have a quest that sends players to defeat Amnennar the Coldbringer:

• Bring the Light for Alliance characters.
• Bring the End for Horde characters.

These quests can reward the Vanquisher's Sword, a one-handed sword with additional Attack Power, or an alternative necklace reward.

This means that even if Amnennar does not drop the exact item you need, completing the associated quest can still provide a guaranteed character progression reward.

Razorfen Downs Quests

Preparing these quests before entering is strongly recommended. RFD is large enough that returning only for a missed objective is considerably less efficient than combining bosses, XP, quest objectives and loot opportunities during the same run.

Extinguishing the Idol and Dragonclaw Ring

The Belnistrasz chain is one of the most distinctive objectives inside Razorfen Downs.

Players first complete Scourge of the Downs by speaking with the imprisoned Belnistrasz. This unlocks Extinguishing the Idol, an escort and defense event.

During the event:

• Escort Belnistrasz toward the quilboar idol.
• Clear the route before starting whenever possible.
• Protect him while multiple waves attack.
• Do not allow him to die during the ritual.
• Complete the event to receive the Dragonclaw Ring.

The Dragonclaw Ring provides Stamina and Spirit and is a useful additional reward from a run that already contains several boss loot opportunities.

Razorfen Downs for Professions

RFD also contains a profession-specific reason to visit the Murder Pens. Henry Stern remains present in the current Forever database.

Characters with the appropriate profession skill can learn:

• Goldthorn Tea for Cooking.
• Mighty Troll's Blood Potion for Alchemy.

Where Is the Razorfen Downs Entrance?

Razorfen Downs is located in the southern Barrens, close to the Great Lift and the route toward Thousand Needles.

The entrance to the Razorfen complex is surrounded by enormous thorn growths. After entering the exterior cavern and following the path downward, players reach the dungeon portal.

Horde characters generally have a shorter journey because the dungeon lies within traditional Horde leveling territory. Alliance characters can still access it but should plan for a longer trip through Kalimdor.

Razorfen Downs vs Razorfen Kraul

Razorfen Kraul and Razorfen Downs are separate dungeons and cover different parts of the quilboar story.

For players following both dungeons naturally, Razorfen Kraul comes first and Razorfen Downs becomes relevant later during progression through the upper 30s and early 40s.
