What Does the Black Temple Attunement Unlock?

Completing the Black Temple attunement finishes the main access chain associated with Illidan's raid and rewards your character with the Medallion of Karabor.

On TBC Classic Anniversary realms, completed raid attunements are account-wide. Once the attunement has been fully completed, eligible alts on the same account can benefit from the raid unlock. Medallion of Karabor Reward

The final quest A Distraction for Akama rewards the Medallion of Karabor, an item level 141 neck with:

• +49 Stamina;
• +40 Shadow Resistance;
• connection to the completed Black Temple attunement chain.

The Shadow Resistance makes the medallion particularly useful when preparing for encounters such as Mother Shahraz inside Black Temple.

Because the Medallion itself is character-specific, completing the attunement on an alt can still be useful even when Black Temple access has already been unlocked account-wide.

Black Temple Attunement Questline

The chain begins in Shadowmoon Valley. Your starting NPC depends on the Shattrath faction selected by the character:

• Aldor: Anchorite Ceyla at the Altar of Sha'tar.
• Scryers: Arcanist Thelis at the Sanctum of the Stars.

Both versions then merge into the same Akama storyline. The complete progression includes the following main steps:

1. Tablets of Baa'ri – collect the required tablet fragments in Shadowmoon Valley.
2. Oronu the Elder – defeat Oronu and recover Akama's orders.
3. The Ashtongue Corruptors – defeat the required Ashtongue targets.
4. The Warden's Cage – continue the chain toward Akama.
5. Proof of Allegiance and Akama – unlock the next stage of the storyline.
6. Seer Udalo – enter The Arcatraz and locate Seer Udalo.
7. The Ata'mal Terrace and Akama's Promises – complete the next Shadowmoon Valley objectives.
8. Serpentshrine Cavern – defeat Fathom-Lord Karathress and speak with Seer Olum.
9. Ruse of the Ashtongue – defeat Al'ar in Tempest Keep while completing the required quest condition.
10. An Artifact From the Past – defeat Rage Winterchill in Mount Hyjal and obtain the required quest item.
11. The Hostage Soul and Entry Into the Black Temple – complete the final handoffs.
12. A Distraction for Akama – complete the scripted event outside Black Temple and receive the Medallion of Karabor.

The Arcatraz Step – Seer Udalo

One part of the Black Temple attunement sends you into The Arcatraz to find Seer Udalo near the final section of the dungeon.

The dungeon step can be completed on the appropriate available difficulty. The character does not necessarily need to personally own the Arcatraz key if another eligible group member can open the entrance, but access to the dungeon itself must be available for the quest step.

Serpentshrine Cavern – Fathom-Lord Karathress

After completing the earlier Akama quests, the attunement continues inside Serpentshrine Cavern.

The raid must progress far enough to defeat Fathom-Lord Karathress. After the boss is defeated, you can speak with Seer Olum and accept The Secret Compromised, which sends you back to Akama.

This raid-dependent checkpoint is one of the reasons correct scheduling matters when completing the full Black Temple attunement.

Tempest Keep – Defeat Al'ar

The next major raid step is Ruse of the Ashtongue in Tempest Keep: The Eye.

Your character must defeat Al'ar while fulfilling the quest requirement connected to the Ashtongue Cowl. Completing the boss kill correctly advances the chain toward the final Mount Hyjal requirement.

Mount Hyjal – Rage Winterchill Requirement

The Black Temple attunement cannot be fully completed without progressing into The Battle for Mount Hyjal.

During An Artifact From the Past, your character must defeat Rage Winterchill, the first boss of Mount Hyjal, and obtain the required Time-Phased Phylactery.

This means Mount Hyjal access must already be available before the final Black Temple attunement stages can be completed.
