Star Citizen Mass Driver Cannons

Mass Driver Cannons are ballistic ship weapons that use electromagnetic systems to accelerate physical projectiles. Current Star Citizen 4.10.1 data includes two main player-usable families: the Sledge series from Klaus & Werner and the Strife Mass Driver from Apocalypse Arms.

The regular interchangeable models currently cover Size 1 through Size 3 weapon hardpoints. A much larger Size 10 Destroyer Mass Driver also exists for the Idris-M, but it is a dedicated capital-ship weapon rather than a normal component upgrade.

Choose the Right Mass Driver Cannon Size

The cannon must match the weapon hardpoint installed on your ship or turret. A Size 3 Sledge III cannot be mounted directly to a Size 2 hardpoint, so size compatibility should always be checked before ordering.

Sledge Mass Driver Cannons

The Sledge series from Klaus & Werner uses railgun technology to fire high-damage ballistic projectiles with strong accuracy at range. The weapon family deliberately sacrifices rate of fire in exchange for powerful individual shots.

The current lineup consists of the Sledge I S1, Sledge II S2 and Sledge III S3. This gives pilots the same general weapon philosophy across small and medium hardpoints.

The Sledge series can currently be purchased at several weapon stores in Stanton and also has craftable blueprints. Blueprint access is not automatically available, however, and must be unlocked through appropriate gameplay.

Strife Mass Driver Cannon

The Strife Mass Driver Cannon is an S2 Grade A weapon from Apocalypse Arms. Instead of following the slower Sledge firing philosophy exactly, the Strife uses electromagnetic accelerators to fire its high-velocity projectiles at a comparatively faster rate.

Its in-game description specifically warns about power demand and overheating, making heat management relevant during sustained use. In the current 4.10.1 economy, the Strife can be purchased from several Stanton weapon stores and also has a craftable blueprint.

Sledge II or Strife?

Both the Sledge II and Strife occupy Size 2 weapon hardpoints, but they are separate weapons with different behavior. The Sledge family emphasizes deliberate long-range shots and high damage per projectile, while the Strife is designed around a faster firing rhythm.

This makes S2 particularly useful for players who want to choose between two different Mass Driver styles without changing hardpoint size.

Mass Driver Cannon vs Ballistic Cannon

A Mass Driver is still a ballistic projectile weapon, but the firing mechanism distinguishes it from more conventional ballistic cannons. Mass Drivers use electromagnetic or railgun-style acceleration to launch their projectiles at high velocity.

Both weapon categories use finite physical ammunition. The important difference is the weapon profile: Mass Drivers are built around high-velocity precision shots, while conventional Ballistic Cannons include a broader range of firing behaviors.

This product includes Mass Driver Cannons only. Standard Ballistic Cannons, Ballistic Gatlings and Ballistic Scatterguns should remain separate weapon products.

Mass Driver Ammunition

Mass Driver Cannons use physical ammunition, so they cannot fire indefinitely like an energy weapon supplied through the ship's weapon capacitor. Ammunition capacity varies between models and sizes.

For example, current 4.10.1 data gives the Sledge III a 102-round capacity. Exact magazine size, rate of fire, range and damage should be considered per model because these values are not identical across the Mass Driver family.

Buying or Crafting Mass Driver Cannons

The Sledge I, Sledge II, Sledge III and Strife can currently be purchased through selected weapon vendors. They also have crafting blueprints in the current crafting system.

Blueprint availability is progression-dependent. Several combat contracts can reward one blueprint from a pool that includes the Sledge series and Strife, so crafting the weapon yourself may require completing the relevant content first.
