Buy Quantum Drives in Star Citizen and upgrade your ship for faster travel, better fuel efficiency or a more specialized loadout. Choose the exact Quantum Drive model, size and available crafting quality, then arrange a coordinated in-game delivery in the current LIVE Persistent Universe.
A Quantum Drive does more than determine your ship's maximum quantum speed. Spool time, acceleration, cooldown, quantum fuel consumption, durability and component class all affect the practical experience of travelling between planets, stations and mission locations. The fastest drive on paper is not necessarily the best choice for every route or ship.
Star Citizen Quantum Drives
Star Citizen Alpha 4.10.2 LIVE includes Quantum Drives across S1, S2, S3 and S4. Most commonly replaceable upgrades are S1–S3. Size 4 drives are generally associated with much larger or specialized spacecraft and should not be treated as universal upgrades. Always check the actual Quantum Drive slot on your ship before placing an order.

Atlas and FoxFire: S1 Quantum Drives for Everyday Travel
The Atlas S1 is an RSI Grade A Civilian Quantum Drive and a strong choice for frequent jumps. Its combination of high travel speed and relatively short cooldown makes it practical when a session involves repeated travel between stations, moons and mission locations.
The FoxFire S1 is a Grade B Competition drive with slightly higher stock cruise speed. It can appeal to pilots making longer uninterrupted jumps, although its cooldown is longer than the Atlas. Neither option is universally best: the real route and the ship's fuel capacity matter.
LightFire, Spectre and VK-00: Range, Stealth and Combat
The LightFire S1 prioritizes fuel economy over peak speed. For ships with limited Quantum Fuel storage, a more efficient drive can make multi-stop routes more comfortable and reduce refuelling frequency.
The Spectre S1 represents the Stealth class, offering a different balance of signature, efficiency and speed. The VK-00 S1 remains a Military alternative with quick spool behavior and resilience, but the 4.10 rebalance means it should no longer be described as the fastest general-purpose S1 drive.
Hemera, SunFire and SparkFire: S2 Quantum Drives
The Hemera S2 is a Grade A Civilian drive with an excellent balance of cruise speed, spool time and cooldown. It is especially relevant to medium ships used for everyday missions and mixed-distance travel.
The SunFire S2 offers slightly higher stock cruise speed, making it attractive for longer continuous jumps. The SparkFire S2 focuses more on fuel efficiency. Pilots running long journeys without frequent stops may prefer the extra range to a small gain in top speed.
Other S2 families include Spicule and Bolt for Stealth-oriented builds, Huracan and Bolon for Industrial alternatives, and XL-1 for Military priorities. The XL-1 is no longer the default fastest S2 travel upgrade in current LIVE data.
Erebos, Agni and TS-2: S3 Quantum Drives
The Erebos S3 is a Grade A Civilian Quantum Drive with very high stock cruise speed and comparatively convenient cooldown behavior for a large drive. It is a strong travel-focused choice for supported large ships.
The Agni S3 is a Grade B Industrial drive with better fuel efficiency at the cost of some travel speed and longer spool or cooldown behavior. It can be attractive for cargo, industrial and exploration routes where fuel reserves matter.
The TS-2 S3 is a Grade A Military drive. Its military characteristics can be relevant to specialized loadouts, but it should not be treated as the fastest S3 drive in Alpha 4.10.2. Other large-drive alternatives include Kama, Tyche, Impulse and Ranger.
Quantum Drive Grades and Classes
Grade and class are different attributes. Grades A–D indicate a component's position within a line, while classes suggest design priorities. A higher grade does not guarantee the shortest travel time or best range.
| Class | Typical Priority | Example Models |
| Civilian | Versatile travel performance | Atlas, Hemera, Erebos |
| Competition | Specialized speed and travel characteristics | FoxFire, SunFire, LightFire, SparkFire |
| Industrial | Utility, fuel endurance and industrial loadouts | Colossus, Huracan, Agni |
| Military | Durability and combat-oriented behavior | VK-00, XL-1, TS-2 |
| Stealth | Lower-emission or specialized signature profiles | Spectre, Spicule, Bolt |
Quantum Speed, Spool Time, Cooldown and Fuel Consumption
Quantum Speed influences cruise performance on long journeys, but a drive must also spool, accelerate and decelerate. Spool Time affects preparation before a jump, and Cooldown matters when you chain multiple jumps together. A drive with a slightly lower top speed may therefore reach a nearby destination sooner.
Quantum Fuel Consumption controls how far your ship can travel with its available fuel. Actual range depends on both the drive and the ship's Quantum Fuel capacity. Quantum travel within a system is different from traversing a jump point, which also depends on the ship's supported jump equipment. Component Power, durability and signatures also matter in ships where Engineering and loadout choices are important.
Crafted Quantum Drives and Crafting Quality
Star Citizen supports component blueprints and crafted ship upgrades for selected Quantum Drives. Crafting materials and their quality can influence the resulting component's characteristics. Because crafted statistics can differ from stock values, a performance comparison should distinguish a standard drive from a crafted version.
Where Crafting Quality is offered in this product, choose the available quality option that matches your order. Not every drive, blueprint or quality tier is necessarily available for every selection. The selected product configuration determines what is included; a blueprint, crafting service or separate materials are not automatically included unless explicitly stated.
Choose a Quantum Drive for Your Ship
Before ordering, check your ship's installed Quantum Drive size in the vehicle loadout manager. The Avenger Titan, Hornet Mk II and Vulture are common examples of S1 platforms; the Cutlass Black, Corsair and Constellation Taurus are common S2 platforms; and the Caterpillar and Reclaimer are common S3 examples. Exact compatibility should always be verified for the specific ship and variant.
For a practical starting point, compare Atlas or FoxFire for S1, Hemera or SunFire for S2 and Erebos for S3 when travel speed is the goal. For better fuel economy, compare LightFire, SparkFire and Agni respectively.
Where to Find Quantum Drives in Star Citizen
Quantum Drive availability varies between component stores, missions, loot sources, blueprints and crafting systems. Locations such as Platinum Bay, Omega Pro, Cousin Crow's and Dumper's Depot sell different component families, but not every model is a regular shop item. Some Military and Stealth drives may require alternative acquisition routes.
When you want a specific supported model, ordering the component can save time otherwise spent checking multiple stores and arranging the required acquisition route. Browse other upgrades in our Star Citizen Ship Components category.
