Buy Power Plants in Star Citizen and equip your ship with the component needed to supply its weapons, shields, thrusters and other onboard systems. Choose the exact Power Plant model that fits your ship and receive it through a coordinated in-game delivery.
Power Plants are central to Star Citizen's Resource Network. They generate the limited pool of power that must be distributed between ship systems, so the right component can affect available power, durability, emissions and how much flexibility you have when managing your loadout.
What Is a Power Plant in Star Citizen?
A Power Plant generates the energy required to operate the vehicle and its components. Weapons, shields, engines, coolers, quantum systems and other equipment all compete for power from the ship's available energy pool.
This makes the Power Plant more than a passive component. Ships can operate with limited available power, requiring pilots or engineers to prioritize systems depending on the situation. A combat build may allocate more resources to weapons and shields, while another setup may prioritize lower emissions or general efficiency.
| Component Type | Power Plant |
| Main Function | Generate power for ship systems |
| Main Swappable Sizes | S1, S2 and S3 |
| Component Classes | Civilian, Competition, Industrial, Military and Stealth |
| Grades | A, B, C and D |
| Important Factors | Power output, EM signature, durability, heat behavior and size |
| Compatibility | Requires a matching Power Plant component slot |
Choose the Correct Power Plant Size
The Power Plant size must match the component slot installed on your ship. A Size 2 Power Plant cannot simply replace an S1 component, even if the larger unit offers more power.
S1 Power Plants are commonly used by single-seat ships, light fighters and other smaller spacecraft.
S2 Power Plants are common on heavy fighters and small to medium multi-crew ships.
S3 Power Plants are designed for larger multi-crew ships with significantly greater system demands.
S0 and S4 components also exist in current Star Citizen data. S0 is primarily associated with smaller vehicles, while S4 includes capital-scale and sometimes bespoke components. These should be handled separately rather than mixed into a normal S1-S3 ship-upgrade selector.
Power Plant Classes Explained
Civilian Power Plants provide balanced overall performance and comparatively low maintenance requirements. They are suitable when you want a general-purpose component without pushing heavily toward one specialized role.
Military Power Plants prioritize high output, durability and power-management flexibility. Their trade-off is higher power demand and stronger signatures, making them better suited to performance-focused combat builds than low-observability setups.
Industrial Power Plants are heavier and more power-hungry but emphasize durability and heat management. They are a natural choice for industrial ships and other builds where reliability under sustained operation matters.
Stealth Power Plants prioritize low signature emissions and lower power consumption. Their output sits closer to the middle of the range and durability is lower, but they can be valuable when reducing detectability is more important than maximum power generation.
Competition Power Plants focus on high performance and low weight. Their trade-offs include lower durability and some of the strongest signatures among component classes.
Power Plant Grades A, B, C and D
Power Plants are also separated into Grades D through A. Grade affects the underlying values of the component within its class and family.
Grade D represents the budget end of a component family, followed by Grade C and Grade B, while Grade A represents its highest-performance version. Grade alone should not be used to compare completely different classes, because a Grade A Stealth component and Grade A Military component are designed around different priorities.
Popular S1 Power Plants
| Power Plant | Size | Grade | Class |
|---|---|---|---|
| WhiteRose | S1 | A | Civilian |
| JS-300 | S1 | A | Military |
| Breton | S1 | A | Industrial |
| Slipstream | S1 | A | Stealth |
| LumaCore | S1 | A | Competition |
This gives S1 ships several very different upgrade paths. A JS-300 favors the military side of the component system, while Slipstream is specifically built around reduced emissions. LumaCore represents the Competition class, and Breton provides the Industrial alternative.
Popular S2 Power Plants
| Power Plant | Size | Grade | Class |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lotus | S2 | A | Civilian |
| JS-400 | S2 | A | Military |
| Genoa | S2 | A | Industrial |
| Eclipse | S2 | A | Stealth |
| LuxCore | S2 | A | Competition |
Current 4.10.1 data shows clear differences even among Grade A S2 models. The Genoa is an Industrial component built around strong performance and durability, while Eclipse is a Stealth component designed to reduce heat and signature. The JS-400 fills the Military role, Lotus the Civilian role and LuxCore the Competition role.
Large S3 Power Plants
S3 Power Plants serve large multi-crew ships and generate substantially more power than smaller units. Current examples include the Durango S3 Grade A Industrial, JS-500 S3 Grade A Military, QuadraCell MX S3 Grade A Military and TigerLilly S3 Grade A Civilian.
Because large ships can have very different engineering layouts and may use multiple Power Plants, the exact ship configuration should be checked before ordering an S3 component.
Power Generation and Ship Loadouts
The Power Plant supplies a shared energy pool that is distributed across the ship's systems. In the current Resource Network, components consume power segments according to their demands.
A higher-output Power Plant can provide additional headroom for demanding systems, but maximum output is not the only consideration. Durability, component class, electromagnetic emissions and thermal behavior also affect how a Power Plant fits into a complete loadout.
Ships with multiple Power Plants also require careful management. Activating additional generators does not simply provide unlimited power without consequences: additional generation creates extra thermal and signature considerations that must be balanced with the rest of the engineering setup.
Power Plants and EM Signature
Power generation contributes to the ship's electromagnetic signature. This is one reason Stealth Power Plants are different from Military or Competition models.
For example, current data for the S1 Slipstream is built around very low emissions, while Military components prioritize performance and durability even when that produces a stronger detectable signature.
If you are building specifically for low observability, the highest-output Power Plant is therefore not automatically the best choice.
Why Ship Compatibility Matters
Before buying a Power Plant, check the component size and the number of Power Plant slots used by your ship. Two ships of similar overall size can still have different component layouts.
The safest approach is to order the exact component model you want and provide your ship name if you are unsure about compatibility. This avoids purchasing the correct component class but the wrong physical size.
How Power Plant Delivery Works
Select the exact Power Plant model and quantity required for your ship. If you are unsure which component fits, provide your ship model so compatibility can be checked before delivery.
Our team coordinates an available server and meeting location and transfers the selected component using an appropriate in-game handoff method.
You remain on your own Star Citizen account throughout standard delivery. Your RSI password is not required.
Upgrade Your Ship Without Searching Component Stores
Power Plants are distributed across different component stores, while some high-end models have limited conventional availability or can also be obtained through the crafting and blueprint system.
Ordering the exact Power Plant you need allows you to move directly to installing, configuring and testing your ship instead of travelling between component stores or unlocking a blueprint first.
