Ahead of the Curve

Defeating Ula'tek on Heroic difficulty awards Ahead of the Curve: Ula'tek while The Venomous Abyss is the current raid tier. Once the tier ends, the achievement is removed from the game, which makes it the one reward in this raid you cannot come back for later.

AotC also works as a practical raiding credential: many Heroic and early Mythic pug groups filter applicants by it. Getting the kill early in Midnight Season 2 means every group application for the rest of the season starts from a stronger position.

Bosses and Loot

Heroic item level rises through the instance, and The Bargained Crown and Ula'tek drop the strongest gear at 308. That makes the final two encounters the biggest upgrade targets of the run, and a full clear the only way to get loot chances on them.

Heroic drops are strong enough to carry a character through Mythic+ pushing, PvP gearing curves, and the rest of the season's PvE content. Eight kills in one lockout also cover the raid row of your weekly Great Vault under Blizzard's current rules; based on current PTR information, Vault rewards from Heroic kills start on the next upgrade track, which raises the weekly value of the clear further.

Tier Set Tokens

Five bosses drop tier tokens, covering all five set slots. Completing your set bonus early is one of the largest single power gains of a new season, and a full Heroic clear includes every token encounter in one session. Token drops and tradability follow Blizzard's live loot rules, so no run can promise a specific piece.
