Last updated: July 14, 2026.
Marvel Rivals Season 9 rebuilt the Team-Up system, introduced Regenerative Shields, reduced Ultimate Ability generation across every role, and reworked Black Widow. NetEase followed the launch update with an emergency hotfix on July 11, so older tier lists no longer reflect the current balance.
This tier list uses the current Season 9 Diamond+ rankings from RivalsMeta. Balance values and mechanical changes are taken from the official Season 9 balance update and the July 11 hotfix. Since the season is still new, hero positions may change as the sample grows.
Marvel Rivals Season 9 Tier List Overview
Peni Parker currently leads the Vanguard role, Magik, Black Cat, and Psylocke lead the Duelists, while Mantis, Ultron, and Rocket Raccoon are the strongest Strategists in the current Diamond+ table. These heroes provide reliable value through objective control, mobility, healing, survivability, and strong basic abilities without depending entirely on frequent ultimates.
| Role | Best Season 9 picks | Main strengths |
|---|---|---|
| Vanguard | Peni Parker | Objective control, traps, route denial, and consistent defensive pressure |
| Duelist | Magik, Black Cat, Psylocke | Mobility, target access, recoverable shielding, and elimination pressure |
| Strategist | Mantis, Ultron, Rocket Raccoon | Sustained healing, utility, survival, and strong neutral-fight value |
Season 9 Vanguard Tier List
| Tier | Vanguards |
|---|---|
| S | Peni Parker |
| A | Hulk, Groot, The Thing, Thor, Angela, Venom, Magneto |
| B | Captain America, Devil Dinosaur, Rogue, Deadpool Vanguard, Emma Frost, Doctor Strange |
Peni Parker is the highest-placed Vanguard in the current Diamond+ data because her traps, deployables, crowd control, and objective presence remain valuable even when ultimates charge more slowly. Her Team-Up interaction with Ultron was nerfed in the July 11 hotfix, reducing healing on other allies and increasing the cooldown, but both heroes remain near the top of the early Season 9 rankings.
Hulk, Thor, Angela, Venom, Rogue, and Captain America gained Regenerative Shields, which begin recovering after five seconds without taking damage. Groot and The Thing instead received direct durability improvements, while Doctor Strange remains a composition-dependent defensive pick whose barrier becomes stronger when Invisible Woman is selected as his Team-Up partner.

Season 9 Duelist Tier List

| Tier | Duelists |
|---|---|
| S | Magik, Black Cat, Psylocke |
| A | Storm, Iron Man, Daredevil, Human Torch, Hela, Iron Fist, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Star-Lord |
| B | Mister Fantastic, Elsa Bloodstone, Hawkeye, Blade, The Punisher, Winter Soldier, Namor |
| C | Wolverine, Deadpool Duelist, Black Widow, Phoenix, Scarlet Witch, Cyclops |
| D | Squirrel Girl, Moon Knight |
Magik and Black Cat benefit directly from Regenerative Shields, allowing them to disengage, recover, and return with part of their durability restored. Magik now has 150 base Health and 125 Regenerative Shield, while Black Cat has the same split and a higher Fortune cap. Psylocke remains S tier despite the emergency nerf to her damage range and enhanced Team-Up effects.
Black Widow is not an immediate winner of the Season 9 rework. NetEase increased Red Room Rifle and Electro-plasma Blast damage in the hotfix after her early results remained below expectations, but she is still placed in C tier in the current Diamond+ table. Cyclops and Phoenix also received quick damage and Team-Up improvements, although neither has moved out of the lower early-season group.
Season 9 Strategist Tier List
| Tier | Strategists |
|---|---|
| S | Mantis, Ultron, Rocket Raccoon |
| A | Loki, Gambit |
| B | Adam Warlock, Jeff the Land Shark, Invisible Woman, Cloak & Dagger, Jubilee |
| C | Luna Snow, White Fox, Deadpool Strategist |
Mantis remains one of the strongest Strategists despite a reduction to Healing Flower. Ultron also stays in S tier after the Peni Parker Team-Up nerf, while Rocket Raccoon combines reliable healing, mobility, and strong survival. His Repair Mode healing was increased, although the C.Y.A. ultimate now costs more energy and becomes weaker when teammates move away from its center.
Jubilee entered Season 9 as a Strategist and received immediate buffs to Firework Finale, Blooming Ball, and her Blade Team-Up. She currently sits in B tier, but her placement may change as players learn her positioning, healing rhythm, and new Team-Up options.
Season 9 Meta by Rank and Queue Type

The tables above use Diamond+ results and should not be copied blindly into every rank. RivalsMeta provides separate filters for Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and One Above All, so players should compare the tier list with their own matchmaking bracket before choosing a hero.
Solo ranked generally rewards flexible hero pools more than one permanent main. A practical pool should include one reliable default pick, one alternative for a different map or engagement range, and one answer to a common counter. Coordinated teams should place more weight on Team-Up enhancements, engage timing, hero bans, and planned cooldown combinations than on the global tier order.
Players who need individual help with positioning, hero mechanics, and ranked decisions can use Marvel Rivals coaching to build a role pool around their rank and preferred heroes.
Best Role Distribution in Season 9
The strongest general role structure in the current RivalsMeta team-composition data is two Vanguards, two Duelists, and two Strategists. The displayed sample gives 2-2-2 a 53.86% win rate, a 68.13% pick rate, and more than 1.49 million recorded matches.
| Role distribution | Win rate | Pick rate | Recorded matches |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 Vanguards, 2 Duelists, 2 Strategists | 53.86% | 68.13% | 1,494,153 |
These numbers describe the role distribution, not one specific six-hero lineup. They support 2-2-2 as the most reliable general structure in the current sample, but they do not prove that every composition using that structure is equally strong.
Recommended Season 9 Team Comps
The following lineups are practical examples based on current hero placements and confirmed Team-Up interactions. They are not statistically verified as the highest-win-rate six-hero compositions.
| Team style | Recommended lineup | Main strengths |
|---|---|---|
| Objective control | Peni Parker, Groot, Magik, Psylocke, Mantis, Ultron | Route denial, walls, deployables, dive pressure, and sustained healing |
| Mobile pressure | Hulk, Venom, Magik, Black Cat, Mantis, Rocket Raccoon | Multiple engage angles, mobile healing, and strong cleanup potential |
| Barrier and poke | Doctor Strange, Thor, Iron Man, Hela, Invisible Woman, Rocket Raccoon | Barriers, ranged pressure, recovery, and two confirmed partner effects |
| Flexible ranked shell | Peni Parker, Groot, Storm, Iron Man, Rocket Raccoon, Cloak & Dagger | Clear frontline, objective control, broad damage, and forgiving healing coverage |
The objective-control lineup contains several current S-tier heroes, although the Peni Parker and Ultron interaction is weaker after the hotfix. The mobile composition requires synchronized target selection, while the barrier setup uses confirmed Doctor Strange–Invisible Woman and Iron Man–Thor Team-Up effects.
Major Season 9 Changes
| Change | Confirmed Season 9 effect |
|---|---|
| Vanguard and Duelist Ultimate generation | Damage-to-energy conversion reduced from 70% to 55% |
| Strategist Ultimate generation | Damage conversion reduced from 75% to 55%; healing conversion reduced to 60% and then restored to 70% |
| Regenerative Shields | Begin recovering after five seconds without damage and fully restore over the following five seconds |
| Team-Up system | Old Anchor stat bonuses were removed and heroes were rebalanced around selected partners |
| Black Widow rework | Followed by additional rifle and ability damage buffs in the July 11 hotfix |
| Emergency hotfix | Adjusted Psylocke, Mantis, Ultron, Black Widow, Cyclops, Phoenix, Iron Man, Jubilee, and Strategist energy gain |
Regenerative Shields reward heroes who can leave combat completely instead of remaining under constant chip damage. The rebuilt Team-Up system also makes composition more important because a hero can perform differently alone, with one enhanced partner, or inside a full lineup designed around that interaction.
Final Thoughts
The current Season 9 Diamond+ baseline places Peni Parker at the top of the Vanguard role, Magik, Black Cat, and Psylocke at the top of the Duelists, and Mantis, Ultron, and Rocket Raccoon at the top of the Strategists. Players should still choose heroes according to their rank, map, matchup, mechanical skill, and available Team-Up partners rather than following the tier order without context.
