Need Help Progressing in Diablo Immortal?

Diablo 5 is officially in development, and Blizzard has already revealed its release window, central story premise, first playable classes, and several major systems. Announced at BlizzCon 2026 under the official title Diablo V, the sequel is planned for spring 2029. This time, Sanctuary is not waiting for another demonic invasion: the heroes have already failed, Diablo rules from Westmarch, and the player begins the campaign as the Heir to that fallen kingdom.

The first Diablo 5 reveal contains unusually substantial detail for a game still early in development. Blizzard has explained why Diablo controls Sanctuary, what makes the new protagonist important, how the world can change between visits, and why a traveling caravan replaces traditional safe hubs. Demon Hunter, Monk, and the new Plague Knight are the first announced classes, with Blizzard promising more classes before launch. The studio has also confirmed equipment sets, Diablo II-inspired Runes and Runewords, size-based inventory management, and a deeper crafting system. This article separates announced Diablo 5 details from features that remain unknown.

Diablo 5 Release Date: Spring 2029

The Diablo 5 release date window is spring 2029. Blizzard has not announced a specific day or month, and the current window should not be treated as a final launch date while Diablo V remains early in development. The official Diablo V website currently features the teaser, the spring 2029 release window, and registration for future updates.

The current release window places Diablo V almost six years after Diablo IV's June 2023 launch. Blizzard plans to begin regular Diablo 5 development updates in 2027, and the studio has stressed that many systems are still taking shape and may change through development and community feedback. No Diablo 5 beta, test schedule, preorder, or early-access program has been announced.

Diablo 5 Story: What Happens After Diablo Wins?

The Diablo 5 story begins after the heroes of the past have failed. Diablo has conquered Sanctuary and transformed Westmarch into an outpost of Hell. From his throne in Westmarch, the Lord of Terror uses Sanctuary's people and souls as weapons in the Eternal Conflict, with the fallen world serving as a stepping stone toward an invasion of the High Heavens.

This changes Diablo's role in the campaign. He is not a distant threat being saved for the final act. Blizzard says Diablo is present from the beginning and actively shapes the story, world, and player's path. The campaign therefore starts inside an established demonic apocalypse instead of asking players to prevent one before it begins.

The protagonist is the Heir to Westmarch, fleeing through the charred remains of a lost kingdom. Blizzard has not revealed the character's name, family history, age, or the full meaning of the title. What has been established is a mysterious connection between the hero and Diablo. That connection makes the protagonist a threat to the Lord of Terror while also leaving the hero uniquely vulnerable to Diablo's influence.

Players who want to finish the current saga before the sequel can use a Diablo IV Lord of Hatred campaign service. That service applies only to Diablo IV; Blizzard has not announced character transfers, rewards, or any progression link between Diablo IV and Diablo V.

Diablo 5 Timeline: When Does Diablo 5 Take Place?

The BlizzCon presentation places Diablo V roughly 100 years after the events of Diablo IV. Blizzard's written reveal focuses on the result of that time jump rather than providing a complete chronology: Sanctuary's greatest champions are gone, only a limited number of humans have escaped Diablo's rule, and a new generation lives with the consequences of his victory.

The century-long time jump allows Diablo V to present a dramatically changed Sanctuary while remaining connected to the history of the previous games. Blizzard has not announced any returning Diablo IV story character for Diablo V, so appearances by specific heroes, allies, or other familiar figures should not be assumed.

The exact bridge between Lord of Hatred and Diablo V remains unrevealed. Blizzard has not explained how Diablo returned, how Sanctuary's champions were defeated, when Westmarch fell, or what happened to the Angiris Council and the High Heavens. The announcement establishes the outcome of that history without revealing every event that caused it.

Diablo 5 World: Procedural Sanctuary After Diablo Wins

The Western Continent is at the center of Diablo's rule. Westmarch, once one of humanity's great cities, has become an outpost of Hell. The wider landscape contains ruined civilization, scattered survivors, cultists who willingly serve Diablo, and corrupted humans known as Dread Commanders. Blizzard describes these Dread Commanders as powerful enough to rival the powers of Hell.

Sanctuary itself is no longer stable. Diablo actively reshapes the world through terror, and Blizzard has described a procedural landscape in which terrain, points of interest, monsters, and rewards can change when players return. Coverage of the BlizzCon panel also described procedural generation affecting both overworld regions and dungeons. Blizzard has not yet detailed the total world size, the frequency of these changes, or the exact structure of the campaign map.

The ruins show what humanity has lost, while the spreading corruption reflects Diablo's continuing control over Sanctuary. The result is a world designed to change between visits rather than remain a completely fixed collection of locations. The official Diablo V development recap identifies this procedural environment as a core part of the game's world design, although its implementation remains subject to change during development.

Diablo 5 Caravan System and Companions

Traditional towns are no longer the player's dependable safe hubs in Diablo 5. Instead, the player builds a traveling caravan of allies and survivors that moves through the scorched Western Continent. The caravan functions as a mobile community and provides services that stationary settlements traditionally handled in earlier Diablo games.

Caravan members are more than menu vendors. Blizzard describes them as vendors and companions with personal histories, motives, and stories to discover as the community grows. During the panel, the studio introduced two examples: a former member of the Sisters of the Sightless Eye and a stranded Treasure Goblin searching for meaning in a world where greed has lost its old purpose.

Blizzard has not yet explained every caravan mechanic. The exact combat roles of individual companions, permanent death, departure based on player choices, caravan customization, relationship systems, and resource-management mechanics remain unclear. What is confirmed is that the caravan acts as the player's mobile community and replaces the traditional reliance on permanent towns and conquered strongholds.

Diablo 5 Classes: Demon Hunter, Monk, and Plague Knight

Blizzard has announced the first three Diablo 5 classes. Demon Hunter and Monk return with recognizable class identities, while Plague Knight is completely new to the series. These are only the first announced classes, and Blizzard says Diablo V will launch with more classes than ever before, although the complete launch roster has not been revealed.

ClassStatusAnnounced identity
Demon HunterReturningA mobile ranged hunter using twin crossbows, shadow attacks, and battlefield leaps
MonkReturningA close-range martial artist using fists and holy power
Plague KnightNewA heavily armored warrior who spreads disease and pestilence, then consumes it for power

Diablo 5 Demon Hunter

The Demon Hunter returns with twin crossbows and combines ranged attacks with rapid repositioning. Blizzard's description emphasizes striking from the shadows and leaping across the battlefield to destroy enemies. The studio has not shown a complete skill tree or confirmed whether Discipline, Hatred, turrets, traps, or specific Diablo III mechanics will return. Familiar class names should therefore not be treated as confirmation that old builds or resources will work the same way in Diablo V.

Diablo 5 Monk

The Monk returns with martial precision, fist attacks, and holy power called down against enemies. The initial description preserves the class fantasy of a fast melee fighter combining physical techniques with supernatural strikes. Blizzard has not confirmed Spirit as a resource, Mantras, healing mechanics, weapon restrictions, or specific abilities from Diablo III or Diablo Immortal. The class identity is established, but its complete combat loop is not.

Diablo 5 Plague Knight

The Plague Knight is a new heavily armored class described by Blizzard as the embodiment of walking death. Its announced combat identity revolves around spreading disease and pestilence across the battlefield and then consuming those effects for power. Blizzard has not yet shown the complete skill interface or ability sequence and has not confirmed shields, summons, corpse mechanics, poison as a formal damage type, or a unique class resource. Comparisons with Necromancer and Witch Doctor therefore remain speculative beyond the disease-focused theme.

Nothing announced so far indicates that current Diablo IV characters, items, or class progression will transfer into Diablo V. Players using a Diablo IV Unique Items service should therefore treat those items as part of Diablo IV only, not as preparation for the 2029 sequel.

Diablo 5 Gameplay: Procedural World and Dungeons

Diablo V remains an action RPG centered on combat, character progression, loot, and repeated exploration, but Blizzard has not shown enough gameplay to define its complete structure. One of the clearest changes is the return of procedural generation across changing overworld regions, with BlizzCon panel coverage also describing procedurally generated dungeons. Returning to an area can reveal different terrain, points of interest, monsters, encounters, and rewards.

This does not make Diablo V a confirmed survival game, roguelike, MMO, or extraction RPG. The fallen-world premise and traveling caravan introduce survival themes, but Blizzard has not announced hunger systems, permanent character death, PvP extraction, or seasonal character wipes as core Diablo V mechanics.

Blizzard has not yet detailed combat pace, camera behavior, difficulty tiers, the character level cap, open-world events, dungeon structure, bosses, raids, cooperative group size, PvP, trading, seasons, offline play, or endgame progression. It is also unknown exactly how procedural changes interact with campaign quests and repeatable endgame exploration.

Diablo 5 Items, Sets, Runes, Runewords, and Crafting

Diablo 5 itemization is being designed around clarity, identity, and long-term desirability. Blizzard is drawing inspiration from Diablo II and is experimenting with attribute requirements on equipment. The panel also presented item tiers that become more complex as progression advances, although Diablo V remains early in development and individual item systems can still change.

Physical inventory space once again matters because larger equipment occupies more inventory slots, restoring the size-based inventory decisions associated with earlier Diablo games. Belts are also returning as equippable gear. Blizzard has not shown the final inventory grid, stash organization, currency storage, loot-filter functionality, or whether inventory capacity can be expanded through progression.

Equipment sets are returning in Diablo V. Blizzard has not revealed set names, bonuses, drop sources, or rarity rules, but the developers described sets as an approachable way to help players begin assembling builds without making every alternative item choice irrelevant. Final balance, set sizes, and their role in endgame builds remain unknown.

Diablo II-style Runes and Runewords are also planned, together with a broad crafting system inspired by Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred. Current Diablo IV Runewords progression is separate from Diablo V, and Blizzard has not announced that existing Runes, recipes, or crafted equipment will carry forward. The Diablo 5 Runeword list, socket rules, crafting materials, recipe structure, and trading restrictions have not been revealed.

Diablo 5 Platforms, Beta, Price, and System Requirements

Blizzard has not announced the Diablo 5 platforms. The reveal and official Diablo V website currently do not confirm PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch 2, or any other launch hardware. Until Blizzard publishes an official platform list, none of those versions should be presented as confirmed.

No Diablo 5 price, editions, preorder bonuses, subscription requirement, Battle Pass, cosmetic store, or monetization model has been announced. Cross-play, cross-progression, couch co-op, always-online requirements, Battle.net account requirements, and Xbox Game Pass availability are also unknown. Diablo IV's current business model does not confirm how Diablo V will be sold or operated in 2029.

Diablo 5 system requirements are not available. Blizzard has not announced the engine, target resolution, frame-rate modes, ray-tracing support, storage requirement, or minimum and recommended PC specifications. Any hardware recommendations published this early would therefore be speculative rather than official Diablo V requirements.

Diablo 5 Development Updates Start in 2027

Diablo V remains early in development, and Blizzard plans to begin regular development updates in 2027. The studio says bringing players into the process early will allow community feedback to influence decisions while systems and features are still taking shape. The current reveal should therefore be treated as the foundation of Diablo V rather than a final specification.

Major unanswered topics include the rest of the class roster, the full story chronology, launch platforms, world structure, combat and skill progression, multiplayer rules, endgame systems, and the complete loot model. Later development milestones will also need to establish testing plans, monetization, editions, system requirements, and an exact release date.

The broader official BlizzCon Diablo recap confirms that Diablo IV will continue receiving content while Diablo V is developed. The Amazon class is planned for Diablo IV in the first half of 2027, and Blizzard has said Diablo IV support will continue even as development moves toward Diablo V.

Diablo 5 Release and Announced Features: What We Know

Diablo 5 is already more than a logo and a distant release window. Blizzard has announced a spring 2029 launch target, a roughly century-long jump from Diablo IV, and a campaign set after the Lord of Terror has conquered Sanctuary. The Heir to Westmarch will cross a procedurally changing Western Continent alongside a growing caravan of survivors while facing demons, cultists, and corrupted Dread Commanders. Demon Hunter, Monk, and the new heavily armored Plague Knight are the first announced classes.

The reveal also combines new Diablo 5 systems with ideas drawn from earlier games: a traveling community instead of traditional safe towns, procedural overworld regions and dungeons, size-based inventory management, returning belts and equipment sets, deeper crafting, and Diablo II-inspired Runes and Runewords. Platforms, price, beta dates, multiplayer rules, endgame, monetization, and most of the class roster remain unknown. With regular development updates beginning in 2027, this page should remain a live Diablo 5 hub and be updated whenever Blizzard turns its early plans into finalized features.
