Need Help Progressing in Diablo Immortal?

For the current live version of Diablo Immortal, there is no single class that dominates every activity. Tempest and Wizard are among the strongest general PvE choices, Crusader and Blood Knight provide exceptional group utility and frontline value, and Tempest, Blood Knight, Wizard, and Crusader are strong Battleground options for different reasons. The best class depends on whether you prioritize solo farming, dungeons, Helliquary raids, Challenge Rifts, Battlegrounds, ease of play, or F2P progression.

This guide ranks the ten playable classes separately for PvE and PvP, then explains which class fits each player goal. The rankings describe practical performance with a properly assembled build and appropriate Legendary Essences, Legendary Gems, set items, Paragon choices, and Combat Rating. A lower-ranked class is not unusable; Diablo Immortal balance changes frequently, and account power, skill quality, matchmaking, and build availability often matter more than a single tier difference.

Diablo Immortal class tier list

ClassPvE TierPvP TierBest Role

WizardSSArea damage, control, ranged combat
CrusaderSSGroup utility, buffs, frontline control
Blood KnightSSSustain, melee disruption, survivability

MonkAAMobility, support, skill-based melee play
WarlockAASummoning, damage-over-time effects, disruption
CrusaderSSGroup utility, buffs, frontline control

The duplicated Crusader entry above should be treated as one class. The current roster contains Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk, Necromancer, Wizard, Blood Knight, Tempest, and Warlock. When comparing classes, remember that PvE rankings reward clear speed, sustained damage, mobility, survivability, group contribution, and performance in raids and Challenge Rifts. PvP rankings reward crowd control, objective pressure, defensive tools, mobility, disruption, and the ability to survive focus fire.

Best Diablo Immortal classes for PvE

S tier PvE classes

Tempest

Tempest is one of the strongest all-purpose PvE classes because it combines high mobility with reliable area damage and strong sustained pressure. The class can move through open-world zones quickly, reposition during dungeons, and continue attacking while avoiding dangerous boss mechanics.

Tempest is particularly effective for open-world farming and fast dungeon groups. Its movement-based gameplay rewards active positioning, and its Zephyr-focused mechanics can add damage, utility, and flexibility depending on the Legendary Essences you have collected. The main drawback is execution: Tempest performs best when you manage movement, skill timing, and positioning instead of standing still and repeating one ability.

  • Best for: fast farming, solo play, dungeons, mobile melee-ranged combat.
  • Strengths: mobility, clear speed, flexible positioning, strong damage uptime.
  • Weaknesses: more demanding than passive ranged classes and sensitive to poor positioning.
  • F2P view: strong if you obtain useful core Essences, but the class can feel less consistent while your collection is incomplete.

Wizard

Wizard remains one of the safest high-performance PvE choices. The class offers excellent area damage, ranged combat, crowd control, and mobility through skills such as Teleport. Wizard builds can group enemies, apply damage-over-time effects, freeze or slow targets, and maintain distance from dangerous encounters.

Wizard is a strong choice for players who want one class that performs well in solo farming, dungeons, Challenge Rifts, and Helliquary encounters. The class also benefits from having several viable build directions, so you are less dependent on one exact Legendary Essence combination.

Wizard requires more awareness in difficult content because the class is not naturally as durable as a dedicated frontline class. Teleport, defensive skills, and correct placement are part of the damage rotation rather than emergency tools that can be ignored.

  • Best for: ranged players, area damage, crowd control, Challenge Rifts.
  • Strengths: excellent damage coverage, mobility, control, flexible builds.
  • Weaknesses: can be punished quickly when defensive skills are wasted.
  • F2P view: very good because effective farming does not require the highest Resonance investment.

Crusader

Crusader is one of the most valuable group classes in Diablo Immortal. The class combines respectable damage with party buffs, defensive utility, mounted mobility, and strong control. In coordinated dungeon and raid groups, a Crusader can improve the performance of the entire party rather than only contributing personal damage.

Crusader is especially attractive if you regularly play with friends, a Warband, or a clan group. A solo Crusader may clear more slowly than a specialized damage class, but the class remains comfortable because of its durability and ability to move through content efficiently.

The class is less impressive when judged only by dummy damage or solo clear speed. Its real value appears in group content, where damage buffs, control, and defensive effects can reduce downtime and make difficult encounters more reliable.

  • Best for: dungeons, Helliquary raids, organized groups, supportive frontline play.
  • Strengths: group buffs, survivability, control, mobility, strong utility.
  • Weaknesses: solo damage may trail the fastest farming classes.
  • F2P view: excellent for group play because utility remains valuable even when Resonance is modest.

Blood Knight

Blood Knight is a durable melee class with strong sustain, close-range damage, and tools that allow it to remain active in dangerous encounters. The class is comfortable in solo PvE because it can absorb pressure while continuing to deal damage, and it is useful in groups when enemies must be disrupted or held in place.

Blood Knight’s performance depends heavily on selecting a coherent skill and Essence package. Some builds emphasize Skewer and aggressive melee pressure, while others focus on blood effects, survivability, or area control. The class is not always the fastest open-world farmer, but it is forgiving when enemies hit hard.

  • Best for: solo progression, melee players, difficult fights, sustained combat.
  • Strengths: survivability, self-sustain, disruption, strong close-range pressure.
  • Weaknesses: shorter attack range and slower farming than the most mobile classes.
  • F2P view: good for players who value survival and do not want a fragile damage dealer.

A tier PvE classes

Barbarian

Barbarian is one of the easiest classes for fast open-world farming. Whirlwind-style builds, movement skills, and strong melee attacks allow the class to move between packs quickly while maintaining damage. Barbarian is also useful in groups because it can initiate fights, absorb pressure, and provide frontline presence.

Barbarian is slightly less consistent than the top PvE classes in encounters that punish close-range combat or require precise ranged damage. However, the class is forgiving, effective at low and medium progression levels, and enjoyable for players who prefer direct melee combat.

Necromancer

Necromancer is one of the most comfortable solo classes because summons can occupy enemies while you attack from a safer position. The class can provide crowd control, corpses, curses, defensive effects, and sustained damage through minions or specialized spell builds.

Necromancer is particularly useful for players who are still building Combat Rating or learning difficult content. Summons do not remove the need to meet activity requirements, but they can make positioning and recovery easier. In fast groups, Necromancer may clear less explosively than Tempest or Wizard unless the build is carefully optimized.

Demon Hunter

Demon Hunter remains a strong ranged damage class with excellent single-target pressure and efficient open-world farming. The class performs well against bosses and elite targets, and its mobility skills help it avoid danger while maintaining distance.

Demon Hunter is less forgiving than Necromancer or Barbarian because defensive mistakes are punished heavily. It also relies on maintaining a favorable position and keeping enemies within effective attack range. Players who enjoy active ranged combat can still achieve excellent PvE results.

Monk

Monk offers mobility, defensive utility, and group support, but the class usually demands more precise timing than the easier PvE options. Monk can chain movement and control skills, protect allies, and contribute meaningful melee damage when the player understands the rotation.

Monk is a good choice for experienced players who enjoy an active class rather than a simple damage loop. Its performance can vary more than that of Wizard or Barbarian when the player lacks the correct Essences or struggles to maintain skill timing.

Warlock

Warlock is Diablo Immortal’s newest class and focuses on demonology, summoned creatures, portals, and dark magic. Its early placement should be viewed as provisional because a new class requires time for players to discover optimal Essence combinations, Gem setups, and activity-specific builds.

Warlock is promising for players who enjoy ranged spellcasting and summon-based combat. It may become a top-tier choice as the class receives balance adjustments and the community develops more complete builds, but new-class rankings should not be treated as permanent.

Best Diablo Immortal classes for PvP and Battlegrounds

S tier PvP classes

Tempest

Tempest is highly effective in Battlegrounds because movement is central to surviving, contesting objectives, and choosing favorable engagements. The class can pressure backline targets, disengage from unfavorable fights, and use mobility to rotate between lanes.

Tempest does not automatically win fights. Poor movement can place you inside enemy crowd control, and aggressive diving without team support often results in a quick death. Strong Tempest players constantly evaluate escape routes, cooldowns, and the location of both teams.

Blood Knight

Blood Knight is a powerful PvP frontline and disruption class. Defensive tools, shields, control effects, and sustained melee pressure allow Blood Knight to remain active near objectives. The class can force enemies to respond and is especially effective when paired with ranged allies.

Blood Knight is most useful when you play around objectives rather than chasing kills. Enter fights with a purpose, protect your damage dealers, and save defensive abilities for enemy control chains or coordinated bursts.

Wizard

Wizard brings ranged pressure, area control, and crowd control to Battlegrounds. A well-positioned Wizard can protect an objective, punish grouped enemies, and force opponents away from an important path. Teleport also gives Wizard a valuable escape and repositioning tool.

Wizard is vulnerable when caught without defensive cooldowns. Avoid entering melee range without a clear reason, and do not use every control skill offensively if the enemy team has not yet committed.

Crusader

Crusader is one of the best team-oriented PvP classes because it can create space, provide defensive support, disrupt enemy formations, and improve allied damage windows. The class is particularly valuable in coordinated groups, where players understand when to follow a Crusader initiation.

Crusader is less dominant when played as a lone damage chaser. The strongest Battleground approach is to contest objectives, protect vulnerable allies, and use crowd control to create favorable engagements.

Barbarian

Barbarian is a reliable PvP initiator with strong frontline presence and the ability to disrupt enemy positioning. The class can pressure ranged characters, force defensive cooldowns, and remain active in the center of a fight.

Barbarian must avoid diving too far ahead of the team. Entering alone may make you appear durable, but coordinated enemy control can still remove you quickly, especially when your escape and defensive tools are unavailable.

A tier PvP classes

Necromancer

Necromancer provides summons, control, defensive effects, and zone denial. The class can make objectives difficult to approach and can protect teammates by creating layers of pressure between the enemy and the backline.

Necromancer is strongest when the player uses positioning and control rather than standing still behind summons. Enemy mobility can bypass minions, so you must adjust your placement as the battle changes.

Demon Hunter

Demon Hunter can deal heavy ranged damage in PvP, particularly when protected by a frontline. The class is dangerous when allowed to attack freely, but it is highly vulnerable to dives, crowd control, and sudden target switches.

Use movement skills to preserve distance rather than beginning every engagement aggressively. A Demon Hunter that survives longer often contributes more than one that secures an early kill and then dies during the next push.

Monk

Monk can provide mobility, protection, control, and disruptive melee pressure. The class has a high skill ceiling and can be very effective in experienced hands, especially when supporting a coordinated group.

Monk is less forgiving than Blood Knight or Crusader. Skill timing, target selection, and escape planning are essential, and a missed engagement can leave the class without enough resources to survive.

Warlock

Warlock’s PvP potential comes from summoned threats, persistent effects, portals, and disruption. Because the class is new, its competitive position can shift quickly as players discover counters and as Battleground balance changes are applied.

Warlock players should focus on controlling space, forcing enemy movement, and supporting team pushes rather than relying only on personal damage. New-class experimentation is valuable, but you should expect the PvP meta to remain unsettled for a period after release.

Best class for F2P and low-spending players

For a F2P account, class choice matters, but account progression matters more. Combat Rating from equipment, upgrades, Helliquary progression, gear quality, and other permanent systems determines whether you can enter or comfortably complete higher difficulties. Resonance and Legendary Gem quality have a larger impact in competitive PvP than in ordinary farming, so a class cannot completely overcome a major account-power gap.

Crusader is one of the strongest F2P group choices because buffs and defensive utility help the entire party. Necromancer is also comfortable for solo players because summons and control reduce the pressure to perfect every movement. Wizard, Barbarian, and Tempest are excellent F2P choices when you prefer clear speed and are willing to invest time into collecting the right Legendary Essences.

  • Choose Crusader if you regularly play group content and enjoy supporting allies.
  • Choose Necromancer if you mostly play solo or want a forgiving leveling experience.
  • Choose Wizard if you want ranged damage and flexible PvE builds.
  • Choose Barbarian if you want simple melee farming and strong early survivability.
  • Choose Tempest if you are comfortable with an active movement-based playstyle.

Do not spend scarce Platinum or upgrade materials simply because a tier list labels a Gem or Essence as best in slot. Use temporary replacements until you have the required items, and prioritize permanent upgrades that improve Combat Rating, damage, survivability, and activity access.

How class performance changes by activity

Open-world farming

Open-world farming favors movement speed, short cooldowns, broad area damage, and the ability to kill ordinary enemies without stopping. Tempest, Barbarian, Wizard, and Demon Hunter are usually the most comfortable choices. Necromancer can farm safely, but summons may not match the speed of highly mobile classes in a competitive farming group.

Dungeons

Dungeons reward both clear speed and group consistency. Wizard and Tempest contribute strong damage, while Crusader improves the party through utility and buffs. Blood Knight and Barbarian are useful when the group needs a durable melee player who can keep enemies occupied.

Helliquary raids

Helliquary raids reward reliable damage uptime, defensive awareness, and group utility. Crusader is valuable when its support effects improve the party’s damage window. Wizard, Tempest, Demon Hunter, and Blood Knight can perform well when their builds allow them to remain active through boss mechanics.

Challenge Rifts

Challenge Rifts emphasize clear speed, elite control, boss damage, and the ability to survive escalating damage. Wizard and Tempest are strong general choices because they can manage groups efficiently while repositioning. Demon Hunter is valuable when boss damage is the main problem, while Necromancer can provide a safer but sometimes slower clear.

Battlegrounds

Battlegrounds are objective-based matches, not ordinary kill races. Classes that can survive near the Idol, disrupt enemy pushes, protect allies, or force opponents away from a lane often provide more value than classes with higher theoretical damage.

Use Crusader and Blood Knight to contest space, Wizard to control lanes, Tempest to rotate and pressure vulnerable targets, and Barbarian to initiate. Demon Hunter and Necromancer should usually play around team protection rather than entering the center of the fight without support.

Class Change considerations

Class Change allows an established character to test another class without abandoning the account’s broader progression. You retain important character progress such as Paragon development and major account systems, while the new class receives appropriate equipment and can use transferred item progress and Gems according to the current class-change rules.

Class Change is useful when your original class no longer matches your preferred activities. A player who began as Demon Hunter for ranged damage may change to Crusader for organized raids, or move from Barbarian to Wizard for Challenge Rifts. You should still expect to collect and inherit class-specific Legendary Essences, because a class change does not give you every optimal build item automatically.

  • Change class when your preferred activity has changed, not because a tier list moved one class above another.
  • Save useful Legendary items and Essence materials before changing if you expect to test multiple classes.
  • Expect a transition period while you learn new skills, rotations, and positioning rules.
  • Do not judge a new class before establishing a functional skill and Essence combination.

Common class-selection mistakes

MistakeWhy It HurtsBetter Approach
Using one tier list for every modePvE damage and PvP utility are measured differentlyCompare separate PvE and PvP rankings
Copying a build without its core EssencesThe skill rotation may not function as intendedUse practical replacement Essences until the collection is complete
Ignoring Combat RatingA strong class still struggles when content penalties applyUpgrade equipment, Helliquary, and other permanent progression systems
Chasing kills in BattlegroundsDeaths and lost objectives can outweigh personal killsPlay around Idols, lanes, cooldowns, and team positioning
Choosing only for current balanceLive-service balance changes can alter rankingsChoose a class whose playstyle you enjoy
Assuming high Resonance fixes poor playPositioning, control timing, and objective decisions still matterPractice the class role and activity-specific rotation

Practical class recommendations

Choose Tempest if you want the strongest combination of speed, mobility, and active combat. Choose Wizard if you prefer ranged damage, control, and flexible PvE builds. Choose Crusader if group utility and raid value matter more than personal clear speed.

Choose Blood Knight if you want a durable melee class that can survive pressure in both PvE and PvP. Choose Barbarian for straightforward melee farming and aggressive frontline play. Choose Necromancer for a safer solo experience built around summons and control.

Choose Demon Hunter for ranged single-target damage, Monk for a technical mobility-heavy playstyle, and Warlock if you want to explore the newest demon-summoning class while its builds and competitive position continue to develop.

The most reliable long-term choice is the class whose movement, range, survivability, and role match the activities you actually play. A well-geared lower-ranked class with suitable Legendary Essences and strong player decision-making will usually outperform a supposedly superior class that you dislike or cannot position correctly.
