Diablo Immortal’s Helliquary is a permanent end-game raid system built around defeating powerful Helliquary bosses, collecting Demonic Remains, earning raid rewards, and unlocking higher difficulties. The modern Helliquary no longer uses the old level-up progression system: Helliquary Upgrade has been removed, Demonic Remains no longer provide Combat Rating, and players can access the Helliquary Reforge System without first maxing a Helliquary level. Helliquary raids still matter because they provide boss rewards, difficulty access, Reforge-related progression, materials, and powerful boss-affix opportunities.
What the Helliquary does in the current game
The Helliquary is accessed through the Demonic Portal in Westmarch. It is primarily a PvE progression system, not a character class, gear set, Legendary Gem, Challenge Rift, or PvP activity. You fight a sequence of raid bosses at increasing difficulty, usually with a coordinated group, then use the resulting rewards to improve your account and prepare for stronger content.
Older guides often describe the Helliquary as a system that grants passive Combat Rating through Helliquary levels and Demonic Remains. That information is no longer current. The Helliquary Upgrade system has been removed, invested materials were refunded, and Demonic Remains no longer grant Combat Rating. Their remaining bonuses and related Helliquary functions still matter, but you should not treat the modern Helliquary as a direct Combat Rating upgrade track.
The most useful reasons to complete Helliquary raids are:
- Unlocking or progressing through higher difficulty content.
- Claiming first-clear rewards from newly available bosses.
- Collecting boss materials and rewards from the current raid rotation.
- Using the Helliquary Reforge System and related boss progression systems.
- Obtaining Helliquary boss affixes and weapons through associated end-game activities.
- Completing weekly raid rewards efficiently with your clan, Warband, or public group.
How to unlock the Helliquary
The Helliquary becomes available during the early end-game story progression. You must advance through the campaign far enough to complete the relevant Westmarch and Zoltun Kulle story objectives, after which Rayek introduces the Helliquary system.
If the Demonic Portal is not visible in Westmarch, continue the main quest rather than searching for a separate dungeon entrance. New players should prioritize campaign progression, unlock access to the Helliquary, and then return to the system whenever a new raid difficulty becomes available.
Helliquary access is not the same as raid readiness. Unlocking the menu allows you to view bosses and rewards, but each boss difficulty can require a substantially higher Combat Rating and may depend on defeating earlier encounters or progressing through the associated Inferno difficulties.

Current Helliquary boss progression
Helliquary boss availability changes as new major updates add higher Inferno difficulties and new raid encounters. The following bosses are part of the modern Helliquary progression and are commonly encountered across the current end-game structure:
| Boss or encounter | Role in progression | What to check before entering |
|---|---|---|
| Chaos Herald Pyl | Introductory Helliquary encounter | Use the in-game Codex and Demonic Portal to confirm availability. |
| Lassal the Flame-spun | Early Helliquary raid boss | Meet the displayed Combat Rating and learn the movement mechanics. |
| Vitaath the Shivering Death | Early raid progression and legacy boss content | Check whether the current rotation offers the encounter and its rewards. |
| Gorgothra the Claimer | Higher Helliquary progression boss | Prepare for statues, beams, poison zones, and petrification mechanics. |
| Beledwe and Gishtur | Two-boss Helliquary encounter | Coordinate target priority and avoid overlapping fire-based mechanics. |
| Izilech the Misshapen | Higher-tier Helliquary progression | Use the current difficulty requirement shown in the raid interface. |
| Later Inferno bosses | Current end-game progression | Use the in-game boss list because names, order, and requirements change with major updates. |
Do not rely on an old fixed boss list when planning current progression. Diablo Immortal has retired, rotated, and reintroduced Helliquary encounters through special events and newer systems. The Demonic Portal is the authoritative place to confirm which bosses are currently active, which difficulties are unlocked, and which rewards are available.
Helliquary raid requirements
The main requirement for a Helliquary boss is the Combat Rating displayed in the raid interface. Combat Rating is a PvE power check: if your Combat Rating is below the recommended value, you take substantially more damage and deal less effective damage against the encounter. A high Resonance total does not automatically compensate for being far below the required Combat Rating.
Some encounters also require previous bosses to be defeated or a particular Inferno difficulty to be unlocked. Difficulty progression is therefore sequential for many players: you improve your gear and other progression systems, defeat the required Helliquary boss, unlock the next difficulty, and then repeat the process.
Before joining a raid, check the following:
- Your Combat Rating compared with the displayed boss requirement.
- Whether the boss difficulty is already unlocked on your character.
- Whether the encounter is part of the current reward rotation.
- Whether you have already reached the reward limit for the current reset period.
- Whether your skills are appropriate for sustained single-target damage and survival.
- Whether the group has enough damage, healing, shielding, crowd control, or resurrection support.
How Helliquary raid rewards work
Helliquary rewards are divided into several categories. A successful clear can provide boss-related materials, equipment, gold, and other progression rewards. The exact reward list depends on the boss, difficulty, current update, and whether the clear is eligible for rewards.
First-clear rewards
The first time you defeat a newly available Helliquary boss or difficulty, you can receive first-clear rewards. These rewards are especially valuable because they help you progress into the next stage of the Helliquary system and may include materials that are not obtained as efficiently from repeat clears.
Always claim first-clear rewards before spending time farming lower difficulties. If a new boss is available but your Combat Rating is slightly short, improve your equipment and return to the boss rather than repeatedly farming content that no longer advances your account.
Repeat-clear rewards
Repeat clears provide the normal rewards associated with the current Helliquary rotation. These may include equipment, gold, boss materials, and other items shown in the raid interface. Repeat rewards are usually subject to a reset schedule and a limited number of eligible reward claims.
Defeating a boss after the reward limit has been reached may still help your group or complete a social objective, but it does not necessarily provide another full reward package for your character. Check the reward indicator in the Helliquary screen before joining additional clears.
Demonic Remains
Helliquary bosses can provide Demonic Remains associated with the defeated boss. Demonic Remains can be stored and used within the Helliquary system, but they should not be described as direct Combat Rating sources in the current version.
Keep useful Demonic Remains available for the systems that currently use them. Salvaging, reforging, or replacing a remain should be a deliberate decision because the value of a remain depends on its bonus, your active progression goals, and the current Helliquary interface.
Helliquary boss affixes and weapons
Modern Diablo Immortal updates have expanded Helliquary-related progression beyond the original Demonic Remains model. Some associated activities can reward weapons infused with Helliquary boss affixes. These affixes can activate through Basic or Ultimate attacks and provide additional effects during combat.
Helliquary boss-affix weapons are activity-specific progression options, not universal replacements for your best Legendary items. Test them in the activity where their effect is designed to function, and compare their practical damage or utility with your current build before replacing a well-optimized weapon.
How to prepare for a Helliquary boss
Use a raid build, not an open-world farming build
Open-world builds usually prioritize movement speed, area damage, and rapid monster grouping. Helliquary bosses reward sustained single-target damage, defensive cooldowns, reliable positioning, and resistance to mechanics.
Replace skills that only work against large groups with abilities that maintain damage on one boss. Keep at least one defensive or mobility skill when the encounter contains lethal area attacks, forced movement, beams, freezing, petrification, or summoned enemies.
Raise Combat Rating efficiently
When you are below the required Combat Rating, prioritize high-impact upgrades rather than spending every resource on small secondary-stat improvements. Review your equipped Legendary items, upgrade your equipment at the Blacksmith, replace low-level pieces, and move into higher difficulty content as soon as your account can survive it.
Combat Rating can come from equipment quality, equipment upgrades, Paragon progression, Legendary Gems, normal Gems, and other account systems. Resonance and secondary attributes affect performance, but they are not interchangeable with Combat Rating. A character can have strong damage or high Resonance and still be under the required PvE Combat Rating for a Helliquary boss.
Study the encounter mechanics
Helliquary bosses are not simple damage checks. Most encounters contain multiple phases, and later health bars often introduce new attacks or hazards. A group that ignores mechanics can wipe even when its combined Combat Rating is sufficient.
- Read the boss ability prompts before the raid begins.
- Spread out when the boss creates targeted areas or projectiles.
- Move away from beams, poison, fire, and persistent ground effects.
- Destroy or avoid summoned enemies when they threaten the group.
- Save defensive skills for phase transitions and unavoidable attacks.
- Resurrect fallen allies only when the area is safe.
- Follow the raid leader’s target priority during multi-boss encounters.
Boss-specific practical advice
Chaos Herald Pyl
Chaos Herald Pyl is the introductory Helliquary encounter and is intended to teach the system’s basic rhythm. Use the fight to practice reading telegraphs, staying behind or beside the boss when appropriate, and maintaining damage while avoiding obvious attacks.
Do not treat the introductory encounter as proof that every Helliquary boss can be soloed. Later raids use more demanding mechanics and are designed around group participation.
Lassal the Flame-spun
Lassal is one of the first major Helliquary raids. The most common mistakes are standing in damaging fire effects, ignoring phase changes, and using every defensive cooldown at the start of the fight.
Use a balanced group with sustained damage and enough survivability to handle repeated area attacks. Players who are close to the recommended Combat Rating should focus more on mechanics than on maximizing theoretical damage.
Vitaath the Shivering Death
Vitaath tests movement, positioning, and the group’s ability to respond to changing attack patterns. Avoid clustering when the encounter marks players or creates dangerous areas, and do not remain in front of the boss during wide attacks.
If Vitaath appears through a special event or rotation rather than normal progression, follow the current event rules shown in the game. Older guides may describe Vitaath as a mandatory step even when the current account path treats the encounter differently.
Gorgothra the Claimer
Gorgothra combines summoned threats with dangerous visual mechanics. Statues can create lethal beams, while poison and petrification effects punish players who remain stationary or fail to watch the arena.
Keep moving without scattering so far that support skills cannot reach the group. Assign responsibility for summoned enemies, and avoid standing in the gaze or beam paths of the statues. Ranged classes should still prioritize mechanics over maximum distance damage.
Beledwe and Gishtur
The twin-boss encounter requires clear target coordination. Beledwe uses flame-based attacks, meteor strikes, and burning orbs, while the encounter as a whole forces players to manage two threats instead of one.
Follow the raid leader’s target order and avoid splitting damage randomly. When both bosses are active, position the group so that area attacks do not overlap the escape routes needed for the next mechanic.
Izilech and later Inferno bosses
Higher-tier bosses are designed around the current Inferno progression and may have requirements that change when the game receives a major update. Use the in-game Combat Rating value and boss description instead of copying a requirement from an older guide.
At this stage, survival usually becomes the main bottleneck. Replace fragile damage-only skills when deaths interrupt the group’s damage cycle, and use support effects that improve uptime, shielding, healing, crowd control, or boss vulnerability windows.
Helliquary rewards by player goal
| Player goal | Best Helliquary priority | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| New end-game player | Unlock the system and complete first clears | First-clear rewards and boss progression open the next stage of PvE content. |
| F2P player | Claim every eligible weekly reward and improve Combat Rating efficiently | Helliquary rewards provide time-gated progression without requiring paid materials. |
| Low-spender player | Combine Helliquary clears with gear, Gem, and Paragon upgrades | Balanced progression prevents overinvesting in one power system. |
| Developed account | Farm current high-difficulty rewards and optimize boss-affix options | Higher difficulties provide more relevant end-game progression and better activity efficiency. |
| Solo-focused player | Use public raids, clan groups, or Warband groups | Helliquary progression is built around group encounters rather than solo farming. |
F2P and low-spender Helliquary strategy
Helliquary raids are suitable for free-to-play players because the main barrier is account progression and group access, not a required purchase. The most efficient approach is to complete eligible clears consistently, avoid wasting upgrade materials on temporary gear, and improve Combat Rating through equipment and guaranteed progression systems before chasing expensive Gem upgrades.
Use the free Battle Pass track, daily activities, Bounties, Bestiary progress, dungeons, Elder Rifts, and events to strengthen your character between raid resets. A free player who completes routine content consistently can progress more reliably than a player who spends resources inefficiently but skips time-gated activities.
Low spenders should avoid buying power specifically to compensate for poor mechanics. Resonance can improve a character, but it does not remove the need to meet the Helliquary Combat Rating requirement or respond correctly to boss attacks.
Reset timing and reward limits
Helliquary rewards use reset rules, and the exact counter is displayed in the raid interface. Current players should trust the in-game reward indicator rather than an old guide that lists a permanent reward schedule. The reward limit can apply across eligible boss clears, so repeating the same encounter after collecting the available rewards may not be the best use of your time.
Plan Helliquary raids around the reset period:
- Check the Helliquary menu for available bosses and reward eligibility.
- Complete newly unlocked first clears before farming older encounters.
- Use the available reward claims on the highest difficulty you can clear reliably.
- Join clan, Warband, or public groups when you need help with a boss.
- Confirm that the reward counter has reset before starting the next weekly cycle.
If a stronger player carries the damage, remain active and follow mechanics. A successful clear is useful, but you should still learn the encounter because future difficulties increase the punishment for standing in hazards and failing phase objectives.
Common Helliquary mistakes
| Mistake | Why it hurts | Better approach |
|---|---|---|
| Following a launch-era Helliquary guide | Old guides describe removed upgrades and outdated rewards. | Check the current Helliquary interface and update notes. |
| Ignoring the Combat Rating requirement | Underpowered characters take heavier damage and contribute less effective damage. | Improve equipment and progression before forcing the encounter. |
| Using an open-world farming build | Area damage and movement skills may perform poorly against bosses. | Equip sustained single-target damage and defensive utility. |
| Standing in visual effects | Boss hazards often cause more damage than ordinary attacks. | Watch the arena and move before the effect activates. |
| Spending reward claims on low difficulties | Limited rewards may be consumed before higher-value clears. | Use the highest reliable difficulty available. |
| Confusing Resonance with Combat Rating | High Gem investment does not automatically satisfy a PvE requirement. | Compare your actual Combat Rating with the boss value. |
| Salvaging every Demonic Remain immediately | Some remains may be useful for current Helliquary systems. | Review the remain’s effect before salvaging or reforging it. |
Efficient Helliquary routine
At the start of each reset cycle, open the Helliquary and identify the highest boss difficulty that you can clear without repeated wipes. Join a prepared group, use a raid-appropriate build, and claim first-clear rewards before repeat rewards.
After the raid, spend your normal progression resources in the order that produces the largest practical improvement: replace weak equipment, upgrade gear, improve relevant Gems when affordable, and continue progressing through Paragon and difficulty content. Do not postpone a guaranteed upgrade while waiting for a random Legendary drop.
For groups, assign a raid leader, explain the most dangerous mechanic before starting, and agree on target priority for multi-boss encounters. A short preparation briefing is usually more valuable than asking every player to maximize damage independently.
When to move to the next Helliquary difficulty
Move upward when your Combat Rating meets the displayed requirement, your character survives the current difficulty comfortably, and your group can complete the boss without relying on repeated deaths. Clearing a higher difficulty slowly but consistently is more useful than repeatedly farming a lower difficulty solely because the fight is faster.
If you cannot progress, improve Combat Rating through equipment upgrades, higher-quality drops from the best available difficulty, Paragon progression, Legendary Gems, normal Gems, and other permanent account systems. Recheck your build after every major upgrade because a skill or Essence setup designed for open-world farming may not be suitable for the next Helliquary boss.
