Need Help Progressing in Diablo Immortal?

The Diablo Immortal Warlock leveling guide is primarily a class-specific beginner progression and character-leveling guide. It focuses on reaching Level 60 efficiently, selecting skills as they unlock, using early Legendary Essences intelligently, completing the campaign without wasting time, and transitioning into Paragon progression. The recommendations below emphasize practical PvE leveling rather than a permanent endgame build, because Warlock skill choices and Legendary Essences change significantly as your collection develops.

What the Warlock Does During Leveling

The Warlock is Diablo Immortal’s tenth class and specializes in summoning demons, controlling battlefield space, applying damage-over-time effects, and sacrificing Life or minions to amplify damage. The class is effective for solo questing because the Soulgorger and other summoned demons can occupy enemies while you cast from a safer position.

Warlock leveling is strongest when you combine one reliable summon, one area-damage skill, one movement or control skill, and one ability that improves your survival. Do not build around every new skill immediately. Several Warlock abilities consume your Life, require a demon to be nearby, or become much stronger only after you obtain the correct Legendary Essence.

The Warlock is especially suitable for:

  • Solo campaign progression and open-world farming.
  • Players who prefer ranged combat and summoned allies.
  • Dungeon groups that benefit from area damage, crowd control, and damage amplification.
  • Players who want a forgiving leveling class with built-in healing through the Soulgorger.

The class is less comfortable when enemies frequently interrupt your casts, remove summons, or force constant close-range movement. During early leveling, prioritize reliable damage and survivability over complicated sacrifice rotations.

How to Start a Warlock

You can create a new Warlock or use Class Change at the Shifting Flames in Westmarch. The Warlock Origin Quest, Power’s Price, introduces the class, its demonic summons, and the Soulgorger. Complete the introductory quest even if you already understand the class, because it provides a practical explanation of the Warlock’s core mechanics.

The Warlock also has temporary release activities designed to showcase the class. The Fractured Plane variant provides randomized Legendary Essences, while the Warlock Trial Dungeon offers preset builds and prepared equipment. These activities are useful for testing skills, but they do not replace normal character progression or guarantee that the same Legendary items will drop on your account.

Best Warlock Leveling Skills

Your exact skill loadout changes as abilities unlock. The following progression uses the strongest general-purpose options for campaign quests, bounties, dungeons, and open-world enemies. Replace a skill if your available Legendary Essences clearly support another setup.

Progression stageRecommended skillsPurpose
Start to Level 7Lunatic Rush, Soulgorger, Lash of PainFast early damage with a summon and area control
Level 8 to 14Lunatic Rush, Demonic Portal, Burning Ascent, Lash of PainAdds a summon, movement, and stronger area damage
Level 15 to 27Lunatic Rush, Demonic Portal, Burning Ascent, Warp Strike or Infernal EruptionImproves mobility, crowd control, and elite damage
Level 28 to 37Lunatic Rush, Demonic Portal, Infernal Eruption, Brimstone GatewayStrong area damage with faster travel between objectives
Level 38 to 43Lunatic Rush, Demonic Portal, Infernal Eruption, Spiteful SacrificeHigh damage when you can safely spend Life
Level 44 to 60Hellfire Bolt or Lunatic Rush, Demonic Portal, Infernal Eruption, Siphon Life or Devouring DarknessFlexible ranged damage, summons, healing, and area control

Early skills: Lunatic Rush and Lash of Pain

Lunatic Rush summons a Fallen Lunatic that rushes enemies and explodes on contact. It is excellent for leveling because you can send the summoned demon into a group while repositioning or attacking another target. Its ultimate, Lunatic Legion, creates a larger rift and summons three Fallen Lunatics, making it particularly effective against clustered enemies.

Lash of Pain provides reliable area damage and knock-up control. If one of your demons is inside the area, the chains also strike that demon and increase its Attack Speed and damage for a short duration. Use Lash of Pain on top of your summons rather than casting it at the edge of a group.

Demonic Portal and Burning Ascent

Demonic Portal unlocks at Level 3 and is the foundation of most early Warlock setups. The skill can summon different demons, including the Bloodlord, Demonic Soldier, or Rasplet Hulk. Use the Bloodlord when you need a tougher engager and knockback, the Demonic Soldier for additional bodies and simple damage, and the Rasplet Hulk when you want stronger single-target pressure and Bleed effects.

Burning Ascent unlocks at Level 8. It summons a Hellflyer that breathes flames across enemies and then carries you forward, granting increased Movement Speed after the attack. Burning Ascent is useful for leveling because it combines damage, mobility, and a way to cross short gaps between enemy packs.

Warp Strike and Infernal Eruption

Warp Strike unlocks at Level 15 and commands the Soulgorger to leap through a portal. The attack damages and knocks up enemies while increasing the Soulgorger’s Attack Speed. Use it to begin fights, interrupt dangerous enemies, or move the Soulgorger onto a priority target.

Infernal Eruption unlocks at Level 20 and creates a zone of Hellfire geysers. Charging the skill makes the impact area smaller and the eruptions more concentrated. Place the skill where enemies are already grouped or where your Soulgorger is holding an elite. Demons struck by the eruption become engulfed in Hellfire and damage nearby enemies, so positioning the Soulgorger inside the area increases the value of the cast.

Brimstone Gateway

Brimstone Gateway unlocks at Level 28. It creates linked portals that allow you and nearby allies to travel between two locations. The ability is valuable during campaign quests, bounties, and open-world farming because movement between objectives often matters more than a small increase in damage.

Use Brimstone Gateway when traveling between distant objectives or after clearing a group. Replace it with a damage skill for short dungeon encounters where the party is already moving efficiently.

Spiteful Sacrifice, Devouring Darkness, and Siphon Life

Spiteful Sacrifice unlocks at Level 38 and consumes part of your current Life while empowering your Primary Attacks with shadowy blasts. It is powerful against dense groups, but it should not be used automatically when your Life is already low. The skill becomes more attractive once your equipment, Soulgorger healing, and Siphon Life support the cost.

Devouring Darkness unlocks at Level 41. It pulls enemies toward a central location before releasing shadowy explosions. The charging mechanic consumes Life but increases the number of explosions. Use the skill against elites, dungeon packs, and enemies affected by crowd control rather than charging it in the middle of an uncontrolled fight.

Siphon Life unlocks at Level 44 and transfers Life between you and the Soulgorger while empowering the recipient. This is the safest late-leveling option when you are taking frequent damage. Use it to heal yourself when the Soulgorger is healthy, or heal the Soulgorger when it is absorbing attacks for you.

For ordinary enemy groups, begin with Demonic Portal to create a frontline. Position the Soulgorger and the summoned demon together, then cast Lash of Pain over the summons so they receive its frenzy effect. Follow with Infernal Eruption underneath the pack and continue attacking with Lunatic Rush or Hellfire Bolt.

  1. Summon the Soulgorger and place Demonic Portal’s demon near the target group.
  2. Use Warp Strike when the Soulgorger needs to engage, interrupt, or reposition.
  3. Cast Lash of Pain over a demon whenever the group is stable.
  4. Place Infernal Eruption beneath elites or clustered enemies.
  5. Use Burning Ascent to reposition, travel, or clear a narrow line of enemies.
  6. Use Siphon Life when either you or the Soulgorger needs healing.
  7. Use Spiteful Sacrifice or Devouring Darkness only when your current Life can support the cost.

Against a single elite, do not spend every cooldown at once. Keep one defensive or movement tool available, especially before entering a higher difficulty. The Soulgorger can absorb pressure, but it is not invulnerable. If the demon dies, your damage and survivability may drop sharply until it returns.

Skill Priorities by Activity

ActivityPreferred focusUseful adjustments
Campaign questsSummons, area damage, mobilityUse Brimstone Gateway when travel is slow
Open-world farmingMovement speed and instant area damageUse Burning Ascent and a fast-clearing Demonic Portal demon
DungeonsPack damage and group controlUse Infernal Eruption, Lash of Pain, and Warp Strike
Elite enemiesSustained damage and healingUse Siphon Life and avoid unnecessary Life-sacrifice skills
Challenge RiftsSurvivability and controlled burstKeep a movement or defensive skill instead of using four damage skills

For leveling, the fastest setup is not always the highest theoretical damage setup. A build that moves quickly, survives mistakes, and clears several enemies at once usually produces better progress than a fragile build that requires perfect positioning.

Primary Attack Choice

Lunatic Rush is the better default Primary Attack for early leveling because the Fallen Lunatic adds immediate area damage and does not require you to stand still. It also works naturally with a summon-focused setup.

Hellfire Bolt unlocks at Level 34. It allows you to move and attack simultaneously, although your Movement Speed is reduced while using it. Hellfire Bolt is useful against elites and bosses because it provides dependable ranged damage. Its ultimate, Rain of Chaos, calls down Hellfire meteors and adds larger meteors to your Primary Attacks.

Use Lunatic Rush for fast open-world clearing and Hellfire Bolt when you need more consistent single-target pressure. Change the Primary Attack based on your Legendary Essences rather than treating one option as permanently superior.

Early Legendary Essence Priorities

Warlock has more than 50 class Legendary items, but a new character will not obtain a complete build immediately. During leveling, choose Essences that improve the skills you actually press rather than keeping a higher-stat item with an irrelevant effect.

Equipment slotUseful early Essence directionWhy it helps while leveling
Main HandMordscrape, Pointed Respite, Torment Anew, or Cavalier CutterImproves Demonic Portal, summons, Hellfire Bolt, or Soulgorger survival
Off-HandFlensed Skull of Klavar, Jawless Grin, or a Warp Strike EssenceAdds ranged Hellfire damage, improves Burning damage, or strengthens control
ChestWinnow Wrap, Watch Them Writhe, Heretic Pride, or Under PressureSupports Hellswarm, Infernal Eruption, Warp Strike, or Blood Offering
LegsRivenrile, Helltracker, or an available Spiteful Sacrifice EssenceImproves armor-breaking, Soulgorger damage, or sacrifice-based clearing
HelmetRidicule the Flames, Giltjagg, or a Hellswarm EssenceImproves Burning damage, movement, or plague-based clearing

Mordscrape changes Demonic Portal so it can summon a Hellflyer that creates a vortex following enemies. It is a strong leveling option when you want to keep packs grouped and moving toward you.

Pointed Respite allows Demonic Portal to summon a Fetish Chieftain that increases the Primary Attack Speed of nearby summons and heals them. This is particularly useful when you are using several demons and want more consistent Soulgorger support.

Cavalier Cutter helps prevent the Soulgorger from dying by placing it into a temporary blood frenzy instead. This is a practical defensive choice for new players who are still learning positioning.

Winnow Wrap causes Hellswarm to shatter enemy armor and increase the damage enemies take. It is useful in both solo play and groups because the effect improves the damage dealt by your other skills and allies.

Heretic Pride reduces damage taken by the Soulgorger while increasing its damage after Warp Strike. Choose it when the Soulgorger is dying before enemies do.

Do not farm a specific Essence for hours during the campaign. Extract useful effects when they appear, inherit them through the Essence Transfer system, and keep replacing low-stat gear with higher-stat upgrades. Legendary item drops are random, so the efficient goal is to improve the build gradually rather than wait for a perfect piece.

Gear and Stat Priorities While Leveling

Your first gear priority is Combat Rating. Equip newly dropped items when they provide a meaningful Combat Rating increase, then check whether the Legendary effect supports your current skills. During the early campaign, a large primary-stat upgrade usually matters more than preserving a minor Essence effect.

  • Keep the highest Combat Rating item in each slot unless its effect is completely unusable.
  • Upgrade equipment at the Blacksmith regularly instead of saving all materials.
  • Use Essence Transfer to preserve useful Warlock effects when replacing Legendary items.
  • Replace old items whenever newer equipment improves your primary attributes and Combat Rating.
  • Do not spend rare resources trying to perfect secondary attributes before reaching endgame difficulty.

For offensive attributes, prioritize damage, Attack Speed, Critical Hit Chance, and effects that improve summons or damage-over-time skills when available. For defense, Life, Armor, resistance, and cooldown-related benefits are valuable because the Warlock often fights behind a demon but still loses Life through sacrifice skills.

Do not confuse Combat Rating with Resonance. Combat Rating helps determine whether you are strong enough for a difficulty or activity, while Resonance primarily reflects Legendary Gem investment and contributes to character power in a different way.

Campaign and Activity Order

The main quest should remain your default activity while leveling. Campaign quests provide experience, unlock systems, introduce new regions, and direct you toward activities that become relevant at your current progression stage.

  1. Follow the main quest until a new activity or difficulty becomes available.
  2. Complete the tutorial and class-related objectives, including the Warlock introduction.
  3. Accept Bounties when they are available and route them through nearby zones where possible.
  4. Complete Battle Pass activities that match your current quest route.
  5. Run dungeons when the Battle Pass or a quest directs you to them, or when you need an efficient group experience session.
  6. Use Elder Rifts when you have the required crests or need Rift-related rewards.
  7. Complete Bestiary turn-ins when you have collected the required Monstrous Essence pages.
  8. Upgrade gear and return to the main quest whenever your Combat Rating allows progression.

Battle Pass activity points are valuable because the Battle Pass provides experience and progression rewards in addition to its activity-specific benefits. The most efficient method is to combine Battle Pass tasks with campaign quests, bounties, dungeons, and Elder Rifts rather than repeating an activity that gives little additional value.

Campaign progression versus experience farming

Campaign progression is normally the best choice when a quest is available and your Combat Rating is sufficient. If a quest becomes difficult, run nearby bounties, dungeons, or open-world activities until you obtain stronger equipment. Avoid spending long periods farming a low-level zone when a higher-level activity is available.

Diablo Immortal also uses catch-up systems for characters who are behind the relevant server progression. The exact benefit can vary with the live server state, so use the in-game indicators rather than assuming a fixed experience multiplier or guaranteed leveling time.

Level 60 and the Transition to Paragon

Reaching Level 60 is not the end of Warlock progression. After the character-level phase, progression shifts toward Paragon levels, higher difficulties, stronger equipment, Legendary Gem development, Helliquary upgrades, Challenge Rifts, and set items.

At the transition point, replace temporary leveling skills gradually rather than rebuilding everything at once. First identify whether your account is moving toward a summon build, a damage-over-time build, a sacrifice build, or a mixed setup. Then target Legendary Essences and set items that support that direction.

Your first Paragon priorities should be:

  • Increase Combat Rating through higher-quality equipment and upgrades.
  • Complete available Challenge Rift progression to improve access to stronger rewards and systems.
  • Participate in Helliquary activities as soon as your account can reasonably complete them.
  • Run dungeons for set items while checking the current in-game drop locations.
  • Use Elder Rifts and free Legendary Gem resources consistently.
  • Continue completing Battle Pass activities and weekly progression objectives.

Do not immediately discard a leveling Essence simply because it is not considered a final endgame choice. A temporary effect that improves your current clear speed can be more valuable than an endgame Essence that you cannot yet support with the required skills, gems, or set bonuses.

Legendary Gems for a New Warlock

During leveling, use the best Legendary Gems you own rather than delaying upgrades while waiting for an expensive five-star gem. Gems that improve damage, movement, survivability, summons, or repeated attacks are generally more useful than highly specialized effects that require a complete endgame build.

The current Warlock release also introduced Interminus Stone, The Jolted Eye, and Hellbound Desire. Hellbound Desire is particularly relevant to sustained combat because it increases damage and Movement Speed while applying Soul Shard Fragments that make affected enemies take increased damage from you. A free Hellbound Desire reward was available during the limited release period, but temporary reward windows should not be treated as permanent account benefits.

For F2P players, focus on bound gems, gem upgrades with reliable long-term value, and consistent Elder Rift participation. Do not sacrifice a useful lower-cost gem merely to increase Resonance slightly if the replacement has poor synergy with your Warlock skills.

F2P and Low-Spender Leveling Advice

Warlock is practical for F2P progression because the class can clear quests with summons and does not require a complete five-star Legendary Gem setup to function. The largest gains during early progression usually come from regular activity completion, gear upgrades, Combat Rating improvements, and Essence Transfer rather than expensive gem purchases.

  • Keep all useful Warlock Legendary items until their Essences have been extracted.
  • Spend Platinum carefully and avoid buying a gem only because it is currently popular.
  • Use free Battle Pass and event rewards on resources that improve the entire account.
  • Prioritize gems that work in both open-world PvE and dungeons.
  • Do not chase perfect set items before your difficulty level makes their statistics relevant.
  • Save rare materials when the upgrade would soon be replaced by a higher-difficulty item.

Low spenders can gain convenience from additional crests or Battle Pass rewards, but spending does not remove RNG from Legendary item or gem acquisition. Treat every purchased resource as an increase in attempts, not a guarantee of a particular drop.

Common Warlock Leveling Mistakes

MistakeWhy it hurts progressionBetter approach
Using every Life-sacrifice skill togetherYou become vulnerable before the enemy group is defeatedAdd sacrifice abilities one at a time and keep Siphon Life or another recovery tool
Ignoring Soulgorger positioningSeveral Warlock effects require a demon to be nearbyPlace the Soulgorger inside Infernal Eruption and near Lash of Pain
Keeping low-Combat-Rating gear for an old EssenceThe lost attributes can outweigh the temporary skill effectTransfer the Essence and equip the stronger item
Standing beside the frontlineThe Warlock loses the safety provided by summoned demonsAttack from behind the Soulgorger and reposition with Burning Ascent or Brimstone Gateway
Farming one zone for too longExperience and equipment become inefficientReturn to campaign quests, bounties, dungeons, and current activities
Replacing all skills at every unlockThe build becomes inconsistent and difficult to evaluateTest one new skill while keeping a stable summon and damage core

Practical Warlock Leveling Checklist

Before each play session, check whether the main quest is available and whether your current Combat Rating is sufficient for the next objective. If you are progressing smoothly, continue the campaign. If you are blocked, complete nearby Bounties, Battle Pass activities, a dungeon, or an Elder Rift before returning to the quest.

  • Keep the Soulgorger alive and use it as your frontline.
  • Cast Lash of Pain over your demons whenever possible.
  • Place Infernal Eruption beneath stationary enemies and elites.
  • Use Burning Ascent for movement instead of saving it for damage only.
  • Reserve Spiteful Sacrifice and Devouring Darkness for moments when your Life pool can support them.
  • Upgrade equipment frequently and transfer useful Essences.
  • Complete Bestiary turn-ins instead of allowing Monstrous Essence pages to remain unsubmitted.
  • Use Battle Pass activities to support the route you are already taking.
  • At Level 60, shift attention toward Paragon, Challenge Rifts, Helliquary, set items, and a permanent endgame build.
