GTA 6 has two game editions: Standard Edition and Ultimate Edition. Standard costs $79.99 in the US, while Ultimate costs $99.99 and adds the Ultimate Edition Upgrade with exclusive vehicles, weapons, styles, locations and other bonuses tied to Jason and Lucia's story. The important part: you can buy Standard first and upgrade later, so there is no need to pay for Ultimate now if you are unsure.
Last verified: October 1, 2026. This comparison separates the actual editions from pre-order bonuses, the physical code-in-box version and Rockstar's new Vice City Collector's Box, which does not include the game.

Which GTA 6 Edition Should You Buy?
For most players who are unsure, Standard Edition is the safer starting point. It contains Grand Theft Auto VI, and Rockstar allows Standard owners to purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately later.
That changes the buying decision substantially. You do not need to spend the extra $20 or €20 simply because you are afraid the Ultimate content will disappear. You can start with Standard, see how much the extra vehicles, customization and locations matter to you, and upgrade afterward.
- Choose Standard if you mainly want GTA VI, prefer the lowest entry price, want the physical box, or are undecided about the extra content.
- Choose Ultimate if you already know you want Rockstar's additional vehicles, weapons, customization content and story-linked bonuses from the start.
- Choose Standard + upgrade later if you want the lowest-risk option. Rockstar officially supports this path.
What Does GTA 6 Standard Edition Include?
The Standard Edition includes Grand Theft Auto VI itself. It is the base game rather than a reduced or trial version.
Qualifying purchases can also receive the Vintage Vice City Pack, but this is a promotional bonus and should not be confused with Standard Edition content.
For digital purchases before November 20, 2026, Rockstar currently also includes one free month of GTA+. This offer applies to eligible digital Standard and Ultimate purchases rather than being an Ultimate-exclusive benefit.
What Does GTA 6 Ultimate Edition Add?
Ultimate Edition includes Grand Theft Auto VI plus the GTA VI: Ultimate Edition Upgrade. Rockstar describes its bonuses as content spread throughout Jason and Lucia's story, with additional items becoming available as chapters progress.
Vehicles and vehicle content
- '95 Grotti Cheetah
- Jason's Safehouse Vehicles
- Ganado Retro Build
- Shitzu Squalo
- '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy and Garage
Weapons
- Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers
- Personalized Weapon Variants
Style and customization
- Vice City Styles
- Rideout Customs Mod Shop
- Sara's Unisex Salon
- Stock 305 Clothing Store
- Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor
- One-Eyed Willie's Mod Shop
- Goodtime Gear
Additional locations and collections
- PTT Youngin$ Compound
- Classic Car Collection
The useful distinction is that Ultimate is not simply a cosmetic skin bundle. Its official list reaches across vehicles, weapons, customization businesses and additional named content connected to the story world.
Do You Get All Ultimate Edition Bonuses Immediately?
No. Rockstar says the Ultimate bonuses are threaded throughout Jason and Lucia's story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter.
That means buying Ultimate does not necessarily place the entire bonus catalog in your inventory the moment you first start GTA 6. Some benefits are intended to appear as the campaign progresses.
This is one reason the upgrade-later option matters: players who start with Standard can decide later whether the additional content is worth adding.
Can You Upgrade GTA 6 Standard to Ultimate Later?
Yes. Rockstar Support confirms that Standard Edition owners can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately through PlayStation or Microsoft storefronts after their game code has been redeemed.
Current Xbox listings in the US and Eurozone show the upgrade at approximately the same $20 / €20 difference between Standard and Ultimate. Platform pricing can change, so check the current storefront before buying.
This is arguably the most important purchasing detail because it removes most of the pressure to choose Ultimate during the initial pre-order period.
Does GTA 6 Ultimate Edition Give Early Access?
No early-play entitlement is currently listed for Ultimate Edition. Both editions are scheduled for November 19, 2026, and both eligible digital versions can preload from November 12.
Preloading seven days early means the game files can be downloaded before launch. It does not mean Ultimate owners can start playing seven days earlier.
For the current launch schedule, see our GTA 6 release date guide.
GTA 6 Pre-Order Bonuses Are Separate From the Edition
This is one of the easiest details to misunderstand. The Vintage Vice City Pack is a purchase-window bonus, not an Ultimate Edition feature.
Eligible purchases before November 20 include:
- '55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage
- Outfits and Hairstyles
- Exclusive Weapon Pattern
Eligible digital purchases also include one month of GTA+.
Therefore, paying for Ultimate is not required to receive the Vintage Vice City Pack. The main reason to buy Ultimate is the separate Ultimate Edition Upgrade content.
Standard Digital vs Physical: There Is No GTA 6 Disc
Standard Edition is available digitally and as a physical boxed product, but the current physical version is unusual: the box contains a download code rather than a game disc.
Rockstar says physical versions start becoming available on November 12 so buyers can redeem the code and preload GTA VI before release.
There is currently no physical Ultimate Edition. A physical Standard owner can redeem the game code and then buy the digital Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately.
Buying a GTA 6 Code From Another Country: Region Warning
This matters particularly for people importing cheaper physical copies. Rockstar states that PlayStation download codes must match the region of the player's PlayStation account.
France, Germany and Spain are included in Rockstar's Rest of EMEA and Asia PlayStation code region, but purchasing outside your account region can still cause activation problems. Rockstar recommends buying from a retailer in the country associated with your platform account.
Rockstar currently states that Xbox download codes are not region-locked. Check the official GTA VI editions and code restrictions before importing a copy.
Is There a GTA 6 Collector's Edition?
Rockstar has not announced a separate Collector's Edition of the GTA 6 game. This is important because the recently announced The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection can easily be mistaken for one.
The Vice City Collection is a $399.99 premium Collector's Box containing physical merchandise such as a Macca the Gator figure, Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, a Leonida Keys bag, New Era cap, collectible accessories and a double-sided poster with a Leonida map.
It does not include Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar explicitly states that the game is sold separately.
So the current purchase structure is:
- Standard Edition – GTA VI.
- Ultimate Edition – GTA VI + Ultimate Edition Upgrade.
- The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection – merchandise Collector's Box; game sold separately.
You can see the full merchandise list on Rockstar's official Vice City Collection page.
Is GTA 6 Ultimate Edition Worth It?
The value comes down to one question: do you want the additional in-game content enough to pay $20 / €20 more?
If your priority is simply playing GTA VI, Standard already gives you the game and lets you upgrade later. That makes Standard the more flexible purchase.
Ultimate becomes more attractive if you are particularly interested in collecting vehicles, character customization, weapon variants and Rockstar's additional locations and collections, and you want those benefits integrated into your first playthrough.
Because an upgrade path exists, there is currently little practical reason to buy Ultimate purely because of fear of missing out.
Important Things Ultimate Edition Does Not Currently Promise
- No announced early-access period.
- No separate GTA VI Online launch included.
- No physical Ultimate Edition.
- No game disc.
- No announced PC version of the Ultimate Edition.
- The Vintage Vice City Pack is not exclusive to Ultimate.
- The free GTA+ month is not exclusive to Ultimate.
