PoE 3.29 Ducat Crafting: How Item Splitting Works

PoE 3.29 Ducat Crafting: How Item Splitting Works

Ducats are special crafting currencies from Path of Exile 3.29: Curse of the Allflame. They interact with the item-altering system aboard The Sovereign, where Vesper uses Dead Man's Sulphur to show several ghostly versions of a craft. One result can be kept and the rest disappear. Ducats go beyond ordinary currency outcomes by applying their own unusual effects, including modifier separation, attribute requirement changes, and Pantheon-inspired Aspects.

PoE 3.29 launches on July 24, 2026 PDT. Exact costs, outcome counts, drop rates, and the full set of Ducat tooltips will be clearer when the league is live. Any fixed numbers not shown by Grinding Gear Games or the in-game item should be treated as speculation.

How Allflame Crafting Works

Allflame Crafting takes place inside The Sovereign and uses three components: an item, a crafting currency, and Dead Man's Sulphur. Instead of immediately applying one random result, Vesper displays multiple ghostly possibilities created by that crafting action. You inspect the choices, keep one, and lose the alternatives. This is a selection between possible results rather than a way to produce several permanent copies.

  1. Choose the item you want to modify.
  2. Select a compatible crafting currency.
  3. Supply the required Dead Man's Sulphur.
  4. Review the ghostly results created by Vesper.
  5. Choose the single result that best fits the item plan.
  6. Accept that every unchosen possibility will disappear.

The system improves selection, not certainty. Several displayed results can still be weak, and choosing the least harmful option is not the same as receiving the modifier you wanted. It is most valuable when an ordinary currency use has several possible results and one good outcome would justify the Sulphur cost.

The PoE 3.29 patch notes present ghostly outcomes as the league's main item-changing system. Most forms of currency crafting can pass through it, but that does not mean every crafting method or every item can be used. Check the Vesper interface before buying expensive materials for a craft, especially when the item has influence, fractured modifiers, special implicits, or other restrictions.

What Ducats Change on an Item

Ducats are rare seafloor relics that unlock crafting effects unavailable through normal currency. They come from specialised Charts, so obtaining a particular Ducat requires engaging with the Curse of the Allflame league mechanic rather than expecting it from ordinary core drops. The official league announcement describes Kishara's Ducat, The Genteel's Ducat, and Brinehook's Ducat in detail.

DucatItem changeWhen it may be useful
Kishara's DucatCreates multiple ghostly forms while preserving individual modifiersSeparating a valuable modifier from an item that also has unwanted affixes
The Genteel's DucatTransforms one attribute requirement into anotherAdapting an equipment requirement to a build with limited Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence
Brinehook's DucatGrants an Aspect inspired by the gods of WraeclastAdding a special Pantheon-related property when the available Aspect suits the item and build

Do not read more precision into these descriptions than the item itself provides. The announcement does not publish the complete Aspect pool, the exact selection rules for changed requirements, or every restriction on eligible equipment. The live Ducat tooltip should decide whether an item can be used and what the craft will do.

The official 3.29 item filter information lists ten Ducats in the Stackable Currency class. Alongside the three described above, it names Merrick's Ducat, Cyaxan's Ducat, The Changeling's Ducat, Telesia's Ducat, Rotmother's Ducat, Katakohi's Ducat, and Tzamoto's Ducat. Their names are public, but their complete effects should be read from the live items instead of filled in with speculation.

How Kishara's Ducat Splits Item Modifiers

Kishara's Ducat is the Ducat most closely associated with item splitting. It creates several ghostly forms of the target item while preserving individual modifiers from the original. The useful result is the form that carries the modifier you want to continue crafting around.

Consider a rare ring with one exceptional modifier and several affixes that add little value. The ring is a poor finished item, but the exceptional modifier may be worth saving. Kishara's Ducat can separate the item into ghostly choices, giving you a chance to select a cleaner form that retains the desirable modifier. The chosen form becomes the direction of the craft, while the other forms are not extra items you can keep or sell.

  1. Start with an item containing at least one modifier valuable enough to justify the Ducat.
  2. Check whether the base type, item level, influence, and existing special properties suit the intended finished item.
  3. Use Kishara's Ducat through the Allflame Crafting interface.
  4. Inspect every ghostly form rather than selecting only by item name or apparent rarity.
  5. Choose the form that preserves the modifier needed for the next crafting stage.
  6. Plan the remaining affixes before investing more Sulphur or expensive currency.

The exact number of forms should come from the live interface. The official wording says multiple ghostly copies and does not set a universal number in the written announcement. Intangibility can also reduce the number of future outcomes, so a value shown on a fresh item should not be assumed for an item that has already undergone several Allflame crafts.

Kishara splitting is also different from the old Bestiary duplication crafts. In the 3.29 item changes, the Beastcrafting options that split an item into two or three are replaced by Talisman fracture crafts. Kishara's Ducat belongs to the new league system and presents alternative ghostly forms from which one result is selected.

How Intangibility Changes a Crafting Project

Every use of Allflame Crafting makes the item increasingly intangible. As Intangibility grows, Vesper can produce fewer ghostly possibilities in later crafting steps. This prevents one item from receiving unlimited multi-choice attempts and makes the order of operations part of the craft.

Spend the widest selection on the steps where multiple outcomes matter most. A craft with a broad modifier pool benefits more from several choices than a nearly deterministic step. If the easy or predictable actions are performed through Vesper first, the item may have fewer outcomes available when it reaches the expensive stage that actually needed them.

Crafting stageQuestion to askBetter approach
Base selectionWould this base still be worth finishing if the Ducat isolates the desired modifier?Use the correct item level, influence, and base before spending rare materials
Early modifier workDoes this step need several visible outcomes?Use ordinary crafting when the result is predictable and save Allflame choices for wider rolls
Ducat useIs the Ducat solving a real problem on this item?Spend it only when its special effect advances the finished item
Expensive finishing stepHow many ghostly possibilities remain?Check Intangibility before committing high-value currency

Intangibility belongs to the item, so treat it as a limited crafting budget. Before each use, compare the current item with the cost of rebuilding on a fresh base. Continuing is sensible when the preserved modifiers are difficult to replace. Starting over can be cheaper when the item has accumulated Intangibility without gaining anything rare.

Settle the build's required affixes and attributes before altering expensive equipment. If the skill setup or gearing plan is still unresolved, a custom PoE build can establish the item target before a rare Ducat is committed.

Choosing Items Worth a Ducat

A Ducat should solve a specific item problem. Using one simply because it dropped can waste both the currency and the future outcome capacity of the target. Write down the desired finished modifiers, identify the property the Ducat will preserve or change, and decide what crafting steps must follow.

  • Use Kishara's Ducat when one or more existing modifiers are worth separating from weaker affixes.
  • Consider The Genteel's Ducat when an attribute requirement creates a real gearing problem.
  • Reserve Brinehook's Ducat for an item and build that can use the resulting Aspect.
  • Avoid spending a rare Ducat on a replaceable campaign item.
  • Check the base type and item level before preserving an expensive modifier on the wrong foundation.
  • Price the Ducat, base, Sulphur, and follow-up crafts as one project rather than separate purchases.

The correct target is often an imperfect item with one hard-to-replace property, not an item that is already finished. A completed item has more to lose and may gain little from being separated or transformed. An early crafting base with no valuable modifier gives Kishara's Ducat nothing meaningful to preserve.

Common Ducat Crafting Mistakes

Ducat crafts become expensive when players confuse ghostly choices with permanent copies or begin without a finished-item plan. A short check before opening Vesper's interface prevents most avoidable losses.

  • Do not expect to keep every ghostly outcome.
  • Do not confuse Kishara's Ducat with the removed Bestiary split crafts.
  • Do not assume every Ducat works on every item class.
  • Do not spend early Allflame choices on steps that need little or no outcome selection.
  • Do not ignore Intangibility before an expensive currency step.
  • Do not isolate a strong modifier on the wrong base type or item level.
  • Do not invent effects for Ducats whose full tooltips have not been published.
  • Do not value a Pantheon Aspect before checking whether the build can use it.

Ducats and Vesper's crafting system are part of the Curse of the Allflame challenge league rather than the current core game. An existing Standard character therefore cannot use the league-specific crafting loop.

Before accepting any result, read the target item again, inspect every ghostly form, check how much Intangibility the item has accumulated, and make sure the chosen outcome still supports the next crafting step. The choice cannot be judged only by the highest visible modifier if the rest of the item becomes impossible to finish.

Final Thoughts

Ducat crafting rewards preparation more than impulsive gambling. Kishara's Ducat is valuable when it rescues a rare modifier from an otherwise poor item, while the other Ducats should be matched to a clear requirement or Aspect goal. Plan the final item backwards, save Vesper's wider selections for the riskiest steps, and stop investing when Intangibility makes a fresh base the cheaper route.
