The best general Pantheon setup in Path of Exile is Soul of Lunaris with a situational Minor God for mapping, while Soul of Solaris is usually the stronger Major God for isolated bosses. Soul of the Brine King is the practical early choice when stun, freeze, or chill is not solved by gear, and Soul of Arakaali is the specialist option for dangerous damage over time. Your Minor God should change with the threat: Abberath for Burning Ground, Shakari for poison and chaos damage, Ralakesh for bleed, Garukhan for shock, or Ryslatha for long fights that rely on a Life Flask.
Pre-release note: This guide was checked against the announced Path of Exile 3.29 patch notes. No Pantheon or Divine Vessel changes are listed there, but 3.29 is not live at the time of this verification. Always confirm the displayed power and required Atlas boss in the in-game Pantheon panel.
Best PoE Pantheon Gods at a Glance
There is no single pair that is best for every build and encounter. Use the following choices as defaults, then swap when a map modifier, boss, or missing defensive layer creates a specific problem.
| Situation | Major God | Minor God | Why It Works |
|---|---|---|---|
| General mapping | Soul of Lunaris | Soul of Abberath or Garukhan | Lunaris scales with nearby enemies and helps against projectiles, while the Minor God covers the map hazard that threatens the build. |
| Single-target bossing | Soul of Solaris | Soul of Ryslatha | Solaris is strongest when only one enemy is nearby, and Ryslatha supports Life Flask recovery during long phases. |
| Damage over time | Soul of Arakaali | Soul of Shakari or Ralakesh | Arakaali reduces all damage over time, while the Minor God can focus on poison, chaos damage, or bleeding. |
| Early maps without ailment immunity | Soul of the Brine King | Soul of Garukhan | This pair reduces the danger of stun chains, freeze, chill, and shock before equipment covers those weaknesses. |
| Stationary playstyle | Soul of Solaris | Soul of Tukohama | Tukohama rewards remaining still, while Solaris adds protection against a lone boss and area hits. |
How the Pantheon System Works
The Pantheon is a defensive and utility system unlocked during Acts 6 through 10. A character can activate one Major God and one Minor God at the same time. Changing either power is free, but the character must be in a town or hideout; the selection cannot be changed while standing inside a map. The announced Path of Exile 3.29 patch notes do not list a change to these rules.
- Four Major Gods provide broad defensive packages.
- Eight Minor Gods answer narrower threats such as poison, bleed, shock, Burning Ground, or reflected damage.
- Every Major God has three upgrade effects.
- Every Minor God has one upgrade effect.
- Unlocked upgrades apply across characters in the same league, although a character must complete An End to Hunger before those shared effects become active.
- The Pantheon system is not available in Ruthless mode.
The Brine King is unlocked in Act 6, Arakaali in Act 7, and Solaris and Lunaris in Act 8. The Minor Gods are Tukohama, Abberath, and Ryslatha in Act 6; Gruthkul and Ralakesh in Act 7; Yugul in Act 8; and Garukhan and Shakari in Act 9.
Pantheon bonuses should fill gaps rather than duplicate complete immunities. If gear already prevents freeze and stun, Soul of the Brine King loses much of its value. If the build already ignores Burning Ground, Abberath can be replaced with a more useful Minor God.

How to Upgrade Pantheon Powers with Divine Vessels

Pantheon upgrades are earned by capturing designated map bosses with Divine Vessels. The required boss and map can rotate when the Atlas changes, so the Pantheon panel is more reliable than an old static map list.
- Open the Pantheon panel. The default PC key is Y.
- Select the God you want to improve and read the required boss name.
- Use the Atlas search to identify the map containing that boss.
- Place the correct map and one Divine Vessel in your personal Map Device.
- Enter the map and remain present when the required boss dies.
- Return to the Map Device and collect the Captured Soul.
- Right-click the Captured Soul to apply it, or take it to Sin in an Act 2 area.
A Divine Vessel strengthens the map boss with increased damage, attack and cast speed, life, and area of effect, so do not add one to a boss your build can barely defeat. Since the official 3.24 update, a captured upgrade is shared by all characters in that league. Repeating the same capture can toggle that individual upgrade off or on for the current character.
All Major Pantheon Gods and Their Upgrades
Major Gods define the main defensive purpose of the Pantheon setup. Lunaris favors enemy-dense maps, Solaris favors a lone target, Arakaali counters damage over time, and the Brine King covers control effects that can otherwise prevent a character from reacting.
Soul of Lunaris
Base power: Gain 1% additional Physical Damage Reduction for each nearby enemy, up to 8%, and 1% increased Movement Speed for each nearby enemy, up to 8%.
Upgrades:
- 10% chance to avoid Projectiles.
- 6% reduced Elemental Damage taken if you have been Hit Recently.
- Avoid Projectiles that have Chained.
Best use: Dense mapping, fast clearing, projectile-heavy content, and characters that regularly fight inside packs. The base bonuses fall away against an isolated boss, which is the main reason to change to Solaris before dedicated boss encounters.
Soul of Arakaali
Base power: Take 10% reduced Damage from Damage Over Time.
Upgrades:
- 20% increased Recovery rate of Life and Energy Shield if you have stopped taking Damage Over Time Recently.
- Debuffs on you expire 20% faster.
- +40% Chaos Resistance against Damage Over Time.
Best use: Encounters with persistent ground effects, strong degeneration, poison, bleeding, or chaos damage over time. The final upgrade is not general Chaos Resistance; it applies only against damage over time. Arakaali is powerful when degeneration is the cause of deaths, but it does not replace capped resistances or ailment removal.
Soul of Solaris
Base power: Gain 6% additional Physical Damage Reduction while only one nearby enemy is present, and have a 20% chance to take 50% less Area Damage from Hits.
Upgrades:
- 8% reduced Elemental Damage taken if you have not been Hit Recently.
- Take no Extra Damage from Critical Strikes if you have taken a Critical Strike Recently.
- 50% chance to avoid Ailments from Critical Strikes.
Best use: Bosses, isolated rares, large area hits, and encounters where critical strikes are a concern. The one-nearby-enemy condition can fail when a boss summons adds, so Lunaris may remain competitive in encounters that constantly fill the arena.
Soul of the Brine King
Base power: You cannot be Stunned if you have been Stunned or blocked a Stunning Hit in the past 2 seconds.
Upgrades:
- 30% increased Stun and Block Recovery.
- 100% chance to Avoid being Frozen.
- 50% reduced Effect of Chill on you.
Best use: League-start characters, low-life-pool builds vulnerable to repeated stuns, and characters that have not yet solved freeze and chill through gear, flasks, passives, or Ascendancy effects. Replace the Brine King once the same protections are already guaranteed elsewhere.
All Minor Pantheon Gods and Their Upgrades
Minor Gods are specialized tools. Their value depends less on a broad build archetype and more on the exact mechanic causing danger, so checking map modifiers and boss damage types before entry gives better results than leaving one Minor God selected forever.
Soul of Yugul
Base power: 50% of Hit Damage from you and your Minions cannot be Reflected, and you have a 50% chance to Reflect Hexes.
Upgrade: 30% reduced Effect of Curses on you.
Best use: Reflect and curse pressure. Yugul alone is not complete reflected-damage immunity, because only half of Hit Damage is protected by the base power. Combine it with another source if the build intends to run a reflect modifier that would otherwise be lethal.
Soul of Ralakesh
Base power: Take 25% reduced Physical Damage Over Time while moving, and moving while Bleeding does not cause extra damage.
Upgrade: Corrupted Blood cannot be inflicted on you if you already have at least 5 Corrupted Blood Debuffs.
Best use: Mobile characters facing bleed and Corrupted Blood. The upgrade limits additional stacks after the threshold; it does not prevent the first stacks. A corrupted jewel implicit or another full immunity remains safer for consistently dangerous Corrupted Blood encounters.
Soul of Shakari
Base power: Poisons on you have 50% less Duration, and you cannot be Poisoned while at least 3 Poisons are already on you.
Upgrade: Take 5% reduced Chaos Damage and 25% reduced Chaos Damage Over Time while on Caustic Ground.
Best use: Poison-heavy encounters, chaos damage, and Caustic Ground. It reduces the danger of repeated poison application but is not immediate poison immunity, because up to three poisons can still be applied before the prevention condition operates.
Soul of Abberath
Base power: Ignites on you have 60% less Duration.
Upgrade: You are Unaffected by Burning Ground and gain 10% increased Movement Speed while on Burning Ground.
Best use: Maps with Burning Ground and encounters with repeated ignite application. Unaffected means the Burning Ground still exists but does not affect the character, which also allows the movement bonus to function while standing on it.
Soul of Tukohama
Base power: Gain 3% additional Physical Damage Reduction per second while stationary, up to 9%.
Upgrade: Regenerate 2% of Life per second while stationary.
Best use: Channeling, stationary casting, close-range bossing, and builds that deliberately hold position. The defensive value ramps over time and is lost when movement breaks the stationary condition, making Tukohama a poor default for constant movement.
Soul of Ryslatha
Base power: Life Flasks gain 3 Charges every 3 seconds if you have not used a Life Flask Recently, and Life Flasks used on Low Life provide 60% increased Life Recovery.
Upgrade: Enemies you have Hit Recently have 50% reduced Life Regeneration Rate.
Best use: Campaign progression, long bosses without flask-refill monsters, builds that depend on an emergency Life Flask, and enemies with noticeable life regeneration. The charge recovery stops being useful for characters that no longer carry a Life Flask.
Soul of Garukhan
Base power: Shock has 60% reduced Effect on you.
Upgrade: You cannot be Blinded or Maimed.
Best use: Lightning and shock-heavy content or characters whose accuracy, movement, and positioning suffer from Blind and Maim. Reduced shock effect is not the same as shock immunity, so other sources may still be needed to reach complete protection. Garukhan and several other ailment-focused powers received their current direction in the official 3.16 patch notes.
Soul of Gruthkul
Base power: Gain 1% additional Physical Damage Reduction for each Hit taken Recently, up to 5%.
Upgrade: Enemies that have Hit you with an Attack Recently have 8% reduced Attack Speed.
Best use: Melee characters and encounters with many repeated attack hits. Gruthkul is less effective against isolated spell hits and damage over time because its conditions depend on being hit and, for the upgrade, being hit by an attack.
Best Major God for Mapping and Bossing

The best Major God is determined by enemy count and damage pattern. Lunaris and Solaris form the main mapping-versus-bossing split, while Arakaali and the Brine King become better when a specific weakness matters more than general mitigation.
| Content or Weakness | Recommended Major God | Reason to Choose It |
|---|---|---|
| Dense maps, Breach, Legion, or pack clearing | Soul of Lunaris | Nearby enemies scale physical reduction and movement speed, while upgrades help against projectiles and recent elemental hits. |
| Boss with few or no adds | Soul of Solaris | The isolated-enemy condition, area-hit protection, and critical-strike defenses match single-target combat. |
| Persistent degeneration or chaos damage over time | Soul of Arakaali | It directly reduces damage over time and improves recovery after the degeneration stops. |
| Stun locks, freeze, or strong chill | Soul of the Brine King | It prevents repeated stuns and can supply freeze avoidance plus reduced chill effect when upgraded. |
Best Minor God for Different Situations
Choose the Minor God after reading the map modifiers and considering the encounter. The correct answer is usually the power that addresses an unsolved threat, not the power most commonly listed in a generic build guide.
| Threat or Playstyle | Recommended Minor God | Important Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Burning Ground or repeated ignite | Soul of Abberath | Full protection from Burning Ground requires the upgrade. |
| Poison, chaos damage, or Caustic Ground | Soul of Shakari | The base power does not prevent the first poison stacks. |
| Bleed while moving or Corrupted Blood | Soul of Ralakesh | The upgrade is not complete Corrupted Blood immunity. |
| Shock, Blind, or Maim | Soul of Garukhan | Shock is reduced rather than fully prevented. |
| Reflect and curses | Soul of Yugul | The base reflected-hit protection covers 50%, not 100%. |
| Repeated physical attack hits | Soul of Gruthkul | It does little against damage over time and its upgrade does not slow spells. |
| Standing still to deal damage | Soul of Tukohama | The mitigation needs time to ramp and movement ends the benefit. |
| Long boss fight with a Life Flask | Soul of Ryslatha | It has limited value if the build does not use a Life Flask. |
Recommended Pantheon Combinations by Build Type
Build archetype provides a useful starting point, but equipment and content still take priority. A build with complete ailment immunity should not spend both Pantheon slots solving ailments it already ignores. If several defensive gaps make the correct pair unclear, a custom PoE build setup can help align gear, passives, flasks, and Pantheon choices.
| Build or Goal | Major God | Minor God | Swap Option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fast mapper | Lunaris | Abberath | Use Garukhan when shock is the larger danger. |
| Melee boss killer | Solaris | Gruthkul | Use Ryslatha if flask sustain is the problem. |
| Channeling or stationary caster | Solaris | Tukohama | Use Abberath when arena ground effects force frequent repositioning. |
| Energy Shield build facing degeneration | Arakaali | Shakari | Use Ralakesh for physical damage over time and bleed. |
| Early league starter | Brine King | Garukhan | Move to Lunaris after stun, freeze, chill, and shock are solved. |
| Minion build running reflect content | Lunaris or Solaris | Yugul | Add another reflect solution because Yugul alone does not provide full protection. |
When You Should Swap Pantheon Powers
Swapping takes only a visit to town or the hideout, so it should be part of map and boss preparation. A small change can solve a map hazard without requiring new gear or passive-tree changes.
- Select Abberath before running several Burning Ground maps.
- Select Shakari when poison or Caustic Ground is expected.
- Select Garukhan when a strong shock would amplify incoming damage.
- Select Ralakesh when bleeding during movement is the main risk.
- Select Yugul only when reflected Hit Damage or curses are relevant, and confirm that the build has enough additional reflect protection.
- Switch Lunaris to Solaris before an isolated boss, then switch back for dense mapping.
- Return to the Brine King if equipment changes remove freeze or stun protection.
Common Pantheon Mistakes
Most Pantheon errors come from treating conditional mitigation as complete immunity or from copying a selection without checking what the rest of the build already provides.
- Leaving upgrades incomplete: Base powers can be useful, but important effects such as freeze avoidance and being unaffected by Burning Ground require captured souls.
- Following an outdated map list: The required Atlas boss can change. Read the current Pantheon panel before spending a Divine Vessel.
- Assuming Yugul grants reflect immunity: Its base power protects only 50% of reflected Hit Damage from you and your Minions.
- Assuming Ralakesh grants Corrupted Blood immunity: The upgrade blocks new applications only after at least five debuffs are already present.
- Overvaluing duplicate defenses: Brine King freeze avoidance is wasted when another mechanic already guarantees freeze immunity.
- Using Solaris in every boss arena: Its physical reduction requires only one nearby enemy, so add-heavy encounters may reduce its value.
- Using Tukohama on a constantly moving build: The power cannot ramp if the character never remains stationary.
Final Pantheon Recommendation
Start mapping with Soul of Lunaris and the Minor God that covers your weakest unsolved hazard. Use Soul of Solaris for isolated bosses, Soul of Arakaali for damage-over-time encounters, and Soul of the Brine King until stun, freeze, and chill are handled elsewhere. Upgrade every useful God with Divine Vessels, check the in-game target before opening the map, and treat Pantheon selection as a flexible defensive tool rather than a permanent part of the build.
