Valorant Duelists
Duelists are the most aggressive VALORANT role. Their abilities help them take the first fight, create space or escape after committing to an engagement.
There are currently nine Duelists.
Hush
Hush is the newest VALORANT Agent and joined the roster in Patch 13.09. Her kit revolves around telekinesis and utility that can be redirected while moving through the air.
Abilities: Flow, Flashbulb, Displacement, Suspension and Telekinesis.
Her unusual strength is controlled disruption: she can move enemies, guide utility around positions and interact with certain objects from increased range.
See our complete Hush guide for detailed combos, counterplay and practical usage.
Iso
Iso specializes in direct gunfights and temporary protection. Double Tap allows him to create a shield after meeting its conditions, while Kill Contract isolates Iso and an enemy for a one-versus-one fight.
Abilities: Contingency, Undercut, Double Tap, Kill Contract.
Jett
Jett uses fast mobility to enter sites, take aggressive angles and escape positions that would be dangerous for less mobile Agents.
Abilities: Cloudburst, Updraft, Tailwind, Blade Storm; passive: Drift.
Neon
Neon is built around movement speed and rapid map traversal. She is strongest when a player understands timing and can use her speed to break defensive setups.
Abilities: Fast Lane, Relay Bolt, High Gear, Overdrive.
Phoenix
Phoenix is one of the most self-sufficient Duelists. He can flash for himself, create a wall, heal through his own fire and use Run It Back to take a temporary high-risk fight.
Abilities: Blaze, Curveball, Hot Hands, Run It Back.
Raze
Raze combines explosive damage with mobility. She is particularly strong at clearing tight positions and forcing defenders away from common angles.
Abilities: Boom Bot, Blast Pack, Paint Shells, Showstopper.
Reyna
Reyna becomes stronger after winning gunfights. Her kit lets her heal or temporarily escape after collecting Soul Orbs from enemies she helped eliminate.
Abilities: Leer, Devour, Dismiss, Empress.
Waylay
Waylay is a mobility-focused Duelist who uses light-based abilities to enter fights, slow enemies and return to a prepared position.
Abilities: Saturate, Lightspeed, Refract, Convergent Paths.
Yoru
Yoru specializes in deception. Teleports, flashes and Fakeout can create false information and force defenders to question where the real attack is coming from.
Abilities: Fakeout, Blindside, Gatecrash, Dimensional Drift.
Valorant Controllers
Controllers manipulate vision and dangerous areas. Smokes and walls allow teams to isolate angles rather than fighting every defender at once.
There are currently seven Controllers.
Astra
Astra places Stars across the battlefield and transforms them into smokes, concusses or gravity zones. Her global setup potential rewards strong map awareness.
Abilities: Gravity Well, Nova Pulse, Nebula, Cosmic Divide; passive: Astral Form.
Brimstone
Brimstone is a straightforward Controller with rapid smoke deployment, area damage and team combat buffs.
Abilities: Stim Beacon, Incendiary, Sky Smoke, Orbital Strike.
Clove
Clove combines Controller utility with aggressive combat tools. Most importantly, Ruse can still deploy smokes after Clove dies.
Abilities: Pick-me-up, Meddle, Ruse, Not Dead Yet.
Harbor
Harbor controls sightlines with water-based walls and shields. His kit is useful for moving a team through exposed territory.
Abilities: Cascade, Cove, High Tide, Reckoning.
Miks
Miks is a Croatian Controller introduced in 2026. His sound-based kit can heal or concuss, buff teammates and deploy smokes through Waveform.
Abilities: M-pulse, Harmonize, Waveform, Bassquake.
Omen
Omen combines flexible smokes with teleportation and a powerful line-based blind.
Abilities: Shrouded Step, Paranoia, Dark Cover, From the Shadows.
Viper
Viper uses toxic fuel to maintain large vision-blocking abilities and punish players who remain inside controlled areas.
Abilities: Snake Bite, Poison Cloud, Toxic Screen, Viper's Pit.

Fade
Fade tracks enemies and uses nightmare-themed utility to reveal, trap and pressure them. Abilities: Prowler, Seize, Haunt, Nightfall.

Tejo
Tejo uses guided explosives and a scouting drone to force defenders out of prepared positions. Abilities: Stealth Drone, Special Delivery, Guided Salvo, Armageddon.

There are currently seven Sentinels.

Veto
Veto is built around denying enemy utility. Interceptor can destroy eligible hostile abilities, while Evolution temporarily empowers Veto and provides immunity to debuffs. Abilities: Crosscut, Chokehold, Interceptor, Evolution.

Which Valorant Agents Are Free for New Players?
New accounts begin with five Agents immediately available:
- Brimstone;
- Jett;
- Phoenix;
- Sage;
- Sova.
Basic Training can also provide Agent Unlock Tokens, allowing new players to permanently unlock additional Agents without spending Kingdom Credits or VALORANT Points.
How to Unlock Valorant Agents
There are several current unlock methods depending on whether the Agent is newly released.
| Method | When available | Permanent? |
|---|---|---|
| Kingdom Credits | After a new Agent's Recruitment Event | Yes |
| VALORANT Points | Available through the Agent Store | Yes |
| Agent Unlock Token | When available; not usable on a newly released Agent during Recruitment | Yes |
| Agent Recruitment Event | First 28 days after a new Agent launches | Yes |
| Xbox Game Pass | While an eligible linked subscription remains active | No, unless you separately unlock the Agent |
How Much Does an Agent Cost?
After the launch Recruitment Event ends, a standard locked Agent can currently be unlocked for:
- 8,000 Kingdom Credits;
- 1,000 VALORANT Points;
- or an available Agent Unlock Token.
Kingdom Credits are earned through play and cannot be stockpiled indefinitely: Riot caps your balance at 10,000 KC.
That means it is usually inefficient to remain at the cap for long periods, because additional Kingdom Credits cannot be accumulated until some are spent.
How Does a New Agent Recruitment Event Work?
New Agents use a different system during their first 28 days.
During this period:
- the Recruitment Event activates automatically;
- XP earned while playing contributes toward the recruitment target;
- reaching 200,000 XP unlocks the Agent for free;
- the Agent can still be unlocked immediately with VP;
- active Xbox Game Pass provides access;
- Kingdom Credits and normal Agent Unlock Tokens cannot be used for that Agent until the event ends.
Hush is the current example because her Recruitment Event started with Patch 13.09.
Does Xbox Game Pass Unlock Every Valorant Agent?
Yes, an eligible Riot Account linked to an active Xbox Game Pass subscription receives access to all current Agents and new Agents when they launch.
However, this is subscription access rather than permanent ownership. If the Game Pass benefit ends, Agents you never permanently unlocked through VALORANT's own progression system may become locked again.
What Valorant Role Should a Beginner Play?
There is no single best role for every beginner.
| If you prefer... | Try... | Good starting Agents |
|---|---|---|
| Taking fights and entering sites | Duelist | Phoenix, Jett |
| Controlling the map and helping every execute | Controller | Brimstone, Clove |
| Finding enemies and setting up teammates | Initiator | Sova, Gekko |
| Holding sites and watching flanks | Sentinel | Sage, Killjoy |
Do not choose an Agent solely because that Agent is currently high on a tier list. A simpler Agent you understand well is usually more valuable than a theoretically stronger Agent whose utility you cannot use consistently.
For current meta recommendations, see our VALORANT Agent Tier List.
How Many Agents Should You Learn?
For Ranked, most players do not need to master all 30 Agents.
A practical pool is:
- one main Agent;
- one secondary Agent;
- one emergency backup if both preferred choices are unavailable.
Knowing what every Agent can do is important because it helps you understand enemy utility. Actually mastering every Agent is unnecessary.
Who Is the Newest Valorant Agent?
Hush is currently the newest VALORANT Agent. Riot released her with Patch 13.09 on October 27, 2026.
She is the ninth Duelist and the 30th playable Agent overall. Her VALORANT Protocol number is 31 because Agent 8 remains absent from the playable roster.

VALORANT currently has 30 playable Agents across four roles. You do not need to master all of them, but understanding each Agent's core abilities will make enemy utility easier to predict and team compositions easier to read.
For Ranked, choose a small pool that matches your playstyle and learn those Agents deeply. Use this page as the evergreen roster reference: when Riot releases another Agent, the correct SEO approach is to update this URL rather than create a new generic “all Agents” page.
