WoW Forever Beta Guide: Access, Download and What to Test

If you have access, open Battle.net, switch to the Classic section, pick World of Warcraft: Forever in the version dropdown above the Play button and hit Install. The beta is its own download and does not touch your live WoW. If the Install button is missing or greyed out, restart the launcher first, then use the command below.

Guaranteed access comes with the Skyborne Epic Pack ($59.99) or the Warcraft Forever Collection ($79.99). The $29.99 Heroic Pack does not include the beta. The free opt-in on the official WoW site puts you in a lottery pool, nothing more.

WoW Forever Beta Download and Battle.net Installation

There is no separate installer and no preload. The build lives inside the Battle.net desktop app on the account that holds beta access.

1. Open the Battle.net desktop app on the account with beta access. Log out and back in if you bought your pack today.
2. Go to the Classic section using the icons across the top of the launcher.
3. Open the version dropdown in the lower left, above the Play button. It is labelled Game Version & Account.
4. Select World of Warcraft: Forever. With beta access, the line under the Install button reads September 17, 2026. Without access, the entry is there but you cannot install it.
5. Click Install and pick a drive. It installs alongside Retail and Classic Era rather than replacing them.
6. Press Play and expect a queue. Waits ran from several minutes to over an hour on day one.

Size reports from testers cluster around 14 GB, which matches a fresh Classic-style client rather than a Retail-sized download. Blizzard has not published an official figure, so leave more room than that. The store page asks for an SSD with 128 GB free for Forever overall, Windows 10 64-bit or macOS 12 as a minimum, and 8 GB of RAM.

WoW Forever Beta Not Showing Up in Battle.net

The most common day-one problem was not a missing entitlement. The launcher showed the Forever entry, but the Install button did nothing or was greyed out, because Battle.net was overwhelmed. Work through these in order.

1. Fully restart Battle.net. Quit from the system tray, not just the window, and reopen. Blizzard pushed a launcher update during day one that fixed the dead Install button for most people.
2. If installation still fails, use Blizzard’s official troubleshooting linked below.
3. Launch the client directly if the download finished but Play is stuck. The executable sits at: C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\WowB.exe You can also click the gear next to the Play button and choose Show in Explorer.
4. Check which pack you own. Skyborne Heroic has no beta entitlement. Epic and the Warcraft Forever Collection do. Never buy a second pack to troubleshoot.
5. Check the account. The purchase or opt-in has to sit on the same Battle.net account you are logged into, which catches people who own two.
6. Collector's Edition codes. The code arrives by email, needs a WoW account, works once per account, and is rejected on an account that already has beta access.
7. Contact Blizzard Support only if a guaranteed entitlement is still missing after all of that. Support cannot add opt-in players to the beta and cannot fix client issues.

How to Get WoW Forever Beta Access

Two routes guarantee access and one does not. This is where most of the confusion sits, because the cheapest pack is the one without the beta.

If you took the free route, there is nothing to install until you are picked. You will know either from an email or from the Forever entry becoming installable in the launcher. No amount of re-opting improves your odds.

One regional oddity worth knowing: McDonald's Australia has been handing out beta codes through its rewards programme. Whether those codes work outside the region is not confirmed.

Beta Dates, Level Caps and the One-Day Confusion

You will see two different end dates quoted, and both are correct. Blizzard's purchase notice gives the window in Pacific Time, while the same notice in Central European regions is written a calendar day later.

That gives you roughly five weeks of testing. The initial phase was capped at level 20. Since October 1 the cap is 30 and stays there, so nothing between 31 and 60 is testable and there is no raid testing at all. Our WoW Forever roadmap covers what lands after launch.

What You Can Actually Play in the Beta

Every race and class is available, including Skyborne if you bought a pack that unlocks them. What you are testing is the early game, not a preview of the endgame.

What You Should Test First

Beta progress is wiped before launch, so time spent on gear or gold is time wasted. Spend it on decisions you will otherwise make blind on November 4.

1. Play the class you plan to main. Pacing, resource flow and whether the reworked abilities actually feel better to you. That is the one thing no guide can answer for you.
2. Learn the early route. Quest density, travel time, dangerous bottlenecks and where a second route beats a crowded one on launch day.
3. Settle race and faction. Skyborne pick a side during levelling, and the new combinations change what your starting zone looks like. See the race and class combinations guide and the racial abilities guide.
4. Try Zephras Isle if you own Skyborne access, since 1-12 there replaces the old starting zones. Our Zephras Isle guide covers the route.
5. Set up your interface. Keybinds, camera, graphics preset and the SD or HD toggle are knowledge you can recreate on a fresh character.
6. Retest with the October 1 level-30 build. The 16-point talent milestone needs level 25, so the class you judge at level 20 is not the class you get at 30.

What the Beta Does Not Tell You About Launch

• Balance is not final. Damage, healing, talents and racials all move between now and November 4.
• The economy is not real. Vendor prices, profession costs and drop rates can change, and there is no auction economy to model.
• A missing system is not a cut system. Plenty of announced content simply is not enabled in a level-capped test.
• Characters are wiped. Beta progress does not carry into launch. Blizzard and the developer interviews both say so.
• If installation still fails, use Blizzard’s official troubleshooting linked below.
• September 15, 2026, v1.0: pre-beta version covering access routes and preparation before Blizzard enabled the client.
• Next update: when the cap rises to level 30 in early October, and again when Blizzard announces the closing time.
