Best PoE 3.29 Hexblast Mines Shadow Trickster Build

Best PoE 3.29 Hexblast Mines Shadow Trickster Build

This PoE 3.29 Hexblast Mines Trickster is a critical-strike chaos spell build designed primarily for Sanctum, bossing, invitations, and controlled Atlas progression. Hexblast is converted into a mine skill through High-Impact Mine Support, allowing the character to place several mines before an encounter and detonate them together for concentrated burst damage.

The build depends on applying a Hex before Hexblast deals damage. A hexed target enables Hexblast's enhanced area hit, while the spell calculates its chaos damage against the target's lowest resistance. Profane Proxy and a Curse on Hit ring can create a two-Hex system, but that setup requires additional maximum curse capacity from Whispers of Doom or another valid source.

Patch status: This guide was checked against the Path of Exile 3.29 patch notes on July 24, 2026. Hexblast itself received a shorter cooldown, faster cast time, and lower Mana cost, but High-Impact Mine, Blastchain Mine, and Charged Mines were weakened. The build remains viable, although it now has lower support efficiency and greater resource pressure than older versions.

PoE 3.29 Hexblast Mines Trickster Build Overview

The following table summarizes the build's main mechanics, intended content, equipment direction, and progression requirements.

CategoryBuild Plan
ClassShadow
AscendancyTrickster
Main SkillHexblast supported by High-Impact Mine
Damage TypeCritical chaos spell hits calculated against the target's lowest resistance
Required MechanicReliable Hex application before every important detonation sequence
Preferred WeaponHigh-critical-strike wand with spell, gem-level, and Critical Strike modifiers
League StartStormblast Mine into Pyroclast Mine before the curse-enabled Hexblast transition
Primary ContentSanctum, bosses, invitations, Essence, Expedition, and general mapping
Defensive DirectionLife and Energy Shield hybrid with Evasion and Spell Suppression
Play StyleThrow mines, maintain curses, detonate, and reposition

This is not a traditional self-cast Hexblast character. Cast Speed does not control how quickly mines are placed; Mine Throwing Speed performs that role. The build also needs enough unreserved Mana to place several mines because active mines reserve their cost until they detonate.

Hexblast Mines Strengths and Weaknesses

Hexblast Mines offers excellent preloaded boss damage and safe ranged targeting, but its performance falls sharply when the curse system, mine detonation, or available Mana is configured incorrectly.

Strengths

  • Mines can be placed before a boss becomes vulnerable.
  • Hexblast automatically targets an enemy when a mine detonates within range.
  • Area explosions provide effective pack clear without projectile aiming.
  • Chaos hits can Ignite, Freeze, and Shock through Hexblast's skill mechanic.
  • Trickster combines offensive charges with strong mapping recovery.
  • The build is particularly effective in Sanctum, where avoiding direct contact is valuable.
  • Damage can scale from an affordable hybrid setup into specialised critical-strike equipment.

Weaknesses

  • High-Impact Mine and Charged Mines are weaker and more expensive to sustain in 3.29.
  • Hexblast performs poorly when an enemy is not Hexed.
  • The campaign requires a different mine skill before the Hexblast transition.
  • Active mines reserve Mana and can prevent further throws when sustain is incomplete.
  • Two simultaneous Hexes require additional maximum curse capacity.
  • Fast mapping depends on comfortable automatic or movement-based detonation.
  • Profane Proxy, Sandstorm Visage, and specialised rare items compete with defensive slots.

Players choosing between miners and more conventional starters can compare the current PoE 3.29 build options before investing in the Hexblast transition.

How Hexblast, Curses, and Mines Work Together

Hexblast deals chaos spell damage to its selected target. When that target is affected by a Hex, the hit gains its enhanced behaviour and creates an area explosion around the enemy. Hexblast then removes a Hex, so the character needs a system that reapplies curses quickly enough for the following mine.

Profane Proxy replaces the aura of one Skitterbot with the Hex socketed in the ring. Elemental Weakness or Flammability can therefore remain around enemies approached by that Skitterbot. A second ring with Flammability on Hit or another suitable Hex reapplies a curse when a mine hits, allowing the following mine to receive the hexed-target benefit.

Using the Profane Proxy Hex and a different Curse on Hit Hex at the same time requires at least two maximum curses. Whispers of Doom is the standard passive-tree solution. Without additional curse capacity, the newly applied Hex replaces the existing one, preventing the intended double-curse resistance reduction.

Hexblast deals chaos damage but calculates its hit using the enemy's lowest resistance. Applying Elemental Weakness and Flammability can make Fire Resistance lower than Chaos Resistance, allowing the chaos hit to use that reduced Fire Resistance value. This does not convert Hexblast into Fire Damage; Chaos Damage, Spell Damage, Mine Damage, and Critical Strike modifiers remain the relevant scaling categories.

High-Impact Mine Support converts Hexblast into a mine skill and gives active mines an offensive aura. Minefield throws several mines together, while Charged Mines uses Power and Frenzy Charges to improve critical performance and Mine Throwing Speed. Detonation can be handled manually, through Automation with Detonate Mines, or with a suitable Mine Mastery according to the final passive tree.

PoE 3.29 Hexblast and Mine Support Changes

Patch 3.29 reduces Hexblast's cooldown from two seconds to one second, shortens its cast time from one second to 0.85 seconds, and lowers its base Mana cost by 15%. The lower base cost is useful, but Mine Throwing Speed replaces normal Cast Speed when Hexblast is supported as a mine, so the cast-time improvement does not directly accelerate mine placement.

High-Impact Mine now causes supported skills to deal 60% to 55% less damage at gem levels 1 to 20, compared with 56% to 50% previously. Its Cost and Reservation Multiplier rises from 50% to 65%. Blastchain Mine receives a similar penalty, changing from 58% to 53% less damage to 60% to 55% less damage with the same increase to a 65% multiplier.

Charged Mines now supplies 8% increased Mine Throwing Speed per Frenzy Charge instead of 10% and 20% increased Critical Strike Chance per Power Charge instead of 25%. Its Cost and Reservation Multiplier increases from 120% to 140%. These changes mean an old six-link cannot be copied without recalculating damage, available Mana, and throw speed.

The complete numerical changes are listed in the official Path of Exile 3.29 patch notes. The new socket system still benefits progression because any gem can enter any socket, while matching a gem with a coloured socket grants additional Quality.

The main six-link still combines Hexblast with mine conversion, Minefield, charge scaling, chaos damage, and critical consistency. The increased 3.29 cost multipliers make Mana testing mandatory whenever another support is changed.

SetupRecommended GemsPurpose
Main Six-LinkHexblast – High-Impact Mine – Minefield – Charged Mines – Void Manipulation – Increased Critical StrikesPrimary clearing and single-target mine setup
Alternative Damage LinkIncreased Critical Damage or EmpowerReplaces Increased Critical Strikes only after confirming Critical Strike Chance and Mana cost
Wither SetupWither – Spell Totem – Multiple Totems – Faster CastingBuilds Withered stacks on durable enemies
DetonationDetonate Mines – AutomationAutomates routine mine detonation during mapping
Boss UtilityBear Trap – Increased DurationImproves mine and trap damage dealt to an affected enemy
MovementShield Charge – Faster Attacks and FrostblinkProvides rapid ground movement and terrain crossing
Guard SkillSteelskin or Immortal CallProvides temporary mitigation when correctly levelled and activated

Summon Skitterbots is mandatory when Profane Proxy supplies the primary curse aura. Grace is the main defensive reservation skill, while Discipline can support a higher-Energy-Shield version. Do not activate every aura until a complete Minefield throw, active-mine reservation, and repeated detonation have been tested.

Wither increases chaos damage taken and can stack repeatedly, making the totem setup valuable against Pinnacle Bosses. The 3.29 Spell Totem damage penalty does not prevent this utility setup from applying Withered because its purpose is debuff application rather than totem hit damage.

Trickster Ascendancy, Passive Tree, Bandits, and Pantheon

The recommended Trickster route first establishes damage and recovery, then adds Power and Frenzy Charge scaling before completing the Evasion, Energy Shield, and Spell Suppression package.

  1. Polymath: Provides more damage for different Mastery types allocated and recovers Life, Mana, and Energy Shield after kills.
  2. Swift Killer: Supports Power and Frenzy Charges, improving critical scaling and the bonuses supplied by Charged Mines.
  3. Escape Artist: Connects the defensive value of the equipped helmet and body armour through Evasion and Energy Shield.
  4. Spellbreaker: Strengthens Spell Suppression and Energy Shield recovery against spell-heavy content.

Current Ascendancy descriptions can be confirmed through the official Path of Exile Ascendancy classes page. One Step Ahead is a possible comfort alternative when Action Speed reduction is a larger concern than the final Spellbreaker package.

The passive tree should prioritise Mine Throwing Speed, Mine Damage, Critical Strike Chance for spells or mines, Critical Strike Multiplier, Maximum Life, Energy Shield, Evasion, and Spell Suppression. Allocate several different Masteries to improve Polymath, but do not take an inefficient cluster solely to increase the number of Mastery types.

Mine reservation and throwing cost must be solved before adding luxury damage nodes. Reservation Efficiency, Mana Cost Efficiency, maximum Mana, regeneration, and appropriate mine passives can all contribute. Allocate Whispers of Doom before attempting to maintain two different Hexes through Profane Proxy and Curse on Hit.

Bandits: Kill Alira, Kraityn, and Oak for Eramir's Passive Skill Point. The extra passive supports a Mastery, Jewel Socket, suppression node, Mana solution, or the route toward Whispers of Doom.

Pantheon: Soul of the Brine King is a dependable major choice while stun and freeze protection remain incomplete. Soul of Ralakesh helps against Bleeding and Corrupted Blood, while Soul of Abberath is an alternative when Ignite and burning ground are recurring problems.

Hexblast Trickster Leveling and Transition

Begin with Stormblast Mine and available Lightning supports. Use Orb of Storms for additional damage against bosses, Flame Dash for movement, and a wand or sceptre with useful spell modifiers. Mine Throwing Speed, Life, elemental resistances, and movement speed are more important than forcing critical investment during the first acts.

At level 28, move into Pyroclast Mine rather than immediately forcing Hexblast. Pyroclast Mine functions without a specialised curse item and can comfortably continue through the campaign or early Maps. Begin collecting Hexblast, High-Impact Mine, Minefield, Charged Mines, Summon Skitterbots, and the required curse equipment while continuing to level.

Switch to Hexblast Mines only after obtaining a dependable Hex source. Early options include a functional Curse on Hit item, Profane Proxy with its socketed Hex, or another tested method that consistently curses targets before Hexblast deals damage. Profane Proxy is not automatically available during a fresh campaign, so the transition level depends on the economy and drops rather than the Hexblast gem's minimum level.

Complete the Normal Labyrinth and take Polymath, followed by Swift Killer after the Cruel Labyrinth. During Acts 5 to 10, maintain capped elemental resistances after both campaign penalties, obtain movement speed boots, and upgrade Life and Energy Shield rather than buying critical equipment while the character remains fragile.

StageMain SkillProgression Goal
Acts 1–2Stormblast MineMine Throwing Speed, movement, Life, and resistances
Act 3Pyroclast MineMine supports, Skitterbots, four-link, and preparation for the curse transition
Acts 4–6Pyroclast Mine or curse-enabled HexblastPolymath, Swift Killer, Mana sustain, and dependable detonation
Acts 7–10Hexblast after curse acquisitionCritical scaling, hybrid defenses, and corrected resistances
White MapsHexblast MinesPersistent curse source, five-link, additional curse capacity, and suppression
Red MapsCritical Hexblast MinesSandstorm Visage, weapon upgrade, complete two-Hex package, and six-link

Before entering Maps, prepare capped elemental resistances, a usable Life total, positive Chaos Resistance where possible, functional mine detonation, and enough available Mana for several consecutive throws. Continue using Pyroclast Mine if the Hex source or resource setup is incomplete.

Hexblast Mines Gear and Flask Progression

Early equipment should solve Life, elemental resistances, attributes, Mana, and Spell Suppression. The critical version later adds Sandstorm Visage, a high-base-critical-strike wand, Profane Proxy, a Curse on Hit ring, and stronger gem-level or Critical Strike modifiers.

First RingLife, resistances, ManaProfane Proxy containing Elemental Weakness or the selected primary Hex
Second RingLife, resistances, attributesFlammability or another planned Curse on Hit with remaining defensive modifiers
BeltLife, resistances, StrengthStygian Vise with Life, Energy Shield, attributes, and a useful Abyss Jewel

Use the official Path of Exile Trade site to compare Sandstorm Visage, Profane Proxy, curse rings, and high-critical-strike wand bases. A weapon with strong local Critical Strike Chance becomes especially valuable because Sandstorm Visage uses the main-hand weapon's base Critical Strike Chance for spells.

The standard flask set uses a Divine Life Flask, Quicksilver Flask, Jade Flask, Quartz Flask, and Diamond Flask. Useful suffixes include movement speed, increased Evasion, reduced curse effect, Bleeding removal, and ailment protection. Expensive equipment should not replace capped resistances or a functioning Mana setup.

Defensive Layers, Map Modifiers, and Content Selection

The finished Trickster combines Evasion, Spell Suppression, Life, Energy Shield, Ghost Dance, charge bonuses, and recovery from Polymath. Freeze and Chill from strong Hexblast hits provide additional control, but ailment application against bosses depends on the size of the hit and cannot be treated as permanent defensive immunity.

Sandstorm Visage improves damage but normally provides less defensive value than a premium rare Energy Shield helmet, affecting the benefit gained through Escape Artist. Compensate with a strong Evasion body armour, suppression on other slots, sufficient Life and Energy Shield, and reliable flask modifiers.

Avoid Hexproof Maps because the build loses its normal hexed-target interaction. No Regeneration and severe recovery modifiers can also break Mana sustain or the hybrid defensive engine. Increased monster resistance, reduced curse effect, reduced aura effect, and critical-resistant monsters lower damage but are not always complete map bricks.

Patch 3.29 replaces the old percentage-based Physical and Elemental Reflect map modifiers with Physical and Elemental Thorns on rare monsters. Mines normally isolate the player from reflected damage generated by their hits, but Thorns are a new fixed-damage mechanic and should not be described using the former reflect-map rules. This chaos-focused build has limited direct interaction with Physical and Elemental Thorns, although unusual sources of added damage and the exact live mine interaction should still be checked before treating the modifier as irrelevant.

Hexblast Mines is particularly suited to Sanctum and predictable boss arenas because mines can be placed before engagement and the character can concentrate on positioning. Dense speed mapping is functional, but it will not always match a dedicated bow mapper because mines must be thrown and detonated before packs die.

Upgrade Order and Common Hexblast Mistakes

Hexblast damage depends on several connected systems, so the best upgrade is usually the one that fixes the current failure point. Buying Sandstorm Visage before obtaining a suitable weapon, curse setup, or defensive foundation can make the character worse rather than better.

  1. Level with Stormblast Mine and Pyroclast Mine while collecting the transition gems.
  2. Obtain a dependable Hex source before switching to Hexblast.
  3. Cap elemental resistances and establish Life, Energy Shield, and recovery.
  4. Acquire a five-link or six-link and recalculate the higher 3.29 mine cost.
  5. Add Profane Proxy and a Curse on Hit ring only with sufficient maximum curses.
  6. Reach reliable Spell Suppression and improve the Evasion body armour.
  7. Purchase Sandstorm Visage together with a high-critical-strike wand.
  8. Improve gem levels, Mine Throwing Speed, Critical Strike Multiplier, and jewels.
  9. Finish Chaos Resistance, ailment protection, flasks, and premium damage upgrades.

Players who want the curse limit, Mine Throwing Speed, critical scaling, and defenses balanced around one budget can order a custom Path of Exile build. The completed configuration should be checked as one system instead of combining unrelated items from several older Hexblast versions.

  • Switching without a Hex: Remain on Pyroclast Mine until Hexblast can consistently hit cursed targets.
  • Using two Hexes with a one-curse limit: Allocate Whispers of Doom or obtain another valid source of additional maximum curses.
  • Scaling Cast Speed: Mines depend on Mine Throwing Speed rather than the spell's normal cast animation.
  • Ignoring the 3.29 support nerfs: High-Impact Mine and Charged Mines now provide weaker damage or charge scaling with higher cost multipliers.
  • Ignoring available Mana: Active mines reserve their cost until they detonate.
  • Buying the wrong wand: Sandstorm Visage needs a weapon with a strong base and local Critical Strike Chance.
  • Assuming permanent Freeze: Ailment thresholds become harder to reach against durable bosses.
  • Copying an old Path of Building: Support penalties, Mana costs, socket Quality, and the curse limit must be recalculated for 3.29.

Final Hexblast Mines Trickster Recommendations

Hexblast Mines Trickster remains a viable PoE 3.29 bossing and Sanctum build with strong preloaded damage, automatic targeting, and a scalable critical-strike endgame. It is no longer an unconditional top league starter because High-Impact Mine and Charged Mines lost efficiency while their resource multipliers increased.

Level with conventional elemental mines, transition only after securing a Hex source, and solve the two-curse limit and Mana requirements before investing heavily in Sandstorm Visage. When these systems are coordinated, the character retains controlled ranged damage and strong encounter preparation despite the 3.29 mine-support reductions.
