Need Help Progressing in TBC Classic?

The Scale of the Sands is the raid reputation connected to the Battle for Mount Hyjal. In Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary, the faction becomes available with the Phase 3 raid opening on August 27, 2026. Blizzard confirms the date, the Mount Hyjal bosses, the reputation faction, and the epic gem vendors in the official Phase 3 announcement.

This guide explains how to unlock The Scale of the Sands, every source of reputation, the fastest weekly farming plan, the expected time to Exalted, all four Band of Eternity paths, the complete Jewelcrafting design list, Hunter ammunition, and the mistakes that can delay progress.

How to Unlock The Scale of the Sands

Soridormi walks around the central chamber of the Caverns of Time. At level 70, accept The Vials of Eternity from her before killing the two required Tier 5 end bosses. The quest must be active when the remnants are collected.

StepObjectiveRaidResult
1Accept The Vials of Eternity from SoridormiCaverns of TimeStarts the Mount Hyjal access quest
2Defeat Lady Vashj and loot Vashj's Vial RemnantSerpentshrine CavernCompletes the first raid objective
3Defeat Kael'thas Sunstrider and loot Kael's Vial RemnantTempest KeepCompletes the second raid objective
4Return both remnants to SoridormiCaverns of TimeGrants 3000 reputation and reaches Friendly

The 3000 reputation reward fills the complete Neutral bar and places the character at the start of Friendly. This unlocks the first Band of Eternity quest. The unlock is character specific, so completing it on one character does not provide another character with its ring progression.

How to Farm The Scale of the Sands Reputation

After the unlock, nearly all repeatable progress comes from Mount Hyjal. The first four bosses are preceded by eight fixed enemy waves each, creating 32 waves in a full raid. Reputation is awarded for eligible enemies and bosses up to Exalted.

A clean full clear generally produces roughly 8000 to 8500 reputation before racial bonuses. Published totals differ because some calculations handle opening waves, NPC kills, tagging, and quest reputation differently. Use the character reputation panel after every boss instead of treating one exact full clear total as guaranteed.

The kill values in the table follow established TBC Classic behavior. If Blizzard applies Anniversary specific tuning when Phase 3 goes live, the live reputation panel and combat log take priority.

Fastest Scale of the Sands Farming Plan

  1. Complete The Vials of Eternity before the first Mount Hyjal reset so the character begins at Friendly.
  2. Choose the correct Band of Eternity path and collect the first 250 reputation immediately.
  3. Join a stable 25-player group that expects to clear all five bosses, not only the early trash waves.
  4. Assign tanks and crowd control before each defense event so the raid does not lose enemies to allied NPCs or wipe during overlapping waves.
  5. Loot and tag carefully during the Horde camp because flying enemies can be killed by friendly defenders away from the main raid stack.
  6. Return to Soridormi as soon as Honored and Revered are reached, then complete the available ring upgrade for another 350 reputation.
  7. Repeat one complete Mount Hyjal clear each weekly reset until Exalted.

Full clears are the most reliable plan because they combine every trash section with 3000 boss reputation. A coordinated Hyjal Summit raid run can also provide a predictable weekly clear for players without a permanent raid group.

Historical TBC Classic versions allowed some pre-boss trash farming, but reset behavior, repeated wave credit, and raid ID handling were not always consistent. Do not build the Anniversary plan around repeated resets until the behavior is verified on live Phase 3 realms. A normal full clear remains the safe baseline.

Friendly to Exalted requires 39000 reputation. The ring quests completed before Exalted contribute 950, leaving about 38050 to earn through Mount Hyjal. At roughly 8000 to 8500 reputation per clean clear, most characters need five full weekly clears after finishing The Vials of Eternity. Partial clears, missed tags, and wipes can extend the schedule. Human characters gain reputation faster through Diplomacy, but a fifth raid visit may still be required.

Band of Eternity Ring Progression

Soridormi offers four mutually exclusive paths at Friendly. The names of the early rings are identical, but their item IDs and stats are different. Each later quest consumes the previous version and gives the next upgrade, so keep the ring in the inventory when returning to Soridormi.

Which Band of Eternity Should You Choose

Band of the Eternal RestorerHealers28 Stamina, 25 Intellect, 64 Healing, 10 mana per five seconds, and a temporary healing proc

The Defender path is designed around shield statistics and is not automatically the best tank ring for every specialization. Feral Druids cannot use Shield Block Value, while some Protection Paladins may value threat from the Sage path. Choose for the character's actual raid set instead of selecting only by role label.

Can You Change the Band of Eternity Path

The initial choice cannot be freely changed at Friendly, Honored, or Revered. At Exalted, Soridormi offers a ring exchange quest that requires the current final ring and 75 gold. The new reward can be selected from the other three Exalted versions.

Do not rely on customer support to reverse an early quest reward. Disable automatic quest turn-ins before speaking to Soridormi, compare all four paths, and confirm the selected quest before completing it. Replacing a deleted or misplaced ring may require Soridormi's recovery dialogue before another exchange becomes available.

Indormi and The Scale of the Sands Quartermaster

Indormi stands in the entrance area of the Battle for Mount Hyjal instance. Blizzard notes that players do not need to be in a raid group simply to enter the instance, so an attuned character can visit the entrance vendors without organizing a full raid. Indormi sells bind on pickup Jewelcrafting designs that require 375 Jewelcrafting and the listed reputation rank.

Tydormu also stands near the entrance and exchanges Mount Hyjal boss tokens for Tier 6 armor. Those exchanges are raid loot rewards rather than Scale of the Sands reputation purchases, so they are not part of Indormi's reputation inventory.

The designs teach cuts for Phase 3 epic gems. Reputation unlocks the recipe purchase, but the cut still requires the correct uncut gem. Crimson Spinel, Empyrean Sapphire, Lionseye, Shadowsong Amethyst, Pyrestone, and Seaspray Emerald come from Phase 3 raid related sources and the wider epic gem economy.

There are no additional Exalted Jewelcrafting designs in this vendor set. Exalted remains valuable because it completes the ring questline and allows ring path exchanges.

Timeless Arrow and Timeless Shell

Hunters unlock two level 70 ammunition options at Honored. Both add 53 damage per second and stack to 200. Their reputation requirement makes Honored an immediate performance milestone even for characters that do not need Jewelcrafting designs.

ItemTypeRequirementDamage per second
Timeless ArrowArrowLevel 70 and Honored53
Timeless ShellBulletLevel 70 and Honored53

Use cheaper ammunition for routine outdoor content if gold efficiency matters, then reserve Timeless ammunition for raids and other damage sensitive encounters. Reputation vendor discounts reduce the purchase price at higher standings.

Common Scale of the Sands Mistakes

  • Do not enter Phase 3 without accepting The Vials of Eternity if the character still needs both remnants.
  • Do not expect outdoor enemies, dungeons, daily quests, or item turn-ins to provide this reputation.
  • Do not choose the first ring with an automatic quest addon enabled. The four Friendly rewards have the same displayed name.
  • Do not leave an eligible ring upgrade unfinished because the Friendly, Honored, and Revered quests contribute 950 reputation before Exalted.
  • Do not assume one exact reputation total for every full clear. Tags, allied NPC kills, and live Anniversary behavior can change the result.
  • Do not plan around repeated trash resets until Phase 3 live realms confirm reputation and raid ID behavior.
  • Do not select Defender for a non-shield tank without comparing the unused Shield Block Value against another path.
  • Do not expect a free ring path change before Exalted. The later exchange requires the final ring and 75 gold.

The Scale of the Sands Progress Checklist

  1. Reach level 70.
  2. Accept The Vials of Eternity from Soridormi in the Caverns of Time.
  3. Collect the vial remnants from Lady Vashj and Kael'thas Sunstrider.
  4. Turn in the quest for 3000 reputation and Friendly standing.
  5. Choose the correct Champion, Sage, Defender, or Restorer ring path.
  6. Clear all five Mount Hyjal bosses and every available trash wave each reset.
  7. Return to Soridormi at Honored and Revered for the ring upgrades and reputation rewards.
  8. At Honored, buy any required mixed gem designs and Timeless Hunter ammunition.
  9. At Revered, buy the final four epic gem designs needed by the character.
  10. Continue weekly full clears until Exalted, then complete the final ring upgrade.
  11. If the character changes role, use the Exalted exchange instead of abandoning the completed ring chain.

Final Verdict

The Scale of the Sands is a focused raid reputation with no daily route or outdoor shortcut. Complete The Vials of Eternity first, choose the correct Band of Eternity path, clear Mount Hyjal from the first wave through Archimonde every reset, and claim each ring upgrade as soon as it becomes available. Five clean full clears after reaching Friendly are a practical Exalted estimate. The final rings reward every raid role, while Jewelcrafters and Hunters gain additional value from epic gem designs and high damage ammunition.
