Star Citizen Alpha 4.9 LIVE, titled Frontier Tensions, is dated July 15, 2026 by Cloud Imperium Games; the LIVE build became available at 02:30 UTC on July 16. The release runs on build 4.9.0-LIVE.12232306, preserves Long Term Persistence, and lists 20,000 aUEC as the default starting amount. This does not mean that every existing account was reset to 20,000 aUEC, because persistent balances were retained. It is a stability-focused update, but it also adds a new mission chain, reputation rewards, a flight-ready light fighter, an FPS rifle, combat clothing, combat feedback, mining changes, creature AI work, audio improvements, and dozens of quality-of-life updates.
The main progression addition is the Support the Miners mission pack built around Recco Battaglia and the People's Alliance in Nyx. Players can earn exclusive blueprints and unique versions of the Drake Golem, MISC Prospector, and ARGO MOLE. The only completely new ship hull in the patch is the Grey's Market Basher. The Behring CQ7 Bullpup Rifle and Bellator Combat Suit expand FPS loadouts, while six-state vehicle hit markers make the new ship armor model easier to read in combat.
Alpha 4.9 does not include every feature that appeared on its earlier roadmap. Instancing, the return of Siege of Orison, and associated instance content were moved to Alpha 4.10 so development time could be directed toward high-impact bugs. This review covers the content present in the LIVE release, every fix listed by Cloud Imperium Games, and the major unresolved issues tracked after launch.
Star Citizen 4.9 LIVE Release, Persistence and Patch Scope
Star Citizen 4.9 is a LIVE patch, not a PTU test build. Long Term Persistence is preserved, so this is not a full wipe like Alpha 4.8. The 20,000 aUEC shown in the build information is the default starting amount rather than a universal reset of existing balances. The official build information does not promise that every temporary object, active work order, consumable, or cargo item will survive migration, but it confirms that the LTP database was retained. Players should also imprint ship loadouts before leaving their hangars, as CIG specifically repeats that warning in the release notes.
| Release detail | Star Citizen Alpha 4.9 LIVE value |
|---|---|
| Patch name | Frontier Tensions |
| Release date | July 15, 2026 by CIG dating; LIVE download available July 16 at 02:30 UTC |
| LIVE build | 4.9.0-LIVE.12232306 |
| Long Term Persistence | Preserved |
| Listed starting balance | 20,000 aUEC |

| Moved to Alpha 4.10 | Instancing, Siege of Orison, and instance-related content |
The patch contains 83 fixes when the eight client crash fixes, two server crash fixes, three named connection and inventory error fixes, and 70 categorized gameplay fixes are counted together. This is why the release feels different from a normal quarterly feature update. Frontier Tensions adds a compact set of new activities while repairing mission blockers, ship behavior, docking, inventory access, elevators, jump travel, NPC combat, player trading, VOIP, and several Nyx activities introduced in earlier patches.
The July 15 official Roadmap Roundup also marks the Basher, CQ7, Support the Miners missions, combat clothing, new hairstyles, Nine Tails armor refresh, Valakkar behavior, ship flyby audio, ordnance cargo framing, and combat hit markers for Alpha 4.9. Features that were formally moved out are not presented below as LIVE content.
Star Citizen 4.9 Recco Battaglia Missions and New Rewards

Support the Miners is the central mission pack in Star Citizen 4.9. Recco Battaglia is an independent mining logistics coordinator connected to Levski, Miners Amalgamated, and the People's Alliance. Her repeatable contracts are accepted through mobiGlas. Completing them raises Recco reputation and opens additional contracts and milestone rewards.
The Frontier Tensions announcement frames the activity around the Moraine, a hostile group disrupting independent settlements in Nyx. The contracts cover several professions instead of forcing every player into ship mining. CIG identifies prospecting, mining, recovery, salvage, investigations, and ship reclamation as the main families. The announced objectives include scouting safe operating sites, locating missing workers, boarding hijacked ships to rescue survivors, recovering cargo taken during pirate attacks, salvaging vessels that cannot be saved, and delivering recovered resources.
Support the Miners Contract Types
- Prospecting and scouting: survey locations and identify safe areas or useful resources for future People's Alliance operations.
- Mining: extract requested materials and support the independent mining network operating around Levski and Nyx.
- Recovery and cargo retrieval: recover supplies lost or stolen during pirate raids and return them to the required destination.
- Search and investigation: follow leads, locate missing workers, and inspect sites connected to Moraine activity.
- Ship in Distress: board endangered or hijacked vessels, deal with hostile occupants, rescue survivors, and restore critical systems when the objective requires it.
- Salvage and reclamation: process ships that cannot be recovered intact, then move the remaining resources back into the local supply chain.
These contracts form an evergreen reputation ladder rather than a one-time event. The official notes do not publish the exact reputation threshold for every item or ship, so any tier-by-tier chart without current in-game confirmation would be speculative. The confirmed reward pool is still unusually valuable because it includes blueprints and complete special ship variants.
Recco Battaglia Reputation Rewards
| Reward | Confirmed delivery or unlock | Why it is unique |
|---|---|---|
| People's Alliance armor blueprints | Exclusive armor-piece blueprints granted through mission reputation | The designs are tied to Recco and People's Alliance progression |
| Klescher Laser Repeater component blueprints | Exclusive weapon-component blueprints awarded through the reputation track | They are not standard shop unlocks |
| Drake Golem People's Alliance variant | A unique Golem delivered to the player's home location at a higher reputation tier | Complete reward ship variant, not only a loose paint |
| MISC Prospector People's Alliance variant | A unique Prospector delivered to the player's home location at a higher reputation tier | Complete reward ship variant linked to Recco progression |
| ARGO MOLE People's Alliance variant | A unique MOLE delivered to the player's home location at a higher reputation tier | Top-end multicrew mining reward in the mission ladder |
CIG's official Recco Battaglia feedback thread confirms that the missions are repeatable and intended to unlock more opportunities in Alpha 4.9 and later updates. The ship rewards are earned in the alpha's persistent universe and delivered in game. The release notes do not describe them as permanent pledge-store entitlements, so players should not treat them as account-bound purchases that can never be affected by a future wipe.

Grey's Market Basher, CQ7 Rifle, Bellator Suit and Character Additions

The Grey's Market Basher is the only new flight-ready ship hull introduced in Star Citizen 4.9. It is a single-seat light fighter assembled from recognizable sections of the Drake Buccaneer, Aegis Avenger, Aegis Gladius, and the first-generation RSI Aurora. The result is deliberately improvised: exposed structure, a detachable crane aligned like a crude sight, an external rifle rack made from a hinged fence, and a filing cabinet used as personal storage.
Its combat identity comes from six Size 2 gun hardpoints. The stock arrangement uses four Snapper laser repeaters and two Deathroll ballistic gatlings, backed by four Size 1 missiles on two Size 2 racks. That is heavy forward armament for a light fighter, balanced by a single Size 1 shield and a small hull. The specification below combines the official Basher presentation with client-data values catalogued for build 4.9.0-LIVE.12232306 by the major community reference Star Citizen Wiki. Numerical performance values are build-specific and may change through balancing or hotfixes.
| Basher specification | Alpha 4.9 LIVE value |
|---|---|
| Role and crew | Small Size 2 light fighter, one pilot |
| Dimensions | 13.7 m long, 11.3 m wide, 4.5 m high |
| Stock guns | Four Size 2 Snapper laser repeaters and two Size 2 Deathroll ballistic gatlings |
| Missiles | Two Size 2 racks carrying four Size 1 missiles |
| Defense | 5,194 hull HP and 2,160 shield HP in the launch build |
| Speed | 220 m/s SCM speed and 1,180 m/s maximum speed |
| Utility | 0.65 SCU personal inventory, one external rifle rack, and a removable crane |
| Launch acquisition | Pledge availability; no confirmed in-game aUEC purchase or rental location at launch |
At launch, the community data page lists the Basher at $110 standalone or $100 Warbond. Store pricing and availability can change, so players should verify the current offer on the official pledge store before purchasing.
The Drake Golem, MISC Prospector, and ARGO MOLE mentioned in the reward section are not new base hulls. They are unique People's Alliance variants earned from Recco's reputation ladder. This distinction matters for searches about new Star Citizen 4.9 ships: Basher is the new flyable design, while the three mining ships are special mission rewards.
Behring CQ7 Bullpup Rifle
The CQ7 is a new close-quarters battle rifle with a compact bullpup layout, a lower cyclic rate than many recent FPS weapons, and a predictable Y-shaped recoil pattern. It supports automatic and burst fire. CIG positions it as a general-purpose rifle that rewards recoil control instead of relying on extremely high rate of fire.
| CQ7 statistic | Alpha 4.9 value |
|---|---|
| Fire modes | Automatic and burst |
| Damage | 16.5 per shot |
| Rate of fire | 650 RPM |
| Magazine | 40 rounds |
| Projectile velocity | 550 m/s |
| Aim-down-sight time | 0.25 seconds |
| Weight class | Average |
CQ7 rifles and ammunition were added to shops at multiple locations. The weapon can also appear in Ship in Distress missions and at the bases used by Moraine Data Retrieval and Moraine Movements contracts. This creates both a direct purchase route and mission-based acquisition options.
Bellator Combat Suit, Nine Tails Armor and Hairstyles
The Bellator Combat Suit is a tailored civilian outfit composed of a jacket, trousers, dress shirt, and shoes. It provides light damage mitigation without becoming normal armor. The jacket has two magazine slots and one visible stocked-weapon position. A sidearm and knife can be concealed when the matching jacket is worn. The trousers add two medpen slots and another knife slot. It is the patch's most unusual clothing addition because it combines formal appearance with a practical combat inventory.
Nine Tails grunt, elite, and boss NPCs receive refreshed faction armor visuals. This is an NPC presentation update rather than a Recco reward set. Character customization gains two new hairstyles, and one existing hairstyle is rebuilt to the current visual standard. The patch also changes juvenile and adult Valakkar behavior: sentry variants hide instead of biting at close range, mobile variants chase and reposition in combat, juveniles gain a bite, above-ground idling is reduced, and several attacks that previously dealt no damage now work.
Star Citizen 4.9 Combat, Mining, Scanning and Quality-of-Life Changes

Vehicle hit markers are the most important combat interface addition. Each successful shot now produces visual and audio feedback that identifies the layer or item affected. The six visual states are no damage or deflection, shield hit, armor hit, hull hit, component hit, and component destroyed. Pilots can therefore see whether a weapon is being rejected by armor, stripping protection, penetrating into the hull, or disabling internal equipment.
The accompanying sound system uses three core result layers for armor damage, component damage, and component destruction. CIG removed the combat cues from the legacy ship-computer audio path and replaced them with a dedicated palette. The practical benefit is faster target assessment without watching the reticle after every projectile.
Vehicle Weapon Balance Changes
Alpha 4.9 includes a broader balance pass that greatly reduces the damage of ballistic repeater weapons. CIG did not publish individual before-and-after values for every affected repeater. The patch also sharply restructures the Size 4 Behr ballistic cannon: it gains much higher per-shot damage, but loses penetration distance and fires more slowly. The remaining weapons listed below receive direct damage reductions.
| Vehicle weapon | Previous damage | Alpha 4.9 damage | Additional change |
|---|---|---|---|
| BEHR Ballistic Cannon S4 | 325 physical | 1,090 physical | Shorter armor penetration distance and longer delay between shots |
| BEHR Ballistic Gatling S5 | 126.5 physical | 102.5 physical | Damage reduction |
| Esperia Deadbolt Cannon S4 | 683.1 physical | 610 physical | Damage reduction |
| Esperia Deadbolt Cannon S5 | 1,024.2 physical | 950 physical | Damage reduction |
| Vanduul Plasma Cannon S5 | 1,000 energy | 970 energy | Damage reduction |
Combat missions were also rebalanced around ship armor. Industrial ships should no longer appear as attackers unless a mission explicitly calls for them. Defend Ship contracts now use a lower-class attacker against the protected vessel, giving players more time to intervene. Vanduul shields receive improved glow and hexagonal effects, and capital ships can request hangar services when any part of the hull overlaps a service zone instead of requiring the ship's center point to sit inside it.
Mining, Scanning, Cargo and Economy Updates
- Experimental material scanning: resource scanning across the Persistent Universe is easier. CIG is monitoring the feature in LIVE because it was introduced as an experimental change.
- Mining laser output: ship mining lasers gain approximately 20 percent more power across the board.
- Nyx resources: common resource distribution changes at Glacium and Keeger HPP.
- Ordnance cargo frames: missiles and torpedoes placed on cargo grids display a bounding frame. The frame shows footprint, stacking space, orientation, and snap direction in ships and freight elevators.
- Freight kiosk filtering: separate Local and External toggles are replaced by one Show External checkbox.
- Freight claim feedback: disabled Claim buttons now explain whether the cause is insufficient funds, excessive selection, cooldown, or no selected items.
- Partial cargo transfers: the kiosk now explains when only the items that fit were moved and the remainder stayed in the warehouse. The dismissal button also closes the notice correctly.
- Adagio salvage progression: paid salvage contracts now use an unlock chain.
- Distribution Centers: tractor beams can be used inside their armistice zones.
Mission Visibility, Shops, Audio, VR and Server Cleanup
- Bombing Run contracts are regional and appear only near the part of space where they take place.
- Destroy Satellite contracts are also regional, preventing players from accepting distant objectives across all of Stanton.
- Named waypoints were added to important Nyx locations.
- Dumper's Depot and Platinum Bay commodity kiosks were replaced with item kiosks.
- Area18's Dumper's Depot shelves now stock jump drives, while the store inventory adds food and drinks.
- New Deal in Lorville receives additional ship-dealership kiosks.
- Live grenades now display a HUD warning marker.
- Ship attenuation and flyby playback were retuned for better distance falloff, positional awareness, and mix clarity. A procedural trigger system also makes flyby sounds play more consistently.
- Experimental VR fixes align the stereo cursor with the body, restore it over radar UI elements, and remove a performance regression introduced during PTU testing.
- Abandoned ships at major landing zones and stations in Stanton and Nyx, including GrimHEX, Levski, and other Nyx social stations, can be removed after five hours in an abandoned state.
- ASOP logic suppresses the Claim button while a ship is still moving to a pad and correctly recognizes vehicles stored in hangar inventory instead of showing Claim only.
Every Star Citizen 4.9 Bug Fix and Stability Update
The LIVE notes list eight client crash fixes, two server crash fixes, and corrections for three disruptive error codes. Error 64008 no longer blocks affected accounts with a Spawn Resolver Error, error 64006 should no longer disconnect players during an active session, and error 60029 triggered by stowing items is fixed. The remaining 70 fixes are grouped below by the same gameplay categories used in the official release notes, but each description has been rewritten for clarity.

Star Citizen 4.9 Known Issues and LIVE Hotfix Status
Alpha 4.9 fixes many blockers but does not clear the entire Issue Council backlog. CIG's current Alpha 4.9 known-issues page still tracks login errors, spawn resolution failures, Vulkan performance drops, repair failures on some ships, missing rental ships, inventory losses, mission-history resets, and several location-specific problems.
| Area | Important unresolved Alpha 4.9 issues |
|---|---|
| Login and client | Error 41013, several 19k, 30k, and 60k conditions, infinite loading, error 60029 shard lock, error 64006 or 64010 spawn resolution, and severe Vulkan frame-rate drops |
| Ships | Some ships cannot complete repairs after thruster loss, snares or dampeners can disappear from the vehicle console, rentals may be absent from ASOP, the Drake Command Module radar can fail, and the Reliant can lose mode switching |
| Locations | Levski railing traps, Area18 storage errors, dangerous Lorville trams, Klescher timer resets, missing hangar audio, and stale Landing Services data |
| Inventory and crafting | Hand-held items can disappear after logout, crafted bonuses may not display, some pledge items may be missing, mining work orders can fail to start, and armor swaps can delete items |
| Missions and Arena Commander | Mission history can reset on client exit, some target NPCs or Orison raid targets fail to spawn, several Arena Commander loadouts are absent, and some game modes reject entry |
| Interface | Repeatedly opening the Starmap can reduce performance, and the Select System menu can appear empty |
Several other high-impact problems are also listed by CIG: items may be replaced with fire extinguishers, salvage audio can loop continuously, unexpected components can catch fire, Idris shields may fail to block most laser weapons, naming a ship can delete equipped items, Quantum Interdiction Devices may fail to activate, velocity limiters can cause a loss of thrust, and the Hull A can spawn with partially extended cargo spindles.
The release notes list EVA placement of mining gadgets as fixed, but CIG's current known-issues page still reports that mining gadgets may be impossible to place while in EVA. Players should therefore treat this fix as unreliable or potentially regressed until CIG removes the issue from its active list.
CIG opened a separate 4.9 HOTFIX channel on July 16. The test client, build 12248363, targets the five leading client crashes, recurring loading screens, hit-marker feedback, VR problems, a Wave Scanner faction label showing Unavailable, failed drag-and-drop for magazines and consumables, and several exploits. Server-side work was also applied to reduce error 19003. The official Hotfix Central thread is a living status page, so players should check it before assuming the test build has been promoted to the standard LIVE channel.
Conclusion
Star Citizen 4.9 is a repair-focused release with a stronger progression hook than its size suggests. Recco Battaglia turns mining support into a multi-profession reputation path, and the reward ladder gives industrial players concrete long-term targets beyond aUEC. The Basher and CQ7 add distinct combat tools without distracting from the patch's central work on mission reliability, ship behavior, inventory, travel, and server cleanup. The vehicle hit-marker system is the update most likely to affect every combat pilot. Armor, hull, and component damage now produce readable feedback, so weapon choice and target selection can be judged during a fight. Mining laser power, experimental scanning, cargo framing, regional contracts, improved freight messages, and abandoned-ship cleanup address smaller frustrations across several careers. The remaining known issues show that 4.9 is not a final stability pass. Its value is the combination of preserved progression, worthwhile Recco rewards, and broad repair work while larger instance content waits for 4.10. Players returning for Frontier Tensions have a clear activity path: start with Support the Miners, build reputation for the exclusive blueprints and mining ships, test the Basher or CQ7, and follow Hotfix Central for the next client fixes.
