VALORANT Agent Mastery is a per-Agent progression system introduced in Patch 13.06. Every Agent has their own Mastery Points, Act Levels, Lifetime Levels, Reward Track and Agent ID. Playing one Agent only progresses that Agent — playing Jett does not increase your Sage or Sova Mastery.
The system has two progression layers. Act Levels reset every Act, while Lifetime Levels are permanent. Each Act Level you earn also adds one Lifetime Level.
| System | How it works | Resets? |
|---|---|---|
| Mastery Points | Earned by playing a specific Agent | Used for current Act progression |
| Act Level | 10 main levels per Agent each Act | Yes, every new Act |
| Lifetime Level | Permanent total of Act Levels earned | No |
| Reward Track | Unlocks Agent-specific rewards by Lifetime Level | No |
| Agent ID | Customizable Agent stats, visuals and pose | No |
What Is Agent Mastery in Valorant?
Agent Mastery tracks how much you play and progress with each individual Agent.
It replaced the previous Agent Gear progression system in Patch 13.06 on September 22, 2026.
Every playable Agent has their own separate progression:
- Act Level;
- Lifetime Level;
- Reward Track;
- Agent ID;
- Mastery Points earned while playing that Agent.
If you switch Agents often, your Mastery progress is distributed between several separate tracks.
For the complete current roster, see our list of all VALORANT Agents.
How Do You Earn Mastery Points?
You earn Mastery Points (MP) by playing supported game modes with a specific Agent.
Current supported modes are:
- Competitive;
- Unrated;
- Swiftplay;
- Spike Rush;
- Team Deathmatch;
- Premier.
Standard Deathmatch is not on Riot's supported Mastery list. Team Deathmatch is.
The MP earned from a match only goes to the Agent you played in that match.
What Determines How Many Mastery Points You Get?
Riot confirms three main factors:
- match duration — longer play time gives more MP;
- winning — wins provide bonus MP;
- performance — strong performance and a high Performance Score can provide additional MP.
Riot has not published the complete MP formula or a guaranteed MP-per-match table.
That means claims such as “this mode always gives exactly X MP per hour” should be treated as estimates rather than official rules.

The live client currently shows several useful cumulative checkpoints:
| Act Level | Cumulative MP | Milestone |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2,000 MP | First Act Level |
| 2 | 10,500 MP | Early progression |
| 4 | 30,300 MP | Portrait Accent |
| 7 | 71,900 MP | Portrait Accent |
| 10 | 132,400 MP | Portrait Accent + Overleveling |
These are current live-client checkpoints, not a Riot-published mathematical progression formula. Exact intermediate requirements can change, so the in-game Mastery screen remains the final source for your current account.
How Do Act Levels Work?
Each Agent has 10 main Act Levels during every Act.
You increase them by earning Mastery Points on that Agent.
The important milestones are:
- Act Level 4: Portrait Accent upgrade;
- Act Level 7: additional Portrait Accent upgrade;
- Act Level 10: final main Portrait Accent and access to Overleveling.
Your current Act Level can appear publicly on your Agent Portrait, Agent Select, Combat Report and Match History.
What Is Overleveling?
Reaching Act Level 10 does not stop your progression.
You can continue earning Mastery progress through Overleveling for the remainder of that Act.
Level 10 is therefore the end of the main Act reward track, not the point where the Agent stops recording progress.
Does Agent Mastery Reset Every Act?
Only Act Levels reset.
At the start of a new Act:
- your Act Level progression starts again;
- Lifetime Level remains permanently;
- unlocked Reward Track items remain yours;
- previously earned Lifetime progress is not removed.
Portrait upgrades earned from the previous Act remain visible for one additional Act.
What Are Lifetime Levels?
Lifetime Level is your permanent Mastery progression with an Agent.
Riot's rule is simple:
1 Act Level earned = 1 Lifetime Level earned.
For example, if you reach:
- Act Level 10 in one Act;
- Act Level 8 in the next;
- Act Level 6 in another;
you have added 24 Lifetime Levels across those Acts.
Lifetime Levels do not reset when a new Act starts.
Is Lifetime Level Capped at 30?
No. Level 30 is currently the final major Reward Track stage, not the maximum Lifetime Level.
Your Lifetime Level can continue increasing as you play the Agent in future Acts.
This distinction matters because many early Mastery guides incorrectly describe Level 30 as the maximum Mastery level.
What Do Lifetime Levels Unlock?
Lifetime progress unlocks sections of the Agent's Reward Track.
Current tracks use major reward stages at:
- Lifetime Level 5;
- Lifetime Level 10;
- Lifetime Level 15;
- Lifetime Level 20;
- Lifetime Level 25;
- Lifetime Level 30.
Reaching the required level usually unlocks access to the reward. It does not mean every item is automatically given to you.
Most Reward Track items must then be purchased with Kingdom Credits.
What Rewards Can Agent Mastery Give?
The exact cosmetic names differ by Agent, but current Reward Tracks can contain:
- Agent-specific Player Cards;
- sprays;
- titles;
- quotes;
- backgrounds;
- Agent ID frames;
- Agent ID stats;
- gun buddies;
- Agent-specific sidearm skins from the previous Gear system;
- Mastery Poses;
- Mastery Player Cards.
The rewards are cosmetic or profile-display content. Agent Mastery does not provide combat bonuses or stronger abilities.
Do You Get Rewards Automatically?
Not all of them.
Lifetime Levels unlock access to Reward Track sections, but the items inside are generally purchased with Kingdom Credits.
This creates two separate requirements:
- reach the required Lifetime Level;
- spend Kingdom Credits on the reward you want.
Mastery rewards purchased with Kingdom Credits are not refundable.
What Happened to Old Agent Gear?
Agent Mastery replaced the previous Agent Gear progression system.
Old Gear rewards were moved into the new Reward Tracks.
If you had already unlocked an Agent Gear item before the Mastery update, you keep it. You do not have to buy it again.
However, previous playtime did not convert into Mastery Levels.
Why Did Everyone Start at Mastery Level 0?
Agent Mastery launched as a clean slate.
Even players who had played the same Agent for years started with:
- Act Level 0;
- Lifetime Level 0.
Old hours played and previous Agent progression did not retroactively generate Mastery Points.
What Is an Agent ID?
Agent ID is a customizable profile for an individual Agent.
It lets you display Mastery-related visuals and statistics associated with that Agent.
You can customize elements such as:
- background;
- frame;
- quote;
- Agent Pose;
- displayed statistics.
Which Stats Are Available for Free on Agent ID?
Riot currently provides several stats as default customization options:
| Stat | What it tracks |
|---|---|
| Assists | Assists while using the Agent |
| Act Level 10s | How many times you reached Act Level 10 |
| Hours Played | Total hours on that Agent |
| Games Won | Games won with that Agent |
| Damage | Total damage dealt |
| Kills | Total kills with that Agent |
Which Agent ID Stats Must Be Unlocked?
Additional stats are available through the Reward Track once you meet the required Mastery level.
These include:
- K/D ratio;
- MVP Count;
- Win Rate;
- Aces;
- Clutches;
- First Bloods;
- Headshots.
These stats can then be equipped to the Agent ID.
Where Is the Agent Pose Displayed?
Your selected Agent Pose can appear in several places:
- Agent ID;
- End of Game Progression;
- End of Game MVP screen;
- Player Profile;
- Act Level Progression screen.
Can Other Players See Your Agent Mastery?
Yes.
Your Mastery level can be displayed in places such as Agent Select, Agent Portraits, Combat Report and Match History.
Riot does not treat this as private information.
Can You Hide Agent Mastery?
No.
Riot specifically states that Agent Mastery cannot be hidden, including through Streamer Mode.
Lifetime Mastery also cannot be manually changed or erased by Player Support.
What Is the Fastest Way to Level Agent Mastery?
There is no officially confirmed single “best MP per hour” mode.
Riot rewards:
- play time;
- wins;
- good performance.
The practical strategy is therefore:
- Play the same Agent consistently. Switching Agents spreads progress.
- Play supported modes you can perform well in.
- Prioritize winning rather than farming meaningless kills.
- Improve your Performance Score where that system applies.
- Play enough to reach the important Act milestones at 4, 7 and 10.
If your goal is Lifetime Mastery, consistency across multiple Acts matters more than trying to grind everything in one session.
Does Competitive Give More Mastery Points?
Competitive can produce strong MP gains because matches are often longer and both winning and performance can add bonuses.
However, Riot has not published enough official numerical data to state that Competitive always gives the highest MP per hour.
Do not choose a mode purely because a third-party calculator claims a fixed rate.
Does Team Deathmatch Give Agent Mastery?
Yes. Team Deathmatch is officially supported.
This is useful if you want shorter sessions while still progressing a specific Agent.
Does Normal Deathmatch Give Mastery Points?
Not according to Riot's current supported-mode list.
Team Deathmatch is included; standard free-for-all Deathmatch is not.
Does Spike Rush Give Mastery Points?
Yes. Spike Rush is included in the supported Agent Mastery modes.
Does Swiftplay Give Mastery Points?
Yes. Swiftplay progresses the Agent you use in that match.
Does Agent Mastery Affect Ranked?
No.
Agent Mastery is a progression and customization system. It does not:
- increase RR;
- change hidden MMR;
- buff Agent abilities;
- change weapon damage;
- improve matchmaking priority.
For actual Ranked progression, use our VALORANT Rank Up Guide.
Does Performance Score Affect Mastery?
Riot confirms that strong performance and a high Performance Score can contribute bonus Mastery Points.
Performance Score measures more than raw kills, so playing for Agent value, assists, utility, objective actions and useful combat performance can matter more than simply chasing K/D.
For how that system works, see our VALORANT Performance Score and Map Rating guide.
Should You Focus on One Agent?
If your goal is reaching Mastery rewards quickly, yes.
Because progression is Agent-specific:
- 10 matches on Jett only progress Jett;
- 10 matches split between five Agents divide progress across five tracks.
For Ranked improvement, however, do not pick an Agent solely because you want a cosmetic reward. Your competitive Agent pool should still match your role and team needs.
Common Agent Mastery Mistakes
| Mistake | What actually happens |
|---|---|
| Expecting old playtime to count | Everyone started at zero when Mastery launched |
| Thinking all Mastery resets | Only Act Levels reset; Lifetime Levels remain |
| Thinking Level 30 is the permanent cap | It is the current top Reward Track stage, not the Lifetime cap |
| Playing standard Deathmatch for MP | It is not on Riot's current supported list |
| Expecting rewards automatically | Most Reward Track items still require Kingdom Credits |
| Switching Agents every match | Progress is split between multiple Agents |
| Trying to hide Mastery with Streamer Mode | Riot does not allow Agent Mastery to be hidden |

Final Summary
VALORANT Agent Mastery rewards long-term play on individual Agents. Earn MP by playing supported modes, reach the 10 main Act Levels, continue through Overleveling and build permanent Lifetime Levels across future Acts.
