Valorant Sunset Map Guide: Callouts, Mid & Strategy

Valorant Sunset Map Guide: Callouts, Mid & Strategy

Sunset is a traditional two-site, three-lane VALORANT map where Mid control is the strategic center of almost every round. Teams that own Mid can pressure A through A Link or threaten B through B Market, making defensive rotations much harder to read.

Sunset also has one destructible mechanical door between Mid Courtyard and B Market. Once destroyed, it stays permanently open for the rest of the round, which can completely change how B rotations and retakes work.

Is Sunset in the Current Valorant Map Pool?

Yes. Sunset is currently in Competitive together with Abyss, Bind, Corrode, Haven, Lotus and Summit.

Sunset returned to Competitive in Patch 13.00 alongside Summit and remained in the pool through the current Act.

For the complete live rotation, see our current VALORANT map pool guide.

Sunset Map Layout Explained

Sunset follows a classic three-lane structure:

  • A lane: A Lobby → A Main → A Site;
  • Mid: Mid Bottom / Tiles → Mid Courtyard → Mid Top;
  • B lane: B Lobby → B Main → B Site.

A Link connects Mid toward A, while B Market connects Mid toward B.

This makes Mid extremely valuable because controlling it lets attackers threaten both sites without fully committing to either Main lane.

Why Mid Control Is So Important on Sunset

Mid is the most important neutral territory on Sunset.

Attackers who control Mid can:

  • split A through A Link;
  • enter or pressure B Market;
  • rotate between sites without returning deep into Attacker Spawn;
  • force defenders to watch more angles;
  • punish defensive over-rotations.

Defenders therefore need at least information around Mid even when they do not want to fight aggressively for it.

How Does the Sunset B Market Door Work?

Sunset has one mechanical door between Mid Courtyard and B Market.

The door:

  • can be opened or closed with the switch on the Market side;
  • is impenetrable while fully closed;
  • has 500 HP;
  • can be destroyed with weapons and supported damaging abilities;
  • stays permanently open for the remainder of the round once destroyed.

This creates a major strategic choice: preserving the door keeps a controllable barrier between Mid and B, while destroying it permanently creates another rotation route.

Should Attackers Break the B Market Door?

Not automatically.

Breaking the door is useful when your team wants:

  • permanent Mid-to-B access;
  • a B split through Market and Main;
  • a post-plant route through Mid;
  • to deny defenders the ability to close the route later.

But once the door is destroyed, defenders can also use the same open route.

Always consider who benefits more from the permanent opening.

What Changed on Sunset B Site?

Patch 9.08 significantly reworked Sunset's B side.

Riot changed:

  • B Main;
  • B Main Exterior;
  • B Site;
  • B Site Back;
  • B Boba;
  • Mid Courtyard.

The goal was to reduce the strength of B Main post-plants, improve site defensibility and give both teams more options for fighting on and around the site.

Older guides showing the original B Main pivot box or early Cypher setups may therefore be outdated.

How to Attack Sunset

The strongest attacking rounds usually combine Main pressure with Mid control.

A basic default can place players around:

  • A Main;
  • Mid Tiles / Bottom;
  • B Main.

This forces defenders to reveal utility and makes the final site harder to predict.

How to Attack A Site

A attacks normally revolve around A Main and A Link.

Control A Main

Use recon, flashes or damaging utility to clear close Main positions before several players commit.

Important defensive areas include:

  • A Site;
  • A Elbow;
  • A Alley;
  • A Link.

Use A Link for a Split

If attackers own Mid, A Link creates a second direction onto A.

A Main + A Link is much harder to defend than five players pushing only through Main because defenders must constantly reposition their crosshairs.

How to Attack B Site

B is closely connected to Mid through Market.

Attackers generally have two major pressure routes:

  • B Main;
  • B Market through Mid.

A coordinated B split can force the site defenders to fight in opposite directions.

Do Not Treat B Main Like the Old Version

Patch 9.08 changed B Main and the site specifically to reduce overly powerful post-plants.

Take enough site control after planting instead of automatically retreating into an old B Main lineup position.

Control Market

B Market is strategically important because it:

  • connects Mid to B;
  • supports split executes;
  • provides a retake route;
  • contains the mechanical door.

How to Defend Sunset

Sunset defense is heavily influenced by how much Mid information you keep.

Do Not Give Mid Away Every Round

You do not need to die fighting Mid, but attackers should not reach Courtyard and Market for free.

Useful options include:

  • early recon;
  • Sentinel utility;
  • one aggressive rifle angle;
  • a safe information peek followed by a fallback.

Protect the B Market Connection

If attackers gain Mid and destroy the Market door, B becomes much harder to read because the route remains open for the entire round.

Communicate immediately when the door takes heavy damage or breaks.

Do Not Over-Rotate

Sunset's Mid structure makes fakes dangerous.

Attackers can show A Main pressure and then quickly pivot through Mid toward B, or do the opposite.

Rotate based on confirmed information rather than one smoke or flash.

Best Agents for Sunset

RoleStrong current picksWhy they work
DuelistPhoenix, Yoru, NeonStrong direct fights, fast rotations and flexible Mid pressure
ControllerClove, OmenReliable smoke coverage across Mid and both sites
InitiatorSova, FadeExcellent information and clearing utility
SentinelCypher, VyseStrong Mid, flank and site control

Current Ranked data puts Cypher, Sova, Phoenix, Yoru, Fade and Clove among Sunset's strongest well-sampled performers.

For the overall current meta, see our VALORANT Agent Tier List.

Why Cypher Is Strong on Sunset

Cypher is particularly effective because Sunset has predictable Main lanes and an extremely important central area.

His utility can:

  • protect flanks;
  • monitor B or Mid rotations;
  • anchor a site while teammates fight elsewhere;
  • give defenders information without permanently exposing a player.

Sova on Sunset

Sova performs extremely well in current Ranked data.

Recon Bolt and Owl Drone are useful for:

  • clearing B Main;
  • checking Mid;
  • supporting site entries;
  • confirming whether pressure is a real execute or a fake.

Fade on Sunset

Fade offers a more close-range information style than Sova.

Prowlers are especially useful for clearing compact Main, Market and site positions.

Phoenix on Sunset

Phoenix currently performs well in Ranked and works naturally around Sunset's medium-range corridors.

His flashes are easy to use around:

  • A Main;
  • A Link;
  • Mid;
  • B Main;
  • B Market.

Yoru on Sunset

Yoru benefits from Sunset's strong Mid connection because he can create pressure on one side and quickly reposition.

He is especially useful for teams that want to manipulate rotations rather than play predictable five-player executes.

Clove vs Omen on Sunset

Clove

Clove is a strong Ranked choice with straightforward smoke coverage and good value in chaotic site fights.

Omen

Omen provides flexible long-range smokes and can use Paranoia effectively through narrow Main, Link and Market routes.

Vyse on Defense

Vyse currently performs especially well on Sunset's defensive side.

Her utility can make Main entrances expensive and delay an execute while teammates rotate from Mid or the opposite site.

Example Sunset Team Composition

A balanced Ranked composition can be:

Phoenix / Clove / Sova / Fade / Cypher

This provides:

  • reliable entry power;
  • flexible smokes;
  • two sources of information and clearing utility;
  • strong flank and site control.

For a faster composition, Phoenix can be replaced by Neon or Yoru depending on player comfort.

Best Weapons on Sunset

Sunset contains many medium-range rifle fights with several longer Mid sightlines.

Vandal is a strong general choice for Mid and longer Main fights.

Phantom works well around smokes, Market and tighter site engagements.

Operator can punish predictable Mid or Main peeks, but Sunset's multiple rotation routes make static positioning risky.

Odin and other high-penetration weapons can provide situational value but should not be treated as substitutes for actual map control.

See our VALORANT Weapons Guide for current damage and prices.

Two: A and B.

How many official callouts are on Sunset?

17.

Yes. The mechanical door between Mid Courtyard and B Market has 500 HP.

Can the B Market door be reopened after it is destroyed?

No. Once destroyed, the doorway remains open for the rest of the round.

What is the most important area on Sunset?

Mid is generally the strategic priority because it gives attackers access toward both A Link and B Market.

Was Sunset B Site reworked?

Yes. Patch 9.08 changed B Main, B Site, B Boba, Mid Courtyard and surrounding areas to improve defensive options and reduce overly strong B Main post-plants.

Is Sunset currently in Competitive?

Yes.

What are the best Agents for Sunset?

Strong current Ranked choices include Cypher, Sova, Phoenix, Yoru, Fade, Clove, Neon and Vyse depending on role and team structure.

Final Sunset Strategy

The simplest way to understand Sunset is: control Mid and force the opponent to defend both Link routes.

On attack, use Mid to create A Link or B Market splits instead of relying on repeated five-player Main hits.

On defense, maintain Mid information, communicate around the Market door and avoid over-rotating until the attacking team reveals its real commitment.
