Elyos Starting Areas and Theme
Elyos belong to Elysea, the brighter side of Atreia. Their early Global progression takes them through Poeta and Verteron.
Elysea's generally brighter presentation is a useful aesthetic distinction. Treat it as a setting preference when comparing the two sides.
Choose Elyos if you prefer:
- brighter environments;
- the Elyos story perspective;
- lighter faction visual themes;
- the Elyos community or Legion your friends selected.
A brighter setting does not establish faster leveling or easier combat. The two starting routes should not be assumed to take exactly the same time either.
Asmodian Starting Areas and Theme
Asmodians belong to Asmodae, the generally darker side of Atreia. Their early progression moves through Ishalgen and Altgard.
Its darker visual presentation is a matter of setting and taste, not a difficulty setting.

- the Asmodian story perspective;

How Faction Servers Work in AION 2
AION 2 Global uses separate Elyos and Asmodian home servers.
The character-creation flow is:
- Choose your Global region.
- Choose Elyos or Asmodians.
- Select one of the available servers for that faction.
For faction-war modes, an Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian server. In the announced European Advanced Access lineup, for example, Siel is paired with Israphel.

Do Server Pairings Stay the Same?
No. NC has confirmed that Elyos/Asmodian server pairings can be updated periodically to help maintain faction balance.
This means you should not select your permanent home server only because you want to fight a particular enemy server. Today's opponent may change later.
Can Elyos and Asmodians Play Together?
Yes, through supported dungeon matchmaking. NC's Global dungeon showcase described matching across servers and factions within a region, with a “My Faction Only” option for players who prefer same-faction groups.
This does not give both factions a shared home server. If your group also wants to quest together in its home territory and join the same Legion, coordinate faction and server before creating your mains.
Safe rule for friends: choose the same region, same faction and same home server. Dungeon matchmaking gives you more grouping options, while matching your home choices also supports open-world play together.
How Elyos vs Asmodian PvP Works
Your faction determines the side you represent in faction warfare.
AION 2 pairs Elyos and Asmodian servers so that players meet in activities such as:
- the Abyss;
- Spacetime Rifts;
- other supported cross-faction modes.
Faction names alone do not predict the winner. For faction warfare, consider active participation, character progression and coordination on the paired servers.

Which Faction Has More Players?
The official launch notices used for this guide do not provide a live population breakdown by faction and server. They do not establish a universally more populated Global faction.
Reddit polls, Discord polls and creator communities can show what a specific audience plans to play, but they do not measure the entire AION 2 population.
Population also needs to be considered per server pair. A broad Global poll tells you little about the actual Elyos/Asmodian balance on the specific servers that matter to your character.
Can You Change Faction in AION 2?
The announced transfers do not change faction. As of October 6, NC plans to introduce server transfers on October 14, 2026, allowing moves between eligible servers of the same faction.
That means:
- Elyos can transfer to an eligible Elyos server;
- Asmodians can transfer to an eligible Asmodian server;
- a server transfer does not turn an Elyos character into Asmodian;
- a server transfer does not turn an Asmodian character into Elyos.
NC says transfers will initially be free. Advanced Access characters will be restricted to Advanced Access servers and cannot transfer to Commercial Launch servers under the announced rules.
Choose your main's faction carefully: the announced transfer feature will not correct a faction mismatch with friends. Check the final transfer notice for eligibility details.
Best Faction for PvE
No faction-wide PvE stat advantage has been announced for Global.
For dungeon play, focus on your class, build, equipment and group coordination. Different starting quests do not prove one faction is universally better at PvE.

Best Faction for PvP
