Is AION 2 Free to Play? Membership & Marketplace

Is AION 2 free to play? Yes. AION 2 Global launches as a free-to-play PC MMORPG through Steam and PURPLE on October 5, 2026. No game purchase or mandatory subscription is required. Founder's Pack owners receive five days of Advanced Access beginning September 30. However, free access does not mean unrestricted access to every economic feature. NC's optional $15 Special Quai Membership provides Market purchasing, access to the Kina/Quna Exchange and additional convenience and reward benefits. According to the August product comparison, nonmembers can list eligible items on the local Server Market but cannot purchase listings. NC also confirmed on September 18 that direct player-to-player trading will be disabled for Global as an anti-bot measure. These are the latest published pre-launch rules; the final retail permissions still require verification when the live economy opens.

Short answer: You can start AION 2 for $0 on October 5 and earn Kina through gameplay. Membership is optional for playing, but provides important economic permissions, additional conveniences and expanded reward-selection benefits.

Is AION 2 Global Free to Download and Play?

Yes. The Global base game becomes free to download and play on October 5. Purchasing a Founder's Pack or maintaining Special Quai Membership is not required to access the public release. Steam lists AION 2 as Free To Play with in-app purchases. The announced Global release is for Windows PC through Steam and NC's PURPLE launcher. The availability of mobile versions in Korea and Taiwan does not establish a Global mobile release.

Free access covers the core game rather than a limited trial with a mandatory purchase to unlock ordinary character progression. Players can develop their characters and earn gameplay currency without subscribing. However, some player-economy transactions and additional reward opportunities have separate Membership requirements. For release dates, platforms and client availability, see the AION 2 Global release guide.

How Much Is AION 2 Special Quai Membership?

NC's published US reference price for Special Quai Membership is $15 for 30 days. It is an optional entitlement rather than a mandatory payment for entering the game. Standalone Membership sales are scheduled to begin through the in-game Subscription menu on October 5. The final amount charged depends on the applicable regional storefront and payment conditions.

Membership Duration, Activation and Extension

The published product terms count the 30-day benefit period from activation rather than merely from purchase. Buying another eligible Membership extends the remaining benefit period by 30 days. NC permits another purchase when fewer than 60 days of Membership benefits remain and lists a maximum of three purchases per server per month. These rules describe purchasing and extending the entitlement; they should not be interpreted as confirmation of automatic recurring billing. Check the retail Subscription interface for the applicable payment and renewal conditions.

Founder's Packs Already Include a Month

All three current Founder's Pack tiers include one 30-day Special Quai Membership grant. NC added this benefit retroactively, so it also applies to qualifying packs purchased before the revision. Standard, Deluxe and Ultimate provide the same September 30–October 4 Advanced Access period and the same Membership duration. Higher tiers add their specified appearance items and collectibles, not additional early-access days or extra Membership months. Because standalone Membership sales are scheduled for October 5, the included grant is particularly relevant during Advanced Access. Check the correct server and activation prompt before starting its benefit period.

AION 2 Free Account vs Membership: What Can You Actually Do?

NC's August Membership specification provides a more detailed distinction than its earlier general description of Market access. In particular, it separates listing an item for sale from purchasing another player's listing. The comparison below follows that later product information and incorporates the September removal of direct player-to-player trading. Since the Launch Scale Test did not enable the payment or Market systems, the final transaction permissions must still be checked against the retail Global client.

Cross-Server MarketNo buying or selling under the published Membership permissions.Buying and selling once the feature becomes available. It is not scheduled to open at launch.
Kina/Quna ExchangeUnavailable.Available under the applicable Exchange and transaction rules.
Direct player-to-player tradingDisabled for Global. Also disabled under NC's September 18 decision, despite appearing in older Membership descriptions.

Full-server login queueGeneral queue.Priority queue for eligible members in good standing, without guaranteed immediate entry.

The August Membership specifications and NC's September 18 post-test announcement must be read together. The newer anti-bot policy supersedes the older Personal Trading benefit. Direct trading should therefore not be counted as an available Membership feature at Global launch.

AION 2 Marketplace Rules for Free Players and Subscribers

The player-driven Market allows eligible items to be listed and purchased using Kina, with asking prices determined by players. It is separate from selling items to NPC merchants and from exchanging Kina for Quna. Three actions matter when evaluating Membership: listing an item, purchasing a listing and accessing the broader Cross-Server Market. These permissions should not be treated as identical.

Can Free Players Sell Items on the Server Market?

According to NC's August Membership comparison, a player without Membership can list eligible items on the local Server Market but cannot buy another player's listing. A subscribed player receives both permissions. This distinction updates the less detailed earlier description that Market trading requires Membership. It does not mean every item can be sold: binding restrictions, eligible categories and the Market's transaction rules still apply. Listing an item also does not guarantee a completed sale or immediate Kina income. The final Global interface should be used to verify fees, settlement conditions and item eligibility.

Server Market vs Cross-Server Market at Launch

NC's Early Access policy schedules the Server Market to operate from the beginning of September 30 Advanced Access. This Market serves its individual world. The broader Cross-Server Market is not scheduled to open during Advanced Access or at the October 5 public release. NC intends to introduce it after participating worlds reach a sufficiently comparable progression stage. Cross-server dungeon matchmaking does not automatically create a shared Market, and Korean or Taiwanese prices should not be treated as Global launch prices. See the official Early Access and Market rollout notice.

Can You Trade Directly With Friends?

Not under the latest announced Global policy. On September 18, NC confirmed that direct player-to-player trading would be disabled as an anti-bot measure, leaving the Market as the central player-trading system. This decision supersedes the limited Personal Trading feature previously advertised as part of Special Quai Membership. Players should not rely on a private trade window for guild equipment transfers, Kina handovers or other direct exchanges. NC has not established a general alternative through mail or a guaranteed private Market listing reserved for a specific recipient.

Kina, Quna and the Kina/Quna Exchange Explained

AION 2 Global distinguishes gameplay currency from premium currency. The Market and the Exchange perform different functions: the Market transfers eligible items between players for Kina, while the Exchange connects players who want to trade Kina and Quna. Neither should be described as a guaranteed fixed-rate currency conversion service operated directly by NC.

Currency and transaction types
NameSource or function in NC's published modelImportant limitation
KinaMain gameplay currency, earned through regular activities and used for player Market transactions. An asking price is not guaranteed income. Spending and transaction rules depend on the applicable currency balance.
QunaPremium currency purchased with money or obtained from another player through the Exchange.Exchange access requires Membership. Global package prices and actual conversion rates require live verification.
Kina/Quna ExchangeA player offers Kina and another player exchanges Quna for it.Membership access is required. Exchange rates depend on player supply and demand, not a guaranteed fixed Global rate.
Kina (Bound)A separate currency balance introduced through Korean economy changes. Its regional earning and spending rules must not be assumed to apply unchanged to the initial Global economy.

NC's July Global business-model announcement describes a player-driven Exchange. Players can use Quna to acquire Kina offered by another player, while eligible accounts can offer earned Kina in exchange for Quna. This connects real-money premium currency to the gameplay economy, but it does not establish unlimited transactions, a fixed conversion rate or Exchange access without Membership. The Korean currency and economy update provides regional context only and should not be used as a substitute for the final Global rules.

What Membership Changes Beyond the Marketplace

Special Quai Membership provides more than economic access. The published benefit list includes Remote Storage, additional access to Wind Breeze Merchants, increased Odyle Energy maximum capacity and expanded reward-selection opportunities involving Odyle Energy Cubes in eligible Expedition, Transcendence and Sanctuary content. NC's detailed comparison distinguishes the normal reward-selection opportunity from the additional opportunity provided through Membership. It does not mean that subscribers automatically receive every available dungeon reward or that Membership guarantees specific boss drops.

NC's September queue-policy revision also grants eligible members in good standing access to a priority queue when a server is full. Both priority and general queues continue to depend on available server capacity. Priority status can be revoked for accounts affected by enforcement action, and it never guarantees immediate entry.

These benefits can influence how frequently subscribed players access eligible reward opportunities, but they should not be converted into an invented percentage increase in loot, a guaranteed boss reward or a fixed amount of additional Kina. The September Launch Scale Test disabled Membership, the Marketplace, the Quna Exchange and the payment systems, so it could not establish a reliable retail comparison of subscribed and unsubscribed economic progression.

Cash Shop, Cosmetics and the Daeva Pass

AION 2 has additional optional purchases beyond Membership. NC's announced shop categories include cosmetic outfits, wing appearances, pets, weapon skins and accessories, alongside consumables such as potions and resurrection supplies. According to NC's stated policy, purchased cosmetics provide no combat advantage, while the consumables available through the shop can also be earned through gameplay and are not intended to affect long-term equipment progression. These are the publisher's announced design principles, not independently verified results from the final Global economy.

Daeva Passes are described as per-character reward products. The Standard reward track is available without purchasing the Premium track, while the optional Premium track is unlocked using Quna. NC's business-model announcement identifies cosmetics, items, upgrade materials and additional currencies among potential pass rewards. Consequently, it would be inaccurate to describe every Premium Daeva Pass reward as cosmetic. Exact Global contents, duration and Quna pricing should be checked when the retail shop becomes available rather than copied from Korean or Taiwanese versions.

Can Spending Money Increase Your Purchasing Power?

Yes, the announced Exchange provides a mechanism through which Quna purchased with real money can be exchanged for Kina offered by other players, provided the account has the required Membership access. This creates a potential economic advantage in purchasing power. Its actual effect on character progression depends on which items are tradeable, the Global economy, available crafting and equipment systems, transaction limits and player-driven exchange rates. NC's stated cosmetic-shop policy does not remove the economic implications of the Exchange. However, the full practical impact cannot be established from a Launch Scale Test in which the payment and Market systems were disabled.

Starting Global for $0, With Membership or With a Founder's Pack

The relevant difference is when you want to begin playing and which optional account benefits you intend to use. A Founder's Pack is a pre-launch bundle providing earlier access and included items. Membership is a separate timed entitlement tied to economic permissions, convenience functions and selected reward benefits. Neither changes the free-to-play entry price of the October 5 public release.

  • Public free start: begin on October 5 without purchasing the game, earn Kina through gameplay and use the nonmember permissions available in the retail Global client.
  • Standalone Membership: the published $15 product grants 30 days of benefits and is scheduled for sale from October 5. Check the selected server and activate it when you intend to use its features.
  • Founder start: Standard ($24.99), Deluxe ($49.99) and Ultimate ($99.99) all provide September 30 Advanced Access and one 30-day Special Quai Membership grant. Higher tiers add their listed appearance items and collectibles.

NC's official Founder's Pack listing contains the cumulative package contents and applicable store prices. Purchasing Ultimate does not grant additional early-access days, a longer Membership period or a separate higher Membership tier.

AION 2 Free-to-Play FAQ

The following questions cover additional account and payment consequences that are not fully resolved by the basic pricing comparison.

Can I farm Kina, exchange it for Quna and use that to obtain Membership for free?
The published Exchange allows eligible players to exchange earned Kina for Quna offered by another player, but accessing the Exchange itself requires Membership. NC lists Special Quai as a separate $15 product. The existence of the Exchange does not establish an official way to purchase or renew that Membership using Kina or exchanged Quna. Do not assume a self-funding subscription system without an explicitly supported retail purchase option.

Does one Membership cover my characters on different Global servers?
NC's published product terms apply Membership benefits to characters on the server where the entitlement was purchased. Multiple characters on that same server are not equivalent to characters on different worlds. Check the selected server before activating Membership, particularly if you intend to maintain characters on both Advanced Access and Launch worlds.

What happens to unsold Market listings when Membership expires?
The published nonmember comparison permits eligible listings on the local Server Market even without active Membership. However, the available pre-launch notices do not establish every detail concerning listing expiration, proceeds collection or item-return handling. These conditions should be checked directly in the retail Market interface. Membership expiration should not be described as automatically destroying listed items or guaranteeing that every pending transaction remains unchanged.

Conclusion

AION 2 Global has a free entry price but different economic permissions for nonmembers and Special Quai subscribers. The latest published rules distinguish selling from buying on the Server Market, restrict access to the Kina/Quna Exchange and remove direct player-to-player trading. The separate Cross-Server Market is also scheduled for a later rollout. Players can therefore plan their initial spending around the confirmed access dates and published Membership benefits while treating final transaction details as subject to verification when the Global retail economy opens.
