Manastones are one of AION 2's main endgame equipment optimization systems. They add randomized stat lines to weapons and armor, while the equivalent stones used on accessories are called Soulstones.
The important rule for Global is not to waste your best stones too early. Manastones and Soulstones do not carry over through normal Gear Transfer, so Superior stones are much more valuable on equipment you expect to keep.
Quick answer: use cheap Lesser or Intermediate stones while progressing, save Superior stones for long-term Unique gear, and prioritize useful damage lines or the Accuracy / survival stat your build actually needs. Do not chase four perfect lines on temporary gear.
What Are Manastones in AION 2?
Manastones add extra randomized stats to compatible weapons and armor.
AION 2 separates the stone systems by equipment type:
| Stone | Used On | Main Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Manastone | Weapons and armor | Random combat-stat lines |
| Soulstone | Accessories | The accessory equivalent of Manastones |
| Abyssal Manastone / Soulstone | PvP-oriented gear | Adds PvP-related lines to the possible stat pool |
| Theostone | Eligible weapons / guards | Separate proc effect; not a normal Manastone stat line |
Do not confuse Manastones with Theostones. Manastones provide randomized stat lines. Theostones are a separate weapon-proc system.
How Many Manastone Slots Does Gear Have?
| Gear Grade | Base Stone Slots |
|---|---|
| Common | 1 |
| Rare | 2 |
| Epic | 3 |
| Unique | 4 |
Reaching 100% Soul Binding Rate on eligible gear can unlock an additional Manastone slot.
This is one reason long-term Unique equipment becomes much more valuable to optimize than temporary leveling pieces.
Manastone Tiers: Lesser, Intermediate and Superior
| Stone | Possible Line Grades | Best Use |
|---|---|---|
| Lesser Manastone | Common / Rare | Cheap early progression |
| Intermediate Manastone | Common / Rare / Epic | Temporary and mid-progress gear |
| Superior Manastone | Rare / Epic / Unique | Long-term Unique gear |
Only Superior stones reach the strongest Unique-quality outcomes and the premium Damage Boost family of lines.

View All Aion 2 ServicesWhat Stats Can Manastones Roll?
Normal Manastones can roll core stats such as:
- HP;
- MP;
- Attack;
- Defense;
- Accuracy Bonus;
- Evasion Bonus;
- Critical Hit;
- Critical Hit Resist;
- Block.
Superior Manastones additionally have access to premium offensive lines including:
- Damage Boost;
- Weapon Damage Boost;
- Critical Damage Boost;
- Front Attack Damage Boost;
- Back Attack Damage Boost.
Manastone Quality Colors and Item Level
| Line Grade | Common Community Color | Item Level Contribution |
|---|---|---|
| Common | Gray | +1 |
| Rare | Green | +2 |
| Epic | Blue | +3 |
| Unique | Yellow | +4 |
This is why even a non-perfect stone setup can help raise your Item Level while you progress through the first Level 45 content gates.
Superior Manastone Roll Odds
Superior non-Abyss stones use three quality bands for their possible lines.
| Quality Roll | Approx. Share |
|---|---|
| Lower quality result | 50% |
| Higher quality result | 35% |
| Top-quality result | 15% |
A top-quality result does not automatically mean the stat you want. The system first needs to roll the correct stat family and then the strongest value.
For example, current probability references put:
- a top-tier Attack line at roughly 1.5% per Superior stone;
- any premium Damage Boost line at any quality at roughly 2.5%;
- a specific top-tier premium damage line at a much lower probability.
Practical lesson: getting a yellow line is realistic. Getting four specific perfect yellow lines is an extremely expensive target and should not be the expectation for a normal Season 1 character.
Best Manastone Stats for PvE
There is no single correct line for every class, because positional uptime, Accuracy requirements and guaranteed-critical skills change the value of stats.
A useful general priority is:
usable positional Damage Boost → Weapon Damage Boost / Critical Damage Boost → Damage Boost → Attack → required Accuracy / Critical Hit.
Front vs Back Attack Damage Boost
Front and Back Attack Damage Boost only work while attacking from the required direction.
Do not choose Back Attack merely because a ranking calls it the highest theoretical DPS stat if your class or role spends most of the encounter elsewhere.
A tank fighting in front of the boss gets more practical value from Front Attack. Assassin is much more naturally suited to Back Attack. Other DPS classes should evaluate their real positional uptime.
Best Manastones by Class and Role
| Class / Role | Good Endgame Direction |
|---|---|
| Assassin | Back Attack Damage Boost → Weapon/Damage Boost → Attack → required Accuracy |
| Gladiator DPS | Useful positional boost → Weapon Damage Boost → Damage Boost → Attack |
| Templar tank | Required Accuracy / survival first; Front Attack or offensive boosts once tanking is stable |
| Ranger | Weapon Damage / Damage Boost → Attack → Accuracy / Critical Hit as needed |
| Sorcerer | Damage-oriented lines → Attack → Accuracy / Crit according to current build |
| Spiritmaster | Damage Boost / Attack with enough Accuracy for target content |
| Cleric | Damage lines for solo/DPS; HP, defensive or reliability stats for support progression when required |
| Chanter | Weapon/Damage Boost → Attack, with Accuracy and survival adjusted to content |
This table is a planning direction, not a requirement to reroll every piece until it contains exactly those lines.
When Should You Stop Rerolling?
This is where players can burn huge amounts of stones and Kina.
For most characters, a sensible stopping rule is:
- temporary gear — one or two usable green/blue lines is enough;
- early Unique gear — stop when the overall roll improves your build meaningfully;
- keeper gear — one strong Unique offensive line is already a good result;
- only chase multiple premium yellow lines when the piece is genuinely long-term and your other progression systems are already funded.
A perfect four-line item is not required to progress through normal Season 1 content.
Do Manastones Reroll All Slots?
Current Global player observations describe Manastone engraving as rerolling the stone lines on the item together rather than allowing you to permanently lock one good Manastone line and reroll only the others.
That makes aggressive perfection chasing expensive: a new roll can replace stats you already liked.
Always check the current Global engraving preview before confirming, especially after patches that may change the interface or rules.
What Are Abyssal Manastones?
Abyssal Manastones add PvP-oriented stats to the roll pool.
They can include PvP-related lines alongside many of the standard PvE lines.
For a dedicated PvP set, this gives access to stats that ordinary Manastones cannot provide.
For pure PvE equipment, however, the additional PvP possibilities also mean more possible outcomes competing with the PvE lines you want.

Where to Get Manastones
Global-client sources include several acquisition routes:
- monster drops;
- story and progression quests;
- achievements;
- Daeva Pass;
- Ascension Trial rewards;
- Transcendence rewards;
- Sanctuary / Ludra reward Cubes;
- Alchemy crafting;
- Abyss Shop for Abyssal stones.
Alchemy
Alchemy is the repeatable profession path for turning lower stones into stronger versions.
Current Global-client recipes include:
- Intermediate Manastone: crafted from Lesser Manastones plus profession materials;
- Superior Manastone: crafted later at higher Alchemy mastery using a large amount of Intermediate Manastones and additional materials.
See our AION 2 Professions Guide for Alchemy progression.
Should You Farm Lesser Manastones?
Lesser stones are useful because they feed your early progression and Alchemy chain.
They are not the stones you should spend large amounts of time rerolling on final gear.
If your objective is to reach the next Item Level threshold, cheap rolls can be enough. If your objective is endgame optimization, stockpile resources for Superior stones instead.
Manastones and Gear Transfer
Manastones do not transfer with normal Gear Transfer.
Enhancement and regular Soul Binding investment can move through eligible transfer paths, but Manastone engravings do not follow the item.
This is one of the most important reasons not to waste Superior stones on a weapon or armor piece that you expect to replace soon.
Our AION 2 Gear Progression Guide explains what does and does not survive Gear Transfer.
Manastones vs Soulstones
The systems are functionally related but apply to different item categories.
| Manastone | Weapons and armor |
| Soulstone | Accessories |
Superior Soulstones use the accessory version of the high-end random-stat system, so the same rule applies: save expensive rolls for accessories that have a long lifespan.
Common Manastone Mistakes
- Using Superior stones on temporary leveling gear.
- Assuming the stones survive Gear Transfer.
- Chasing four perfect yellow lines before fixing larger progression problems.
- Using Abyssal stones on PvE gear without needing PvP stats.
- Choosing Back Attack while rarely attacking from behind.
- Ignoring Accuracy because a damage line looks better on paper.
- Confusing Manastones, Soulstones and Theostones.
AION 2 Manastone FAQ
Where do Manastones go?
Weapons and armor. Accessories use Soulstones.
How many Manastone slots does Unique gear have?
Four base slots. Eligible gear can gain an additional slot after reaching the relevant Soul Binding requirement.
What is the best Manastone?
For endgame PvE, Superior Manastones are the main high-end choice because they can roll Unique-grade lines and premium damage stats.
Do Manastones transfer to new gear?
No through normal Gear Transfer.
Are Abyssal Manastones better?
For dedicated PvP gear they provide access to PvP stats. They are not automatically better for PvE.
Should I use Superior Manastones while leveling?
Usually no. Save them for longer-term equipment.
Conclusion
Manastones should be one of the later optimization steps on a piece of AION 2 gear. Use cheaper stones while your equipment changes rapidly, save Superior stones for keeper gear and stop once the cost of chasing another perfect line becomes larger than the practical benefit.
The most expensive mistake is not rolling a mediocre stat — it is spending rare stones on equipment you replace a day later.
