GTA 6 Weapons: Confirmed Guns, Loadouts & Weapon System

GTA 6 Weapons: Confirmed Guns, Loadouts & Weapon System

GTA 6 changes weapons far more than simply adding another large gun list. Rockstar has confirmed visible long-gun management, vehicle-trunk storage, Ammu-Nation weapon lockers, deeper customization, store-exclusive weapons, suppressive fire and a police system that can remember the weapon witnesses saw you carrying.

Last updated: October 1, 2026. This guide separates weapons explicitly named by Rockstar from guns identified in official footage by specialist databases. We do not treat leaked weapon lists or real-world visual matches as official GTA VI names.

For the wider combat, police and Crime Profile systems, see our GTA 6 gameplay guide. Vehicle trunks and mobile weapon storage are also covered in our GTA 6 cars and vehicles guide.

How Many Weapons Are in GTA 6?

Rockstar has not published a final number of weapons in GTA VI.

Specialist databases currently identify dozens of firearms, melee weapons and equipment items from Rockstar trailers, screenshots and the Extended Look. Some databases list more than 40 possible weapons.

That does not mean Rockstar has officially named more than 40 guns.

For this guide we use three evidence levels:

Evidence levelWhat it means
Officially NamedRockstar directly publishes the in-game weapon name.
Shown in Official MediaThe weapon clearly appears in a Rockstar trailer, screenshot or gameplay presentation.
Specialist IdentificationA weapon database identifies the gun from appearance, UI details or similarity to previous GTA weapons.

This distinction is especially important for GTA VI because many current “confirmed weapons” articles combine all three categories into one list.

Officially Named GTA 6 Weapons

Rockstar has publicly named a small number of weapons in current GTA VI edition material.

WeaponCharacter / availabilityWhat Rockstar confirms
Girardi ES9JasonJason's personalized pistol variant is included with the Ultimate Edition Upgrade
Klose K17LuciaLucia's personalized pistol variant is included with the Ultimate Edition Upgrade
Hawk & Little Morgan RevolversJason and LuciaHis-and-hers revolvers with Vice City styling, engraved details and a high-performance scope

Rockstar also offers an exclusive weapon pattern through the Vintage Vice City Pack and states that broader weapon customization has been expanded compared with previous entries.

Jason's Girardi ES9

The Girardi ES9 is Jason Duval's named sidearm.

Official Ultimate Edition artwork shows a personalized version engraved for Jason. The weapon is clearly differentiated from Lucia's pistol rather than both protagonists simply receiving identical handguns.

Rockstar has not yet published:

  • damage;
  • magazine capacity;
  • reload speed;
  • fire rate;
  • purchase price;
  • base-game unlock conditions;
  • complete attachment compatibility.

Any current numerical ES9 stats should therefore be treated as unofficial until the final game can be tested.

Lucia's Klose K17

The Klose K17 is Lucia Caminos' officially named pistol.

The personalized Ultimate Edition version uses a visibly different finish and engraving from Jason's ES9.

This matters because GTA VI appears to give its protagonists more identifiable personal equipment rather than treating every weapon as a completely anonymous inventory object.

Jason and Lucia receive visually distinct personalized versions of their sidearms.

Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers

The Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers are one of the clearest examples of GTA VI treating weapons as collectible equipment rather than generic gun pickups.

Rockstar describes them as matching versions for Jason and Lucia with:

  • classic Vice City styling;
  • palm-tree-etched grips;
  • engraved detailing;
  • personalized finishes;
  • a high-performance scope.

They are connected to the Vercetti Estate and become available through Ammu-Nation as Jason and Lucia's story progresses.

Weapons Seen in Official GTA 6 Footage

Beyond Rockstar's explicitly named weapons, trailers, screenshots and the Extended Look clearly show a much broader arsenal.

Specialist databases currently identify examples across the following classes:

ClassExamples identified from official mediaEvidence status
PistolsSeveral semi-automatic pistols and revolversOfficially shown; not every model name officially published
SMGsCompact SMGs, MP5-style weapon, MAC-style weaponOfficially shown / specialist identified
Assault riflesAK-style, AR-style and carbine-style riflesOfficially shown / specialist identified

Precision riflesBolt-action and semi-automatic rifle typesOfficially shown / specialist identified
Heavy weaponsGrenade launcher and other heavy ordnanceOfficially shown / specialist identified

We intentionally avoid converting every real-world resemblance into an official GTA VI weapon name.

GTA 6 Removes the Invisible Unlimited Arsenal

This is arguably the biggest weapon-system change Rockstar has revealed.

Long guns no longer disappear into an unlimited invisible inventory.

Rockstar North's Rob Nelson explained that rifles and other large firearms must be physically managed.

You can store owned weapons in:

  • Ammu-Nation weapon lockers;
  • your personal vehicle's trunk;
  • the trunk of a temporarily stolen vehicle while you continue using it.

Your personal car can be delivered to your position, effectively turning it into a mobile loadout locker.

This creates an actual preparation step before a dangerous mission or robbery.

Why the New Loadout System Matters

In GTA V, the player could carry an enormous arsenal with almost no practical cost.

GTA VI changes the decision from:

“Which weapon do I select from everything I own?”

to:

“Which weapons should I bring for what I am about to do?”

A quiet burglary may require a compact sidearm or no visible weapon at all. A larger score might justify retrieving a rifle or shotgun from the trunk first.

This makes weapon choice part of planning rather than only combat.

Ammu-Nation Returns

Ammu-Nation is confirmed to return in GTA VI.

Its role is broader than simply purchasing ammunition.

Rockstar says Ammu-Nation stores include weapon lockers where players can manage owned guns.

Rob Nelson also confirmed that:

  • there is a broad weapon selection;
  • some locations sell special weapons unique to that store;
  • weapon customization is more extensive than before.

This could make individual gun stores worth visiting rather than every Ammu-Nation carrying an identical inventory.

Weapon Customization Is Expanded

Rockstar has confirmed deeper gun customization, but the complete attachment system has not been revealed.

We already have official evidence for visual personalization and scopes, including the Ultimate Edition revolvers and protagonist-specific pistols.

What is still unknown includes the final availability of:

  • suppressors;
  • different optics;
  • extended magazines;
  • grips;
  • stocks;
  • flashlights;
  • lasers;
  • barrel modifications;
  • ammo conversions;
  • performance upgrades.

Some of these may appear in footage, but we will not mark them as a complete confirmed customization catalog until Rockstar or the final game verifies them.

Can You Store Weapons in Cars?

Yes.

Vehicle trunks are now part of the weapon inventory system.

You can store guns in:

  • your personal vehicle;
  • another vehicle you have temporarily kept;
  • Ammu-Nation lockers.

This makes the vehicle and weapon systems directly dependent on each other.

Read our GTA 6 vehicles guide for personal vehicle and garage mechanics.

Can You Drop a Weapon to Escape Police?

Yes, and this has an actual gameplay purpose.

GTA VI's police can receive witness descriptions that include the weapon used during a crime.

If you abandon that visible weapon while escaping, you remove one element that can connect you to the reported suspect.

Rockstar describes this as part of the wider Heat system, alongside changing clothing, removing masks and abandoning a known vehicle.

NPCs React to Visible Guns

Walking through Vice City with a gun drawn is no longer socially invisible.

Rockstar says pedestrians can:

  • move away from you;
  • become uncomfortable;
  • react aggressively;
  • potentially create additional police attention depending on the situation.

The important distinction is that simply owning a weapon does not cause automatic panic. The world reacts to what you visibly do with it.

Suppressive Fire: You Do Not Have to Shoot Everyone

Suppressive fire is a confirmed GTA VI mechanic.

Instead of directly shooting a civilian or police officer, the player can deliberately fire nearby to force people back, scare them or create time to escape.

This creates a middle option between surrendering and killing everybody in your path.

It also matters because excessive violence feeds into GTA VI's Crime Profile, which influences how the world responds to the player.

Weapons and the Crime Profile

The weapon system is tied to broader consequences.

Two players could complete the same robbery very differently:

ApproachPotential consequences
Quiet entry, cameras disabled, no visible weaponLower chance of witnesses identifying you
Threaten people but avoid shootingMore attention, but less violent escalation
Use suppressive fire to escapeCreate space without intentionally killing people
Openly carry a rifle before the robberyPeople may notice and react before the crime begins
Kill civilians and policeMore severe response and a more violent Crime Profile

This is why weapon choice now matters outside of damage-per-second calculations.

Can You Use Weapons During Vehicle Chases?

Yes. Official footage shows Jason and Lucia using firearms during vehicle sequences.

The Extended Look includes a chase where control shifts between the protagonists while gunfire continues from the vehicle.

Rockstar has not yet published the complete rules for:

  • which weapon classes can be fired from cars;
  • whether long guns can be used from every seat;
  • aiming limitations;
  • vehicle-specific weapon restrictions.

Weapon Lockers in Garages and Safehouses

Weapon storage is not limited to Ammu-Nation.

Rockstar's edition material confirms weapon lockers at locations including certain garages.

That means a garage can function as more than vehicle storage. It can become a preparation point where the player adjusts the loadout before a job.

Vintage Vice City Weapon Pattern

The Vintage Vice City Pack includes an exclusive weapon pattern inspired by Vice City's classic visual style.

The important SEO distinction is that this is a cosmetic weapon pattern, not a unique high-damage gun.

It should therefore not be confused with the actual Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers included in Ultimate Edition.

For the full difference between Standard, Ultimate and pre-order bonuses, see our GTA 6 editions comparison.

What About Ammo?

Official footage confirms ammunition remains a managed resource, but Rockstar has not yet published a complete GTA VI ammo taxonomy.

Specialist databases currently identify ammunition categories associated with pistols, shotguns, heavier weapons and other classes, but exact capacities and carrying limits are not yet reliable enough for a final database.

After launch, we will track:

  • ammo type;
  • maximum carried ammunition;
  • magazine capacity;
  • purchase cost;
  • weapon compatibility;
  • special ammunition if present.

Melee Weapons

Official material shows that melee combat remains part of GTA VI.

Weapons and tools identified in official footage include objects such as bats, knives, hammers and other close-range items.

We are not yet assigning final damage, durability or special-effect ratings because Rockstar has not released those values.

Are There Non-Lethal Weapons?

GTA VI clearly supports non-lethal approaches through mechanics such as suppressive fire and intimidation.

Specialist weapon databases also identify stun-type equipment in available material, but Rockstar has not yet published a complete official list of non-lethal weapons.

For now, the safest confirmed conclusion is that combat encounters give players more options than simply shooting every target.

Can Jason and Lucia Use the Same Weapons?

Rockstar clearly gives Jason and Lucia personalized versions of certain weapons, but it has not published a comprehensive rule stating whether every weapon can be freely transferred between both protagonists.

The shared storage systems make loadout management important, but protagonist-specific restrictions remain unknown.

Will GTA 6 Have a Weapon Wheel?

A radial weapon-selection interface appears in official footage.

The major difference is that the wheel no longer implies that every owned long gun is physically present on the protagonist at all times.

The final wheel layout, equipment slots and category structure may still change before release.

What Are the Best Weapons in GTA 6?

It is too early to rank them responsibly.

No final verified dataset exists yet for:

  • damage;
  • headshot multiplier;
  • fire rate;
  • range;
  • accuracy;
  • recoil;
  • reload speed;
  • ammo economy;
  • concealability;
  • availability.

And in GTA VI, “best” may depend heavily on the situation.

A rifle could dominate an open firefight but be a poor choice for entering a store without alarming witnesses.

Our future Best GTA 6 Weapons guide will rank weapons by use case after launch rather than pretending raw damage is the only metric.

No. Large firearms must be physically managed rather than disappearing into an unlimited hidden inventory.

Where are weapons stored?

Owned weapons can be managed through Ammu-Nation lockers and vehicle trunks.

Can you store guns in stolen cars?

Yes. Rockstar says weapons can remain in the trunk of a temporary stolen vehicle while you retain that vehicle.

Can you customize guns?

Yes. Rockstar says weapon customization is broader than in previous entries, although the full attachment list is not yet public.

Does Ammu-Nation return?

Yes. Ammu-Nation returns with weapon lockers, a broad inventory and some store-specific weapons.

What is suppressive fire?

It lets you deliberately fire near people to scare or hold them back, creating an escape opportunity without necessarily shooting them directly.

Do NPCs react if you carry a gun?

Yes. Visible firearms can make pedestrians avoid you or react differently.
