Wizards of the Coast and Blizzard Entertainment revealed Dungeons and Dragons World of Warcraft on July 30, 2026, during Gen Con. It is the first announced release in the new Dungeons and Dragons Universes Beyond crossover line. The collaboration converts Azeroth into a 256 page tabletop gameplay expansion for the current Dungeons and Dragons rules. It includes character options, campaign systems, creatures, factions, dungeon material, and a separately sold Icecrown Citadel adventure. It is not a World of Warcraft expansion, patch, raid season, or limited time event inside the MMO.
Preorders are open, digital access for eligible Dungeons and Dragons Beyond Master Tier owners begins on November 3, 2026, and the general release is scheduled for November 17, 2026. This November 3 access concerns the digital tabletop book, not an early access version of World of Warcraft. The dates, product formats, and announced contents are confirmed in the official Blizzard overview.
What the World of Warcraft Collaboration Includes
The core release is a gameplay expansion built on the Player's Handbook. The official Marketplace labels it for the revised fifth edition rules introduced in 2024. It does not replace the normal Dungeons and Dragons system with the combat engine from the MMO. Instead, it uses existing tabletop classes as foundations and adds new subclasses, revised subclasses, conversion guidance, spells, species, professions, monsters, factions, and ready to run dungeon material that reproduce recognizable Warcraft character fantasies.
| Product | Main purpose | Confirmed format |
|---|---|---|
| Dungeons and Dragons World of Warcraft Gameplay Expansion | Character creation, Azeroth campaign rules, monsters, factions, magic, professions, and seven dungeons with adventure hooks | Digital, physical, or a combined digital and physical purchase |
| Icecrown Citadel Adventure Map Pack | A complete high level adventure through Icecrown Citadel with encounter maps, tokens, bosses, and additional magic items | Digital adventure or physical map pack with a digital adventure code |
| World of Warcraft Dungeon Master's Screen | Table reference for faction renown, encounters, and combat with Azeroth artwork on the player facing side | Physical four panel screen |
The gameplay expansion is the broad campaign toolkit. The Icecrown product is a separate adventure for characters from level 16 through level 20, so buying the core book does not automatically mean the group owns the complete Icecrown campaign. The screen is also a separate physical accessory unless it is obtained through one of the larger bundles.
Release Date Digital Access and Languages
The announced worldwide release date is November 17, 2026. Dungeons and Dragons Beyond lists Master Tier early access from November 3. The same date is also connected to early availability of most Collector's Edition books through participating local game stores. A Master Tier subscription does not make the expansion free. Early digital access applies to an eligible account that owns the content.
| Date | Release milestone |

| July 30, 2026 | Official reveal and the opening of preorders |
| November 3, 2026 | Master Tier early access on Dungeons and Dragons Beyond and early local store availability for most Collector's Edition copies |
| November 17, 2026 | General release of the gameplay expansion and Icecrown Citadel Adventure Map Pack |

The initial product listings are in English. Wizards of the Coast has confirmed the four localized editions for 2027 but has not announced individual release days for them. Prices, shipping options, retailer stock, and preorder gifts can differ by country.

Character Options and Progression Systems

The core book treats character identity as a combination of a Dungeons and Dragons class foundation, Warcraft inspired options, species rules, faction standing, magic, and downtime professions. The confirmed material is broad enough to support both conversions of existing WoW characters and original heroes created specifically for a tabletop campaign.
World of Warcraft Classes and Subclasses
The book provides a tabletop route to all 13 classes currently represented in World of Warcraft: Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Druid, Evoker, Hunter, Mage, Monk, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, and Warrior. These are class interpretations that use Player's Handbook classes and the expansion's added rules. They are not 13 completely separate base classes added to Dungeons and Dragons.
More than 40 World of Warcraft specializations are represented through suggested options, alterations, and build guidance. Six subclasses are new, and three existing subclasses receive updated versions for this setting.
| Subclass type | Subclass | Base class |
|---|---|---|
| New | Oath of the Ebon Blade | Paladin |
| New | Oath of the Holy | Paladin |
| New | Demon Hunter | Ranger |
| New | Shadow Domain | Cleric |
| New | Discipline Domain | Cleric |
| New | Path of the Elements | Barbarian |
| Updated | Swashbuckler | Rogue |
| Updated | Path of the Spiritual Guardian | Barbarian |
| Updated | Warrior of Mystic Brews | Monk |
The final mechanical details of those subclasses and every specialization path have not been released publicly. The confirmed structure shows that the book translates the identity of WoW classes into Dungeons and Dragons rather than copying MMO rotations, talent trees, cooldowns, and numerical balance directly.
Playable Species and Faction Origins
The expansion supports 16 species in total. Eleven receive new species rules: Dracthyr, Draenei, Earthen, Forsaken, Haranir, Mechagnome, Pandaren, Tauren, Troll, Vulpera, and Worgen. Five existing Dungeons and Dragons species receive World of Warcraft mapping rules: Dwarf, Elf, Goblin, Human, and Orc.
This approach lets the book cover a wider range of Azeroth characters without publishing every cultural or visual variation as an unrelated species. The official preview also confirms that a species choice can provide a starting Renown Score with an Azeroth faction. Allegiance can therefore influence a character mechanically from the beginning of a campaign instead of existing only as background text.
The complete traits, lineage choices, faction associations, and balance details have not yet been shown. Claims about exact racial abilities or which elf and dwarf groups receive separate rules remain unconfirmed until the book or a detailed rules preview becomes available.
Spells Magic Items Mounts and Professions
Dungeons and Dragons World of Warcraft contains at least 60 new spells. Confirmed examples include Rune Strike, Demon Spikes, and Moonfire. The detailed official overview lists at least 25 magic items, while newer promotional summaries advertise at least 30. Mounts and companion creatures are included in this tabletop item pool rather than transferred automatically to a World of Warcraft account.
Professions are a new campaign mechanic in this product. Players can use more than ten professions during downtime to craft equipment, work on devices and trinkets, and prepare upgrades between adventures. This creates a tabletop counterpart to one of WoW's core progression systems without requiring a computer, an online server, or an MMO character.
Wizards of the Coast and Blizzard have not published the full spell list, the complete item catalog, or the names and rules of every profession. Because official summaries currently use different minimum totals for magic items, the safe confirmed figure is at least 25 in the core expansion. Specific recipes, crafting costs, profession advancement, and item rarities should not be treated as known before a full rules preview or release.
Monsters Dungeon Bosses and Factions
Dungeon Masters receive at least 50 new monster stat blocks and 30 dungeon boss stat blocks. Official previews specifically mention satyrs, murlocs, and voidwalkers alongside the larger dungeon enemies. No complete bestiary list has been released, so individual creature statistics circulating outside official previews should not be assumed to be final.
Seven Warcraft locations have been rebuilt as tabletop dungeons:
- Azjol-Nerub
- Blackfathom Deeps
- Deadmines
- Dire Maul
- Onyxia's Lair
- Scarlet Monastery
- Shadowfang Keep
Each of the seven locations includes boss content and adventure hooks that a Dungeon Master can use to start a quest. The Icecrown Citadel campaign is not included among these seven entries because it is sold as a separate high level adventure.
The core expansion also uses the Renown rules from the Dungeon Master's Guide for Azeroth organizations. The current standard product listing specifies 23 factions. Reputation can provide practical and narrative benefits such as allies, passage through hostile territory, and privileges earned from an organization. A party can pursue smaller groups for limited support or commit more heavily to a major cause.
Some official promotional pages use rounded or inconsistent totals for factions and magic items. The standard Dungeons and Dragons Beyond product listing currently gives the clearest fixed faction count of 23, while broader descriptions say more than 20. The publisher may correct or expand those marketing totals before release.
Icecrown Citadel Adventure Details

The Icecrown Citadel Adventure Map Pack turns the raid into a high level tabletop campaign that progresses from the Lower Spire to the Frozen Throne. It is written for levels 16 through 20 and is divided into five chapters with ten maps and ten boss encounters. This is the announced route for a party that wants a structured confrontation with the Lich King's forces rather than using only the campaign tools in the core expansion.
| Component | Confirmed contents |
|---|---|
| Physical maps | Five double sided poster maps measuring 22 by 30 inches and covering ten major encounters |
| Tokens | Two sheets for placing the Lich King's forces on the maps |
| Digital adventure | Five chapters for levels 16 through 20 with ten maps and ten boss encounters |
| Additional items | Sixteen magic items including Frostmourne, Invincible, and Bone Warden's Splitter |
| Digital progression | Boss defeat unlocks advertised for the digital version |
The physical map pack includes a code for the digital adventure. Ordering the physical version does not grant immediate use of the unreleased digital adventure. The digital only edition includes the adventure and its 16 items but does not include the poster maps or physical token sheets.
Gameplay Expansion Editions Bundles and Prices
The United States Dungeons and Dragons Beyond storefront currently lists several ways to buy the release. These are preorder prices shown on August 1, 2026. Taxes, shipping, currency conversion, regional storefronts, later discounts, and retailer pricing can change the final cost.
| Option | Listed price | Contents |
|---|---|---|
| Gameplay Expansion digital | 39.99 US dollars | Digital core expansion on Dungeons and Dragons Beyond |
| Gameplay Expansion physical | 59.99 US dollars | Standard physical core book |
| Gameplay Expansion digital and physical | 79.99 US dollars | Standard physical book plus the digital expansion |
| Icecrown Citadel digital | 19.99 US dollars | Digital adventure and its additional game content |
| Icecrown Citadel physical map pack | 29.99 US dollars | Poster maps, token sheets, and a code for the digital adventure |
| Dungeon Master's Screen | 24.99 US dollars | Physical four panel screen |
| Ultimate Bundle | 124.99 US dollars | Digital and physical core expansion, physical Icecrown map pack with digital adventure, physical screen, and eligible preorder bonuses |
| Collector's Edition Ultimate Bundle | 144.99 US dollars | Limited physical Collector's Edition, digital core expansion, physical Icecrown map pack with digital adventure, physical screen, and eligible preorder bonuses |
The Collector's Edition replaces the standard physical book with a limited print version in a slipcase. Its foil and sculpted treatments represent two iconic Warcraft factions. The standard Ultimate Bundle uses the regular physical cover and currently advertises a saving compared with purchasing each included component separately.
Three physical cover treatments have been announced. The traditional cover is sold through normal Dungeons and Dragons retailers. The Neon Ink alternate cover is exclusive to local game stores. The Collector's Edition can be preordered through Dungeons and Dragons Beyond and the official United Kingdom and European Dungeons and Dragons stores as part of its bundle, with most remaining copies planned for local game stores from November 3.
Preorder Bonuses and World of Warcraft Items
The collaboration does include a small set of modern World of Warcraft account items, but they are purchase bonuses rather than the central product or a new in game event. The tabletop material works without World of Warcraft. Only redemption of the MMO item code requires a Battle.net account, a World of Warcraft license, and an active subscription.
The digital preorder package contains the Icy Throne Digital Dice Set, Horde and Alliance character sheet backgrounds and frames, the Dungeon Masters World of Warcraft Play Along Pack, and the Dungeons and Dragons Encounters Season of Champions mini adventure. The Icy Throne dice are also offered with an Icecrown Citadel Map Pack preorder.
Eligible physical and digital packages add a code for four items in modern World of Warcraft:
- Black Dragon Mount
- Gazer pet
- Mimic Chest toy
- Mimic Chest decor
These four items are not compatible with World of Warcraft Classic. For a physical and digital Gameplay Expansion purchase or the standard Ultimate Bundle ordered through Dungeons and Dragons Beyond, the code is scheduled to arrive by email when the product releases. The Collector's Edition Ultimate Bundle and the Neon Ink alternate cover provide the code on an insert inside the sealed book.
A Murloc promotional miniature is guaranteed with the Collector's Edition Ultimate Bundle purchased through Dungeons and Dragons Beyond. It is available with the standard Ultimate Bundle only while supplies last. United Kingdom and European store terms limit it to Collector's Edition Ultimate Bundle preorders while supplies last. Participating game stores in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Pacific regions may have limited miniatures for customers who buy a gameplay expansion edition with at least one accessory.
Official World of Warcraft Actual Play Campaign
The official Dungeons and Dragons World of Warcraft page confirms that the Dungeon Masters actual play series will begin an Azeroth campaign on September 23, 2026. Jasmine Bhullar is the Dungeon Master for a party featuring Neil Newbon, Devora Wilde, Christian Navarro, and Mayanna Berrin, with Theo Solomon appearing as a special guest.
Episodes are scheduled for Wednesdays at 6:30 PM Pacific Time on the official Dungeons and Dragons YouTube channel. The campaign will use material from the World of Warcraft expansion and provide previews of subclasses, spells, monsters, factions, and magic items before the book's general release. This streamed campaign is promotional tabletop play and is separate from both the Icecrown digital adventure and the World of Warcraft MMO.
What Players and Dungeon Masters Need to Know
The core book is designed around the current Player's Handbook and refers to the Dungeon Master's Guide Renown system, so it should be viewed as an expansion for the current tabletop rules rather than a fully independent game. A World of Warcraft account is not required to create characters, run the seven dungeons, use professions, or play the Icecrown adventure. The account and subscription requirements apply only to redemption of the optional MMO preorder items.
- Buy the core gameplay expansion for character rules, Azeroth campaign systems, seven dungeons, factions, and the main bestiary.
- Add the Icecrown product for a complete level 16 through 20 adventure and physical encounter materials if the map pack format is selected.
- Add the screen if the Dungeon Master wants the physical campaign reference and artwork.
- Choose a bundle when the group wants all three products and the associated preorder package.
- Do not choose an edition solely for MMO items without checking the code format, region, subscription requirement, and stock conditions.
No official announcement currently describes a matching questline, dungeon, raid, limited time event, or gameplay update inside World of Warcraft. The only confirmed MMO component is the set of four preorder items tied to qualifying purchases. The full rules for every subclass, species, profession, spell, monster, boss, faction, and magic item also remain unrevealed, so unofficial mechanical claims should be treated as speculation.
Conclusion
Dungeons and Dragons World of Warcraft is large enough to support more than a single novelty session. The core expansion supplies the character and campaign framework, while Icecrown Citadel serves groups that want a defined high level objective and the accessories support physical table play. That separation is useful because a group can pay for the part it will actually use instead of treating the Collector's Edition as the default.
The strongest reason to watch this release is not the preorder merchandise. It is the attempt to make Azeroth playable as an open tabletop setting, where faction loyalty, profession work, dungeon routes, and character identity can change through player decisions rather than an MMO script. The November launch will determine how well the new rules hold together, but the announced scope already makes this a full campaign expansion rather than a cosmetic crossover.
