As of July 22, 2026, Ark Grid is a live Western Lost Ark endgame progression system. The correct starting priority is simple: unlock the system by using your first Core, equip a Core that matches your build, then process and activate Astrogems instead of chasing maximum rarity immediately. Cores define the available effects, while activated Astrogems provide Order or Chaos Core Points that unlock stronger Core Effect thresholds.
Ark Grid at a Glance
| System element | What it does |
|---|---|
| Cores | Provide the main Ark Grid effect and supply Willpower to connected Astrogem slots. |
| Astrogems | Use Willpower to activate combat effects and contribute Order or Chaos Core Points. |
| Willpower | Determines how many connected Astrogems activate around a Core. |
| Core Points | Unlock cumulative Core Effects at 10, 14, 17, 18, 19, and 20 points. |
| Processing | Changes an Astrogem’s option values and can improve each option up to five points. |
| Fusion | Combines three eligible Astrogems into one new Astrogem using Gold. |
The practical meaning of this table is that a high-rarity Astrogem is not automatically useful. It must have suitable options, enough Willpower for your Core, and enough Core Points to help you reach an important activation threshold.
What Is Ark Grid?
Ark Grid is a character-based progression system that adds static and class-specific combat effects to Tier 4 characters. It has two main components: Cores and Astrogems.
Cores are equipped into Core slots and determine the type of progression surrounding them. Astrogems are placed in the four connected slots beside each Core. When the Core provides enough Willpower, the Astrogems activate in order and contribute their combat effects and Core Points.
Ark Grid is applied per character. It does not function as a roster-wide setup, so each character must build and equip its own Cores and Astrogems. It is also not applied in content or regions that use special stat balancing.
The system can be used in the Trixion Training Room, where Ark Grid effects apply for testing. However, presets cannot be changed there, so use Trixion mainly to compare effects rather than to manage your final setup.

How to Unlock Ark Grid
- Obtain your first Core.
- Use the Core to register it to Ark Grid.
- Open the Ark Grid interface and equip the Core in an available slot.
- Process eligible Astrogems through the Ark Grid Specialist in a major city.
- Equip Astrogems in slots connected to a Core.
Ark Grid becomes available when you use your first obtained Core. The initial setup begins with six Core slots, and one Core slot unlocks when the system is first opened. One additional Core slot unlocks each weekly reset. The four Astrogem slots connected to a Core unlock alongside that Core slot.
This weekly slot progression means that a new Ark Grid character cannot immediately fill the complete layout. Do not delay unlocking the system while waiting for perfect items. Register the first usable Core, start collecting Astrogems, and improve the setup as additional slots become available.
Cores: Order, Chaos, and Rarity
Cores are divided into Order and Chaos types. Each type contains Sun, Moon, and Star subtypes, creating six Core categories in total.
- Order Cores: Class-specific Cores that provide effects designed around a particular class.
- Chaos Cores: Universal Cores that can be used by any class and provide general combat effects.
- Sun, Moon, and Star: Celestial subtypes with different effects within the Order or Chaos category.
Order Cores are usually the first priority for a character with an established class build because their effects are designed around that class. However, an Order Core is not automatically correct for every situation. Its effect must match your active build, and Order Core effects only apply when the corresponding Enlightenment Ark Passive is active.
Chaos Cores are more flexible. They can be useful while gearing a new character, testing different setups, or filling a character that has not yet obtained the correct class-specific Order Core.
Cores have four rarities: Epic, Legendary, Relic, and Ancient. Rarity matters, but it should not override compatibility. A lower-rarity Core with a useful effect and a well-activated Astrogem layout can be more valuable than a higher-rarity Core that does not support your build.
Only one Core of each type can be equipped within the Ark Grid. For example, you cannot equip two Cores of the same named type in the available layout.
How Willpower Activates Astrogems
Equipping a Core supplies Willpower to its Core slot. That Willpower flows into the four connected Astrogem slots, starting with the slot closest to the Core.
Astrogems activate sequentially. If a slot is empty or the Core does not provide enough Willpower for that Astrogem, that slot and every slot farther away remain inactive. Inactive Astrogems provide no combat effect and do not contribute Core Points.
For this reason, the position of an Astrogem matters. Put the most important Astrogems in the earliest slots that your Core can activate. Do not assume that filling all four slots creates four active effects.
Only Astrogems matching the Core’s type can be equipped. An Order Core accepts Order Astrogems, while a Chaos Core accepts Chaos Astrogems. You cannot mix the two types around the same Core.
Astrogem Types and Willpower Requirements
Astrogems are divided into Order and Chaos categories. Each category contains three subtypes with different Willpower requirements and combat options.
| Astrogem category | Subtype | Willpower required | General role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Order | Stable | 8 | Lower Willpower option for damage or support effects. |
| Order | Solidity | 9 | Middle-cost option with damage or party-enhancement effects. |
| Order | Eternal | 10 | Higher Willpower option with stronger specialized effects. |
| Chaos | Erosion | 8 | Lower Willpower option for general damage or support effects. |
The Western release information lists additional Chaos subtypes alongside Erosion. Choose them according to the effect and Willpower value shown on the item in your current client rather than relying on a generic rarity ranking.
For DPS characters, Astrogems can provide effects such as Damage, Additional Damage, and Boss Attack. For support characters, the available options can include Brand Power, Ally Damage Enhancement, Ally Damage, and Ally Attack Power Enhancement.
These effects are only active when the Astrogem itself is active. A strong option placed beyond your available Willpower is effectively doing nothing, so activation order is more important than visual item quality during early progression.
Core Points and Activation Thresholds
Activated Astrogems contribute either Order Core Points or Chaos Core Points. When the total reaches the required thresholds, additional Core Effects unlock.
The confirmed thresholds are:
- 10 Core Points
- 14 Core Points
- 17 Core Points
- 18 Core Points
- 19 Core Points
- 20 Core Points
These effects stack cumulatively. Reaching 20 points therefore includes the effects unlocked at the earlier thresholds, not only the final tier.
Your immediate goal should be the next meaningful threshold, not a theoretical perfect layout. If moving from 17 to 18 points activates a useful effect for your class, that upgrade may be more valuable than replacing several Astrogems simply to pursue a higher rarity.
Where to Get Cores and Astrogems
Cores
Cores can be obtained from Kazeros Raid Act 4 and Kazeros Raid Denouement. These activities are therefore central to long-term Core progression.
Astrogems
Astrogems can come from several Tier 4 activities:
- Kurzan Front Nefta Operations 1 and 2.
- Drextalas Guardian Raids.
- Krathios Guardian Raids.
- Auctions in Chaos Gates for characters at 1700 or higher item level.
- Crafting through the relevant new NPC.
- The weekly NPC purchase option, which has a weekly limit and can use bound Gold from Paradise.
The best source depends on what your character already does each week. Do not rebuild your entire routine around one Astrogem source unless it also advances your other progression goals. Guardian Raids, Kurzan Front operations, and Chaos Gates can remain part of a normal Tier 4 weekly plan while you accumulate items for processing and fusion.
Astrogem Processing
Astrogem Processing changes the options and option-point values applied to an Astrogem. It does not change the item’s Willpower Efficiency or its Order or Chaos Core Points.
Each option can be increased up to five points, and processing will not reduce an option below one point. Processing takes place through the Ark Grid Specialist NPC in major cities.
The number of times you can refresh potential outcomes depends on the Astrogem’s grade:
- Uncommon: Zero refreshes by default.
- Rare: One refresh by default.
- Epic: Two refreshes by default.
Processing is limited to the item’s available attempts. You can reset the processing result only while at least one processing attempt remains, and resetting consumes an Astrogem Processing Reset Ticket.
Use processing carefully on Astrogems that already have a compatible type, useful Willpower, and a realistic path to your next Core Point threshold. Processing every low-quality drop immediately is a common way to waste Gold and reset resources.
Astrogem Fusion
Astrogem Fusion combines three eligible Astrogems into one new Astrogem through the Ark Grid Specialist. The material Astrogems must either be processed or be items that still require processing. Items currently being processed cannot be fused.
Fusion is possible between Astrogems with the same processing status, even when their types or grades differ. The resulting Astrogem keeps the same processing status as the materials. Its grade is determined probabilistically, with higher-grade materials providing a better chance of a higher-grade result.
Fusion costs Gold. It also supports an option that automatically registers eligible Astrogems until all selected items have been used.
In the Western version, Astrogems are not tradeable and cannot be listed on the Auction House. When Astrogems are fused, there is a 50% chance of producing a roster-bound Astrogem. Roster-bound fusion results can be moved to another character on the roster, while character-bound Astrogems remain restricted to the character that owns them.
Roster-bound Astrogems use Silver for processing after they are used. Character-bound Astrogems require Gold for processing. This makes roster-bound results especially useful for transferring spare progression to an alt, but it is still better to fuse with a clear target than to burn every Astrogem as soon as it drops.
Ark Grid Progression Priorities
Priority 1: Unlock the system immediately
Use the first Core you obtain and open Ark Grid. The system’s weekly Core-slot unlocks make early access valuable even if your first setup is temporary.
Priority 2: Match the Core to your active build
Start with the Order Core that supports your class and current Enlightenment setup when one is available. Otherwise, use a compatible Chaos Core rather than leaving the system empty.
Priority 3: Activate Astrogems before chasing rarity
Place Astrogems in the closest available slots first. Check whether each one activates with the Core’s Willpower. A fully activated lower-grade item is generally more useful than an inactive high-grade item.
Priority 4: Reach the next Core Point breakpoint
Compare the effect gained at 10, 14, 17, 18, 19, or 20 points with the cost of changing your layout. Stop upgrading when the next replacement requires excessive Gold or sacrifices a stronger active combat option.
Priority 5: Process only promising items
Save processing resources for Astrogems with appropriate type, reasonable Willpower, and useful Core Point values. Do not treat every drop as a finished upgrade.
Priority 6: Fuse duplicates and weak leftovers
Use Fusion for surplus Astrogems that do not fit your current layout. Keep strong pieces for alternate Cores or alts until you are certain they cannot contribute to another character.
Priority 7: Improve Cores after the layout works
Once your Core activates the important Astrogems and reaches a useful threshold, then pursue higher-rarity Cores and more refined Astrogems. Ark Grid should be upgraded alongside your regular Tier 4 gear, Ark Passive, and raid progression rather than replacing them.
Recommended DPS and Support Approach
DPS characters should first look for Astrogem options that improve direct Damage, Additional Damage, or Boss Attack while preserving enough Willpower to activate the surrounding layout. Prioritize the threshold that improves your normal raid damage rather than selecting an item solely because it has the largest displayed number.
Support characters should compare Brand Power, Ally Damage Enhancement, Ally Damage, and Ally Attack Power Enhancement. A support setup may value party-wide effects more than personal damage, so the correct Astrogem depends on the role used in the current raid.
If you regularly switch between DPS and support presets, review the Ark Grid setup after changing roles. The Summer of Extremes update added Ark Grid information to Recommended Settings and support classes can set both support and DPS card presets, but you should still verify that the equipped Core and active Astrogems match the role you intend to play.
Common Ark Grid Mistakes
- Waiting for a perfect Core before unlocking Ark Grid: This delays weekly Core-slot progression.
- Equipping Astrogems without checking Willpower: Inactive slots provide no combat effect or Core Points.
- Mixing Order and Chaos Astrogems around one Core: Astrogems must match the Core’s type.
- Ignoring slot order: Willpower flows from the Core to the closest slots first.
- Chasing rarity instead of activation thresholds: A better grade does not help if the option is inactive or incompatible.
- Processing every drop: Gold and reset resources should be reserved for items with a realistic upgrade path.
- Fusing useful items too early: Keep flexible Astrogems until your main character and roster priorities are clear.
- Assuming Ark Grid applies everywhere: Special stat-balanced content and regions can disable the system.
- Forgetting the Enlightenment requirement: Order Core effects require the corresponding Ark Passive Enlightenment to be active.
When Ark Grid Help Is Worth Considering
Ark Grid progression is tied to several demanding Tier 4 activities, including Kazeros content, Guardian Raids, Kurzan Front operations, and high-level Chaos Gates. If your bottleneck is a difficult raid clear, missing weekly activity, or a character that is close to an item-level requirement, review the available Lost Ark progression and raid services only after checking the exact current requirements for your character.
For a broader route through honing, Tier 4 gear, Ark Passive, Advanced Honing, and Ark Grid, use the Lost Ark gear progression guide. Guardian Raids are also a direct Astrogem source, so the Lost Ark Guardian Raids service is relevant when Guardian access or weekly completion is the immediate obstacle.

FAQ
Is Ark Grid live in the Western version of Lost Ark?
Yes. Ark Grid is live in the Western version as of the July 2026 research date. The Western implementation includes non-tradeable Astrogems, roster-bound fusion results, and other adjustments intended to make progression less dependent on immediately perfect items.
Do Astrogems work without a Core?
No. A Core must be equipped before Astrogems can be equipped or activated. Astrogems also need sufficient Willpower from the connected Core.
Can I use Order Astrogems with a Chaos Core?
No. Astrogems must match the type of their equipped Core. Order Cores use Order Astrogems, and Chaos Cores use Chaos Astrogems.
Should I prioritize a higher-rarity Astrogem?
Not automatically. First prioritize compatibility, activation, Willpower, and the next Core Point threshold. Upgrade rarity after the item provides a real improvement to your active layout.
Are Western Astrogems tradeable?
No. Western Astrogems cannot be traded or listed on the Auction House. Fusion can produce roster-bound Astrogems, giving you a limited way to move progression between characters on the same roster.
