Need Help Progressing in Lost Ark?

Horizon Cathedral is currently live in the Western version of Lost Ark. It is a four-player Abyssal Dungeon in the Cadarum Isles, released on June 17, 2026, one week after the June 10 Twilight Isle update. The dungeon contains three stages with two gates each, uses shared entry counts across stages, and requires Item Level 1700, 1720, or 1750 depending on the stage. This guide explains how to enter, what to prepare, the main mechanics to learn, and which rewards make Horizon Cathedral worth adding to your weekly routine.

The practical meaning is simple: Horizon Cathedral is designed as a smaller-group endgame activity with several progression thresholds. You do not need to reach Item Level 1750 before entering. A character at 1700 can begin with Stage 1, while higher stages become available as the character progresses.

How to Unlock and Enter Horizon Cathedral

The original release required completion of the Cadarum Isles main quest, including “After the Resonance Stops.” The July 15, 2026 Summer of Extremes update removed that main-quest requirement. In the current Western version, Horizon Cathedral unlocks at Item Level 1700 or higher.

  1. Raise the character to Item Level 1700 or above.
  2. Open the Content Guide with Alt+Q, or locate the Horizon Cathedral entrance in a major city.
  3. Choose the available stage based on the character’s Item Level.
  4. Enter with a four-player party through matchmaking or Party Finder.

Stage 1 requires Item Level 1700, Stage 2 requires 1720, and Stage 3 requires 1750. These are entry thresholds, not recommendations for maximum efficiency. Meeting the requirement allows entry, but a character with weak gems, incomplete Ark Grid progression, poor engravings, or low survivability may still struggle in later stages.

How the Entry and Gate System Works

Horizon Cathedral has two gates in each of its three stages. Entry counts are shared across the stages, so players should plan their weekly attempts rather than treating every stage as a completely separate activity.

Gate progress is saved after rewards are claimed. When a gate is completed, the party can vote to continue or stop. If the party stops, the group can resume the saved progress later instead of restarting the entire stage.

The dungeon also has an unusual revival system. Individual players can revive repeatedly with a 10-second cooldown by using a Phoenix Plume or spending 10 Crystals. However, an entire-party wipe still fails the attempt. This makes Horizon Cathedral more forgiving than many traditional raids, but it does not remove the need to understand wipe mechanics and coordinated checks.

Do not confuse individual deaths with a full-party failure. A player who dies can return when the revival cooldown allows it, while a mechanic that kills the whole party must still be handled correctly.

Core Mechanics to Prepare For

Exact attack timings can vary by stage and difficulty, but the main Horizon Cathedral patterns revolve around crowd control, cleansing, color recognition, positioning, and coordinated survival. The dungeon is approachable once players understand the mechanic language, but blind attempts can still create unnecessary wipes.

Gate 1: Judgment and Purification Patterns

Gate 1 includes several mechanics associated with judgment, purification, and player control. The most important preparation is having a way to remove or prevent disabling effects when the boss restricts a character’s movement.

  • Watch for moments when players become restrained or otherwise unable to act.
  • Use the assigned cleansing item promptly instead of waiting for another player to solve the mechanic.
  • Keep enough space around the party so a control effect does not cause multiple players to fail together.
  • Save defensive tools for transitions and high-damage patterns rather than spending them on routine attacks.

Holy Charms are commonly recommended for Gate 1 because they help remove harmful control effects. A Sacred Bomb or similar support item can also be useful when the party needs additional cleansing or emergency utility. The exact battle-item assignment should be agreed on before entering.

Judgment and Color Recognition

Some Gate 1 patterns require players to identify visual indicators and respond to the correct target, area, or color. These checks are more dangerous when players stand too close together or move without a clear plan.

  1. Assign positions before the pull.
  2. Identify whether the mechanic uses player markers, colors, or arena locations.
  3. Move only after confirming your own assignment.
  4. Avoid crossing through another player’s position during the resolution window.

If your group is learning the dungeon, call out colors and positions clearly. A short voice call such as “blue left” or “marked outside” is usually more useful than several players moving independently.

Gate 2: Full Settlement and Survival Windows

Gate 2 includes the Full Settlement pattern, one of the mechanics that should be reviewed before the first pull. The party must respond to the boss’s sequence rather than treating the phase as a damage race.

During major patterns, prioritize survival and correct positioning over squeezing in one more skill. A failed group mechanic can end the attempt even though Horizon Cathedral allows individual revives. Save movement skills, push immunity, defensive cooldowns, and Time Stop Potions for situations where the normal response is missed or the arena becomes unsafe.

Time Stop Potions are especially useful while learning the dungeon, although they should not replace learning the intended mechanic. Once the group is comfortable, many players can replace emergency defensive options with offensive or mobility-focused battle items.

Character Setup

  • Use a complete endgame engraving setup rather than entering with temporary leveling engravings.
  • Check that gems, Ark Passive choices, Ark Grid cores, and accessories match the character’s current build.
  • Use the strongest available elemental card preset for the gate if the character has multiple deck options.
  • Bring enough healing potions for progression pulls, even though individual revives are available.
  • Review push-immunity and movement options in the class build before entering.

Horizon Cathedral does not require a special class composition in the official entry rules. A balanced party with reliable damage, support utility, stagger, counters, and cleansing is generally easier to coordinate than four characters focused only on damage.

Battle Items

Battle-item requirements can change with party strategy, but a practical learning setup includes the following:

  • Healing Potions: Keep them available for mistakes and unavoidable damage.
  • Holy Charms: Useful for cleansing control effects in Gate 1.
  • Sacred Bombs: Helpful when the group needs additional cleansing utility.
  • Time Stop Potions: Emergency protection for dangerous wipe-related situations while learning.
  • Dark Grenades: A reasonable damage option once the party is comfortable with the mechanics.

Do not automatically copy a battle-item list from a different raid. Horizon Cathedral’s smaller party size means every player’s utility matters more, and the correct assignment depends on the party’s classes and the stage being attempted.

Card Preparation

The May 2026 update added Wandering Merchant cards intended to help players complete several useful sets, including the Path of Light Card Set. The Western release notes specifically connected these card additions with preparation for Horizon Cathedral.

Use the card set that provides the best verified elemental and defensive benefit for the gate you are entering. If you have enabled multiple card presets, the current client can automatically apply a preset matching the content’s elemental weakness when configured correctly. Check the result before the pull instead of assuming the correct deck was equipped.

A Practical Learning Route

  1. Start with Stage 1. Do not rush toward Stage 3 simply because the character meets the Item Level requirement.
  2. Read the party lobby description. Confirm whether the group is learning, reclearing, or expecting a fast clear.
  3. Assign utility. Decide who carries cleansing items and who is responsible for counters or stagger support.
  4. Learn one gate at a time. Clear the first gate consistently before adding the second gate to the learning plan.
  5. Prioritize mechanic survival. Damage checks are less important than recognizing the pattern and staying alive through it.
  6. Claim rewards before leaving. Gate progress is saved after rewards are claimed, so do not exit before confirming the reward step.

For a first clear, a patient four-player group is usually more valuable than a high-damage lobby with unclear expectations. Horizon Cathedral’s revival system gives players room to recover from individual mistakes, but only if the party avoids a full wipe.

Horizon Cathedral Rewards

Horizon Cathedral shares weekly gold limits and bonus-reward counts with other endgame content. Its gold is Character-Bound Gold, not tradeable Gold or Roster-Bound Gold. This distinction matters when planning a roster’s weekly income because the rewards cannot be transferred freely to another character or sold through the market.

Stage and gateItem LevelCharacter-Bound Gold
Stage 1, Gate 1170013,500
Stage 1, Gate 2170016,500
Stage 2, Gate 1172016,000
Stage 2, Gate 2172024,000
Stage 3, Gate 1175020,000
Stage 3, Gate 2175030,000

The table shows the main progression decision: Stage 1 is accessible at 1700, but later stages provide higher gate rewards and better access to upper-end progression materials. The official release notes also list Graced Shards and Ark Grid Cores among the gate-clear rewards.

Graced Shards are used by the crafting NPC Deni in major cities, with a mirror available in Elgacia. Deni can exchange them for Relic and Ancient Ark Grid Core chests, Astrogem selection or random chests, and Horizon honing-material, Metallurgy, and Tailoring selection chests.

A first-clear reward is granted once per character regardless of stage. Bonus rewards through the View More option are available after clearing each gate, subject to the dungeon’s weekly reward rules.

What Should You Prioritize?

At Item Level 1700

Focus on learning Stage 1 mechanics and building a reliable weekly clear. Do not overinvest in expensive upgrades solely to enter Stage 2 if the character still lacks basic Ark Grid progression or consistent raid survival.

At Item Level 1720

Stage 2 becomes available. Compare its higher rewards with the time and group quality available in Party Finder. A clean Stage 1 clear is more useful than repeatedly failing Stage 2 because the character barely meets the threshold.

At Item Level 1750

Stage 3 becomes available and offers the highest listed Horizon Cathedral gate rewards. At this point, reliable consumable usage, correct card presets, and a stable weekly group become more important than small damage upgrades that do not improve mechanic consistency.

Common Mistakes

  • Assuming individual revives make the dungeon risk-free. A full-party wipe still fails the attempt.
  • Entering without cleansing utility. Gate 1 control patterns can become much harder when nobody carries the appropriate item.
  • Ignoring the lobby description. A learning group and a reclear group have different expectations.
  • Leaving before claiming rewards. Saved gate progress depends on the reward-claim step.
  • Using tradeable-gold expectations. Horizon Cathedral pays Character-Bound Gold.
  • Skipping the card preset check. Automatic deck selection is helpful only when the presets are configured correctly.
  • Attempting the highest stage immediately. Meeting the Item Level requirement does not guarantee sufficient damage, survivability, or mechanic knowledge.

Is Horizon Cathedral Worth Doing?

For characters at Item Level 1700 or higher, Horizon Cathedral is worth considering because it combines Character-Bound Gold with Graced Shards, Ark Grid Cores, and crafting access to additional Ark Grid, Astrogem, and honing resources. Its four-player format and individual revival system also make it less punishing to learn than many large-group raids.

Its value depends on your roster goals. Characters that still need Ark Grid or upper Tier 4 progression should prioritize consistent clears. Characters with limited weekly playtime should compare the bound-gold rewards and material gains against their other available endgame activities before adding extra stages.
