World of Warcraft: Midnight Season 2 is scheduled to begin one week after the launch of Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula’tek. Blizzard has confirmed the major structure of the season, including the Venomous Abyss raid, the Altar of Fangs dungeon, a new Mythic+ rotation, additional Delves, a new PvP season and more Prey content. As of July 17, 2026, Blizzard has not published a final public calendar with an exact Patch 12.1 release date or a confirmed regional launch time, so the reliable schedule is currently based on the confirmed one-week relationship between the patch and Season 2.

When does Midnight Season 2 start?
Midnight Season 2 starts one week after Patch 12.1: Curse of Ula’tek goes live. This means the patch and the season are separate milestones rather than a single launch event.
Patch 12.1 first introduces the Coiled Isle, new campaign chapters, outdoor activities, the Altar of Fangs on lower difficulties and the wider system updates connected to Curse of Ula’tek. One week later, Season 2 activates the seasonal end-game systems: the new raid, Mythic+, seasonal Delves, the new PvP season, additional Prey content and the higher seasonal progression structure.
Blizzard has not yet confirmed the exact date for either milestone. Any calendar date circulating before an official announcement should be treated as an estimate rather than a release date. The current PTR schedule confirms the order of events, but not the final regional launch hour.

What happens when Patch 12.1 launches?
Patch 12.1 is the content update that prepares the game world for Season 2. The central addition is the Coiled Isle, an area located off the east coast of Zul’Aman. The zone expands the Midnight campaign and combines outdoor progression, group events, Delves, Prey activities, rare enemies and several seasonal reward systems.
The patch also continues the story of Zul’jan and Zul’jarra. The campaign follows the pursuit through the Coiled Isle, explores the island’s buried history and reveals more about the forces connected to its poisonous waters and venomous creatures.
Altar of Fangs during the patch week
Altar of Fangs is a new three-boss dungeon located on the Coiled Isle. During the period between the Patch 12.1 launch and the beginning of Season 2, it is available up to Heroic difficulty. Mythic difficulty and Mythic+ access begin when Season 2 starts one week later.
This gives players an opportunity to learn the dungeon’s layout and encounters before the seasonal Mythic+ rotation begins. The final Mythic+ tuning, affixes and reward item levels require live confirmation.
Coiled Isle activities
The Coiled Isle is not only a questing zone. Its main systems include the Vaults of Atal’Utek, rotating public events, Curse Surges, rare enemies, Cursed Fishing, Prey activities and progression connected to Captain Tokka. The zone also contains the Altar of Corrosion and the resources associated with its powers.
Players should complete the introductory campaign before attempting to farm the zone’s progression systems. The campaign is expected to establish access to the island’s central activities and explain how its separate currencies and reward tracks interact.
When does the Venomous Abyss raid open?
The Venomous Abyss opens with Midnight Season 2, one week after Patch 12.1 launches. It is the main raid of the season and is separate from the smaller Lair content associated with the Coiled Isle.
Blizzard has confirmed the raid as part of the Season 2 launch package, but the final wing-by-wing opening schedule, difficulty availability and exact item-level structure have not yet been published in a final live schedule. Players should therefore distinguish between the confirmed raid launch and any unconfirmed dates for later wings or special difficulties.
The raid is expected to provide the primary raid path for Season 2 tier-set pieces, weapons, trinkets and other raid rewards. Raid encounters, loot tables and difficulty-specific item levels should be checked again after the live release before making gearing decisions.
Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ rotation
Season 2 introduces a new eight-dungeon Mythic+ rotation. The pool contains five Midnight dungeons and three returning dungeons from earlier expansions.
| Dungeon | Type |
|---|---|
| Altar of Fangs | New Midnight dungeon |
| Murder Row | Midnight dungeon |
| Den of Nalorakk | Midnight dungeon |
| The Blinding Vale | Midnight dungeon |
| Voidscar Arena | Midnight dungeon |
| King’s Rest | Returning Battle for Azeroth dungeon |
| Ruby Life Pools | Returning Dragonflight dungeon |
| Temple of Sethraliss | Returning Battle for Azeroth dungeon |
The four Midnight dungeons not used in Season 1 return alongside Altar of Fangs, while King’s Rest, Ruby Life Pools and Temple of Sethraliss form the legacy portion of the rotation. Mythic+ rewards, seasonal achievements and the Great Vault begin using the Season 2 structure when the season starts.
The dungeon pool is confirmed, but live difficulty rankings should not be published until the final mechanics and tuning are available. A dungeon that performs well on the PTR can change significantly before or shortly after launch.
Season 2 Delves and Nemesis content
Season 2 refreshes the Delve system with three new Coiled Isle Delves:
- The Ring of Glory
- Gnarldor Isle
- Venomfall Deeps
Venomfall Deeps is the new Nemesis Delve. Season 2 also introduces new snake- and venom-themed variants in existing Midnight Delves. Bountiful Delves and the seasonal Nemesis boss become available with the start of the season.
The new Delves are designed to support solo and small-group play. They contribute to seasonal progression and provide another route toward end-game equipment, but exact reward levels and upper-tier requirements should be verified against the live version.
Players who mainly play solo should complete the campaign and unlock the Delve systems during the patch week. This avoids spending the first Season 2 reset discovering basic access requirements instead of using the new Bountiful opportunities.
Season 2 Prey and Coiled Isle progression
Season 2 adds more Prey content, including new targets, affixes and Hunts connected to the Coiled Isle. Prey remains a separate activity from Delves, Mythic+ and raid progression, even though several systems may contribute to the same broader seasonal reward ecosystem.
The safest starting order is to unlock the Coiled Isle, complete its introductory campaign, open the central progression systems and then sample each activity before committing to a weekly routine. Do not assume that Corrosive Souls, Corrosive Coins, Altar of Corrosion powers, Captain Tokka reputation and Delver’s Journey progression are interchangeable.
How the Season 2 currencies and systems differ
| System or item | Role | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Corrosive Souls | Coiled Isle progression resource | Used within the zone’s progression ecosystem; do not treat it as the same resource as Corrosive Coins |
| Corrosive Coins | Separate Coiled Isle resource | Has its own acquisition sources and uses |
| Altar of Corrosion powers | Temporary or activity-related power choices | These are powers, not a general currency |
| Captain Tokka reputation | Reputation progression | Provides reputation-track rewards and is not a currency wallet |
| Cursed Fishing progression | Fishing-related activity progression | Separate from Delve progression and zone reputation |
| Delver’s Journey | Delve progression | Controls Delve-related advancement and rewards |
Exact caps, costs, account-wide behavior and vendor inventories should be confirmed after launch. Blizzard has not finalized every numerical value in the current development information.
Season 2 PvP launch and rewards
The new PvP season begins with Midnight Season 2. It refreshes the seasonal PvP reward structure, including conquest equipment, rating-based appearances, Elite and Gladiator sets, seasonal weapons and the seasonal mount progression.
The precise rating thresholds, title requirements, reward appearances and seasonal deadlines require final live confirmation. Players who want rating-based rewards should avoid assuming that Season 1 requirements carry over unchanged.
During the patch week, it is still useful to finish outstanding Season 1 goals if their rewards are seasonal. Once Season 2 begins, the reward structures and available ladders change, while some older collection rewards may remain obtainable through other means.
Great Vault and weekly reset timing
The first Season 2 Great Vault is tied to the first completed Season 2 activities after the seasonal launch. Raid, Mythic+ and Delve rows use the new season’s content once Season 2 begins, while the exact first-claim timing follows the normal weekly reset.
Players should not assume that activities completed during the one-week Patch 12.1 preparation period count as Season 2 progress. Heroic Altar of Fangs runs during the patch week are useful for preparation, but the seasonal Mythic+ and raid systems begin with the Season 2 launch.
A practical approach is to complete at least one eligible activity in each relevant Great Vault category after the season begins, then increase the number of completed activities in the row that matches your main playstyle. The final reward item levels and threshold mapping should be checked against the live Great Vault interface.
How to prepare before Season 2 begins
- Finish important Season 1 rewards first. Complete time-sensitive achievements, rating goals and collection objectives before the seasonal transition.
- Complete the Patch 12.1 campaign. The campaign is the safest route to unlocking the Coiled Isle and its central activities.
- Run Heroic Altar of Fangs. Use the patch week to learn the three-boss dungeon before it enters Mythic+.
- Prepare more than one character if needed. Confirm class changes, tier-set bonuses and the final gearing path before transferring expensive resources.
- Organize Mythic+ groups. The new rotation includes returning dungeons, so review their current mechanics rather than relying on old routes.
- Unlock Delve access early. This lets you begin Bountiful Delves and seasonal Nemesis progression as soon as Season 2 starts.
- Keep Coiled Isle resources separate. Check the purpose of each item before spending Corrosive Souls, Corrosive Coins or other progression resources.
- Plan the first weekly reset. Reserve time for raid, Mythic+, Delves, PvP and any weekly Coiled Isle activities that become available.
What is confirmed and what still needs verification?
The following Season 2 details are confirmed in the current Patch 12.1 development information: Season 2 begins one week after Patch 12.1, the Venomous Abyss is the new raid, Altar of Fangs joins the Mythic+ pool, the rotation contains eight dungeons, three new Coiled Isle Delves are added, Bountiful Delves return, a new PvP season begins and additional Prey content becomes available.
The following details still require final confirmation: the exact Patch 12.1 release date, regional launch times, the exact Season 2 start date, raid-wing openings, final item levels, weekly caps, currency costs, reward quantities, rating thresholds and any account-wide unlock rules that are still being tested.
