Dust II is one of the current CS2 Premier maps and one of the best maps for learning Counter-Strike fundamentals. Long sightlines reward good crosshair placement and AWP control, while Long A, Short, Mid and Tunnels create a simple layout with a surprising amount of strategic depth.
The central concept is straightforward: do not attack each bombsite through only one route. Long + Short makes A difficult to hold, while B becomes much stronger when Tunnels pressure is combined with Mid or Lower Tunnel control.
Is Dust II in CS2 Premier?
Yes. Dust II remains part of the current seven-map Premier pool together with Ancient, Anubis, Cache, Inferno, Mirage and Nuke.

What Changed on Dust II in 2026?
Dust II did not receive a major layout rework during Season 5.
On July 8, 2026, Valve fixed a pixel gap and adjusted clipping Outside Tunnel.
The strategic structure of Long A, Short, Mid and B Tunnels therefore remains familiar, making Dust II a relatively stable map to learn.
Dust II Map Structure
Dust II can be understood through four main routes:
- Long A — Outside Long → Long Doors → Long A → A;
- Short A — Top Mid → Xbox/Catwalk → Short → A;
- Mid — Top Mid → Middle → Mid Doors/CT;
- B — Upper Tunnels → B Site, with Lower Tunnels connecting back to Mid.
Because the layout is so readable, good teams win by controlling timings and combining routes rather than relying on surprise alone.

Why Long A Control Matters
Long A is one of the defining fights on Dust II.
If Ts win Long:
- CTs lose easy control of one A route;
- A defenders must watch Long and Short simultaneously;
- Ts gain strong post-plant positions;
- the AWP has more space to work.
If CTs control Long comfortably every round, A attacks become much easier to predict.
How to Take Long A as T
Do not dry peek Long Doors one by one.
A practical Long take:
- prepare a flash over or through Long Doors;
- send the first two players close enough to trade;
- clear the immediate corner;
- check Pit and Blue;
- establish Long control before pushing the A Ramp;
- wait for Short pressure if possible.
How to Defend Long A
CTs can use early incendiaries, HE grenades and teammate flashes to contest the Long Doors timing.
If the first fight goes badly, falling back toward Pit or A is usually better than dying alone with no trade available.
Pit
Pit is a strong Long defensive and post-plant position because it is difficult to clear quickly from A.
Do not forget Pit when Long appears empty. A single surviving player there can completely disrupt a retake.
Why Short and Catwalk Matter
Short allows Ts to pressure A from a second direction.
A Long-only hit lets the A defenders concentrate on one lane. Long + Short forces them to turn between multiple angles.
Xbox
Xbox is one of the most famous community callouts on Dust II.
It sits around the Top Mid route toward Catwalk and is central to the classic T-side Short setup.
A smoke around Xbox helps Ts move toward Catwalk without being exposed as heavily to Mid/CT vision.
How to Take Short
- establish Top Mid control;
- use utility to reduce Mid visibility;
- cross toward Catwalk;
- clear Short systematically;
- avoid bunching all five players on the stairs;
- coordinate the final A hit with Long.
Long + Short A Split
This is one of the most reliable Dust II structures.
Basic plan:
- Long group establishes Long control;
- Short group crosses through Mid/Catwalk;
- CT/rotation sightlines are smoked;
- both groups attack A together;
- the bomb is planted for the side your team controls.
Simple A Execute
- take Long or create enough Long pressure;
- take Short through Mid;
- smoke CT/crossing sightlines;
- flash over A;
- activate Long and Short together;
- clear Goose and site cover;
- plant only after the important close positions are safe.
Mid Control on Dust II
Mid is not only a route toward Short.
Controlling Mid allows Ts to:
- reach Catwalk;
- pressure CT Spawn;
- split B through Mid Doors;
- hold rotations between A and B;
- fake one site and quickly redirect.
Mid Doors
Mid Doors are strategically important for both teams.
CTs use the area for information and rotations toward B. Ts can punish those rotations once they establish deeper Mid control.
Lower Tunnels
Lower Tunnels connect the B-side Tunnels with Mid.
This route is valuable for:
- late Mid pressure;
- B splits;
- rotation cuts;
- changing from a B setup into a Short/Mid play.
How to Attack B
The simplest B route is through Upper Tunnels, but five players rushing through one doorway is easy to punish with utility.
A better B execute uses:
- Tunnels control;
- utility on B Doors and Window;
- flashes over the site;
- molotovs for close defensive positions;
- a player watching or pressuring Mid when possible.
B Doors
B Doors are a key rotation and retake line.
Isolating this position reduces immediate CT pressure from Mid and CT Spawn.
Window
Window is one of the strongest B retake and defensive positions.
It should be smoked, flashed or cleared deliberately rather than ignored during the entry.
Back Plat
Back Plat provides deep B-site cover.
Players commonly die while planting because they assume the site is clear after killing the first defender near Tunnels.
B Car and Big Box
These positions can create difficult close fights and should be included in a structured site clear.
Simple B Execute
- take Upper Tunnels control;
- keep one player aware of Lower/Mid flank routes;
- smoke B Doors;
- isolate or flash Window;
- molotov a known close position;
- flash the entry;
- clear site together;
- check Back Plat before committing the bomb.
B Split Through Mid
A B split becomes much harder to defend when one group attacks Tunnels and another threatens Mid Doors.
The B defenders must now divide attention between two directions instead of focusing entirely on the Tunnel exit.
Best T-Side Default on Dust II
A practical Premier default can look like:
- two players pressure or control Long;
- one or two players work Top Mid/Short;
- one player holds Upper Tunnels;
- one flexible player supports the strongest information.
The exact allocation should change according to spawns and previous rounds.
How to Play CT Side
A classic structure is approximately:
- one Long A player;
- one A/Short player;
- one Mid player;
- two B players.
This is a starting framework, not a rule that must be repeated every round.
Why the Mid Player Matters
The Mid player provides information that connects the whole CT defense.
Useful calls include:
- how many Ts crossed toward Short;
- whether Lower Tunnels is active;
- whether Mid Doors are being pressured;
- whether a B split is possible.
CT B Defense
Two B players should avoid taking the same duel at the same time.
Use:
- early Tunnel utility;
- one player in a tradeable site position;
- another player covering the secondary angle;
- Window/Doors routes for retake support.
CT Rotations
Dust II rotations can be fast, which also means over-rotations are dangerous.
Do not abandon B because Long showed two players.
Ask:
- was the bomb seen?
- how many enemies were confirmed?
- is Short also active?
- can a T still be in Tunnels?
AWP on Dust II
Dust II is naturally strong for the AWP because of its long sightlines.
Important areas include:
- Long A;
- Mid;
- A Site toward Short/Long;
- B Doors/Window lines.
Do not show the AWP from the same opening every round. Good opponents will prefire, flash or avoid the line entirely.
Dust II for Solo Queue
Useful solo habits:
- call the Long count immediately;
- call Short crosses;
- say when Lower Tunnels is open;
- watch flanks instead of chasing kills;
- know one Xbox smoke;
- know one B Doors smoke;
- flash teammates into Long or B.
Dust II With a Duo or Full Stack
Coordinated teams can use:
- Long + Short A splits;
- Tunnels + Mid B splits;
- delayed Short pressure;
- fake Long control into B;
- Lower Tunnel lurks;
- planned CT Long contests.
Utility to Learn First

Common Dust II Mistakes
- dry peeking Long AWP angles;
- attacking A only through Long;
- sending every player through Short;
- ignoring Lower Tunnels;
- five-man rushing B through one doorway;
- not clearing Back Plat;
- rotating from sound alone;
- repeating the same Long setup every round;
- using all CT utility immediately;
- planting before site control is established.
