CS2 Premier Map Pool 2026: All 7 Maps & New Pick System

CS2 Premier Map Pool 2026: All 7 Maps & New Pick System

The current CS2 Premier map pool contains seven Active Duty maps: Ancient, Anubis, Cache, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage and Nuke. Cache joined the pool at the start of Premier Season 5 on July 8, 2026, replacing Overpass.

Premier's map-selection system also changed during the season. Since September 22, teams no longer ban maps until only one remains. Instead, both teams actively select maps and the game randomly chooses the final map from four candidates.

Which Maps Are in CS2 Premier Right Now?

The seven maps are:

  • Ancient;
  • Anubis;
  • Cache;
  • Dust II;
  • Inferno;
  • Mirage;
  • Nuke.

This is the Active Duty pool used by the current Premier environment.

If an older guide still lists Overpass instead of Cache, its map-pool information predates Premier Season 5.

Is Cache in CS2 Premier?

Yes.

Cache officially entered the Active Duty Map Pool on July 8, 2026.

It replaced Overpass and immediately became part of normal Premier matchmaking.

For players returning after a break, Cache is therefore one of the most important maps to update because old Premier preparation may not include its current callouts, timings, utility or rotations.

Is Overpass Still in Premier?

No.

Overpass was removed from the Active Duty pool when Season 5 began.

This does not mean Overpass can never appear elsewhere in CS2. Active Duty and the complete list of playable CS2 maps are not the same thing.

For Premier specifically, your current preparation should focus on the seven maps listed above.

How Does the New Premier Map Pick System Work?

Since September 22, 2026, Premier uses this process:

  1. Team 1 picks one map.
  2. Team 2 picks two maps.
  3. Team 1 picks one final map.
  4. One of the four selected maps is chosen randomly.

The selected map then becomes the map for the match.

Old Premier Veto vs New Map Selection

Old SystemCurrent System
Teams mainly removed mapsTeams actively select maps they are willing to play
Veto continued until one map remainedFour maps remain as possible outcomes
Final map was determined by the veto pathFinal map is randomly selected from the four picks
Strong emphasis on eliminating weak mapsMore emphasis on maintaining several playable maps
Outdated mechanic warning: guides showing both teams repeatedly banning the seven-map pool down to a single remaining map no longer describe the current Premier system.

Why Did Valve Change Premier Map Selection?

Valve's stated idea was that players who spend time learning strategies on a map should have more opportunities to benefit from that preparation.

The difference is subtle but important.

Previously, much of the decision-making was about removing maps you did not want.

Now your team actively puts maps into the final candidate pool.

This gives practiced maps a better chance of appearing, but you still cannot guarantee one specific map because the final selection is random.

Can You Choose the Exact Map You Want?

No.

Your team can influence the four-map candidate pool, but neither team can guarantee that one preferred map becomes the final result.

If Mirage enters the four-map pool, for example, it still competes with three other selected maps.

This is why Premier is not equivalent to Competitive matchmaking where you can directly queue specific maps.

What Is the Chance of Getting a Selected Map?

If the final selection is genuinely one of four possible maps, each selected map represents one possible outcome of the final draw.

However, the strategic question is not simply probability.

The key is making sure your team puts maps into the candidate pool that you can actually play.

Can Both Teams Pick the Same Map?

The purpose of the selection process is to establish the final candidate maps from the available pool according to the client workflow.

Rather than relying on old screenshots or assumptions about duplicate voting behavior, follow the live Premier interface when making the selections because Valve can adjust UI implementation without changing the broader four-map concept.

Do You Need to Know All 7 Premier Maps?

You do not need equal mastery on all seven, but being completely unprepared on several maps is now particularly dangerous.

A practical map-pool structure is:

  • 2–3 strong maps where you know utility, rotations and defaults;
  • 2–3 playable maps where you can perform reliably;
  • no disaster map where basic callouts and positions are unknown.

The new system rewards depth more than a strategy built around permanently removing every weak map.

Best Premier Maps to Learn First

There is no official difficulty order, because the best learning path depends on your experience.

For a newer Premier player, a practical sequence could be:

  1. Mirage;
  2. Dust II;
  3. Inferno;
  4. Cache;
  5. Nuke;
  6. Ancient;
  7. Anubis.

This is a learning recommendation, not a statement that Mirage is objectively the easiest map or Anubis objectively the hardest.

Mirage in Premier

Mirage remains one of the most recognizable CS maps and is useful for learning fundamental concepts such as mid control, connector pressure, trading and basic site executes.

You should at minimum know:

  • window and connector callouts;
  • basic A smokes;
  • B apartments pressure;
  • CT and jungle rotations;
  • common mid timings.

Dust II in Premier

Dust II rewards clean fundamentals and punishes poor spacing.

Important areas include:

  • long A;
  • short/catwalk;
  • mid;
  • lower tunnels;
  • B tunnels.

It is useful for practicing opening duels, map spacing and straightforward executes.

Inferno in Premier

Inferno is highly sensitive to utility and territory.

Players should understand:

  • Banana control;
  • brackets and short/long pressure;
  • site-execute utility;
  • CT rotations;
  • late-round retake positions.

Cache in Premier

Cache is especially relevant because it is the newest addition to the current Active Duty pool.

Priority concepts include:

  • mid control;
  • boost;
  • highway and connector-style rotations;
  • A main pressure;
  • B halls and checkers;
  • fast rotations between sites.

If you skipped Cache practice before Season 5, this is the obvious map to update first.

Nuke in Premier

Nuke requires strong positional understanding because its two bombsites are vertically connected.

Key concepts include:

  • outside control;
  • secret rotations;
  • ramp;
  • upper executes;
  • lower-site transitions;
  • sound and rotation discipline.

Ancient in Premier

Ancient places significant value on controlling central areas and using utility efficiently.

Teams that surrender too much map space early can make both CT defense and T-side execution much harder.

Anubis in Premier

Anubis rewards control of connecting areas and coordinated pressure.

Players should understand the relationships between mid, water, connector routes and the bombsites rather than treating each lane independently.

Which Premier Map Should You Pick?

Your team should normally prefer maps where:

  • multiple teammates know utility;
  • you understand both T and CT defaults;
  • your recent results are stable;
  • you know the basic economy-dependent executes;
  • you are not relying on one player to carry all map knowledge.

A map being popular does not automatically make it the best pick for your team.

Should You Pick Your Best Map Every Time?

Usually it should be a strong candidate, but context matters.

If your best map is also clearly the opponent's strongest map, a second or third comfort option may create a better matchup.

Premier's new system is therefore not only about knowing your own pool. It creates value in understanding which maps your opponents appear comfortable selecting.

How to Build a Premier Map Pool

Instead of attempting to learn every grenade on seven maps immediately, build depth in layers:

Stage 1: Basic Survival

  • all major callouts;
  • CT starting positions;
  • standard T routes;
  • basic economy understanding.

Stage 2: Reliable Utility

  • 2–3 essential smokes per site;
  • common molotovs;
  • basic pop flashes;
  • retake utility.

Stage 3: Team Structure

  • defaults;
  • site executes;
  • mid-round rotations;
  • anti-eco plans;
  • late-round protocols.

Track Your Win Rate by Map

Your overall Premier win rate can hide a major map weakness.

For example:

  • Mirage: 61%;
  • Inferno: 58%;
  • Cache: 54%;
  • Nuke: 49%;
  • Ancient: 38%.

In that example, improving or avoiding unnecessary Ancient exposure may be more valuable than general aim practice.

Map Pool and Premier Rating

The maps do not have separate Premier CS Ratings.

Premier uses one numerical rating across the mode.

A loss on Cache and a loss on Mirage both affect the same Premier rating progression.

This differs from Competitive, where Skill Groups are map-specific.

See CS2 Premier vs Competitive.

Map Pool and Rating Gain/Loss

Your current map does not come with a published fixed +gain/-loss multiplier.

Valve does not provide a table saying that winning Nuke gives more CS Rating than winning Mirage.

If you see unusual +/− values, treat that as a rating-system issue rather than a known fixed map bonus.

See CS2 Premier Rating Gain & Loss Explained.

Map Pool and Promotion Matches

A promotion match can happen on whichever Premier map is selected for that queue.

The 5K promotion boundaries do not give you a special guaranteed comfort map.

That is another reason to maintain a broader playable pool.

See CS2 Premier Promotion & Relegation Matches.

Does the Premier Map Pool Change Every Season?

Valve can change Active Duty when a new Premier season begins, but there is no rule that guarantees exactly one map must change every season.

Treat every new season announcement as the source of truth rather than assuming the previous rotation pattern will repeat.

When Will the Next Map Rotation Happen?

Valve has not announced the next Premier map rotation or Season 6 start date as of October 28, 2026.

When a new Active Duty rotation is announced, this page should be updated while keeping the same evergreen URL.

Current Premier Map Pool Checklist

  • Ancient — in.
  • Anubis — in.
  • Cache — in.
  • Dust II — in.
  • Inferno — in.
  • Mirage — in.
  • Nuke — in.
