Need Help Clearing a WoW Raid?
Pre-release note: This guide is based on the current Patch 12.1 PTR and official pre-release information. Requirements, rewards and numerical values may change before launch.

Entombed Sentinels is the second encounter in The Venomous Abyss, the eight-boss raid introduced with World of Warcraft: Midnight Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula'tek. The fight is a two-target encounter against the Breath of Ula'tek and Blood of Ula'tek. The Sentinels must be separated because they gain almost complete damage reduction when they are within 25 yards of each other. The main challenges are controlling their energy, handling Venom Coagulation and Toxic Droplets, managing Blood Venom, and neutralizing Helical Toxins with exactly four applications.

How the Entombed Sentinels Fight Works

The encounter uses two ancient golems with different ability sets. The Breath of Ula'tek controls living venom and area denial, while the Blood of Ula'tek infects players and creates toxic ground effects. Both bosses should normally be damaged together unless your raid leader assigns a specific damage strategy.

The Sentinels also apply different marks while players remain near them. These marks become increasingly dangerous over time, so the raid should avoid standing within the range of both bosses unless the encounter requires it.

Keep the Sentinels Apart

Breath of Ula'tek and Blood of Ula'tek are protected by Ula'tek's Dominance whenever they are within 25 yards of one another. While this protection is active, they take 99% less damage. Tanks should therefore position the bosses on opposite sides of the room or at clearly separated anchor points.

Do not drag one Sentinel through the middle of the raid while swapping positions. Plan tank movement around existing pools, slimes and upcoming energy events. The exact room layout may affect the best locations, but the underlying rule remains the same: the bosses must not overlap.

Manage the Shared Energy Cycle

When the Sentinels reach 100 energy, they move together and begin Vitriolic Stasis. During this phase, they take 99% less damage and restore the health of the weaker Sentinel until both bosses are equal.

Vitriolic Stasis prevents the raid from permanently focusing one boss while ignoring the other. Keep both Sentinels close in health before the energy event and avoid allowing one target to fall far behind. If one boss is substantially lower when the stasis begins, the encounter effectively gives that boss health back.

Normal and Raid Finder Mechanics

Normal difficulty contains the complete structure of the encounter but gives the raid more room to recover from mistakes. Raid Finder uses the same central concepts with more forgiving execution requirements.

Breath of Ula'tek

  • Living Venom: The Breath launches venom that returns toward its source after a delay. Players must watch the projectile path and avoid being struck.
  • Venom Coagulation: The Breath creates a large living slime. The slime continually casts Contaminate, dealing raid-wide damage until it is destroyed.
  • Toxic Droplets: Multiple venom droplets appear around the arena. Each droplet eventually erupts into Noxious Blast.
  • Empowering Slam: The Breath strikes its current tank. Repeated hits on the same target empower the ability, increasing its physical damage until the golem changes targets.

Damage dealers should prioritize Venom Coagulation before its Contaminate damage overwhelms the healers. Players can remove Toxic Droplets by stepping on them, but doing so causes a small amount of damage. Assign mobile players or appropriate defensive cooldowns to clear dangerous droplets rather than allowing them to expire.

Blood of Ula'tek

  • Blighted Blood: Players are infected with Blood Venom, taking periodic shadow damage. If the effect is not dispelled, it creates a toxic pool when it expires.
  • Unstable Miasma: A marked player must coordinate with nearby players after the delay expires. The effect is divided among players within five yards, but it can also spread Blood Venom through Clinging Murk.
  • Bloodvenom Injection: The Blood applies a heavy physical hit followed by a long damage-over-time effect to its tank. The effect stacks, so tanks should coordinate swaps.

Healers should dispel Blighted Blood when doing so will not place a pool in a dangerous location. Players targeted by Unstable Miasma should move according to the raid's assigned stack position rather than reacting independently.

Vitriolic Stasis and Helical Toxins

When Vitriolic Stasis begins, every player receives Helical Toxins. The debuff deals periodic damage and interacts with other players. Colliding with another affected player combines the venom, increasing the number of applications.

Helical Toxins is neutralized harmlessly when it reaches exactly four applications. Reaching fewer than four applications allows the effect to continue, while exceeding four applications causes Cultivated Burst when the debuff expires. This is the most important raid-wide mechanic in the encounter.

A practical execution method is to assign players into small groups and have them deliberately combine applications until each player reaches four. Do not allow uncontrolled movement between groups. The raid should use clear markers, nameplates or debuff displays to confirm the current application count.

Heroic Difficulty Changes

Heroic keeps the Normal mechanics but increases the punishment for poor positioning and incomplete debuff handling. Several venom abilities gain additional effects, and the raid has less time to recover from missed dispels, delayed add damage or incorrect Helical Toxins combinations.

Heroic Positioning Priorities

  • Keep the two Sentinels separated throughout movement events, not only during the opening position.
  • Leave room around both bosses for Blood Venom pools and Unstable Miasma assignments.
  • Do not clear Toxic Droplets in locations needed for the Helical Toxins groups.
  • Move Living Venom away from the raid and avoid returning projectiles.
  • Use defensive cooldowns for raid-wide damage following mistakes rather than treating every event as unavoidable.

Heroic Tank Responsibilities

Empowering Slam becomes increasingly dangerous if the Breath repeatedly hits the same tank. Bloodvenom Injection also applies a stacking damage effect. Tanks should swap before their active debuffs become unmanageable and should move the bosses only when the replacement tank is ready.

Keep the bosses facing away from the raid where appropriate. Avoid swapping through the center of the room, because the movement can cause the Sentinels to enter the 25-yard protection range or force players through toxic pools.

Heroic Healer Responsibilities

Heroic healing is dominated by overlapping damage from Contaminate, Blood Venom, Helical Toxins and failed Toxic Droplet handling. Assign dispels in advance and coordinate them with Unstable Miasma. A dispel that creates a pool beneath a movement group can cause more damage than leaving the effect active briefly.

Plan major healing cooldowns around Vitriolic Stasis, especially when several players need to combine Helical Toxins applications at the same time. Players who fail to reach exactly four applications can trigger Cultivated Burst and add a long-lasting damage effect to the encounter.

Mythic Difficulty Strategy

Mythic Entombed Sentinels is primarily an execution check. The encounter does not allow the raid to ignore either boss, and every movement mistake can affect tank positioning, venom pools and Helical Toxins groups simultaneously.

Mythic Damage Priorities

  1. Destroy Venom Coagulation before Contaminate becomes unmanageable.
  2. Remove or safely soak Toxic Droplets before Noxious Blast.
  3. Maintain balanced damage between Breath of Ula'tek and Blood of Ula'tek.
  4. Continue damaging both bosses without bringing them within 25 yards of each other.
  5. Prepare burst damage for the weaker Sentinel after Vitriolic Stasis ends.

Venom Coagulation is not a harmless secondary target. Leaving the slime alive increases raid damage and limits the space available for later mechanics. Assign a dedicated priority group if your composition can support it, but do not abandon the main bosses for so long that their health becomes badly unbalanced.

Mythic Helical Toxins

Mythic requires consistent handling of Helical Toxins. Players should know their assigned partners or group before the first Vitriolic Stasis. The goal remains exactly four applications, not as many applications as possible.

Use a fixed movement pattern. Players should approach their assigned targets one at a time, verify the debuff count, and return to their designated area. Panic movement is dangerous because an accidental fifth application can turn a successful sequence into a Cultivated Burst.

Mythic Movement and Room Management

Room space is a major resource. Blood Venom pools, Toxic Droplets, Living Venom paths and Helical Toxins groups should not all be handled in the same area. Establish a clockwise or counter-clockwise movement direction before the pull and reserve one side of the room for the Blood Sentinel.

Do not place Unstable Miasma on top of the tanks or in the path between the two bosses. The shared damage can be handled more reliably when the stack location is predetermined and nearby players move toward it instead of making the marked player chase the group.

Role Responsibilities

Tanks

  • Keep Breath of Ula'tek and Blood of Ula'tek more than 25 yards apart.
  • Face the Breath away from players when handling Toxic Droplets and Living Venom.
  • Swap for Empowering Slam and Bloodvenom Injection according to your debuff plan.
  • Move bosses only when the new position is clear of pools and assigned mechanic areas.
  • Keep the bosses close in health before Vitriolic Stasis.

Healers

  • Dispel Blighted Blood according to the raid's pool-placement plan.
  • Prepare group healing for Vitriolic Stasis and Helical Toxins.
  • Watch players handling Unstable Miasma and Clinging Murk.
  • Prioritize damage from Contaminate and failed venom mechanics.
  • Coordinate external cooldowns for tanks during overlapping injections and slams.

Damage Dealers

  • Switch quickly to Venom Coagulation.
  • Help clear Toxic Droplets before they cast Noxious Blast.
  • Keep damage balanced between both Sentinels.
  • Follow the assigned Helical Toxins path and stop moving after reaching four applications.
  • Use personal defensives during raid-wide venom damage and when soaking dangerous mechanics.

Common Entombed Sentinels Wipes

  • The Sentinels overlap: Ula'tek's Dominance reduces their incoming damage by 99%, wasting damage cooldowns and disrupting the encounter rhythm.
  • One boss is heavily over-damaged: Vitriolic Stasis restores the weaker Sentinel until the health values match.
  • Venom Coagulation survives too long: Contaminate creates sustained raid damage and removes safe movement space.
  • Toxic Droplets are ignored: Several Noxious Blasts can become lethal, especially during another raid-wide event.
  • Helical Toxins reaches the wrong count: Fewer than four applications fail to neutralize the debuff, while more than four trigger Cultivated Burst.
  • Blood Venom pools block the room: Poor dispel locations make later movement mechanics substantially harder.
  • Unstable Miasma is handled alone: The marked player must follow the planned five-yard stack instead of improvising.

Bloodlust and Defensive Cooldown Planning

Use Bloodlust, Heroism or a similar major haste effect during the opening burn unless your raid is deliberately saving it for a later Vitriolic Stasis cycle. The opening provides maximum room and cooldown availability, while later phases become more demanding as pools and venom effects accumulate.

Save major defensive cooldowns for Vitriolic Stasis when the raid is combining Helical Toxins applications. Additional cooldowns may be needed for overlapping Contaminate, Blood Venom and Noxious Blast damage. Tanks should reserve strong personal mitigation for high stacks of Empowering Slam or Bloodvenom Injection.

Entombed Sentinels Loot

Entombed Sentinels has raid loot for Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic and Mythic difficulty. The encounter's listed rewards include weapons, armor, trinkets and Sentinel-themed cosmetic items. The boss also contributes to the Midnight Season 2 tier-set loot structure through its encounter-specific tier reward.

Exact item levels and upgrade values depend on the final Season 2 reward structure and difficulty tuning. Treat individual drops as random loot rather than guaranteed rewards, and use the Great Vault as a separate source of raid choices when planning your gearing route.

  1. Configure an alert for Helical Toxins and show its application count clearly.
  2. Use nameplates or boss frames that display both Sentinel health values and energy.
  3. Mark the two tank locations before the pull.
  4. Assign players to Helical Toxins groups before starting the encounter.
  5. Choose a fixed area for Unstable Miasma stacks.
  6. Assign priority damage to Venom Coagulation.
  7. Give mobile players responsibility for clearing dangerous Toxic Droplets.
  8. Keep movement routes clear of Blood Venom pools.
