Need Help Progressing in Lost Ark?

As of July 22, 2026, Serca Matchmaking Mode is live in the Western version of Lost Ark. It is a reduced-difficulty version of the four-player Shadow Raid that lets you enter alone, queue with other players, or bring a pre-made party of two or three. The mode requires Item Level 1710, uses the same entry count and gate progress as Serca Normal, and provides the same rewards as Normal difficulty. It is currently the most practical way to experience Serca without relying entirely on Party Finder.

What Is Serca Matchmaking Mode?

Serca Matchmaking Mode is a special queue for the Shadow Raid Serca, the Witch of Agony. Unlike standard Normal, Hard, and Nightmare raids, Matchmaking Mode reduces the encounter's difficulty and adjusts combat balance according to the number of players inside.

You can use the mode in several ways:

  • Enter alone and complete the raid as a solo player.
  • Queue alone and let the game form a party.
  • Queue with a pre-made party of two or three players.
  • Form a party through Find Party and enter the Matchmaking version.

A pre-made party of four cannot use Matchmaking Mode. If you already have four players, you must enter Serca through the regular raid options or Find Party.

The feature is designed for players who want Serca progression without the full difficulty of Normal, the pressure of support checks, or the long waiting times that can affect Party Finder groups.

How to Unlock and Enter Serca Matchmaking

The current Western rules no longer require the former Shadow Raid guide quest. Once your character reaches Item Level 1710, Serca becomes available immediately under the current content-unlocking rules.

You can access the mode in either of these ways:

  1. Open the Game Menu with Esc.
  2. Go to the Adventure category.
  3. Select the Serca Matchmaking option.

You can also interact with the Shadow Raid entrance in a major city and choose the Matchmaking Mode button in the entry interface. The former Solo Mode menu is now labeled Solo/Matchmaking Mode.

Available entry choices

  • Enter: Start Serca alone with the reduced Matchmaking rules.
  • Matching: Queue alone or with a two- or three-player pre-made party.
  • Find Party: Form or join a group before entering the Matchmaking version.

If your character is exactly 1710, Matchmaking is the intended low-friction option for learning the raid and collecting Normal-level rewards. You do not need to wait until you can comfortably qualify for Hard or Nightmare.

How the Reduced Difficulty Works

Matchmaking Mode does not simply place four random players into regular Serca. Combat balance changes dynamically based on the number of players inside. This makes solo entry and smaller groups viable instead of requiring a full party to compensate for missing damage or support roles.

The mode also includes several safety systems that change how failure works.

Unlimited resurrections

Players can resurrect without a normal limited revive pool. The system uses a Phoenix Plume first. If none is available, the resurrection costs 10 Crystals.

The raid does not automatically wipe when every party member is dead. However, players must resurrect within the available waiting period. If you remain dead for too long, you are removed from the raid and your entry count is consumed.

This means Matchmaking is forgiving, but it is not completely consequence-free. Keep Phoenix Plumes available and do not treat death as a reason to stay inactive.

Combat Support

If the party has no Support class, a Combat Support buff is applied. A Support character who enters alone receives a stronger Damage to Foes Increased effect instead.

In four-player Matchmaking groups, attack power also increases over time through stacking buffs:

  • Inner Spark: Attack Power increased by 50%.
  • Inner Flame: Attack Power increased by 100%.
  • Inner Hellfire: Attack Power increased by 200%.

These effects are designed to keep a random group moving toward a clear even when its composition is not optimized. They do not remove the need to participate in mechanics, but they reduce the importance of finding the perfect class balance before entering.

Gate Progress and Lockout Rules

Serca Matchmaking shares entry count and gate progress with the regular Serca difficulties. The shared progress includes Normal, Hard, Nightmare, and Matchmaking Mode.

Once you clear the first gate in Matchmaking Mode, the difficulty is locked for the remaining gates of that entry. You cannot clear the first gate in Matchmaking and then freely change to another difficulty for the next gate.

Pay attention to the following rules:

  • Leaving the dungeon deducts your entry count even if you have not claimed rewards.
  • Stopping through a party vote before claiming rewards restores the entry count for players who remain inside.
  • If the boss goes berserk, it recovers HP.
  • Quitting or leaving while playing solo provides an entry-count restoration ticket valid until the next maintenance.
  • Repeated inactivity can remove you from the raid without a restoration ticket.

The vote rule is particularly important for random groups. If the party has no realistic chance of finishing, stop through the proper vote before claiming rewards instead of having every player leave individually.

AFK Protection and Matchmaking Etiquette

Matchmaking Mode includes AFK protection. After combat begins, the game checks whether a player is participating. A warning appears if the character remains inactive. Continued non-participation removes the player, consumes the entry count, and does not provide a restoration ticket.

Two situations are not treated as AFK behavior:

  • Watching a raid cutscene.
  • Waiting to resurrect after death.

Everything else should be treated as an active group activity. Use your skills, help with stagger or other encounter checks, and return promptly after a death. Matchmaking is forgiving because of its buffs and revive rules, not because inactivity is permitted.

What Rewards Does Serca Matchmaking Give?

Official Western information states that Serca Matchmaking provides rewards identical to Normal difficulty. Bonus Rewards are also available, subject to the same End Content reward rules that apply to the other qualifying activities on your character.

Matchmaking does not provide a separate reward table with reduced loot. It also does not include the features listed below:

  • No Loot Auction.
  • No Sidereal's Energy drop.
  • No independent entry count separate from Serca.
  • No additional weekly gold pool beyond the applicable End Content limits.

Normal Serca progression includes Fragmented Agony Thorn, which can be exchanged for Agony Thorn and honing materials. The Agony Thorn material itself is associated with Hard and Nightmare rewards and is used for Tier 4 Upper progression, including Destined Tremor Gear and related honing materials.

For that reason, Matchmaking is strongest as a Normal-level progression route, a learning tool, or a reliable weekly clear method. Players pushing Tier 4 Upper gear should eventually compare its value with stable Hard clears rather than assuming Matchmaking replaces every higher-difficulty reward.

Best Weekly Use of Serca Matchmaking

The best weekly use depends on your character's goal. Matchmaking is not automatically the highest-value option for every roster, but it is often the most efficient option when Party Finder time or failed pulls would otherwise prevent a clear.

Use Matchmaking first on a new 1710 character

For a character that has just reached 1710, start with Matchmaking rather than immediately spending hours applying to Hard groups. The reduced difficulty gives you a practical introduction to Serca's two-gate structure while still providing Normal rewards and progression materials.

After the first clear, review the character's damage, survivability, and familiarity with the encounter. Then decide whether the next weekly reset should remain in Matchmaking or move toward a regular difficulty.

Use it for learning before Party Finder

Matchmaking is a good preparation step if you have never seen Serca. Learn the arena layout, attack patterns, timing windows, and the rhythm of the Brawl system before joining a progression or farm lobby.

Do not assume that unlimited resurrection teaches every mechanic automatically. You still need to understand the encounter before moving into Hard or Nightmare, where the regular rules are more demanding.

Use it when a character is underprepared for Hard

If your character meets the 1730 Hard entry level but lacks the practical damage, gems, Ark Grid development, or encounter knowledge needed for a stable clear, Matchmaking can protect the weekly reward cycle while you improve the character.

This is usually better than repeatedly joining groups that disband after a few failed pulls. A completed Normal clear gives useful progression while preserving time and resources for the next week.

Use it for smaller friend groups

Two or three friends can queue together without finding a fourth player first. This is one of the mode's clearest advantages over standard Party Finder. The combat balance adjusts to the number of players, so a small group can enter without deliberately filling every slot.

  1. Check Item Level and entry availability. Make sure the character is at least 1710 and has not already used the shared Serca entry.
  2. Choose the correct objective. Use Matchmaking for a reliable Normal clear, learning, or low-friction progression.
  3. Prepare battle items. Bring the items your class and raid mechanics require, even though the mode is easier.
  4. Queue with a clear role expectation. If you are playing a Support class, use the appropriate support setup. If you are DPS, enter with a functional raid build.
  5. Stay active after combat begins. AFK protection can consume your entry and remove you from the group.
  6. Claim bonus rewards only when they are worth the cost. Matchmaking has the same Bonus Reward availability as Normal, but the best choice depends on your material and gold priorities.
  7. Decide whether to progress upward. Once Normal is comfortable, compare the time and success rate of regular Hard groups with the value of continued Matchmaking clears.

Common Serca Matchmaking Mistakes

Assuming Matchmaking has a separate weekly reset

It does not. Matchmaking shares entry count and gate progress with the other Serca difficulties. Running Matchmaking first can affect your ability to enter Normal, Hard, or Nightmare on the same character.

Leaving immediately after a death

Deaths are expected in this mode, and the system provides unlimited resurrections. Wait for the resurrection prompt and return to combat instead of abandoning the run.

Ignoring the vote-stop rule

If the group cannot continue, use the vote-stop option before claiming rewards. Individual departures can consume entry counts, while a successful vote can restore the entry count for players who remain inside.

Entering without Phoenix Plumes

Matchmaking allows Crystal-based resurrection when Phoenix Plumes are unavailable, but that does not make the cost irrelevant. Stock Phoenix Plumes before queuing, particularly on characters that are still learning the raid.

Treating the reduced difficulty as a free carry

The mode increases survivability and damage support, but players still need to attack, respond to mechanics, and avoid unnecessary deaths. Continued non-participation can trigger removal and permanently consume the entry.

Expecting Hard or Nightmare materials

Matchmaking uses Normal-level rewards. If your main goal is Agony Thorn and higher Tier 4 Upper progression, you will eventually need to move into regular Hard or Nightmare clears when your character and group are ready.

When Should You Use a Serca Carry?

Matchmaking is the best low-pressure option when you can clear Normal yourself but do not have a consistent group. A carry becomes more relevant when the character has the required Item Level but cannot reliably complete the raid, or when Party Finder time is preventing you from reaching a higher-difficulty weekly clear.

For players who want help with a difficult Serca clear, the Lost Ark Serca Raid Boost page covers the available Shadow Raid assistance. Use it for a specific progression bottleneck rather than replacing Matchmaking when the reduced-difficulty route already meets your weekly goal.

For broader progression planning, continue with the Lost Ark guides and services hub. The Lost Ark Gear Progression Guide is useful when deciding whether to invest in Item Level, Ark Grid, honing, or additional characters. If your roster is approaching the next Serca difficulty, review the current Serca and Tier 4 gear progression guide before spending scarce materials.
