In Midnight Season 2, Delves provide solo-friendly gear, weekly Great Vault progress and additional upgrade materials. The most important breakpoint is Tier 8: it offers the highest standard Delve Great Vault reward, while Tiers 9–11 mainly add tougher encounters, extra crest opportunities and higher seasonal progression rewards rather than a higher regular Vault item level.

The exact item level shown in-game can depend on the current Season 2 tuning, the reward source and whether the item comes from a Bountiful Coffer, a special Delve reward or the Great Vault. Treat the recommended levels above as practical entry points rather than hard requirements.
What Delve Tier Gives the Best Loot?
Tier 8 is the main gearing breakpoint for Midnight Season 2. Completing Tier 8 Delves qualifies the corresponding Great Vault objective for Hero 1/6 gear. Completing Tier 9, Tier 10 or Tier 11 does not normally increase the standard Delve Vault item beyond the Tier 8 reward level.
Higher tiers remain valuable for other reasons. Tiers 9–11 provide more demanding progression, additional seasonal rewards and access to stronger crest-related rewards through Bountiful Delves and the Delver’s Journey system. If your only goal is the highest regular Delve item in the Great Vault, Tier 8 is the key target.

Regular Delves and Bountiful Delves
Regular Delves
Regular Delves are repeatable and do not require a Restored Coffer Key. They are useful for learning layouts, completing seasonal progression and obtaining general rewards, but their end-of-run gear is lower than the loot from a Bountiful Coffer.
Regular Delves are a good choice when you are:
- learning a new Delve or boss encounter;
- unlocking higher Delve tiers;
- playing without a Restored Coffer Key;
- progressing an alt through the early gearing stages; or
- working toward Great Vault activity thresholds.
Bountiful Delves
Bountiful Delves contain a Bountiful Coffer that can be opened with a Restored Coffer Key. The item level of the gear is determined by the Delve tier, so use keys on a tier you can complete reliably rather than spending them before you are ready for the higher rewards.
Bountiful Delves can also provide seasonal currencies, Delver’s Journey progress, curios and additional upgrade materials. The available reward structure changes as you progress through the seasonal Delve track, so later tiers are useful even when the normal gear item level has reached its ceiling.

The standard end-of-run item is not the same as the Great Vault item. The Great Vault improves the reward track, which is why a Tier 8 Delve can produce a Hero-track Vault option even though the normal Delve chest remains on the Champion track.
How the Delve Great Vault Works
The Delve row is part of the World section of the Great Vault. It is shared with eligible world activities such as Prey hunts, zone events, weekly quests and assignments. This means that non-Delve activities can contribute to the row, but they can also determine the item level of a slot if they are included among the activities used for that objective.

You choose only one reward from the completed Great Vault options. Unlocking additional slots does not give several pieces of gear; it gives more choices from which to select one item.
How the Tier 8 Vault Breakpoint Works
To obtain the highest standard Delve-based Great Vault reward, complete enough high-tier activities for each slot to register at the Tier 8 reward level. Completing only one Tier 8 Delve is not enough to guarantee that every World slot reaches the Tier 8 level.
A practical weekly target is:
- Complete two Tier 8 or higher Delves for the first World Vault slot.
- Complete two additional Tier 8 or higher activities for the second slot.
- Complete four more Tier 8 or higher activities for the third slot.
Other eligible world activities can count toward the number of completions, but lower-tier activities may produce lower-level reward slots. Check the Great Vault tooltip during the week to confirm the current level of each objective.
What Loot Can Appear in the Delve Great Vault?
The Delve Great Vault row draws from the World-content reward pool. It can offer armor, weapons and other eligible equipment appropriate to the character and the season. Tier pieces can also appear in non-raid Vault rows, so completing Delves can contribute to class-set progression even if you do not raid.
The Vault is not a targeted loot chest for a specific Delve boss. Running a particular Delve does not guarantee that its unique item will appear. If you are looking for a specific trinket, weapon or armor piece, the correct approach is to verify its source and use the Great Vault as an additional chance rather than a guaranteed drop.
Tier Set Rewards
Midnight Season 2 tier-set armor can come from the raid, the Great Vault, PvP rewards and eligible armor converted at the Catalyst. A World Vault slot can therefore be useful for completing a four-piece set, especially when your other gear sources have not provided the missing slot.
Before selecting a random upgrade, compare every Vault option against your current set bonus. Completing or preserving an important tier bonus can be more valuable than taking a small item-level increase on a non-set slot.
Delver’s Bounty and Special Delve Rewards
Delver’s Bounty is a special reward associated with the seasonal Delve system. It is separate from the normal Bountiful Coffer and should not be confused with a standard Great Vault item.
Special Delve rewards can include higher-track gear, upgrade materials or other seasonal benefits depending on your Delver’s Journey progress. Their availability is tied to the seasonal progression system, so a character that has just reached level 90 may not have access to every reward immediately.
Do not assume that every Tier 11 clear gives the same special reward. Some rewards depend on the Delver’s Journey rank, whether the Delve is Bountiful and whether the character has fulfilled the relevant seasonal unlock.
Recommended Item Level for Each Delve Tier
Blizzard’s recommended item level is a useful starting point, but it is not a strict entry requirement. Class, specialization, defensive cooldowns, companion setup and encounter knowledge can make a larger difference than a small item-level gap.

For most characters, Tier 8 is more important than rushing straight into Tier 11. A reliable Tier 8 Bountiful Delve generates consistent progress, advances the World Vault row and allows you to spend keys without turning every run into a recovery exercise.
Tier 8 or Tier 11: Which Delve Should You Run?
Choose Tier 8 when you want the highest regular Great Vault reward and a dependable Bountiful Coffer. Choose Tier 11 when you are specifically pursuing higher seasonal progression, additional crest rewards or the challenge of the top Delve tiers.
- Choose Tier 8 for consistent weekly Vault progress and efficient gearing.
- Choose Tier 9 or higher when you need the additional seasonal rewards tied to advanced Delves.
- Choose Tier 11 when your character can complete it reliably and you want the highest available Delve progression rewards.
- Do not save every key automatically if delaying the run prevents you from completing the weekly activity.
The best practical route is to reach Tier 8 first, use your Bountiful keys there while improving your gear, and then move into higher tiers once the additional rewards justify the increased difficulty.
How Delves Compare with Mythic+ and Raid Gear
Delves are designed to provide a solo or small-group gearing route rather than to replace the highest raid and Mythic+ rewards. Their strongest value is the combination of accessible gear, weekly Vault progression and upgrade materials.

Delve rewards and Mythic+ rewards do not share the same Great Vault row. Completing eight Delves does not unlock a Dungeon-row reward, and completing eight Mythic+ dungeons does not improve the World-row reward.
Midnight Season 2 Delves and the Coiled Isle
Season 2 adds three Delve locations connected to the Coiled Isle:
- The Ring of Glory;
- Gnarldor Isle; and
- Venomfall Deeps, the Season 2 Nemesis Delve.
Venomfall Deeps is distinct from ordinary Delves because it is built around the seasonal Nemesis encounter. Nemesis content can have separate difficulty requirements and achievement rewards, so it should not be treated as a normal replacement for the standard Tier 8–11 Delve loop.
The new Delves also complement the existing Midnight Delve pool, which receives new snake- and venom-themed variants during Season 2.
Best Weekly Delve Checklist
- Unlock the highest Delve tier your character can complete consistently.
- Prioritize Bountiful Delves when you have Restored Coffer Keys.
- Complete two high-tier activities to secure the first World Vault slot.
- Continue toward four and eight total activities if you want additional choices.
- Check the Great Vault tooltip to confirm that each slot has reached the desired item level.
- Use Tier 8 as the baseline for maximum standard Delve Vault rewards.
- Push Tiers 9–11 for crest and seasonal rewards once your clear rate is reliable.
- Compare Vault items against tier-set bonuses before selecting a reward.
- Spend keys on the tier you can finish successfully rather than risking repeated failed runs.
Common Delve Loot Mistakes
- Assuming Tier 11 gives a higher regular Vault item than Tier 8. The main Delve Vault breakpoint is Tier 8.
- Counting all world activities as equivalent. Prey hunts, assignments and other activities can count toward the World row, but their reward level may differ from a high-tier Delve.
- Using a key before reaching the intended tier. A Restored Coffer Key is consumed for the Bountiful Coffer, so use it when the reward level is worthwhile.
- Ignoring the tier-set bonus. A lower item-level tier piece can be better than a small upgrade to a non-set item.
- Expecting a specific boss item. Great Vault rewards are random selections from the eligible reward pool.
- Treating recommended item level as a hard requirement. Your build, companion configuration and ability to manage mechanics matter just as much.
