Need Help with Mythic+ Progress?

Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ rewards are substantially higher than the Season 1 values that appeared in the earlier version of this guide. The current Patch 12.1 reward table starts at item level 295 from a +2 and reaches 311 Hero 3/6 for standard end-of-dungeon loot at +10 and above. The highest standard Mythic+ Great Vault reward starts at +10 and is item level 318, Myth 1/6.

Mythic+ Season 2 begins during the week of August 18, 2026 in North America. European realms receive the corresponding weekly reset on August 19. Blizzard has also confirmed that Season 2 Great Vault gear begins with the same seasonal reset.

Fast answer: run at least a +10 if your goal is the highest standard Mythic+ Vault item level. A +10 gives 311 Hero 3/6 end-of-dungeon gear and qualifies the relevant Vault slot for 318 Myth 1/6. Going above +10 remains valuable for rating, challenge, Resilient Keystone progression and other seasonal goals, but the published standard item-level table does not increase beyond the +10 reward tier.

Important: current Season 2 sources confirm the type of Mistcrest earned at each key range, but the exact number of Mistcrests awarded per keystone level has not been finalized in the public reward table. For that reason, this guide does not repeat the old Season 1 crest amounts.

The three columns players most often confuse are:

  • End-of-dungeon: the item level of standard loot from the completed key.
  • Mistcrest: the upgrade-currency tier earned from that keystone range.
  • Great Vault: the weekly reward level generated by an eligible dungeon slot.

For the complete Season 2 upgrade-track ladder, crest ranges, raid comparison and Week 1 gearing route, use the Midnight Season 2 Gearing Guide.

Highest Mythic+ Item Level in Midnight Season 2

The maximum standard Mythic+ rewards are reached at the following breakpoints:

  • Highest standard end-of-dungeon item: item level 311, Hero 3/6, from +10 or higher.
  • Highest standard Mythic+ Great Vault item: item level 318, Myth 1/6, from +10 or higher.
  • Myth Mistcrest breakpoint: +9 and higher.
  • First Hero-track end-of-dungeon item: +6, item level 305, Hero 1/6.
  • First Myth-track dungeon Vault reward: +10, item level 318, Myth 1/6.

This makes +10 the central gearing breakpoint. A +9 is useful because it begins awarding Myth Mistcrests, but its Great Vault reward remains 315 Hero 4/6. You need a +10 to move the dungeon Vault reward onto the Myth track.

Key-Level Breakpoints That Actually Matter

Key levelWhy it matters
+2Entry point for Season 2 Mythic+ rewards: 295 Champion 2/6 direct loot and 305 Hero 1/6 Vault.
+4Hero Mistcrests begin; direct loot increases to 298 Champion 3/6.
+6First Hero-track direct drop at 305 Hero 1/6; Vault becomes 311 Hero 3/6.
+7Great Vault reaches 315 Hero 4/6.
+8Direct dungeon loot improves to 308 Hero 2/6.
+9Myth Mistcrests begin, although the Vault is still 315 Hero 4/6.
+10Maximum published standard reward tier: 311 Hero 3/6 direct loot and 318 Myth 1/6 Vault. Timed +10s also unlock the individual Season 2 dungeon portals.
+12No higher standard item level, but Xal'atath's Guile replaces the Bargain affix and the Resilient Keystone progression begins at timed +12s.

How the Mythic+ Great Vault Works in Season 2

Mythic+ contributes to the Dungeons row of the Great Vault. You can unlock up to three dungeon choices by completing:

Weekly dungeon completionsVault choices unlockedReward level is based on
1First Dungeon slotYour highest qualifying run
4Second Dungeon slotYour fourth-highest qualifying run
8Third Dungeon slotYour eighth-highest qualifying run

The order in which you complete keys does not matter. What matters is the final set of qualifying runs before the weekly reset. This means that one +10 followed by seven +2s creates a strong first choice but a weak second and third choice. If you want three high-quality Vault options, your fourth-highest and eighth-highest runs must also be strong.

Updated Great Vault example

Suppose your eight qualifying runs are:

+10, +9, +9, +7, +7, +6, +6, +5.

  • First slot: +10 → item level 318, Myth 1/6.
  • Second slot: fourth-highest run is +7 → item level 315, Hero 4/6.
  • Third slot: eighth-highest run is +5 → item level 308, Hero 2/6.

To improve the third slot, replace the +5 with a higher completed key. To improve the second slot, your fourth-highest result must rise. Lower runs completed later do not erase a better result already recorded for the week.

Mistcrests from Mythic+ in Season 2

Midnight Season 2 replaces the Season 1 Dawncrest progression with the new Mistcrest tiers. The Mythic+ source ranges are straightforward:

  • +2 to +3: Champion Mistcrests.
  • +4 to +8: Hero Mistcrests.
  • +9 and higher: Myth Mistcrests.

The public Season 2 loot table has not confirmed exact Mistcrest quantities per individual keystone level, so any table that still lists values such as “10 / 12 / 14 / 16 Dawncrests” is carrying Season 1 information into Season 2.

Nebulous Voidcores and Mythic+ Bonus Rolls

Nebulous Voidcores remain part of the Season 2 gearing system. Blizzard has confirmed that they are available as a Great Vault alternative from the beginning of Season 2. After Orin Straylight's research period, an additional weekly Voidcore becomes available starting in the eighth week of the season.

The most important rule for Mythic+ players is that gear obtained with a Nebulous Voidcore is aligned with the equivalent Great Vault reward level for that content. This makes high-key bonus rolls especially valuable when a dungeon contains a high-priority weapon or trinket.

Completed keyEquivalent Vault / bonus-roll power
+2 to +3305 Hero 1/6
+4 to +5308 Hero 2/6
+6311 Hero 3/6
+7 to +9315 Hero 4/6
+10 and higher318 Myth 1/6

Use a Voidcore only after checking your active loot specialization and the relevant dungeon loot table. A high-value +10 bonus roll is generally more efficient than spending the same opportunity on a low-level temporary upgrade.

Can Mythic+ Great Vault Rewards Contain Tier Set Gear?

Yes. Dungeon Great Vault slots can offer class-set armor. Tier pieces are not normal end-of-dungeon Mythic+ drops, so the Vault and the Catalyst are important paths for players who do not raid every week.

For all Season 2 set bonuses, token bosses and Catalyst rules, see the Midnight Season 2 Tier Set Guide.

How to Target Specific Mythic+ Loot

For direct farming, the dungeon itself remains the most controllable variable: run the dungeon that contains the weapon, trinket, ring or armor piece you need. The reward is still random, but narrowing the eligible dungeon loot table is more efficient than farming unrelated keys.

  1. Identify the dungeon that contains your target item.
  2. Set the correct loot specialization before the run or before using a bonus roll.
  3. Run the highest key level your group can complete consistently.
  4. Reach +8 if you want 308 Hero 2/6 direct drops.
  5. Reach +10 when you want the maximum standard 311 Hero 3/6 direct reward and 318 Myth 1/6 Vault/bonus-roll power.
  6. Keep your fourth-highest and eighth-highest runs high if weekly Vault selection quality matters.

If you want a commercial gearing route rather than manual dungeon farming, use the WoW Gear category. For timed keys, rating, x4/x8 weekly packages and Great Vault progress, use the WoW Mythic+ services category. These are intentionally placed only where they match the user's gearing intent rather than repeated throughout the guide.

Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ Dungeon Pool

The Season 2 pool contains eight dungeons:

  • Altar of Fangs
  • Murder Row
  • Den of Nalorakk
  • The Blinding Vale
  • Voidscar Arena
  • Ruby Life Pools
  • King's Rest
  • Temple of Sethraliss

The specific dungeon matters for which items you can farm, while the keystone level determines the item level and upgrade track shown in the reward table above.

What Changes at +10 and +12?

Why +10 is the gearing target

+10 is the first key level that gives the maximum published standard end-of-dungeon reward, the maximum standard dungeon Great Vault reward, and Myth-track Vault gear. Blizzard also confirmed that timing each individual Season 2 dungeon on +10 or higher unlocks its permanent dungeon portal.

Why players still push +12 and higher

Higher keys remain relevant even though the standard item-level table stops improving after +10. At +12, the seasonal Bargain affix is replaced by Xal'atath's Guile, deaths become more punishing, and timed +12 completions begin the Resilient Keystone achievement progression. Above that, players push primarily for rating, leaderboard position, achievements and challenge rather than higher standard loot.

Ascendant Venomstones: Another Reason to Run +10 Later in the Season

Blizzard has confirmed that Ascendant Venomstones return later in Season 2. Once active, +10 or higher Mythic+ completions are one of their guaranteed sources. Ten Venomstones are required to upgrade an eligible item, and the system applies to fully upgraded Hero/Myth or equivalent crafted weapons, trinkets and necklaces, pushing them toward the special extended Myth item-level range.

This means +10 is not only the Vault breakpoint. Later in the season it also becomes a recurring source for one of the most valuable endgame upgrade materials.

Best Weekly Mythic+ Plan by Goal

Fresh or returning character

Start with +2 to +5 keys for Champion gear and early Vault unlocks. Do not overspend upgrade currency on temporary pieces if you can quickly move into +6 and higher.

Hero-track gearing

Target +6 to +9. +6 introduces Hero-track direct loot, +8 improves direct drops to 308 Hero 2/6, and +9 starts Myth Mistcrest income.

Maximum Mythic+ Vault reward

Complete at least one +10. For three strong choices, do not stop at “eight total runs”; aim to keep the fourth-highest and eighth-highest completions near +10 as well.

Rating and high-key progression

After +10, gear is no longer the main reason to raise the key. +12 and above are about rating, Resilient Keystone progression, seasonal affix difficulty and competitive pushing.

Common Mythic+ Loot Mistakes in Season 2

  • Using Season 1 item levels: 250-266 direct loot and 259-272 Vault rewards are old Season 1 values.
  • Using Dawncrest amounts: Season 2 uses Mistcrests, and exact per-key quantities are not yet confirmed in the current public table.
  • Stopping at +9 for Myth gear: +9 gives Myth Mistcrests, but the Vault remains Hero 4/6. Myth 1/6 starts at +10.
  • Ignoring the fourth and eighth runs: they determine your second and third dungeon Vault choices.
  • Assuming +12 gives higher standard ilvl than +10: the current published reward table keeps +10, +11 and +12+ at the same standard item levels.
  • Spending Voidcores without checking loot specialization: use bonus rolls where the eligible loot pool contains a meaningful long-term upgrade.
  • Breaking a 4-piece set for a small direct-drop upgrade: compare the full build before replacing tier gear.
