Corrosive Souls unlock permanent Corrosive Gifts in World of Warcraft: Midnight Season 2, giving your Warband extra power in Midnight outdoor content and Delves. The most efficient farming approach combines guaranteed weekly rewards with progression unlocks that add daily and repeatable sources. The often-quoted six Souls per week covers only three guaranteed activities; it is not an overall earning cap.
Last updated: 19.09.2026. Checked weekly rewards, Ral'kala's Rank 3 daily bonus, Zul'jarra's Forces Renown 4, Delver's Journey Rank 2 and the latest Satchel of Corrosive Coins hotfix.
What do Corrosive Souls buy? Permanent Warband-wide Corrosive Gift unlocks, costing eight Souls each. Surplus Souls can also be converted into Corrosive Coins or Undercoin.
Can alts help? Yes. Souls bind to your Warband, and many weekly and daily sources are available per eligible character. The Corrosive Reticule is an exception because its live purchase is limited account-wide.
Where should you start? Complete available fixed rewards before spending a session chasing random drops.
What Are Corrosive Souls in WoW Midnight?
A Corrosive Soul is a Warband-bound inventory item that requires level 90 and is used to unlock Corrosive Gifts at the Altar of Corrosion. Although players commonly call it a currency, you hold it in your bags. Corrosive Coins and Undercoin belong to separate progression systems, so having either currency does not replace the Souls needed for Codex unlocks.
Think of the farming goal as reaching your next useful unlock. Corrosive Gift unlocks are shared across your Warband, so before starting a long session, check your existing balance and count the powers already available. For recommendations on which effects to choose, use our Corrosive Codex powers and combinations guide.
Weekly Corrosive Souls Sources
Four reliable weekly payouts provide a practical starting checklist for eligible level-90 characters. Track each reward separately and distinguish first-weekly-completion rewards from sources that can continue to drop Souls under other rules.
| Source | Souls | Reward condition |
|---|---|---|
| Nymrissa Wavecaller | 3 | First eligible defeat of the week |
| Purging the Vaults | 2 | Weekly quest completion |
| Ancient Foe in the Vaults of Atal'Utek | 1 | First defeat of the week |
| Turn Back the Surge / Venom-Covered Chest | 2 | Complete the weekly quest by defeating three Curse Surges and open the reward chest |
The first three entries form the six-Soul route documented in Wowhead's weekly farming report. The Turn Back the Surge reward brings this checklist to eight Souls. These figures describe specific guaranteed weekly payouts, not a cap on everything your character can earn.
Combine Purging the Vaults With an Ancient Foe
Purging the Vaults progresses through activities inside the Vaults of Atal'Utek. Work on it while joining the area's events instead of treating the quest and boss as unrelated trips. An Ancient Foe appears after a successful Temple Incursion, making that event sequence a useful point of overlap.
Check the quest log before joining a group, then stay for the follow-up encounter if you still need its weekly reward. Our Vaults of Atal'Utek guide covers the zone and its activities in more detail.

Daily Corrosive Souls: Ral'kala and Curse Surges
Daily opportunities become more valuable once their progression requirements are met. Ral'kala provides a guaranteed Rank 3 daily bonus, while the Zul'jarra's Forces Renown 4 Curse Surge benefit is chance-based, so the two should not be combined into a single guaranteed daily total.
Ral'kala After Preyhunter's Journey Rank 3
At Season 2 Preyhunter's Journey Rank 3, defeating Ral'kala awards two extra Corrosive Souls once per day, per character. Every kill also has a chance to provide an additional Soul. The rank reward is documented in Wowhead's Prey guide.
To reach this activity, complete the opening Coiled Isle campaign chapter and follow Astalor's Prey: A Slithering Threat questline. Ral'kala can be summoned at Haunted Braziers while a Nightmare-mode Hunt or Curse of the Isle is active. Players must contribute a total of 100 Ossified Relics to a Brazier to summon the boss. Budget time for obtaining relics and summoning when comparing this route with a weekly quest you can already complete.
Curse Surges After Zul'jarra's Forces Renown 4
Renown 4 gives the first Curse Surge boss you defeat each day a chance to drop a Corrosive Soul. The Zul'jarra's Forces reward description explicitly makes this a chance-based bonus. It is separate from the fixed weekly Turn Back the Surge reward in the table above.
A daily kill with no Soul does not, by itself, mean the unlock is broken. Check your Renown unlock and daily eligibility, but remember that an eligible attempt can still award nothing. Fit the attempt around reputation, quests or other island goals rather than planning your next purchase around a drop that may not happen.
Get the One-Time Corrosive Reticule
Delver's Journey Rank 2 unlocks the Corrosive Reticule from Telemancer Astrandis in Silvermoon. It costs 10 Voidlight Marl and contains six Corrosive Souls. Current live behavior limits the purchase to one per account/Warband; the early ability to buy additional copies through alts no longer applies.
Check whether you have already collected this reward before planning another purchase. Also keep its purpose clear: the Reticule only gives you Souls. Unlocking the Corrosive Codex itself still depends on the required Vaults of Atal'Utek introduction and Codex quest progression.
How to Farm Corrosive Souls Efficiently

The following order is a practical recommendation based on reward certainty and overlapping objectives. It is not a measured Souls-per-hour ranking: travel, group availability and your existing unlocks all affect the result.
- Set a stopping point. Work out how many Souls your next purchase needs and check your other characters before farming more.
- Collect an available one-time reward. An unclaimed Reticule can close a small shortfall without a random-drop session.
- Finish fixed weekly rewards. Combine the Vaults quest and event sequence, then complete the other outstanding entries.
- Use unlocked daily opportunities. Prioritize Ral'kala's guaranteed Rank 3 daily bonus when accessible, then take chance-based Curse Surge attempts alongside other objectives.
- Rotate to a prepared alt. Compare its remaining per-character rewards with the time required to unlock or reach them.
- Use random drops as a bonus. Continue only while the surrounding activity remains useful to you.
Coiled Isle rares can supply additional Souls, but their drops are unreliable. Blizzard also lists Bountiful Delves and Prey Hunts among Corrosive Soul sources, but do not assume that every run or every reward bag guarantees a Soul. The Corrosive Souls Tracker provides a community checklist, though an addon label should not override the current in-game reward requirement.
For manual tracking, keep one row per character with columns for the activity, whether its reward was claimed, and your bag balance. Recording the reward itself is more useful than recording only that you killed a boss: repeat attempts and first-completion payouts can follow different rules.
How Many Corrosive Souls Do You Need?
Each Gift costs eight Souls. Unlocking eight different Gifts opens the second active slot, representing 64 Souls of unlock spending. The complete collection contains 12 Gifts, or 96 Souls in total. These totals describe purchases; your remaining farming requirement depends on what your Warband has already unlocked.
For example, five unlocked Gifts leave three more purchases before the second slot. That is 24 Souls, and a current balance of seven reduces the remaining shortfall to 17. Counting from your actual progress gives you a useful target without assuming every player starts from zero.
Buying two Gifts alone does not provide two simultaneous effects. Keep that distinction in mind when planning a combination: owning the desired pair and unlocking eight different Gifts for the extra active slot are separate milestones.
Where to Spend Corrosive Souls
The Altar of Corrosion handles Gift unlocks. If you have Souls but cannot access the system, first complete Vaults of Atal'Utek: The Altar of Corrosion. The Codex of the Soul Coilers that starts Corrosive Gifts: Corrosive Power only becomes available after that prerequisite. Bring the Codex to the Altar to unlock access to Corrosive Gifts.
For surplus Souls, Er'inye offers the Satchel of Corrosive Coins after you have unlocked eight Corrosive Powers. One Soul buys a Satchel with a base value of 100 Corrosive Coins before applicable Coin-earning bonuses. The September 15 hotfix removed the Satchel's Unique restriction, so multiple Satchels can now be purchased and stacked. There is also a Delve-oriented alternative: Naleidea Rivergleam in Silvermoon exchanges one Soul for a Delver's Corroded Pouch of Undercoin containing 150 Undercoin.
If your next objective is the separate Coin progression, ExpCarry's Corrosive Coins farming service covers that resource. Confirm the requested activity and resource when arranging assistance: Coin farming and Soul-based Gift unlocks are different goals.
Corrosive Souls FAQ
These distinctions help avoid the most common mistakes when choosing activities and counting progress.
Is There a Six-Soul Weekly Cap?
No. Six is the combined guaranteed reward from one commonly quoted three-activity route. Turn Back the Surge and other unlocked or chance-based sources have their own eligibility and reward rules.
Can You Transfer Corrosive Souls to Alts?
Yes. The item binds to your Warband, so Souls collected on eligible characters contribute to the same Warband progression. Because Souls are inventory items, look for them in your bags rather than expecting a normal currency-tab balance.
Why Did a Curse Surge Boss Drop No Soul?
The Renown 4 daily benefit gives your first Curse Surge boss of the day only a chance to drop a Soul. Check the unlock and daily eligibility, but remember that an eligible attempt can still award nothing.
Should You Farm Rares Until You Have Enough?
Rares are reasonable extras while completing nearby objectives. For a planned unlock, finish accessible guaranteed rewards first so your entire session does not depend on low-probability drops.
Conclusion
A good Corrosive Souls routine has a clear endpoint. Choose the unlock that will improve the content you actually play, collect the guaranteed rewards that fit your schedule, use daily and random sources to close the remaining gap, and stop when you reach your target. That approach is more efficient than farming low-chance drops without knowing exactly what your next eight Souls will unlock.
