Vaults of Atal’Utek is a group-focused activity in the Coiled Isle, the new outdoor zone from the Curse of Ula’tek content update. Players enter the vaults to complete rotating public events, fight through hostile Amani and venomous forces, and eventually confront a boss encounter. The activity also contributes to seasonal achievements and offers collectible rewards, including the Venomous Coiler mount from the meta-achievement Assault the Vault.
The vaults are not the same content as the eight-boss Venomous Abyss raid. The Vaults of Atal’Utek are an outdoor group activity with rotating events and boss encounters, while the Venomous Abyss is the separate Season 2 raid inside the same corrupted complex.

How to Unlock the Vaults of Atal’Utek
Access to the Vaults of Atal’Utek is tied to the Curse of Ula’tek content update and the introductory story of the Coiled Isle. Players first travel to the island as the fog surrounding the area lifts and the story of Zul’jan and Zul’jarra continues.
Complete the opening Coiled Isle campaign quests before attempting to farm the vault activities. The campaign introduces the island’s central systems, opens access to its activity areas and explains the conflict surrounding the sealed prison of Ula’tek.
The exact quest name used to unlock every Vaults of Atal’Utek activity has not been finalized in the current test build. The PTR contains the quest Vaults of Atal’Utek: Certain Doom, which sends players to investigate the fate of several Amani scouts, including Hawkeye Socho, Naz’ara the Brave and Commander Gazba.
Once the relevant campaign progression is complete, the vault entrance becomes the main access point for the activity. Blizzard has also described summoning stones and fixed encounter locations intended to make it easier for players to gather groups for the bosses.

How the Vaults of Atal’Utek Activity Works
The activity follows a public-event structure rather than a conventional dungeon layout. Players enter the vault complex, participate in whichever event is active, and help progress the assault against the forces of Ula’tek.
- Travel to the Coiled Isle and complete the introductory campaign requirements.
- Enter the Vaults of Atal’Utek through the access point in the island’s mountain.
- Join the active public event and complete its objectives.
- Defeat the enemies and event targets that appear during the activity.
- Continue participating until the event chain reaches its boss encounter.
- Defeat the boss and collect the available completion rewards.
Public events are designed to support players arriving at different times. You do not need to form a full premade group before entering the area, although a coordinated group can make elite enemies and boss phases easier to handle.
The events rotate, so the objective and enemy composition may differ between visits. The current PTR achievement data identifies several event themes, but the final event schedule, rotation rules and contribution requirements are not yet fully documented.
Vaults of Atal’Utek Public Events
The current achievement structure identifies ten event-related objectives connected to the Vaults of Atal’Utek. These objectives are associated with the Assault the Vault meta-achievement and indicate the range of activities taking place inside the complex.
| PTR objective | What it represents |
|---|---|
| Roll the Patrol | A patrol-focused activity involving enemies moving through the vaults |
| Submerge the Incursion | An incursion event connected to the flooded or venomous areas of the vault |
| A Lone Wanderer | An encounter involving an isolated target or event objective |
| Ritual Behavior | A ritual-themed event involving hostile forces inside the vault |
| The Honored Dead | An event tied to the spirits, remains or memorials found in Atal’Utek |
| Spike the Strike | A combat objective involving a strike or assault against the enemy |
| Oppose the Foes | A direct confrontation with the forces defending the vaults |
| Dance While Everyone Watches | An event objective with a movement or positioning component |
| Soft Underbelly | An objective involving a vulnerable point or exposed target |
| Fully Corroded | An objective connected to corruption, venom or the vault’s corrosive environment |
These achievement names should be treated as objective references rather than complete mechanic descriptions. The current PTR does not provide enough finalized information to publish a reliable role-by-role strategy for each event. Avoid assuming that an event requires a particular class, interrupt rotation or damage pattern until the live objectives are confirmed.
Vaults of Atal’Utek Bosses
Public events inside the vaults ultimately build toward a boss fight. Blizzard’s official preview describes the encounters as taking place at specific locations, where players can select the difficulty and use the summoning stone to bring additional players to the group.
The Vaults of Atal’Utek boss roster and final mechanics are not yet sufficiently documented for a complete boss-by-boss strategy guide. The current PTR confirms the activity structure, but it does not provide a finalized list of every rotating public-event boss, their loot tables or their live difficulty scaling.
For launch preparation, treat the bosses as open-world group encounters rather than raid bosses. Bring enough players to handle elite enemies, keep defensive cooldowns available for major area attacks and avoid standing in venomous ground effects. The island’s content is built around poisonous waters, corrupted creatures and the influence of Ula’tek, so movement and environmental awareness are expected to be important.
Do the Vaults of Atal’Utek bosses count as raid bosses?
No. The vault bosses are part of the Coiled Isle public-event system. They are separate from the eight bosses in the Venomous Abyss raid, which opens with Midnight Season 2. Do not use the raid’s boss list as a substitute for the Vaults of Atal’Utek encounter list.
Vaults of Atal’Utek Rewards
The activity provides several reward categories: event completion rewards, seasonal quest rewards, achievement progress, collectible items and potential gear or other items from the final encounter. Exact quantities, item levels and drop tables remain subject to confirmation from the live version.
Spoils of the Vaults
Spoils of the Vaults is a seasonal quest connected to participation in Vaults of Atal’Utek activities. Its objective is to help purge the temple inside the vault complex. The current PTR version awards experience and a quest reward, but the final live contents of the reward package should be checked after Patch 12.1 launches.
This quest is separate from the Great Vault. Completing Vaults of Atal’Utek activities may contribute to the World section of the Great Vault if Blizzard assigns the activity that type of credit, but the current information does not establish the final credit rules or reward level.
Venomous Coiler mount
The most clearly identified long-term reward is the Venomous Coiler mount. It is awarded for completing Assault the Vault, the meta-achievement that requires completing the listed Vaults of Atal’Utek achievements.
The achievement requires ten criteria in the current PTR build:
- Roll the Patrol
- Submerge the Incursion
- A Lone Wanderer
- Ritual Behavior
- The Honored Dead
- Spike the Strike
- Oppose the Foes
- Dance While Everyone Watches
- Soft Underbelly
- Fully Corroded
The Venomous Coiler is an achievement reward, not a guaranteed boss drop. Completing a particular event does not directly guarantee the mount; the full achievement criteria must be completed.
Other reward categories
PTR information and the activity’s surrounding systems indicate that players should also expect rewards connected to the wider Coiled Isle progression, such as collectibles, cosmetic items, experience and seasonal quest currency or items. The final reward table should not be confused with rewards from the Venomous Abyss raid, the Altar of Fangs dungeon or the new Delves.
| Reward type | Source | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Venomous Coiler | Assault the Vault meta-achievement | Achievement reward |
| Quest rewards and experience | Spoils of the Vaults | Seasonal quest reward |
| Event completion rewards | Rotating public events and final encounters | Exact live contents require confirmation |
| Cosmetic or collectible items | Vault activities, achievements or associated vendors | Specific sources require live verification |
| Gear | Potential event or boss rewards | Final item levels and drop rules require confirmation |
How Vaults of Atal’Utek Fits Into Midnight Season 2
Vaults of Atal’Utek belongs to the Curse of Ula’tek content update, while several related activities begin with Midnight Season 2 one week after the update launches. Season 2 adds the Venomous Abyss raid, the Altar of Fangs Mythic+ dungeon, a new Mythic+ rotation, a new PvP season, additional Prey content and Bountiful Delves.
This distinction matters when planning your weekly activities. You can use the Coiled Isle campaign and Vaults of Atal’Utek to become familiar with the zone before the full Season 2 endgame ecosystem opens. However, do not assume that every Season 2 reward, raid lockout or Mythic+ system is available immediately with the first Curse of Ula’tek content.
Practical Preparation for the Vaults
- Complete the Coiled Isle introduction first. The campaign establishes access to the island and its progression systems.
- Bring movement and defensive tools. The zone is built around venomous enemies, hazardous terrain and group encounters.
- Join the active event rather than waiting for a perfect group. The activity is designed around open-world participation.
- Read the objective text. Achievement names alone do not explain the final live mechanics.
- Keep track of achievement progress. The Venomous Coiler requires completion of the full Assault the Vault achievement.
- Separate vault rewards from raid rewards. The Venomous Abyss has its own bosses, loot table and Season 2 progression.
- Do not spend unverified currencies based on PTR assumptions. Vendor costs, caps and reward quantities can change before launch.
Common Mistakes in Vaults of Atal’Utek
- Confusing Atal’Utek with the Venomous Abyss. They are related locations but separate activities.
- Expecting a fixed event order. The vaults use rotating public events, so the active objective can change.
- Assuming the mount is a boss drop. The Venomous Coiler comes from the Assault the Vault achievement.
- Ignoring the campaign. The zone’s systems and access requirements are introduced through the Coiled Isle story.
- Treating PTR reward quantities as final. The final live item levels, drop rules and reward quantities still require confirmation.
- Trying to solo every objective. Some encounters are specifically designed around open-world group participation.
Related Curse of Ula’tек Content
Vaults of Atal’Utek is one part of the Coiled Isle ecosystem. The island also contains public events, Curse Surges, Cursed Fishing, rare enemies and progression connected to the Altar of Corrosion. The same update adds three Delves: The Ring of Glory, Gnarldor Isle and the Venomfall Deeps Nemesis Delve.
For organized endgame groups, the most important related activity is the Venomous Abyss raid, which contains eight boss encounters and opens with Midnight Season 2. Players looking for five-player content can prepare for the Altar of Fangs dungeon, which becomes part of the Mythic+ rotation when Season 2 begins.
