Dusty Redcap is not a battle pet by itself. It is one of five different Redcaps required to wake the hidden Sleepy Mandrake and add it to your WoW battle pet collection.

How to Get the Dusty Redcap
Follow these steps to reach the Dusty Redcap without searching every chamber of Vilaldoun:
- Wait until Naigtal is active. Naigtal and Val alternate through the Void Invasion rotation. If the portal currently leads to Val, the Dusty Redcap cannot be reached until Naigtal becomes active.
- Enter Naigtal. Use the Greater Void Portal in Voidstorm after completing the introductory unlock for the active Void Invasion zone.
- Select Normal World Tier. The selected World Tier does not change the collectible or pet reward, so Normal is the fastest and least dangerous choice.
- Travel to western Naigtal. Go to the Vilaldoun Crypt entrance at
/way #2600 27.91 49.96. - Enter the crypt. Your map changes from Naigtal map ID
#2600to the Vilaldoun interior map ID#2646. - Descend to the deepest level. Continue through the lower chambers instead of searching near the entrance floor.
- Collect the mushroom. The Dusty Redcap is located near
/way #2646 22.72 61.30in the rear section of the lowest crypt level.
The item is Unique and binds when picked up. Once it is in your bags, keep it until you feed it to the Sleepy Mandrake.

What Is the Dusty Redcap Used For?
The Dusty Redcap is part of a hidden five-item collection puzzle. Each Redcap has the same distinctive description referring to a smell powerful enough to wake the dead. That description is the clue: the mushrooms are used to wake the sleeping mandrake hidden elsewhere in Naigtal.
You need the following five items:
- Highland Redcap
- Dusty Redcap
- Marshy Redcap
- Partially-Digested Redcap
- Airy Redcap
Four are collected from clickable objects. The Partially-Digested Redcap is a creature drop. After feeding all five varieties to the mandrake, you can pot the creature and receive the Sleepy Mandrake battle pet.

How to Get the Airy Redcap
The Airy Redcap is normally the most confusing part of the Sleepy Mandrake puzzle. It sits on top of a large mushroom in a zone where flying and Skyriding are disabled.
The current intended route uses traversal abilities unlocked through Naigtal quests:
- Bouncy Mushrooms launch your character between elevated platforms.
- Aerospores provide additional airborne movement points.
- The Grappler pulls your character toward marked grapple targets.
Start near /way #2600 89.31 29.49 and follow the bouncing mushrooms upward. Use the available spores and grappling points to continue climbing until you reach the largest mushroom. The Airy Redcap is at approximately /way #2600 95.09 26.67.
Older routes used movement toys, gliders, class abilities, or other unintended shortcuts. Those methods are no longer necessary once the current zone traversal abilities are unlocked.
How to Farm the Partially-Digested Redcap
The Partially-Digested Redcap is the only item in the set that is not collected from a fixed object. It has a chance to drop from fungal creatures in Naigtal.
Useful targets include:
- Fungal Giant
- Fungal Strider
- Interminable Uarn
- Lomelith
- Slaipaan
- Swalewing Matriarch
Fungal rares appear to be useful targets because they provide a stronger individual drop opportunity, but ordinary fungal enemies can also drop the item. Farm in areas with several fungal spawns instead of waiting exclusively for one rare creature.
There is no need to use Heroic World Tier for this item. Normal World Tier provides the same pet progression and makes repeated creature farming faster.
How to Get the Sleepy Mandrake Pet
After collecting the five Redcaps, travel to the sleeping mandrake at:

The mandrake is found inside a small cave, sleeping on a pile of bones. Interact with it repeatedly and select every available feeding option.
- Feed the Highland Redcap.
- Feed the Dusty Redcap.
- Feed the Marshy Redcap.
- Feed the Partially-Digested Redcap.
- Feed the Airy Redcap.
- Interact with the mandrake again after all five feeding flags have been completed.
- Select the final option to pot the creature.
- Use the resulting Sleepy Mandrake item to add the battle pet to your collection.
The order in which you feed the mushrooms does not matter. What matters is that the game records all five different Redcap types.
Can You Use Multiple Characters?
Yes. The Redcap items themselves are Soulbound, but the hidden feeding progress is tracked across your Warband. This allows one character to feed some mushrooms and another character to complete the remaining steps.
This is especially useful for the Airy Redcap. A character with convenient movement abilities can collect and feed that mushroom without forcing the character holding the other four Redcaps to complete the climbing route.
You do not need to mail the mushrooms between characters, and you do not need to hold all five in one character’s bags at the same time. Each item must simply be fed to the mandrake on your account.
Common Dusty Redcap Problems
Naigtal Is Not Available
Naigtal and Val rotate. If the Void Portal currently opens Val, wait until Naigtal becomes the active invasion zone.
The Coordinate Points to the Wrong Place
The entrance and mushroom use different map IDs. Use #2600 outside the crypt and #2646 after entering Vilaldoun.
The Dusty Redcap Is Not Near the Entrance
Continue to the deepest lower level of the crypt. Searching the entrance floor or the first large chamber will not bring you to the correct location.
I Cannot Reach the Airy Redcap
Complete the Naigtal traversal unlocks for Bouncy Mushrooms, Aerospores, and The Grappler. The current route is designed around these abilities.
The Mandrake Does Not Give Me the Pet
Interact with the mandrake and check whether one of the five feeding dialogue options is still available. The final potting option only appears after all five unique Redcaps have been recorded.
I Collected Redcaps on Different Characters
That is supported. Visit the mandrake on each character holding a missing Redcap and feed it. The hidden progression is Warband-wide.
