WoW Forever Blackfathom Deeps Quests Guide

WoW Forever Blackfathom Deeps Quests Guide

Blackfathom Deeps quests in WoW Forever include Alliance and Horde objectives, faction-specific chains, item-started quests and additional tasks for Warlocks and Paladins. The dungeon is available in the October 2026 beta, which remains capped at level 30 following Blizzard's October 15 update. Players can begin collecting certain BFD quests from level 10, although a practical first full clear is better suited to a group in the mid-to-late 20s. Alliance characters should prepare Knowledge in the Deeps, Researching the Corruption, Twilight Falls and In Search of Thaelrid before entering, while Horde characters should complete their Zoram'gar prerequisites. Several objectives are located in the caves outside the instance, and others must be accepted or triggered during the run. This guide covers the quest requirements, starting NPCs, objectives, rewards and preparation needed to avoid unnecessary return trips.

Short answer: Prepare your faction's Blackfathom Deeps quests before entering, collect available outdoor objectives on Zoram Strand and accept the relevant quests inside BFD. Alliance players should visit Ironforge, Darkshore and Darnassus; Horde players should prepare at Zoram'gar Outpost, while Warlocks and Paladins must also collect their class-specific objectives.

Blackfathom Deeps Quest Overview and Level Requirements

Blackfathom Deeps is located in northwestern Ashenvale at Zoram Strand. The dungeon's traditional level range is approximately 24–32, although the current WoW Forever beta allows characters to progress only to level 30. Quest minimum levels are separate from the recommended level for completing the dungeon, so accepting an early quest does not necessarily mean a character can safely complete a full clear at that level.

Current Forever quest guides document 13 principal BFD-related quest entries when the two faction-specific Paladin gem quests and the shared Warlock quest are included. Some of these are steps within longer chains rather than separate dungeon-clearing assignments. The tables below distinguish objectives that require entering the instance from those available in the surrounding caves.

The broader WoW Forever Dungeon Quests Guide covers quest preparation across all available dungeons. This page focuses on the complete Blackfathom Deeps checklist, including the prerequisites and objectives that must be completed in the correct order.

October 2026 beta: Blizzard confirmed BFD as available for testing in its October 1 development notes. The October 15 build did not announce a higher level cap or a BFD quest overhaul. The extra experience awarded by dungeon quests was reduced on October 1, while experience from killing dungeon creatures increased by approximately 20% on October 8. These are different changes and should not be combined into a single quest XP modifier. Some Forever quest database entries also contain additional rewards not shown in older dungeon summaries.

All Alliance Blackfathom Deeps Quests

Alliance players can prepare most of their BFD objectives before entering the dungeon. The main quest givers are in Ironforge, Auberdine and Darnassus, while Blackfathom Villainy begins with Argent Guard Thaelrid inside BFD. Alliance Paladins have an additional Kor Gem objective tied to their class weapon chain.

*The Forever dungeon overview and Icy Veins list level 10 for Knowledge in the Deeps, while the detailed text of the Wowhead dungeon overview says level 19. This discrepancy remains in the published guides. Level 10 is the value shown in the current quick-reference tables, but the beta quest giver should be checked before relying on it for a low-level character.

Knowledge in the Deeps: Lorgalis Manuscript

Knowledge in the Deeps starts with Gerrig Bonegrip in the Forlorn Cavern of Ironforge, approximately /way 50 5. The objective is to recover the Lorgalis Manuscript from a chest underwater near the early turtle area of Blackfathom Deeps. The chest is located north of Ghamoo-ra's area, so players should search the nearby submerged section before moving deeper into the instance.

The quest rewards the Sustaining Ring. There is no confirmed additional prerequisite chain in the current Forever quest reference. The main preparation is accepting the quest in Ironforge before traveling to Ashenvale, since returning to the city during a dungeon run would create an unnecessary detour.

Researching the Corruption: Eight Brain Stems

Researching the Corruption is obtained from Gershala Nightwhisper in Auberdine, Darkshore, around /way 38 43. The associated breadcrumb, The Corruption Abroad, begins with Argos Nightwhisper in Stormwind Park and sends the player to Gershala. Older quest references indicate the breadcrumb may be skippable if Gershala already offers the main quest, so check the NPC directly before making an extra journey to Stormwind.

The objective is to collect 8 Corrupted Brain Stems from naga and satyr around Blackfathom Deeps. Eligible enemies can be encountered both in the exterior caves and inside the dungeon. Since the materials come from enemy loot and are not guaranteed from every kill, collect them throughout the run. More than one run or additional farming outside the instance may be necessary if the quest remains incomplete.

The current Forever quest record lists three equipment options: Beetle Clasps, Prelacy Cape and Staghide Armguards. The last option is absent from some older quest summaries. Check the actual reward selection screen before choosing your item.

Twilight Falls: Ten Twilight Pendants

Twilight Falls begins with Argent Guard Manados on the Craftsmen's Terrace in Darnassus, around /way 55 24. The quest requires 10 Twilight Pendants from Twilight's Hammer cultists inside Blackfathom Deeps. These enemies are concentrated in the later cultist sections, so the objective is unlikely to be completed by stopping after the first few bosses. Depending on loot drops and the number of eligible enemies killed, collecting all 10 pendants may take more than one run.

The Forever item listing includes Nimbus Boots, Heartwood Girdle and Silvered Gauntlets among its rewards. Older guides commonly mention only the first two. Make sure the quest is active before clearing the Twilight's Hammer areas, and examine the current reward screen when turning it in.

In Search of Thaelrid and Blackfathom Villainy

In Search of Thaelrid is given by Dawnwatcher Shaedlass in Darnassus at approximately /way 55 24. The objective is to locate Argent Guard Thaelrid, who is resting in a concealed alcove reached through an underwater passage near Ghamoo-ra's chamber. Look for the opening into the side cave rather than continuing directly toward the next boss.

Thaelrid offers Blackfathom Villainy, which requires killing Twilight Lord Kelris and collecting the Head of Kelris. Return the head to Dawnwatcher Selgorm in Darnassus. Current Forever reward records list four choices: Gravestone Scepter, Arctic Buckler, Dark Ritual Leggings and Cultist's Armguards.

Published Forever guides disagree about whether In Search of Thaelrid is mandatory. The Wowhead dungeon overview treats it as a prerequisite, while Icy Veins identifies it as an optional breadcrumb that leads to Thaelrid. To avoid uncertainty during a planned run and receive the breadcrumb experience, accept In Search of Thaelrid in Darnassus and complete it before taking Blackfathom Villainy.

All Horde Blackfathom Deeps Quests

Horde quest preparation is concentrated around Je'neu Sancrea at Zoram'gar Outpost in Ashenvale, approximately /way 11 34. Some objectives begin from dropped items rather than a normal NPC conversation. Horde players should pay particular attention to the Damp Note chain and the Fathom Core because both affect additional objectives later in the dungeon.

Baron Aquanis21*Strange Water Globe, dropped by Baron AquanisDeliver the globe to Je'neu Sancrea
Seeking the Kor Gem20Ulric Frostveil, Zoram StrandHorde Paladin: obtain a Corrupted Kor Gem

*The current Forever quick-reference table and Icy Veins list level 21 for Baron Aquanis, while an older detailed dungeon summary lists 23. Treat level 21 as the published current checklist value, but check whether the Strange Water Globe starts its quest for your character before planning a low-level run around that reward.

The Essence of Aku'Mai: Twenty Sapphires

The Essence of Aku'Mai begins with Je'neu Sancrea at Zoram'gar Outpost. An associated introductory quest, Trouble in the Deeps, is available from Tsunaman in Stonetalon Mountains and directs players toward Je'neu. The quest objective is to collect 20 Sapphires of Aku'Mai from crystal formations in the tunnels leading toward BFD.

Many crystals are accessible before entering the instance portal, although eligible formations can also be encountered farther inside. The quest does not require defeating Aku'mai or clearing the dungeon. Completing it before a full instance run can save time, especially when the group wants to move directly through the interior objectives afterward.

The current quest references list experience and monetary rewards without a specific gear item. It is still worth preparing because it shares the travel route with the other Horde assignments and may be relevant to subsequent Je'neu quest progression.

Allegiance to the Old Gods: Damp Note and Lorgus Jett

Allegiance to the Old Gods is the follow-up to an item-started quest triggered by a Damp Note dropped by Blackfathom Tide Priestesses in the caves near the dungeon entrance. The note begins the initial delivery quest, also named Allegiance to the Old Gods, requiring the player to bring it to Je'neu Sancrea at Zoram'gar Outpost. Je'neu then offers the second quest, which requires killing Lorgus Jett inside Blackfathom Deeps.

The essential preparation is completing the Damp Note delivery and accepting the follow-up before the party enters the instance. If you collect the note but proceed directly into BFD without returning to Je'neu, you may reach Lorgus Jett without the correct quest active. Older player reports disagree on whether completing The Essence of Aku'Mai is necessary before the note can drop, so that prerequisite should not be treated as a confirmed Forever beta rule.

The second quest offers Band of the Fist or Chestnut Mantle. These are documented reward options in the Forever quest record. Lorgus Jett patrols the corridor leading toward the Twilight's Hammer section, so complete the exterior note step first and keep the follow-up quest active until his defeat.

Blackfathom Villainy: Horde Version

The Horde version of Blackfathom Villainy can be obtained from Argent Guard Thaelrid inside the dungeon. Players must defeat Twilight Lord Kelris, recover his head and deliver it to Bashana Runetotem on Elder Rise in Thunder Bluff. The starting NPC is therefore shared with the Alliance version, but the final turn-in NPC is different.

The current Horde quest record provides the same four equipment choices as the Alliance version: Gravestone Scepter, Arctic Buckler, Dark Ritual Leggings and Cultist's Armguards. These additional armor options are present in Forever data even though some older dungeon guides list only the scepter and shield.

Accept the quest from Thaelrid when you reach his alcove. Some dungeon references also describe a Horde quest-start interaction involving the Head of Kelris after the boss is defeated, but speaking with Thaelrid beforehand avoids relying on that alternative behavior.

Amongst the Ruins: Fathom Core

Amongst the Ruins starts with Je'neu Sancrea at level 21. The objective is to collect the Fathom Core from the Fathom Stone in the underwater section of Blackfathom Deeps near the Twilight's Hammer area. Interacting with the stone summons Baron Aquanis, connecting this quest directly to the next Horde objective.

Older Classic quest-chain documentation lists The Essence of Aku'Mai as a prerequisite to Amongst the Ruins, while the current Forever overview does not explicitly resolve that requirement. Complete The Essence of Aku'Mai before seeking Amongst the Ruins if the latter is unavailable at Je'neu, but confirm the actual requirement in the beta rather than assuming the old chain has been preserved without changes.

The quest's documented rewards are experience and money, not a specific equipment choice. Its main additional value is triggering Baron Aquanis so the player can obtain the Strange Water Globe.

Baron Aquanis: Strange Water Globe

Baron Aquanis is an item-started quest. When the Fathom Core is removed from the Fathom Stone, Baron Aquanis appears. Defeat the water elemental and loot the Strange Water Globe from his body, then use the item to begin the quest and bring it to Je'neu Sancrea at Zoram'gar Outpost.

The current Forever reward record includes Outlaw Sabre, Witch's Finger and Dreamer's Chestguard. The third option is absent from some older dungeon summaries. Check the current reward window before choosing, especially if you are pursuing the quest for a specific weapon upgrade.

Since Baron Aquanis is connected to the Fathom Core interaction, tell the party before collecting it. Players who need the Strange Water Globe should be ready for the summoned enemy and verify their individual quest-item eligibility rather than allowing the group to move away from the encounter area.

Blackfathom Deeps Class Quests: Warlock and Paladin

Warlocks and Paladins have additional objectives linked to Blackfathom Deeps, but these quests are not all completed through a normal full dungeon clear. Some required items can be obtained from enemies in the dungeon approach area, while others must be obtained in separate dungeons. Collect the correct class quest before farming its associated item.

Warlock: The Orb of Soran'ruk

The Orb of Soran'ruk is available to eligible Warlocks from level 20. The starting NPC is Doan Karhan in The Barrens, near Camp Taurajo at approximately /way 49 57. The quest is not limited to one faction and requires collecting fragments from two separate dungeons.

The required items are 3 Soran'ruk Fragments from Twilight Acolytes in Blackfathom Deeps and 1 Large Soran'ruk Fragment from Shadowfang Keep. Only the three smaller fragments are obtained during the BFD portion. After collecting all four items, return to Doan Karhan to select either the Orb of Soran'ruk or the Staff of Soran'ruk.

Accept the quest before entering BFD, and check the loot from relevant Twilight's Hammer enemies as the group progresses. Completing Blackfathom Deeps alone does not finish the class quest because the Shadowfang Keep fragment remains a separate requirement.

Alliance Paladin: The Test of Righteousness

The Test of Righteousness is part of the Alliance Paladin weapon chain available from level 20. The relevant NPC is Jordan Stilwell outside Ironforge, following the earlier Paladin class progression. His weapon assignment requires several materials from different locations, including a Purified Kor Gem connected to Blackfathom Deeps.

For the BFD step, accept Seeking the Kor Gem from Thundris Windweaver in Auberdine, around /way 37 40. The quest asks for a Corrupted Kor Gem from Naga Witches associated with Blackfathom Deeps. These enemies are confirmed targets within the dungeon; do not assume the gem can reliably be obtained outside the instance. The item is not guaranteed from every eligible kill.

Return the corrupted gem to Thundris to receive the Purified Kor Gem. The broader Test of Righteousness chain also requires Whitestone Oak Lumber from The Deadmines, Jordan's Refined Ore Shipment associated with Loch Modan and Jordan's Smithing Hammer from Shadowfang Keep. Completing the class chain ultimately rewards Verigan's Fist.

Horde Paladin: A Moon-Kissed Blade and Seeking the Kor Gem

WoW Forever adds the Horde Paladin chain A Moon-Kissed Blade, which is available through class progression from level 20. The earlier chain begins at Bandarion Keep in Tirisfal Glades and later leads to Lumina Windsinger in Silverpine Forest. The BFD-related material is the Purified Kor Gem, obtained through a separate quest from Ulric Frostveil.

Accept Seeking the Kor Gem from Ulric Frostveil at Zoram Strand, approximately /way 11.8 34.4. The objective is to recover 1 Corrupted Kor Gem from eligible Naga Witches in the Blackfathom Deeps area. These enemies can be found inside BFD, and players should be prepared to enter the instance rather than rely on an unconfirmed exterior drop. The item is not guaranteed from every eligible kill.

Return the corrupted gem to Ulric to obtain the purified version, then continue A Moon-Kissed Blade through its remaining material requirements. The chain also involves Whitestone Oak Lumber from The Deadmines and an Enchanted Silver Ingot from Shadowfang Keep. Its later quests lead to the Horde-specific Paladin weapon Wolfsbane, rather than the Alliance's Verigan's Fist.

This Horde chain is specific to Forever and should not be omitted from a complete two-faction checklist. Its BFD step is also easy to miss when using older Classic-only dungeon guides, which contain no equivalent Horde Paladin progression.

Best Blackfathom Deeps Quest Route for One Dungeon Run

The most efficient approach is to finish available outdoor preparation first, enter with the required quests already active and complete objectives as they appear along the normal dungeon path. The route differs slightly between factions because Horde has the Fathom Core and Baron Aquanis sequence, while Alliance has the Lorgalis Manuscript and additional collection objectives. Some collection quests may still require extra farming if the first run does not provide enough quest items.

Before the Instance Portal

Both factions should reach the BFD entrance through Zoram Strand in northwestern Ashenvale. Alliance players typically approach from Astranaar, while Horde players can use Zoram'gar Outpost. The entrance is reached through the ruined temple and its submerged passage, so check the group's route and avoid entering with important quests still unaccepted.

Before crossing the instance portal:

  1. Alliance: Accept Knowledge in the Deeps, Researching the Corruption, Twilight Falls and In Search of Thaelrid from their respective NPCs.
  2. Horde: Visit Je'neu Sancrea, prepare The Essence of Aku'Mai and Amongst the Ruins when available, and complete the Damp Note delivery to unlock the Lorgus Jett follow-up.
  3. Paladins: Accept the correct faction version of Seeking the Kor Gem before killing the relevant naga.
  4. Warlocks: Accept The Orb of Soran'ruk from Doan Karhan before entering the Twilight's Hammer sections.
  5. Collect exterior materials: Gather Sapphires of Aku'Mai and eligible Corrupted Brain Stems where the active quests permit it. Do not rely on the Kor Gem dropping outside BFD.
  6. Confirm quest status: Check that any required follow-up quest has been accepted before proceeding into the instance.

Horde players should be especially careful with Allegiance to the Old Gods. The Damp Note starts the delivery stage, but the Lorgus Jett objective comes afterward. Complete the outdoor hand-in to Je'neu and accept the follow-up before entering BFD if you want to kill Lorgus Jett during the same run.

Early BFD Rooms: Ghamoo-ra, Thaelrid and the Manuscript

After entering, clear toward Ghamoo-ra and check the nearby underwater passages. Argent Guard Thaelrid is located in a concealed alcove connected to this early section, while the Lorgalis Manuscript is found in an underwater chest north of the turtle area. These objectives are easy to miss if the group follows the main route without checking side passages.

Alliance players should complete In Search of Thaelrid and accept Blackfathom Villainy from Thaelrid before continuing. Horde players should also speak with him to obtain their faction's version of Blackfathom Villainy. Alliance players with Knowledge in the Deeps should confirm possession of the manuscript before leaving the early chambers.

Middle Rooms: Naga, Satyr and Quest Materials

Continue through the naga, satyr and murloc sections while collecting any remaining Corrupted Brain Stems. Warlocks should watch for Twilight Acolytes carrying Soran'ruk Fragments, and Paladins should focus on eligible Naga Witches until they obtain their Corrupted Kor Gem.

If the required item has not appeared, do not assume an unrelated enemy will provide it. Verify the applicable target type and active quest before extending the run specifically to farm that material.

Later Rooms: Lorgus Jett, Baron Aquanis and Kelris

The later dungeon sections contain several important quest targets. Horde players with Allegiance to the Old Gods must defeat Lorgus Jett, while Twilight Falls requires Alliance players to collect pendants from Twilight's Hammer cultists. Both factions must eventually defeat Twilight Lord Kelris for Blackfathom Villainy.

Horde players completing Amongst the Ruins should collect the Fathom Core from the Fathom Stone, prepare for Baron Aquanis and loot the Strange Water Globe after defeating him. The globe starts a separate quest, so use it and confirm the new objective before leaving the instance.

After Kelris is defeated, confirm that the Head of Kelris has been collected by each eligible player who requires it. The group should also check its remaining collection counters before moving toward Aku'mai or leaving, since missing a single pendant, fragment or brain stem can require another trip. Some quests may remain incomplete even after a thorough first clear because their items are not guaranteed to drop.

Best Blackfathom Deeps Quest Rewards

Several BFD quests provide useful leveling equipment, but their value depends on the character's class and current gear. Forever quest records also contain reward options omitted from older Classic-era overview tables, making it important to examine the actual quest entry rather than relying exclusively on a shortened reward list.

Notable Blackfathom Deeps quest rewards in WoW Forever
QuestNotable Reward OptionsWho Should Consider Them
Blackfathom VillainyGravestone Scepter, Arctic Buckler, Dark Ritual Leggings, Cultist's ArmguardsCasters, shield users and characters needing armor upgrades

The Orb of Soran'rukOrb of Soran'ruk, Staff of Soran'rukWarlocks completing the associated class chain
Paladin Weapon ChainsVerigan's Fist (Alliance), Wolfsbane (Horde)Paladins completing their full class progression

Not every item in this table is awarded immediately after its BFD objective. The Paladin and Warlock rewards require completing additional steps outside Blackfathom Deeps. Also, reward selection and item values remain subject to beta tuning, so the current quest UI takes priority over an older guide when choosing equipment.

How to Prepare for Your First Blackfathom Deeps Run

Blackfathom Deeps combines underwater navigation, side rooms, collection quests and combat encounters. A party that has completed its outdoor preparations can finish more objectives in one run and avoid leaving the instance to retrieve a missing quest from another zone.

The dungeon is traditionally recommended for characters around levels 24–32, although the current beta cap is 30. A balanced group in the mid-to-late 20s is a practical target for a first complete run, with particular attention to the tank's survivability and the healer's ability to sustain longer pulls. Lower-level characters may be able to enter or accept certain quests, but that does not guarantee they can complete the entire dungeon safely.

Before departure, confirm the following:

  • Quest log: Accept every available faction and class quest before entering, including relevant prerequisites.
  • Outdoor items: Collect sapphires, the Damp Note and eligible brain stems before crossing the portal when applicable. Plan to obtain Kor Gems from suitable naga inside BFD if necessary.
  • Group composition: Bring a tank, healer and damage dealers able to control multi-enemy pulls.
  • Consumables: Carry food, drinks, healing supplies and appropriate class reagents.
  • Inventory space: Leave room for quest items, rewards and normal dungeon loot.
  • Water sections: Know the route through submerged passages and avoid separating while searching underwater.
  • Class objectives: Confirm whether a Paladin or Warlock requires a particular enemy or item before the group skips optional sections.

Blizzard's October 1 beta changes also corrected several quest-sharing and item-sharing issues. Players should not assume that one person accepting an item-started quest will automatically provide the associated item or objective to every party member. Check quest eligibility and individual progress before leaving the relevant area.

Blackfathom Deeps Quest FAQ

These answers cover common problems that affect a first BFD run or prevent players from completing the full quest package.

What is the minimum level for all Blackfathom Deeps quests? The current Forever quest checklist includes an objective listed as available from level 10, while the main ordinary faction package extends to level 21. Level 20 is required for the Warlock and Paladin class objectives. Quest eligibility should not be confused with the recommended dungeon level, and a small number of published level entries remain inconsistent.

Can you complete The Essence of Aku'Mai without entering BFD? The required Sapphires of Aku'Mai can be collected from eligible formations in the approach tunnels outside the instance. You do not need to defeat Aku'mai to finish that collection objective.

Do both factions receive Blackfathom Villainy? Yes. Both factions can obtain the quest from Argent Guard Thaelrid inside BFD, but Alliance players turn it in to Dawnwatcher Selgorm in Darnassus, while Horde players return to Bashana Runetotem in Thunder Bluff.

Is a full BFD clear required for the Paladin Kor Gem? Not necessarily. Both faction-specific Seeking the Kor Gem quests require a Corrupted Kor Gem from eligible Naga Witches. These enemies can be found inside BFD, and the item may drop before the final boss, but it is not guaranteed from every kill. The broader Paladin weapon chains require additional materials from other locations and dungeons.

Conclusion

Complete faction prerequisites before entering Blackfathom Deeps, collect eligible materials from the exterior caves and speak with Argent Guard Thaelrid during the early part of the run. Alliance players should secure the manuscript, brain stems, pendants and Kelris objective; Horde players should prepare the Damp Note chain, Fathom Core and Baron Aquanis. Warlocks and Paladins should complete their class-specific BFD steps before finishing the dungeon. Check every remaining objective before leaving, and remember that collection quests may require additional farming or repeat runs.
