In our WoW Forever Class Tier List, Hunter sits in A tier overall and S tier for leveling. We still keep Hunter raid DPS conservative because level-60 performance is not live yet, although Marksmanship is one of the clearest upgrade candidates.

There is no single Hunter spec that is best for every activity yet. The current beta gives us enough information to make practical recommendations without pretending level-60 raid performance is solved.

WoW Forever Hunter Pets: Best Choices and What Changed
The biggest GSC opportunity on this page is Hunter pets, and it also happens to be one of the most changed parts of the class. The current beta is exposing new family abilities and new reasons to choose a pet by activity instead of assuming one universal best pet.
There is still no honest single “best Hunter pet” for every situation. For leveling, fast engagement and survivability matter most. In PvP, roots, slows, disarms and healing reduction can be more valuable than raw damage. In group content, party utility can change the answer again.

What Is the Best Hunter Pet for Leveling?
For the current beta, Boar is the easiest recommendation for a new Hunter because fast engagement fits the basic leveling loop: pet reaches the enemy first, establishes control, and lets you keep shooting from range. Bear is a strong alternative when survivability and multi-target pressure matter more. If Blizzard changes family abilities or pet scaling before launch, this recommendation can move quickly.
How to Feed Your Hunter Pet in WoW Forever
Search demand around Feed Pet is already significant, so this deserves a direct answer. Hunters unlock the pet system through the level-10 class quest chain. Feed Pet increases pet happiness and works better when the food is close to the pet's level.
- Complete the Hunter pet quest chain around level 10 so Tame Beast, Feed Pet and the rest of the basic pet toolkit are available.
- Keep suitable food in your bags. Different pet families accept different food types.
- Use Feed Pet outside combat; the current Forever ability cannot be used while fighting.
- Use level-appropriate food for a stronger happiness gain.
- If your pet is losing happiness, fix that before long questing sessions rather than treating pet maintenance as optional.
Important: feeding improves happiness; it is not the same thing as directly healing the pet. Use Mend Pet for health recovery and Feed Pet for happiness management.
How Hunter Pet Abilities and Beast Training Work
Hunter pet abilities are another growing query cluster. The basic Classic-style logic remains important: some core abilities come from pet trainers, while many family abilities are learned by taming beasts that already know the required ability or rank and then using Beast Training to teach compatible pets.
- Growl and basic training: core pet utility remains part of the pet-training system.
- Family abilities: specific pet families can bring unique active tools such as Web, Rushing Charge, Swipe or Furious Howl.
- Rank progression: higher ranks can require learning the ability from a higher-level tame before teaching it to another compatible pet.
- Dungeon rule: disable automatic Growl when a player tank is meant to hold threat unless the group specifically wants the pet to taunt.
Do Hunter Pets Scale With Your Gear in WoW Forever?
Do not use a made-up universal pet-scaling percentage yet. The beta is still adjusting Hunter and pet interactions, and there is not a complete published coefficient table that safely answers every family, ability and gear state. The correct current answer is that pet scaling is an active beta-tuning area and must be retested at level 30 and again when level 60 becomes testable.
That uncertainty is one reason our WoW Forever tier list keeps Beast Mastery raid projections conservative even though Hunter is already S tier for leveling.
WoW Forever Hunter Talents and Major Changes
The current beta-client Hunter tree contains 50 talents: 14 new talents and 26 changed or moved talents compared with Classic. That is enough change that copying a Classic 1.12 build blindly can produce the wrong path.

Level 20 Hunter Build: Early-Level Milestone
Our safest level-20 recommendation is Beast Mastery. The point of the build is not maximum dummy DPS; it is reducing bad-pull risk while keeping enough personal damage to move quickly from target to target.

Level 30 Beast Mastery Build: Add Hawks and Intimidation
At level 30, Beast Mastery gains the tools that make the Forever version feel genuinely different. Starting from the level-20 build above, our planned route is:

Level 60 Hunter Builds: What We Can Project Now
Do not treat one level-60 build as final before level-60 Forever exists. The safest way to use current information is to separate build directions:

Why Marksmanship matters: our current WoW Forever tier list still keeps Hunter raid DPS conservative, but Marksmanship is explicitly marked as an upgrade candidate because its current public level-60 preset performs far better than our editorial B-tier projection. We will move it only when a second strong signal confirms the sim direction.
Simple Beast Mastery Hunter Leveling Rotation
The goal is to keep the enemy on the pet while preserving Auto Shot uptime and avoiding unnecessary Mana waste.
- Apply Hunter's Mark to durable targets.
- Send the pet first and give it a moment to establish the pull.
- Keep Auto Shot running from safe range.
- Use Serpent Sting when the target will live long enough for the damage-over-time effect to pay off.
- At level 25+, choose between Summon Hawk and Arcane Shot around their shared cooldown.
- Use Multi-Shot only when extra targets are safe to hit.
- Use Intimidation when you need extra pet threat or the stun matters.
- If the target reaches you, create distance instead of turning every fight into a melee trade.
Best Hunter Race in WoW Forever
There is no single verified best Hunter race for every activity yet. Human is a new Alliance Hunter option, and Skyborne can play Hunter on both factions. Dwarf, Night Elf, Orc, Tauren and Troll remain available.

Does Hunter Still Use Arrows and Bullets in WoW Forever?
Yes. Current Forever Hunter data still lists ammunition as a combat reagent for ranged weapons. Bow users need arrows and gun users need bullets, so ammo remains part of normal Hunter preparation rather than a removed modern-WoW system.
Do not overbuy a specific ammo tier before launch. Trainer progression, vendors, crafted ammunition and itemization can still change during beta. For leveling, the practical rule is simple: carry enough ammunition that a long quest loop or dungeon does not end because your bag ran dry.
