GTA 6 Game Informer: 12 New Screenshots & Every New Detail

GTA 6 Game Informer: 12 New Screenshots & Every New Detail

Game Informer has published one of the biggest GTA 6 information drops before launch: a 14-page Issue 382 cover story based on interviews with Rockstar lead designers, accompanied by 12 previously unseen screenshots. The new details cover Leonida's map size and density, hurricanes and localized weather, more than 170 animal species, NPC diversity, activities, police systems, phone apps and how Rockstar researched Florida.

Last updated: October 1, 2026. GTA VI launches November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The original feature is Game Informer's “Welcome to Leonida” cover story. This page summarizes what the new material actually adds without treating speculation or screenshot interpretation as confirmed gameplay.

Game Informer's new material focuses less on another trailer and more on how Rockstar built Leonida as a living version of Florida.

The 12 New GTA 6 Screenshots Explained

Game Informer says all 12 images are new and exclusive to its cover story. At the time of this update, they are not part of Rockstar's main public GTA VI screenshot gallery.

We therefore describe the images rather than republishing Game Informer's exclusive copies. A screenshot can prove that something is visible, but it does not automatically prove how that object or system works during gameplay.

#What the screenshot showsWhat is actually useful about it
1Vice City at night with illuminated towers, searchlights, waterfront lights and a large observation wheelAnother look at the density and nighttime lighting of the urban skyline
2A busy beach scene with loungers, pedestrians, animals and birdsHighlights unusually varied crowds and body types in one scene
3A low-flying agricultural aircraft over a citrus groveA pickup identifies the location/business as Tucker's Citrus Farms, with workers, fruit crates and an orange-shaped water tower
4A seaplane above the Leonida Keys while a dark storm front sits in the distanceTwo visible lightning strikes illustrate the localized weather system: clear conditions can exist near an active storm
5A fishing camp built above the water with an airboat nearbyThree alligators sit extremely close to people without the scene being framed like a scripted attack
6Wetland wildlife with deer, wading birds and other birds in flightVisually reinforces Rockstar's claim that wildlife exists across land, water and air
7A waterfall, wooden bridge and visitors walking through a state-park-style environmentAppears consistent with the wilderness Rockstar associates with Mount Kalaga, although the exact location should not be assumed from the image alone
8A quad rider stopped near water with a rifle carried on the characterShows rural travel, hunting imagery and wildlife sharing the same environment
9A biker bar with neon lighting, a pool table and individually detailed club patchesHighlights interior density, biker culture and NPC clothing detail
10A shop-counter confrontation involving a man carrying a baseball batShows another small-scale crime/interior scene rather than a giant cinematic set piece
11A bandana-covered woman holding a rifle while nearby people watchUseful evidence of how weapons, crowds and public reactions coexist in ordinary spaces
12A masked motorcyclist aiming a pistol with other riders behindShows biker/criminal activity on rural roads, with ordinary environmental details such as animals still present

The point is not that every corner of these screenshots reveals a secret mechanic. Their value is that Rockstar chose to show farms, ordinary interiors, wildlife, rural roads, parks and weather systems rather than only Vice City's skyscrapers.

Leonida Is About Twice the Size of GTA 5's Map

One of the biggest pieces of information from the cover story is Rockstar's first strong on-the-record scale comparison.

Rockstar North co-studio head and head of development Aaron Garbut describes Leonida as roughly twice the size of GTA V's map and Rockstar's largest game world by a significant margin.

However, the more important detail may be density.

Rockstar says the team has pushed:

  • more building interiors;
  • more detailed rooftops;
  • alleys and spaces between major landmarks;
  • greater interaction density;
  • a more cohesive transition between urban and rural regions.

This is not an official square-kilometer measurement. “About twice GTA V” is a Rockstar scale comparison, not a surveyed map area.

For confirmed geography, see our GTA 6 Locations guide.

Six Major Regions Still Define Leonida

The cover story continues to frame Leonida around six major regions:

  • Vice City – dense metropolitan core;
  • Leonida Keys – tropical island chain;
  • Grassrivers – wetlands and mangroves;
  • Port Gellhorn – fading coastal tourist town;
  • Ambrosia – industrial and agricultural interior;
  • Mount Kalaga National Park – northern wilderness.

Rockstar also researched rural northern Florida rather than treating every part of Leonida as another Miami parody.

Mount Kalaga National Park in GTA VI
The new Game Informer material reinforces that GTA VI's world is designed around much more than Vice City.

Hurricanes and Tropical Storms Are Confirmed

GTA VI has a re-engineered weather system designed around Florida's climate.

Game Informer's Rockstar interview confirms:

  • fully dynamic cloudscapes;
  • localized weather;
  • storms visible in the distance;
  • one area remaining sunny while another receives heavy rain;
  • persistent puddles;
  • wet surfaces remaining after a storm;
  • rainbows under suitable lighting;
  • tropical storms;
  • hurricanes.

The wind simulation is also substantially expanded. Reported examples include offshore breezes, rising warm air and buildings affecting the flow of wind, with visible effects on hair, loose debris, vegetation and water.

What Rockstar has not explained yet: how often hurricanes occur, whether they are scripted or fully dynamic, whether roads flood, or how storms affect missions.

Game Informer's new weather reveal is especially relevant to coastal environments such as the Leonida Keys.

More Than 170 Animal Species

Rockstar says GTA VI contains more than 170 animal species across land, air and sea.

The confirmed breakdown includes more than 60 bird types and more than 30 land mammals, plus fish, reptiles and marine life.

Animals explicitly mentioned include:

  • alligators;
  • manatees;
  • flamingos;
  • pelicans;
  • green iguanas;
  • cane toads;
  • feral cats;
  • armadillos;
  • rhesus macaques;
  • multiple shark species;
  • whales;
  • rays;
  • turtles;
  • jellyfish.

Rockstar is also carrying forward ideas from Red Dead Redemption's wildlife technology. Game Informer says animals can display effects such as iridescence, bioluminescence and translucency, while upgraded fur and feather systems react more convincingly to environmental conditions.

Rare, Discoverable and Legendary Animals

Some animals are categorized as Rare, Discoverable or Legendary and can be tracked.

Rockstar has deliberately not revealed which creatures occupy those categories.

That gives GTA VI a wildlife-discovery layer closer to the kind of environmental exploration Rockstar developed in Red Dead Redemption 2, although we should not assume the reward structure is identical.

GTA 6 Has More Detailed and Diverse NPCs

Game Informer's feature also goes deeper into Leonida's population.

NPC variation reportedly includes:

  • different heights;
  • different body types;
  • muscle variation;
  • localized body-fat distribution;
  • freckles and moles;
  • different tanning;
  • more detailed body hair and hairstyles;
  • tattoos designed around different communities;
  • clothing influenced by location and social context.

Rockstar has even dedicated resources specifically to ambient NPC dialogue.

This matters because GTA VI's crowd simulation appears to be designed around recognizably different communities instead of simply increasing the number of random pedestrian models.

New and Confirmed GTA 6 Activities

The cover story also consolidates a substantial list of activities around Leonida.

ActivityStatus from current coverage
Base jumpingConfirmed/reported in official preview material
BilliardsConfirmed
GymsConfirmed
KayakingConfirmed
Mini golfConfirmed
Scuba divingConfirmed
Street racingConfirmed
Off-road racingConfirmed
ZoosReported from the cover story
AirboatingConfirmed
Jet skiingConfirmed

The important takeaway is that many activities are geographically tied to Leonida's different environments rather than existing as isolated minigames.

Phone Apps, Police and Other Systems

The full Game Informer coverage also expands on systems already discussed in Rockstar's August Extended Look.

WAiNK Vehicle Scanner

The WAiNK phone app is described as a vehicle-scanning tool. It can help surface information such as vehicle security, trackers, registration cost and estimated resale value.

That connects directly with the more complicated vehicle-theft system covered in our GTA 6 Cars & Vehicles guide.

RydeMe and Travel

A RydeMe ride-sharing service is reported as one way of moving around the much larger state, while an updated map interface uses a more satellite-like presentation.

Police Heat

Police responses can use information about a suspect's appearance and the crime scene. Changing clothes, changing or abandoning a known vehicle and other escape decisions can therefore matter.

We cover the wider system in our GTA 6 Gameplay guide.

Jason and Lucia's Relationship Gets More Context

The cover story also reinforces that Jason and Lucia's relationship is not simply a fixed background detail.

Current reporting from the full feature describes their relationship as player-influenced: they remain partners, but the player can shape whether their bond is primarily romantic or more focused on their criminal partnership.

Small interactions and activities together can contribute to that relationship, while some choices influence story context.

This does not mean Rockstar has announced a traditional dating-sim meter or confirmed multiple romance partners.

For the narrative side, see our GTA 6 Story guide and GTA 6 Characters guide.

Tucker's Citrus Farms Is an Interesting New Detail

One of the new screenshots contains a pickup carrying the name Tucker's Citrus Farms and a “Since 1968” marking.

The frame also includes agricultural workers, fruit crates, a crop-dusting aircraft and an orange-shaped water tower.

It is a small detail, but an important one: Rockstar is showing agricultural businesses and rural economic activity rather than treating inland Leonida as empty space between major cities.

What the screenshot does not confirm is whether Tucker's Citrus Farms can be entered, purchased, robbed, worked for or used in a mission.

Theme Parks and the Space Coast Are NOT Confirmed

Game Informer reportedly asked Rockstar about central Florida's famous theme-park corridor and the Space Coast.

Rockstar's answer focused on selecting landscapes and landmarks that serve the game rather than recreating every famous Florida location.

So at this stage:

  • Disney-style theme parks are not confirmed;
  • a Kennedy Space Center equivalent is not confirmed;
  • Cape Canaveral-style facilities are not confirmed.

This is exactly the kind of topic where “Rockstar discussed it” should not be transformed into “Rockstar confirmed it.”

What Game Informer Did NOT Confirm

  • A PC release date.
  • PC system requirements.
  • A complete official Leonida map image.
  • An exact map area in square kilometers.
  • How hurricanes affect missions.
  • Flash floods blocking roads.
  • A final GTA Online launch date.
  • A creator marketplace for GTA VI.
  • A cryptocurrency economy.
  • A full money-laundering system.
  • Cal Hampton as the main villain.
  • Every building being enterable.

Why This Game Informer Issue Matters

The significance of Issue 382 is not simply that it contains 12 screenshots.

It is one of the clearest looks yet at Rockstar's design priorities:

  • scale without sacrificing density;
  • weather as a localized physical system;
  • wildlife as part of the world rather than decoration;
  • more believable population diversity;
  • activities tied to specific environments;
  • rural and industrial Leonida receiving the same attention as Vice City.

The 12 images make that philosophy visible, while the Rockstar interviews explain the systems behind it.
