Need Help Progressing in WoW?

Paladin is one of the most flexible classes entering WoW Midnight Season 2 because a single character can cover healing, tanking and melee DPS while bringing an unusually deep set of immunities, blessings, dispels and group-saving cooldowns. Holy is a reactive healer with strong spot healing and premium utility, Protection is a fast Holy Power tank with exceptional control and immunities, and Retribution remains an accessible melee DPS with strong one-minute burst and valuable support.

This guide is updated for Patch 12.1: The Curse of Ula’tek and Midnight Season 2. It covers the recommended Holy, Protection and Retribution Paladin builds for Raid, Mythic+, Delves and PvP together with interactive talent trees, import strings, key talents in normal HTML, stat priorities, Season 2 tier bonuses, high-impact gear, consumables, rotations, utility, defensive planning, macros and addons.

Season timing: Midnight Season 2 begins on August 18, 2026 in North America and August 19 in Europe. Early rankings should therefore be treated as launch projections until representative Raid and Mythic+ logs exist.

Paladin Season 2 Meta Position

Paladin is unusually resilient to tuning because all three roles are represented. If Retribution falls behind on raw damage, the character still provides access to a competitive tank or healer profile without rerolling classes. For players who value one-character progression, crafted gear efficiency and flexibility between group roles, that is a major Season 2 advantage.

SpecRoleSeason 2 IdentityMain Reason to Play It
HolyHealerReactive spot healerStrong targeted healing, excellent externals and powerful raid utility
ProtectionTankFast Holy Power tankFrequent mitigation, interrupts, immunities and strong pull-to-pull control
RetributionMelee DPSOne-minute burstAccessible rotation, strong short burst and extensive support tools

Do not choose a specialization only from a static tier placement. Paladin performance is highly encounter-dependent because blessings, immunities, disease/poison removal, combat resurrection and crowd control can produce more practical value than a small theoretical throughput difference.

What Changed for Paladin in Patch 12.1?

Holy Paladin 12.1 Changes

  • Holy received broad throughput buffs to healing and damage entering Season 2.
  • Holy Shock, Word of Glory and Eternal Flame are more valuable than in early Midnight tuning.
  • The Season 2 set makes Infusion of Light a much more important rotational resource.
  • Judgment becomes more important once the four-piece is equipped because it can generate Infusion of Light.
  • Holy Light can guarantee Infusion of Light with the four-piece, but its increased Mana cost prevents mindless spam.
  • Herald of the Sun is the clear general Raid recommendation and remains the safest Mythic+ default.

Protection Paladin 12.1 Changes

  • The Protection tree was adjusted so core defensive talents are easier to take without sacrificing as much damage.
  • Glory of the Vanguard is the new Apex package and strengthens the Judgment → Avenger’s Shield loop.
  • The Season 2 set makes Consecration much more important again because standing enemies inside it increases your critical-strike chance against them.
  • The four-piece adds bonus Holy damage after Judgment and Blessed Hammer / Hammer of the Righteous hits, with extra value from critical strikes.
  • Templar aligns especially well with Protection’s one-minute Divine Toll / Avenging Wrath cadence.
  • Lightsmith remains viable and easier to execute, particularly for players learning routes and pull patterns.

Retribution Paladin 12.1 Changes

  • Retribution receives broad damage redistribution rather than a complete mechanical rebuild.
  • Art of War and Righteous Cause can each accumulate an additional charge through the new Apex package.
  • Light Within reinforces Blade of Justice and Holy Power spender damage during Avenging Wrath.
  • Hammer of Light now costs three Holy Power, making Templar windows substantially smoother than older versions.
  • The Season 2 set is built around Divine Purpose and Divine Arbiter.
  • Templar remains the best default for single target and short burst; Herald of the Sun is more attractive when sustained cleave is the priority.

See our Midnight Season 2 Class Changes Guide for the wider class-by-class tuning picture.

Paladin Season 2 Tier Set — Radiance of the Consecrated Flame

The Midnight Season 2 Paladin set is Radiance of the Consecrated Flame. Holy, Protection and Retribution each receive completely different gameplay effects.

Spec2-Set4-SetBuild Impact
HolyInfusion of Light increases Flash of Light healing and Greater Judgment absorb by an additional 100%.Judgment has a 20% chance to grant Infusion of Light. Holy Light guarantees Infusion of Light but costs 50% more Mana.Raises the value of Judgment and makes Infusion management central to Season 2 healing.
ProtectionConsecration is 30% larger and enemies inside it have a 5% increased chance to be critically hit by your abilities.Judgment and Blessed Hammer / Hammer of the Righteous cause the target to take additional Holy damage; critical hits amplify that bonus.Rewards Consecration uptime and adds real Crit synergy to the tank rotation.
RetributionDivine Purpose has an additional 10% chance to activate; consuming it grants 10% increased Holy damage for 12 sec.Consuming Divine Purpose grants Divine Arbiter, empowering another Holy Power spender with large primary-target and splash Holy damage.Turns Divine Purpose procs into a rotational mini-window instead of passive free-spender value.

Completing four pieces is a major gearing objective for all three specs. Holy changes priority noticeably with four pieces, Protection gains more value from Consecration uptime and Crit, and Retribution should actively recognize Divine Purpose windows rather than treating them as random free casts.

Best Holy Paladin Builds

Holy Paladin enters Season 2 as a powerful reactive healer with excellent spot healing and one of the strongest utility packages available to any healer. The core loop is straightforward: generate Holy Power with Holy Shock, Judgment and Flash of Light, then spend it on Eternal Flame, Word of Glory or Light of Dawn according to the damage pattern.

Herald of the Sun is the recommended default for Raid and Mythic+. Lightsmith can produce more damage in some dungeon setups, but Herald provides the more reliable healing profile and is the better general recommendation for players who want one build philosophy across content.

Best Holy Paladin Raid Build — Herald of the Sun

Raid Import String:

CEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALAwMAAw2MzMjZMzYxYmZYZwMLmpJGGzMDjZLDADAbgNWmxMLz2Mzs1AAAAsAGYzwYGDmBAwMDzYMaA

Best for: progression raiding, reactive spot healing and predictable raid-wide damage
Beacon choice: Beacon of Virtue for the highest throughput ceiling; Beacon of Faith is easier and less Mana-intensive
Hero Talents: Herald of the Sun

Key Holy Raid Talents

  • Holy Shock — the core rotational heal and one of your main Holy Power generators.
  • Beacon of Virtue — powerful burst-healing tool when several players are about to take damage.
  • Eternal Flame — Herald of the Sun replacement for Word of Glory with strong immediate healing and a follow-up HoT.
  • Divine Toll — excellent mini-cooldown that rapidly creates Holy Power and stabilizes multiple targets.
  • Aura Mastery — one of the strongest reasons to bring Holy Paladin to progression raiding.
  • Avenging Wrath — major healing window and the anchor for Herald of the Sun effects.

Beacon of the Savior Apex Talent Explained

Beacon of the Savior is Holy’s Apex package. It automatically attaches to a vulnerable ally and transfers as conditions change, functioning as an additional passive Beacon that rewards strong direct-healing decisions without demanding another permanent keybind.

The practical rule is simple: do not distort your entire healing plan trying to “game” the Apex target. Continue healing whoever is actually in danger. Later Apex ranks reduce the penalty for directly healing the marked target and can make those direct heals beneficial.

Holy Raid Healing Priority

  1. Do not overcap Holy Power.
  2. Use Divine Toll during meaningful incoming damage rather than for empty meter padding.
  3. Consume valuable Infusion of Light procs with Flash of Light when the heal will land efficiently.
  4. Keep Holy Shock on a productive cadence.
  5. Spend Holy Power on Eternal Flame / Word of Glory for dangerous individual targets or Light of Dawn for grouped raid damage.
  6. Use Beacon of Virtue before the damage event, not after everyone is already stabilized.
  7. Plan Aura Mastery, Avenging Wrath and Hand of Divinity around the boss timeline.

Holy is at its best when cooldowns are assigned in advance. Randomly reacting with every major button to the first dangerous health drop usually creates a later gap when the raid actually needs Aura Mastery or wings.

Best Holy Paladin Mythic+ Build — Herald of the Sun

Mythic+ Import String:

CEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALAwMAADWGzMzMjZmZBGDLjNzsY0EDjZmhxslBgBgNwGLzMzsMbzMzWDAAAwCLMzwmHAmxgZAAMzwMGjGA

Holy Mythic+ Rules

  • Use Beacon of Faith as the safer default when Mana stability matters; switch to Beacon of Virtue when you can exploit planned burst windows.
  • Damage matters in keys, but never sacrifice a coming healing check just to force Judgment or Shield of the Righteous damage.
  • Use Blessing of Protection, Blessing of Freedom and Blessing of Sacrifice proactively.
  • Cleanse Toxins can completely solve dangerous poison and disease mechanics that other healers cannot remove.
  • Blinding Light remains an important stop because Holy no longer brings the same interrupt package as the melee Paladin specs.
  • Use Divine Shield aggressively when it allows you to ignore a mechanic and continue healing the group.

Holy Paladin Stat Priority

RaidIntellect → Mastery → Haste ≈ Critical Strike → Versatility
Mythic+Intellect → Haste / Critical Strike / Versatility → Mastery depending on damage vs healing needs
RuleItem level and Intellect normally beat small secondary-stat differences.

Holy secondary stats are close enough that blindly sacrificing item level for a theoretical ranking is usually incorrect. Mastery is excellent for pure healing, but its value falls in Mythic+ because it contributes no damage and positioning is less consistent.

Holy Season 2 Gear Priorities

Tier4-piece Radiance of the Consecrated Flame
Raid WeaponBaleful Hexblade
Raid Off-HandBubblefin Splash Guard
Best Healing Trinket TargetSoulcoiler Ritual Vessel
Passive TrinketGebbo’s Bottomless Bag
Early CraftHigh-item-level crafted weapon with a throughput embellishment if raid weapon access is limited

Soulcoiler Ritual Vessel is the main early healing trinket to watch, while Gebbo’s Bottomless Bag is a strong passive stat option. As always, healing trinket balance can change quickly during the first live tuning passes.

Holy Gems, Enchants and Consumables

Primary GemUse the best current Intellect/secondary gem combination for your socket setup
ChestMark of the Worldsoul
RingsChoose Mastery, Haste or Crit according to current gear balance
FlaskUse the current Intellect/healing flask appropriate to your content
Combat PotionUse an Intellect throughput potion during planned healing or damage windows
Health PotionConcentrated Silvermoon Health Potion
WeaponThroughput enchant; sim or healer-tool close alternatives

Holy Paladin PvP Build

Holy Paladin PvP should not copy the Raid talent tree and call it finished. Arena emphasizes instant healing, immunity timing, Blessing of Protection, Blessing of Sacrifice, Freedom, crowd-control prevention and positioning much more heavily than PvE throughput talents.

Important Holy PvP Tools

  • Divine Shield — immunity that can preserve a healing sequence through enemy pressure.
  • Blessing of Protection — powerful physical immunity and CC removal tool.
  • Blessing of Sacrifice — external damage reduction and a classic way to break incoming crowd control through transferred damage.
  • Blessing of Freedom — crucial against roots and slows.
  • Hammer of Justice — offensive and defensive stun setup.
  • Aura Mastery — valuable when coordinated around enemy offensive cooldowns.

Best Protection Paladin Builds

Protection Paladin is a high-input tank built around Holy Power, Shield of the Righteous uptime, frequent Avenger’s Shield casts and exceptional utility. It is strongest when the player treats mitigation and control as part of the rotation instead of waiting for health to collapse before reacting.

Templar is the recommended performance Hero tree in Season 2 because its one-minute cycle aligns naturally with Divine Toll and Avenging Wrath. Lightsmith is still legitimate and can be preferable for players who value a simpler rotation and more group-oriented utility.

Best Protection Paladin Raid Build — Templar

Raid Import String:

CIEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAsZmtZbmZMzMzMWGjxw2MGAAAAAAAAINGmxMzYMbtBgBMwMYbAAgZm2mZWmBAYjNMAGjZYMAALzAmZGwYB

Key Protection Raid Talents

  • Shield of the Righteous — primary Holy Power spender and core active mitigation.
  • Avenger’s Shield — damage, interrupts and a central Glory of the Vanguard interaction.
  • Divine Toll — one-minute burst, control and Holy Power engine.
  • Avenging Wrath — aligns naturally with the Templar damage cycle.
  • Sentinel — major defensive layer when selected.
  • Blessing of Spellwarding — encounter-specific immunity utility against magic mechanics.

Glory of the Vanguard Apex Talent Explained

Glory of the Vanguard revolves around Judgment empowering later Avenger’s Shield casts. The Apex package adds damage, Holy Power generation and stronger Avenger’s Shield value during Avenging Wrath.

The result is a tank rotation where offensive efficiency and survivability overlap: better Holy Power generation means more Shield of the Righteous uptime, and stronger Avenger’s Shield windows also provide more control over caster-heavy encounters.

Protection Raid Priority

  1. Maintain Shield of the Righteous active mitigation.
  2. Keep Consecration under relevant enemies, especially with the Season 2 two-piece.
  3. Use Hammer of Light during Templar windows without allowing the proc to expire.
  4. Use Judgment and Hammer of Wrath efficiently to generate Holy Power.
  5. Use Avenger’s Shield for Vanguard value, interrupts and add control.
  6. Align Divine Toll with dangerous add waves or meaningful boss damage where possible.
  7. Use Word of Glory when free or when survival requires it; do not die holding Holy Power for theoretical damage.

Best Protection Paladin Mythic+ Build — Templar

Mythic+ Import String:

CIEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAsZmlZbMjZmZmZZbMGjZZGDAAAAAAAA00MDzYmhxs1GAGAYGsNAAwMTbzMLzAAsxCGAjxMMGAglZAzMDYsA

Protection Mythic+ Rules

  • Consecration placement matters again because the two-piece increases your crit chance against enemies standing inside it.
  • Use Avenger’s Shield as part of the group interrupt plan, not simply as a damage button.
  • Divine Toll is one of the best pull-control buttons in the tank toolkit; avoid wasting it on dying packs.
  • Use Blessing of Spellwarding, Blessing of Protection and Freedom to remove mechanics from your group’s problem list.
  • Keep enough Holy Power control between pulls that you do not enter a dangerous pack without mitigation.
  • Lightsmith is a reasonable learning option if tracking Hammer of Light and Templar windows distracts from route execution.

Protection Paladin Stat Priority

GeneralItem Level → Haste → Critical Strike → Versatility → Mastery
Survival NoteStrength, Stamina and Armor gains from item level usually outweigh minor secondary optimization.
Damage NoteSim close offensive choices; tank survivability value is not captured by a pure DPS sim.

Haste remains excellent because it accelerates the generator cycle and improves rotational smoothness. Crit gains additional Season 2 value from the set and also contributes defensive value through parry interactions.

Protection Season 2 Gear Priorities

Defensive WeaponJaw of the Shackled Goddess
Damage WeaponAman’muso, Warlord’s Vengeance
Damage TrinketZul’jin’s Guillotine Technique when paired with Aman’muso
Defensive / General TrinketKeeper’s Seething Core
ShieldVenom-Slashed Scuteward
Tier4-piece Radiance of the Consecrated Flame

Protection has a meaningful weapon choice: Jaw of the Shackled Goddess is attractive for defensive Haste value, while Aman’muso becomes the stronger damage setup when paired with Zul’jin’s Guillotine Technique.

Protection Gems, Enchants and Consumables

Epic GemIndecipherable Eversong Diamond
Secondary GemsFlawless Deadly Peridot or another Crit/Haste-oriented gem according to current gear
WeaponAcuity of the Ren’dorei
ChestMark of the Worldsoul
RingsSilvermoon’s Alacrity
FlaskFlask of the Blood Knights
Combat PotionPotion of Recklessness
Weapon OilThalassian Phoenix Oil for Templar; Lightsmith can use its Hero-specific weapon rite

Protection Paladin PvP Build

Protection is not the default competitive Arena Paladin spec, but it can have specialized value in battleground environments where objective control, durability, immunities and repeated interrupts matter more than standard healer/DPS composition rules.

Best Retribution Paladin Builds

Retribution is the simplest Paladin specialization to recommend for players who want damage without giving up class-defining support. It combines a relatively accessible priority system with strong one-minute burst, ranged melee abilities, immunities, Blessing utility and a combat resurrection.

Templar is the default Raid and Mythic+ recommendation because it is strongest in single target and short burst windows. Herald of the Sun can gain ground in encounters dominated by sustained cleave or longer damage windows.

Best Retribution Paladin Raid Build — Templar

Raid Import String:

CYEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANbbzMzywMDAAAAAAzUmtZYmx2Y2GmZbGjxMDzYhtBAAkZm2mZ2mBAsBYAwYGGYGjZDbzghxMGMA

Key Retribution Raid Talents

  • Blade of Justice — core generator and a major Light Within interaction.
  • Wake of Ashes — central one-minute burst setup.
  • Hammer of Light — Templar Holy Power spender available after Wake of Ashes and through Hero effects.
  • Execution Sentence — strong single-target burst option.
  • Divine Toll — burst generator with strong Templar synergy.
  • Final Verdict — primary single-target Holy Power spender.

Light Within Apex Talent Explained

Light Within reinforces the normal Retribution loop instead of creating a separate subsystem. It lets Art of War and Righteous Cause hold additional charges, increases Blade of Justice value, and later ranks increase spender damage during Avenging Wrath.

The practical skill test is avoiding wasted procs. If Art of War reaches two charges, use Blade of Justice before another proc is lost unless a very short delay is required for the coming burst sequence.

Retribution Raid Opener and Priority

  1. Build enough Holy Power to enter the first burst sequence cleanly.
  2. Use Avenging Wrath and on-use effects in the planned damage window.
  3. Apply Execution Sentence where the target will remain available.
  4. Cast Wake of Ashes and convert into Hammer of Light.
  5. Use Divine Toll without overcapping Holy Power.
  6. Spend on Final Verdict while preserving generator efficiency.
  7. Consume Art of War / Righteous Cause effects before reaching inefficient charge states.

Retribution loses a surprising amount of damage from wasted Holy Power rather than from complex button order. Track auto-attack Holy Power when using Crusading Strikes and avoid entering Wake of Ashes or Divine Toll already capped.

Best Retribution Paladin Mythic+ Build — Templar

Mythic+ Import String:

CYEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAwoZbbmZWGzMzAAAAAAYmyYGmZsNmthZ2mxYMGmxGbAAAZmptZmtZAAbAGAMmhBmxMzGWmBDjZMYA

Retribution Mythic+ Damage Rules

  • Use Divine Storm when the target count makes AoE spending worthwhile, but maintain priority-target pressure.
  • Templar’s burst is short enough to use frequently; do not hold every cooldown only for bosses.
  • Use Wake of Ashes and Hammer of Light where the pack will survive long enough to receive the full burst.
  • Take utility points according to the dungeon: Cleanse Toxins, Freedom, Blinding Light and defensive talents can be worth more than a tiny sim gain.
  • Do not ignore Rebuke just because the tank has Avenger’s Shield; high keys require a coordinated interrupt plan.
  • Herald of the Sun becomes more attractive if a dungeon or route rewards sustained cleave more than instant burst.

Retribution Paladin Stat Priority

PvEStrength → Mastery → Haste → Critical Strike → Versatility
AoE NoteCritical Strike can gain value with Templar interactions; always sim close gear.
PvPStrength → Versatility / Mastery / Haste according to current PvP build and gear system

Retribution Season 2 Gear Priorities

Raid TrinketVoracious Heart of Ula’tek
Paired Damage TrinketZul’jin’s Guillotine Technique
High-Impact NeckAqirbane Reliquary
Tier4-piece Radiance of the Consecrated Flame
CraftUse crafted slots to fill weak non-tier pieces after the weapon situation is solved

Retribution Gems, Enchants and Consumables

ChestMark of the Worldsoul
RingsPrioritize Mastery/Haste balance based on your sim
WeaponUse the strongest current two-handed weapon enchant for your character
FlaskFlask of the Blood Knights
Combat PotionPotion of Recklessness or current sim-leading Strength potion
Health PotionConcentrated Silvermoon Health Potion

Retribution Paladin PvP Build

Retribution PvP is built around short offensive windows, team utility and surviving enemy cooldowns long enough to create a second go. Do not reuse the PvE Templar tree blindly: defensive talents, Freedom interactions, crowd-control options and PvP talents change by bracket and composition.

Retribution PvP Priorities

  • Coordinate Hammer of Justice with partner crowd control rather than using it randomly.
  • Use Blessing of Freedom before a root or slow prevents your burst, not after the damage window has ended.
  • Save Divine Shield for genuinely dangerous states or guaranteed offensive value.
  • Use Blessing of Protection and Blessing of Sacrifice on teammates proactively.
  • Do not overcommit Avenging Wrath into a target with every defensive cooldown available.

Best Paladin Spec for Delves and Solo Play

SpecSolo ProfileBest For
RetributionFastest general clearQuesting, routine Delves and fast elite kills
ProtectionSafestHigh-tier Delves, large pulls and dangerous elites
HolySlow but extremely durablePlayers practicing the healer spec or group-focused Delves

Retribution is the default solo recommendation because it combines strong burst with enough self-healing and defensive utility to recover from mistakes. Protection is the better choice when survival is the actual bottleneck rather than kill speed.

See our Midnight Season 2 Delves Tier List and WoW Delves services for the wider solo meta and progression options.

Paladin Utility Every Spec Should Use

AbilityWhy It Matters
Divine ShieldFull immunity that can invalidate mechanics and preserve uptime
Lay on HandsMassive emergency heal
Blessing of ProtectionPhysical immunity and debuff utility
Blessing of SacrificePowerful external damage reduction
Blessing of FreedomRemoves or prevents movement impairing effects
Cleanse ToxinsRemoves poison and disease effects
Hammer of JusticeReliable stun for dangerous enemies or PvP setups
Blinding LightAoE stop and emergency control
IntercessionCombat resurrection
Devotion AuraPassive group damage reduction profile; Holy can amplify aura value with Aura Mastery

Paladin Defensive Priority

Paladin survivability is strongest when immunities and blessings are treated as encounter tools rather than panic buttons. The class can often delete a mechanic entirely, but wasting Divine Shield or Blessing of Protection on minor damage removes that advantage from the next dangerous event.

  • Use Divine Protection and spec-specific defensives before predictable hits.
  • Use Divine Shield for immunities, debuff clears or guaranteed survival where the value is high.
  • Use Blessing of Protection on physical mechanics and debuffs that it actually solves.
  • Use Blessing of Sacrifice before a teammate takes the dangerous hit.
  • Use Lay on Hands early enough that the target is still alive when the heal lands.
  • Protection should never rely on emergency buttons instead of maintaining Shield of the Righteous.

Best Addons and UI Tools for Paladin

  • Blizzard Cooldown Manager: track Holy Power generators, Avenging Wrath, Divine Toll, Holy Shock charges and major defensive cooldowns.
  • Details!: damage, healing, deaths, interrupts and external-cooldown analysis.
  • Plater: dangerous casts, interrupt priorities and nameplate control in Mythic+.
  • BigWigs / DBM: encounter timers and ability warnings.
  • OmniCD: party defensive and interrupt planning where supported.
  • Healer frames: Holy should use frames that clearly expose dispellable effects, Beacons and external defensives.

Midnight restricts part of the old combat-addon ecosystem, so the best Paladin UI should also make full use of Blizzard’s built-in Cooldown Manager, boss warnings and improved default combat information rather than assuming every old WeakAura remains available.

Paladin Season 2 Gearing Checklist

  1. Prioritize item level and the correct primary-stat weapon for your role.
  2. Complete the Season 2 four-piece set.
  3. Holy: target strong healing trinkets and avoid sacrificing too much Intellect for secondary-stat perfection.
  4. Protection: decide whether the immediate goal is maximum damage or maximum defensive weapon value.
  5. Retribution: prioritize weapon item level, then simulate close trinket and secondary-stat choices.
  6. Use Catalyst charges on high-value eligible slots instead of waiting indefinitely for perfect natural tier drops.
  7. Craft around tier slots and special-effect raid items, not through them.
  8. Use the Great Vault to fill the slots that are hardest to target directly.

For the weekly order of Raid, Mythic+, Delves, Vault and Catalyst priorities, follow our Midnight Season 2 Weekly Checklist.

Paladin Builds FAQ

What is the best Paladin spec in Midnight Season 2?

There is no single answer because Paladin covers all three group roles. Holy is the healer, Protection is the tank and Retribution is the DPS. For solo play, Retribution is generally fastest while Protection is safest.

What is the best Holy Paladin Hero Talent?

Herald of the Sun is the best general recommendation for Raid and Mythic+. Lightsmith can be competitive in Mythic+ and may provide more damage, but its healing profile is less reliable.

What is the best Protection Paladin Hero Talent?

Templar is the recommended performance option for Season 2 because it aligns extremely well with the one-minute Divine Toll and Avenging Wrath cycle. Lightsmith is simpler and remains viable.

What is the best Retribution Paladin Hero Talent?

Templar is the default Raid and Mythic+ recommendation for single target and short burst. Herald of the Sun is more attractive for sustained cleave and longer damage windows.

Does Holy Paladin need the Season 2 four-piece?

Yes. The four-piece materially changes Infusion of Light generation by adding Judgment procs and guaranteed generation from Holy Light, so it is a major gearing objective.

Why is Consecration more important for Protection in Season 2?

The two-piece makes Consecration 30% larger and increases your chance to critically strike enemies standing inside it. Losing Consecration uptime therefore costs both its normal value and the set bonus.

How does Retribution's Season 2 set change the rotation?

Divine Purpose procs become more important because consuming them grants a Holy-damage buff and activates Divine Arbiter through the four-piece. Treat those procs as mini damage windows rather than random free spenders.

Should I copy one Paladin build for every boss and dungeon?

No. The import strings above are strong defaults. Paladin has unusually valuable utility flex points, so Cleanse Toxins, Blessing talents, crowd control and defensive options should be adjusted to the actual encounter or dungeon.
