WoW Forever PvP uses two separate progression resources: Rank Points to advance through 14 seasonal ranks and Honor to purchase PvP equipment. You can also earn Battleground-specific Marks of Honor, unlock elite armor, pursue faction reputation and earn PvP Legacy Points. Unlike the original competitive Classic system, your seasonal Rank Points do not decay, although weekly rank limits prevent an immediate rush to Rank 14.
Updated October 3, 2026. The current WoW Forever beta level cap is 30. Blizzard's October 1 build also increased the Honor cap from 15,000 to 25,000 and repriced most PvP gear and upgrade tokens by approximately 50%. Rank thresholds, Battleground brackets and other beta values can still change before release.
How PvP Works in WoW Forever
Forever combines organized Battlegrounds, optional or automatic open-world faction combat depending on your ruleset, and a seasonal PvP rank progression track. The main objectives are to earn Rank Points, collect Honor and map-specific Marks, buy equipment, and unlock rewards at specific ranks.
There is no rated Arena or Rated Battleground ladder in the currently announced Forever design. Blizzard's developer Q&A describes seasonal rank progression instead. Players can compete in objective-based Battlegrounds regardless of whether they choose the Normal or PvP ruleset, subject to the applicable queue restrictions.
| System | Purpose | Current beta information |
|---|---|---|
| Rank Points | Increase your seasonal PvP rank | 24,750 cumulative points for Rank 14 |
| Honor | Buy PvP equipment and other vendor rewards | Maximum of 25,000 Honor held at once |
| Battleground Marks | Purchase map-specific PvP equipment | Three per win or one per loss |
| Reputation | Unlock faction-specific rewards | Four Battleground reputations also award PvP Legacy Points at Exalted |
| Legacy Points | Permanent account-wide progression | 12 PvP Legacy Points total: 5 ranks, 4 reputations and 3 Field of Honor milestones |
| PvP seasons | Repeatable rank-and-reward progression | Seasonal rank reset |
Honor vs. Rank Points: What Actually Increases Your Rank?
Honor does not raise your PvP rank. Rank Points fill your seasonal progression bar; Honor is a spendable currency for PvP vendors. Spending Honor on gear does not reduce your Rank Points, and the two currencies cannot be exchanged.
Current beta information identifies Battlegrounds and PvP-related Gadgetzan tasks as Rank Point sources. Exact rewards per activity are not final, so a reliable Rank Points-per-hour calculation is not yet available.
The current Honor cap is 25,000 held at one time. Blizzard raised it from 15,000 on October 1 after increasing most Honor prices for PvP gear and upgrade tokens by approximately 50%. This does not limit your total seasonal earnings: spend Honor as you progress instead of remaining capped. Selected purchases also require Marks earned from specific Battlegrounds.
All 14 PvP Ranks, Requirements and Unlocks
Each rank requires more Rank Points than the previous one. The individual cost is added to the total already earned, so reaching Grand Marshal or High Warlord requires 24,750 cumulative Rank Points. Every reward listed below is an unlock; vendor equipment must still be purchased.
| Rank | Alliance / Horde | Points for rank | Total points | Reward unlock |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Private / Scout | 750 | 750 | Faction tabard |
| 2 | Corporal / Grunt | 900 | 1,650 | PvP insignia |
| 3 | Sergeant / Sergeant | 1,050 | 2,700 | Faction cloak; Legacy Point |
| 4 | Master Sergeant / Senior Sergeant | 1,200 | 3,900 | Faction necklace |
| 5 | Sergeant Major / First Sergeant | 1,350 | 5,250 | Combat potions |
| 6 | Knight / Stone Guard | 1,500 | 6,750 | Elite faction tabard |

| 8 | Knight-Captain / Legionnaire | 1,800 | 10,200 | Elite wrist and belt upgrades |
| 9 | Knight-Champion / Centurion | 1,950 | 12,150 | Elite boots upgrade |

View All PvP ServicesHow Long Does Rank 14 Take?
Rank 14 cannot be reached before season week 10 under the current beta schedule. Weekly restrictions limit your maximum available rank, but reaching that maximum still requires earning sufficient Rank Points. The restriction is a progression gate rather than an automatic rank award.
| Season week | Maximum rank | Notable unlock |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 3 | Initial insignia and cloak progression |
| 2 | 5 | Combat potions |
| 3 | 6 | Elite faction tabard |
| 4 | 7 | Battle standard |
| 5 | 8 | First elite armor upgrades |
| 6 | 9 | Elite boots |
| 7 | 11 | Black War Mounts |
| 8 | 12 | Elite legs and shoulders |
| 9 | 13 | Remaining elite armor upgrades |
| 10+ | 14 | Epic PvP weapons |
The beta system has no weekly Rank Point decay, but seasonal rank progression resets when a new PvP season begins. Your permanent Legacy progress remains separate. Exact season duration and the final time required to earn 24,750 Rank Points have not been confirmed.
WoW Forever PvP Gear: Rare Armor and Elite Upgrades
Rare PvP armor is available without a previous PvP rank, although the current beta items require level 55 to equip. Reaching higher ranks unlocks Emboldened Seals that upgrade eligible rare armor to elite versions. Those upgrade seals are level-60 progression. The October 1 build changed most Honor prices, so September price tables should no longer be treated as current vendor costs.
Complete PvP Gear Price List
| Slot | Rare item cost | Elite upgrade | Upgrade rank |
|---|---|---|---|
| Helm | Repriced October 1 + 15 AV Marks | Repriced October 1 | 13 |

| PvP insignia | Repriced October 1 | Repriced October 1 | Rank 2 unlock |
| Premier Master Sergeant's Insignia | Repriced October 1 + 10 Darkspear Marks | — | Check final vendor requirements |
AB means Arathi Basin, WSG means Warsong Gulch and AV means Alterac Valley. Blizzard confirmed that most Honor costs for PvP gear and upgrade tokens increased by approximately 50% on October 1, but the official notes do not provide a complete replacement per-item price table. Check the active beta vendor before publishing or calculating an exact current Honor total.
ExpCarry's Original PvP Gear Budget
The calculation below is preserved as the original September beta baseline. It is not the current October Honor budget because Blizzard repriced most PvP gear and upgrade tokens on October 1. The Mark totals remain useful for understanding how the original calculation was built, but the Honor subtotal must be recalculated from current vendor prices.

| September purchase goal | September Honor required | Marks required |
|---|---|---|
| Eight rare armor pieces | 39,500 | 35 AB + 35 WSG + 15 AV + 10 Darkspear |
| Seven priced elite upgrades | 9,500 | No additional Marks listed |
| September known armor subtotal | 49,000 | 95 Marks |
| Elite helm seal | Unknown | Unknown |
The theoretical minimum for the original 95-Mark requirement is 33 Battleground wins: 12 wins in Arathi Basin, 12 in Warsong Gulch, five in Alterac Valley and four in Darkspear Islands, assuming you start with no Marks and receive three per win. Losses, Honor farming, queue times and other possible sources are not included.
Do not convert the old 49,000-Honor subtotal directly into the new 25,000-Honor wallet cap. The cap increased at the same time that most item prices changed, so the full current budget must first be rebuilt from the October vendor values.
Interactive PvP Gear Calculator
The calculator must use the October 1 vendor prices before its Honor totals can be treated as current. Rank unlocks and Battleground Mark requirements remain useful planning inputs, but any calculator still using the September values will understate the new Honor cost.
Rank 14 PvP Weapons and Their PricesRank 14 unlocks the epic weapon arsenal. These items are not included in the armor subtotal above. The weapon names and Mark requirements remain useful, but the September Honor prices are no longer current after the October 1 PvP economy update.
| Rank 14 weapons | Honor | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Premier Grand Marshal's Demolisher Premier Grand Marshal's Glaive Premier Grand Marshal's Battle Hammer Premier Grand Marshal's Stave Premier Grand Marshal's Sunderer Premier Grand Marshal's Claymore | Repriced October 1 — check current vendor | 20 AV each |
| Premier Grand Marshal's Hand Cannon Premier Grand Marshal's Swiftblade Premier Grand Marshal's Mageblade Premier Grand Marshal's Handaxe Premier Grand Marshal's Warhammer Premier Grand Marshal's Longsword Premier Grand Marshal's Punisher Premier Grand Marshal's Dirk Premier Grand Marshal's Right Hand Blade Premier Grand Marshal's Left Hand Blade Premier Grand Marshal's Bullseye Premier Grand Marshal's Repeater | Repriced October 1 — check current vendor | 10 Darkspear each |
| Premier Grand Marshal's Aegis Premier Grand Marshal's Tome of Power Premier Grand Marshal's Tome of Restoration Premier Grand Marshal's Barricade | Repriced October 1 — check current vendor | 10 Darkspear each |
How Much Does Armor Plus a Rank 14 Weapon Cost?
| Purchase plan | Current Honor total | Combined Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Armor and seven priced upgrades + two-handed weapon | Recalculate with current October vendor prices | 35 AB / 35 WSG / 35 AV / 10 Darkspear |
| Armor and seven priced upgrades + one-handed weapon | Recalculate with current October vendor prices | 35 AB / 35 WSG / 15 AV / 20 Darkspear |
| Armor and seven priced upgrades + one off-hand | Recalculate with current October vendor prices | 35 AB / 35 WSG / 15 AV / 20 Darkspear |
Each scenario includes one Rank 14 purchase, not a full class-specific best-in-slot loadout. A one-handed main-hand plus off-hand requires both items. Weapons remain inaccessible until Rank 14, which the current beta schedule permits from week 10. Exact Honor totals should be added only after the current vendor prices are rechecked.
PvP Vendors and Where to Spend Honor
Current beta data places the main PvP vendors in Stormwind's Champions' Hall and Orgrimmar's Hall of Legends. Additional vendor records are associated with Dalaran. Check your actual rank, current Honor balance and live vendor requirements before buying, especially after the October 1 repricing.
Verified item references include the Insignia of the Alliance, Alliance Battle Standard and Horde Battle Standard.
How to Enter Battlegrounds and Earn PvP Marks
According to current beta information, Warsong Gulch is available from level 10. The level-30 cap now also makes the 30-39 brackets reachable. Players can queue through eligible Battlemasters or enter through Battleground portals where available. Higher-level Battleground content remains outside the current beta cap.
A Battleground win currently awards three map-specific Marks of Honor plus bonus Honor, while a loss awards one Mark. For equipment planning, match your next purchase to the map providing its required Marks instead of playing only the map with the shortest queue.
All Four WoW Forever Battlegrounds
| Battleground | Format | Current beta brackets | Primary objective |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warsong Gulch | 10v10 | 10–19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60 | Capture enemy flags |
| Arathi Basin | 15v15 | 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60 | Capture and defend bases |
| Darkspear Islands | 15v15 | 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60 | Control four bases and capture the central flag |
| Alterac Valley | 40v40 | 51–60 | Complete large-scale faction objectives |
Darkspear Islands: New Battleground and PvP Reputation
Darkspear Islands combines four capturable bases with a central flag in a 15v15 Battleground. Controlled bases generate points over time. Current beta information indicates that delivering the central flag to a friendly base adds points, with its value depending on the bases your team controls. Final scoring, precise routes and capture timers remain subject to confirmation.
The new Battleground also introduces faction-specific reputation: Theramore Expeditionary Force for the Alliance and Darkspear Raiders for the Horde. Published beta rewards include trinkets at Friendly, jewelry at Honored, weapons at Revered and additional gear or cosmetics at Exalted. Reaching Exalted with the Darkspear Islands reputation also counts toward one of the four Battleground-reputation PvP Legacy Points.
See the WoW Forever Reputations Guide for faction rewards. Our Darkspear Islands Battleground Guide covers the new map and its objectives in detail.
PvP Rewards: Black War Mounts, Battle Standards and Titles
Black War Mounts unlock at Rank 11, theoretically accessible from season week seven under the current beta schedule. Rank 7 unlocks faction battle standards. The beta descriptions indicate a 15% maximum-health bonus for nearby allies in Battlegrounds, a two-minute duration and a ten-minute cooldown.
PvP titles are earned through rank progression. Mounts, equipment and other vendor rewards generally need to be purchased after their rank requirement has been met. The final prices and availability may change before release.
Five Rank-Based PvP Legacy Points
Blizzard's official Legacy breakdown confirms five rank-related PvP Legacy Challenges, awarding one Legacy Point at Ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14. These are only part of the PvP category: PvP awards 12 Legacy Points in total. Four more come from reaching Exalted with each Battleground reputation, and three come from completing the Week 4, Week 7 and Week 10 quests in the Field of Honor PvP Season's Journey.
Players interested in the elite armor appearances can focus on Rank 13 under the present beta unlock structure. Rank 14 provides access to the epic weapon arsenal and the fifth rank-related Legacy milestone. The WoW Forever Legacy System Guide explains the wider progression system.
Honor Farming and Your Weekly PvP Plan
The most efficient Battleground for Honor cannot be established reliably before launch. Final Honor payouts, queue times, player win rates and the required Marks for your next purchase can all change the result. A practical weekly plan combines Rank Point progression with equipment purchases.
- Check your current rank, Rank Points and available weekly rank ceiling after the reset.
- Choose your next equipment upgrade and check its current Honor and map-specific Mark requirements.
- Queue for Battlegrounds that advance both your rank and the Marks needed for that purchase.
- Compare actual Honor and Rank Points gained per hour, including queue time, rather than relying on estimates from older Classic versions.
- Spend Honor before reaching the 25,000 holding cap, and continue with reputation or equipment goals after reaching your available weekly rank.
For assistance with eligible PvP farming, see our WoW Forever Honor Farm service. Honor and Rank Points remain separate objectives; earning a fixed amount of Honor does not guarantee a specific rank.
Normal vs. PvP Rulesets and Cross-Ruleset Battlegrounds
You do not need to select the PvP ruleset to enter Battlegrounds. Blizzard has confirmed that eligible players from Normal, PvP and Roleplaying rulesets may meet in Battleground queues. Hardcore remains separate when it becomes available. Ordinary groups for dungeons and raids cannot be formed across rulesets.
The PvP ruleset enables automatic open-world faction combat in contested territory and restricts characters to one faction within that ruleset. Normal offers opt-in open-world PvP. Faction-balance restrictions may temporarily limit character creation on the overrepresented side of the PvP ruleset.
For the complete breakdown, read Blizzard's official ruleset announcement and our WoW Forever Servers and Rulesets Guide.
PvP Classes, Roles and Talent Builds
The strongest class for a particular PvP situation depends on whether you want to carry flags, defend objectives, heal a coordinated group or fight in the open world. The current level-30 beta gives characters 21 talent points and a much broader toolkit than the original level-20 phase, but final level-60 PvP balance remains untested.
Our WoW Forever Class and PvP Tier List covers the class comparisons. You can test individual talent combinations using WoW Forever Tools and review class-specific advantages in the Racial Abilities Guide.
Sources and Methodology
ExpCarry independently calculated the original September equipment budgets and theoretical minimum Battleground wins from publicly available beta vendor prices and Mark rewards. Blizzard changed most PvP Honor prices on October 1, so those historical Honor budgets are no longer current. Official Blizzard announcements take priority over the older beta price tables.
