The Unbinding of Kith'ix is a new single-boss raid coming to World of Warcraft: Midnight with Patch 12.1.5. Kith'ix is a C'Thraxxi general imprisoned beneath the Venomous Abyss whose restraints weaken after Ula'tek's defeat. The encounter is fought with Lady Liadrin and is available in Story Mode, Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic and Mythic difficulties.
Quick strategy: Phase 1 is about controlling the Voidswarm, killing aqir before Suffocating Darkness, using Lady Liadrin's protection against Extinguish, and keeping dangerous adds away from Kith'ix. At 25% health, the fight changes into a final damage race. Liadrin grants the raid Luminous Grace, while Kith'ix begins Eightfold Eclipse. Kill him before the final eclipse reaches Liadrin.
Latest loot levels: Raid Finder 285, Normal 298, Heroic 311 and Mythic 324. The early PTR version that showed Mythic loot at 344 / Myth 9/6 is outdated.
What Is The Unbinding of Kith'ix?
The Unbinding of Kith'ix is not a new eight-boss tier and does not replace The Venomous Abyss. It is a focused one-boss raid added during Midnight Season 2. Blizzard places the encounter beneath the Venomous Abyss and uses it as the final confrontation in the Quel'Thalas and Zul'Aman storyline of Patch 12.1.5.
Kith'ix is fought alongside Lady Liadrin. She is not simply a story NPC standing outside the arena: her abilities are a core part of the encounter. Players use her Light to survive the advancing darkness in Phase 1, and she enables the final burn phase at 25% health.
| Difficulty | Raid format | Current loot level |
|---|---|---|
| Story Mode | Story-focused version | Not published as normal raid loot |
| Raid Finder | Matchmade | 285 — Veteran 3/6 |
| Normal | Standard flexible raid | 298 — Champion 3/6 |
| Heroic | Standard flexible raid | 311 — Hero 3/6 |
| Mythic | Flexible 15–25 players | 324 — Myth 3/6 |
Do not use old Myth 9/6 tables. Early Patch 12.1.5 PTR data showed Mythic Kith'ix dropping item level 344 gear. A later build reduced the boss to item level 324, Myth 3/6. Those pieces can still be upgraded through the Myth track.
Kith'ix Boss Strategy
The encounter has two clearly different stages. Most of the mechanical work happens before 25% health. The final quarter is a short execution and damage check.
Phase 1 — Darkness' Domain
Kith'ix repeatedly opens portals with Voidswarm, bringing aqir into the fight. The key rule is simple: do not let dangerous adds remain alive when Suffocating Darkness begins. Surviving aqir can receive Dark Frenzy, becoming much harder to control while also adding raid-wide pressure.
- Move priority adds away from Kith'ix.
Kith'ix has Commanding Presence, which reduces damage taken by nearby aqir. If the add is sitting beside the boss, your raid is making its own add check harder. - Kill or control the Voidswarm before 100 energy.
Suffocating Darkness begins when Kith'ix reaches 100 energy. Remaining adds become a major liability once the arena starts closing in. - Stay near Lady Liadrin's safe area during Suffocating Darkness.
Her Refulgent Bulwark slows the darkness while she builds energy toward Divine Radiance. - Remove Abyssal Grasp quickly.
This creates a healing absorb on targeted players. If healers do not clear it in time, the player is dragged into the darkness. - Take Light's Embrace before Extinguish.
Liadrin creates motes of Light that greatly reduce incoming Shadow damage. Extinguish is the raid-wide hit you are preparing for.
Voidswarm Adds
Uses Venom Roar in a frontal cone. Tanks should face it away from the raid. On Heroic and Mythic it also carries Incubation.
Applies sustained Shadow pressure through Voidweave and stacking Nightfall. Heroic and Mythic versions also use Incubation.
Fixates players and explodes on contact or after its timer, applying Digestive Juices. Avoid triggering several explosions together.
Spawned through Incubation on higher difficulties. It flies to a player, stuns the target and applies Nature damage.
Suffocating Darkness and Lady Liadrin
When Kith'ix reaches 100 energy, darkness closes around the group. Liadrin's Refulgent Bulwark slows that collapse. When she reaches full energy she casts Divine Radiance, removes the darkness and stuns Kith'ix for eight seconds.
The catch is Exhausted. Each Divine Radiance makes later cycles more dangerous, so Phase 1 is not designed to continue forever. Efficient add kills and clean boss damage matter even before the 25% transition.
Extinguish
Before Extinguish lands, players should collect Light's Embrace from Liadrin. This is not an optional movement bonus: the buff is the intended answer to an otherwise extremely dangerous Shadow hit.
Unspeakable Horrors
Targeted players eventually suffer Overwhelming Fear. When the fear expires or is removed, the player releases raid damage that becomes weaker with distance. Spread these players away from the group rather than dispelling several in the middle of the raid.
Tank Mechanic — Dark Devastation
Dark Devastation hits the active tank and applies Devastated, greatly increasing subsequent Physical and Shadow damage taken. Tanks should swap around this debuff rather than attempting to absorb repeated hits.
On Heroic and Mythic, Dark Devastation also leaves a Voidscar. During Suffocating Darkness, these scars generate Eclipse Fragments that move toward Lady Liadrin. Players need to prevent fragments from reaching her, because successful fragments weaken the protective area around Liadrin.
Bomber Beetles and Digestive Juices
Bomber Beetles fixate players and trigger Gut Reaction when they collide with someone or reach the end of their timer. The explosion applies Digestive Juices to the raid. Because the effect stacks, detonating multiple beetles almost simultaneously creates much more dangerous healing pressure than spacing them apart.
Phase 2 — Last Light at 25%
At 25% health Kith'ix uses Stygian Howl, stuns the raid and consumes his remaining minions and Phase 1 abilities. Lady Liadrin responds with Last Light, fully healing players and granting Luminous Grace, which dramatically increases raid damage and healing.
This is the burn phase.
Eightfold Eclipse
Kith'ix begins manifesting a sequence of eclipses. When the final eclipse reaches Lady Liadrin, her Light is extinguished and the raid dies. There is no third phase to recover into: use offensive cooldowns and finish the boss.
Null Gate and Nullify
Kith'ix targets players with Null Gate. Place these gates away from the group where they remain usable without cutting off movement space. Nullshards created by the gates apply Nullify; reaching four stacks is lethal.
Tank Mechanic — Negation
The active tank receives Negation. Touching a Null Gate removes the effect and destroys that gate, but the removal causes an explosion around the tank. Give the tank space.
On Mythic, Negation applies multiple stacks and its expiration damage depends on how many stacks remain, making gate management considerably more important.

The practical jump from Normal to Heroic is larger than simply adding health. Heroic adds extra creatures after add deaths and forces the raid to manage Voidscar fragments during darkness cycles. Mythic then layers additional Incubation pressure and more complicated Negation handling on top.
Kith'ix Loot Table
Kith'ix has a compact but unusually high-value loot pool. Current 12.1.5 data contains 10 equipment drops: four special armor pieces, two swords, three role-focused trinkets and one ring. The boss also has collectible rewards.
| Item | Slot | What makes it special |
|---|---|---|
| Voidweaver's Vestments | Cloth — Chest | Void Eruption cantrip; 15% stronger while Venomcursed |
| Leggings of Palpable Terror | Leather — Legs | Void Eruption cantrip; 15% stronger while Venomcursed |
| Aberrant Commander's Gauntlets | Mail — Hands | Void Eruption cantrip; 15% stronger while Venomcursed |
| Corroded Hulk's Skullcap | Plate — Head | Void Eruption cantrip; 15% stronger while Venomcursed |
| Sanctified Knight's Phoenixblade | One-Hand Intellect Sword | Healing can damage a nearby enemy; damaging spells can heal an ally |
| Lu'selama, Light's Justice | Two-Hand Strength Sword | Damage can activate a Haste window and additional Radiant strikes |
| Lightbearer's Shield Fragment | Tank Trinket | Creates a defensive area, absorbs damage and redirects part of nearby allies' damage to the tank |
| Twisted Horror's Tendril | DPS Trinket | Damage grants overlapping Critical Strike buffs; new targets can accelerate stacks |
| Sigil of the Impending Eclipse | Healer Trinket | Healing can grant Haste, scaling with the target's missing health |
| Band of the Swarmcaller | Ring | Haste/Mastery ring with an AoE Nature-damage proc |
Kith'ix Cantrip Armor and the Catalyst
The four armor drops are especially important because every one occupies a normal tier-set slot:
- Cloth — chest;
- Leather — legs;
- Mail — hands;
- Plate — head.
Their Void Eruption effect can deal Shadow damage around the player and is increased by 15% while the character is Venomcursed. That creates direct synergy with Venomcursed gear from Ula'tek.
Important: these armor pieces can be valuable even when you need tier in the same slot. Midnight's Catalyst system allows an eligible cantrip item to be converted into its class-set version while retaining the cantrip effect. That means a Kith'ix armor drop can combine its special effect with your Season 2 tier bonus.
Which Kith'ix Trinkets Matter?
An active three-minute defensive. The tank creates a protective ground effect and can absorb redirected damage from allies standing within it. This can become valuable when raid-wide damage overlaps a tank-safe window.
Designed around Critical Strike stacks and target swapping. Its guaranteed stack interaction on a new target makes the trinket particularly interesting in encounters and dungeons with frequent target changes.
Can grant Haste from healing, with additional value when healing a low-health target. Its practical strength will depend on live proc tuning and healer specialization.
Kith'ix Collectibles and Achievements
Current pre-release data includes:
- Kith'ix's Seal — Housing decor;
- Shadeweaver's Hearthstone — Hearthstone toy;
- Kith'ix — defeat the boss on any difficulty;
- Heroic: Kith'ix — Heroic defeat;
- Mythic: Kith'ix — Mythic defeat.
No separate Kith'ix Ahead of the Curve or Cutting Edge achievement is currently present in the available 12.1.5 achievement data. Season 2's AotC remains tied to Ula'tek rather than this mid-season boss.
How to Prepare for Kith'ix
- Finish your normal Season 2 gearing first.
Kith'ix is additional Season 2 content, not a reset. Existing Venomous Abyss, Mythic+, Great Vault and crafted gear remain relevant. - Keep good Venomcursed items.
The Kith'ix armor cantrips gain extra damage while Venomcursed, so those Ula'tek pieces can gain new value. - Do not lock your Catalyst decisions too early.
If Kith'ix drops the cantrip armor slot for your armor type, that piece can be a particularly strong Catalyst candidate. - Plan add control for Heroic and Mythic.
Stops and positioning matter because surviving aqir become dangerous during Suffocating Darkness. - Save burst cooldowns for 25% when progression requires it.
Phase 2 ends with Eightfold Eclipse, not another normal raid cycle.
Kith'ix: What Matters Most
Kith'ix is a short raid with unusually concentrated rewards. The encounter revolves around killing aqir before Suffocating Darkness, using Lady Liadrin's Light correctly, handling tank swaps and heal absorbs, then executing a hard burn from 25%. Heroic introduces Voidscar and extra Incubation pressure; Mythic adds further add pressure and a more complicated Negation mechanic.
For loot, the four cantrip armor pieces are the standout because they occupy tier slots and interact with Venomcursed gear. The weapons, Haste/Mastery ring and three role-based trinkets give almost every raid role at least one reason to return after the first kill.
