WoW Midnight Patch 12.2 Eclipse will close the expansion's major content cycle. It sends players below Azeroth into the Mantle Vault and then toward the Worldcore, where Xal'atath and the Devouring Host are trying to reach the Worldsoul. Blizzard has announced one new three-boss dungeon, an eight-boss main raid, a separate one-boss Lair, a complete Season 3 Mythic+ rotation, new Delve progression, a harder Prey mode, Housing upgrades, and three additional Paladin race options. The patch has no confirmed release date or PTR schedule yet.

The important distinction is that Eclipse and Midnight Season 3 will not begin at exactly the same time. Blizzard says Season 3 starts shortly after Patch 12.2 launches. Raid access, Mythic+ progression, the new PvP season, and seasonal rewards therefore belong to a later opening phase even though they are part of the same overall update cycle. This article covers the full announcement while separating launch features, Season 3 content, Patch 12.2.5 additions, and details Blizzard has not published.

WoW Midnight Patch 12.2 Eclipse Release Date and Latest Status

Blizzard announced Eclipse during BlizzCon 2026 on September 12, 2026. The Opening Ceremony recap identified it as Patch 12.2, while the later Midnight panel supplied the zone, raid, dungeon, and Season 3 details. Neither announcement gives a calendar date.

Midnight Season 3Raid season, Mythic+, PvP, and Delve progressionStarts shortly after Eclipse
Eclipse PTRNo test date announcedUnknown
Patch 12.2.5Cross-armor-type transmog restrictions removedAfter Eclipse, exact date unknown

Players should not use the current 12.1.5 PTR schedule to predict an Eclipse launch day. Patch 12.1.5 is a separate mid-season update and still needs to complete its own testing and live release. Blizzard could reveal the next schedule through a roadmap, development post, or PTR announcement, but no specific week is official now.

The World of Warcraft services hub currently covers live Midnight content rather than unreleased Eclipse encounters. Future Patch 12.2 options would only become relevant after the update and its seasonal activities are available.

WoW Midnight 12.2 Story: What Happens After Patch 12.1.5

Eclipse moves Midnight's conflict away from the surface and toward the center of Azeroth. Xal'atath is closer than ever to the Worldsoul, and the forces of the Light intend to strike the Devouring Host before she completes her plan. Players will descend through hidden Titan facilities, recruit the Thraegar, and fight toward the Worldcore itself.

Patch 12.1.5 provides the immediate bridge. After the events involving Ula'tek on the Coiled Isle, players enter Kith'ix's prison in The Promise of Tomorrow campaign and the single-boss Unbinding of Kith'ix raid. Blizzard presents that story as the conclusion of the Ula'tek and Kith'ix chapter, not as part of Eclipse. The sequence is therefore 12.1.5 first, followed later by the deeper descent in 12.2.

The broader expansion context remains the battle between Light and Void introduced throughout Midnight. The official Midnight overview establishes Xal'atath's invasion, while Eclipse brings her attempt to claim Azeroth's Worldsoul to the Worldcore. Blizzard says the raid will lay her motivations bare, but it has not published those story revelations in advance.

The clearest confirmed endpoint is a direct battle with Xal'atath in the Worldcore. Blizzard's official recap confirms her as a raid opponent and refers to her defeat, but it does not publish the encounter order or explain her final fate. Eclipse concludes Midnight's major patch story, not the full three-expansion Worldsoul Saga. The Last Titan remains the final chapter.

Players who need to catch up before this finale can use the WoW Midnight returning player guide to place the current campaigns and expansion systems in order. Eclipse assumes familiarity with Xal'atath, the Worldsoul, and the events that lead below Azeroth, so rushing directly to the final patch would remove much of the story context.

WoW 12.2 Mantle Vault Zone: Thraegar and Deepskar Empire

The Mantle Vault is the principal outdoor zone in WoW Midnight Patch 12.2 Eclipse. Blizzard describes it as an enormous Titan vault concealed for ages beneath Azeroth. Its environment combines ancient machinery with an ecology built from stone and Azerite, including crystalline elementals, stone worms, and other creatures adapted to the depths.

This is not another island added beside the existing Midnight map. The zone advances the downward route to the Worldcore and gives the final patch a setting that is both natural and constructed. Titan architecture defines the location, but living Azerite and the Worldsoul's distress prevent it from feeling like an empty mechanical complex.

The Thraegar become the player's main new allies. Blizzard describes them as an ancient crystalline people with a dwarflike appearance. They will help defend the Mantle Vault against the Devouring Host, but the announcement does not call them an Allied Race or promise that they will become playable. Their confirmed role is narrative and military.

A third force complicates the Light against Void conflict. The Deepskar Empire is a hostile underground coalition formed from kobolds, troggs, drogbar, and niffen leadership. Blizzard has not explained why these groups are cooperating, what territory they control, or whether their hostility can eventually become an alliance. For now, they are a separate local power rather than servants of Xal'atath.

WoW 12.2 Raids: The Worldcore and The Gearhold Lair

Eclipse introduces two raid-scale destinations with very different structures. The Worldcore is the main eight-boss raid and the destination of the patch campaign. The Gearhold is a Lair built around one encounter with Noctinaxx. Treating both as ordinary full raids would hide the difference in size and difficulty design.

Raid contentBosses announcedConfirmed enemiesConfirmed difficulties
The WorldcoreEightXal'atath, Void forces, living Azerite, and Titan constructsNot listed yet
The Gearhold LairOneNoctinaxx, an enormous Azerite batWorld plus Normal, Heroic, and flexible Mythic

The Worldcore is where Blizzard intends to reveal what Xal'atath actually wants and force the expansion's decisive confrontation. Xal'atath is included among the raid opponents, but Blizzard has not released the complete boss order. The other seven encounter names, mechanics, wings, Story Mode access, Raid Finder schedule, and item levels remain unknown.

The Gearhold has a more unusual difficulty model. Blizzard announced a World setting alongside Normal, Heroic, and flexible Mythic versions of Noctinaxx. The exact player counts, lockouts, loot tracks, and relationship between the World and instanced formats have not been defined. The presentation only establishes the four labels and the single boss.

The split gives Season 3 two different group objectives: an eight-boss progression raid and a single-boss Lair. Blizzard has not yet published the Gearhold's loot tables, lockout rules, group-size details, or tuning, so its weekly role cannot be evaluated reliably yet.

Current WoW raid services apply to raids already available on live servers. The Worldcore and Gearhold will require separate encounter support after their final mechanics, difficulties, and regional opening schedule are known.

Midnight's Edge Legendary Caster Dagger in WoW 12.2

Midnight's Edge is a Legendary caster dagger obtained through the Worldcore raid. Blizzard calls it the first Legendary weapon of both Midnight and the Worldsoul Saga. It is explicitly not the Blade of the Black Empire, preventing the visual resemblance and Xal'atath connection from being mistaken for a return of the old artifact.

Defeating the raid is only one step in the acquisition process. Blizzard has not revealed the remaining quest stages, required drops, eligible classes or specializations, difficulty requirements, crafting components, weekly limits, or bad-luck protection. Calling it a guaranteed reward for one Xal'atath kill would therefore be inaccurate.

The weapon does not yet have a verified live item entry with final stats, effects, or an item level. Until the PTR or an official item preview appears, there is no reliable way to rank it against Season 3 weapons or determine which caster benefits most. The class eligibility question is especially important because a dagger can fit several Intellect specializations but not every caster can equip one.

Thraegar's Stand Dungeon in WoW Patch 12.2

Thraegar's Stand is the only newly announced five-player dungeon for Patch 12.2. It contains three encounters and will enter the Midnight Season 3 Mythic+ pool. Its excavation theme connects the Thraegar, Azerite ecology, and Titan defenses inside the Mantle Vault.

  1. Cragcleaver and Foreman Sullk: two excavation foremen who share the first named encounter.
  2. Monokk: an Azerite elemental and the second announced boss.
  3. Stenvarg the Inevitable: a deadly Titan construct positioned as the dungeon's final named threat.

The boss identities are official, but their abilities, trash forces, route, timer, checkpoints, loot table, and entrance location have not been published. Any complete route or boss strategy released before playable testing would be guesswork. What can be planned now is only the dungeon's place in the seasonal pool.

WoW Midnight Season 3 Mythic+ Dungeon Rotation

Season 3 uses eight dungeons: the new Thraegar's Stand, two returning Midnight instances, and five legacy choices. Blizzard lists the complete pool in its official Midnight What's Next panel recap. Magisters' Terrace and Maisara Cavern will receive changes and touch-ups for their return, but those revisions have not been detailed.

The StonecoreCataclysmLegacy return
Iron DocksWarlords of DraenorLegacy return
The UnderrotBattle for AzerothLegacy return
Sanguine DepthsShadowlandsLegacy return
Uldaman: Legacy of TyrDragonflightLegacy return

The pool spans very different dungeon eras and encounter styles. The Underrot rewards controlled pathing, Iron Docks has large pull spaces, Sanguine Depths is more corridor-driven, and The Stonecore brings older geometry into the modern Mythic+ environment. Those observations describe their historical identities, not their final Season 3 tuning. Blizzard can revise enemy packs, mechanics, checkpoints, or routes before release.

Compared with the Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ rotation, only part of the expansion roster returns. Players should not assume that current dungeon knowledge, affix behavior, or reward breakpoints will transfer unchanged. Season 3 keystone levels, item levels, upgrade currencies, affixes, and Great Vault thresholds have not been announced.

WoW Midnight Season 3 Mythic+ Rewards: Top 1% and Top 5% by Spec

Blizzard is changing the highest seasonal Mythic+ rankings in Season 3. A new reward tier will recognize players who finish among the top 5%, while eligibility for both the top 1% and top 5% rewards will be calculated within each specialization rather than against the full Mythic+ population.

A Protection Warrior will therefore be compared with other Protection Warriors for these percentile rewards, and the same rule applies to every participating specialization. The change does not automatically make the cutoff easier, because players still need to finish inside the required percentile for their own specialization.

The actual reward items and titles have not been named, and Blizzard has not published the final calculation rules. Players still need clarification on regional versus global ladders, faction handling, minimum run requirements, disqualifications, cutoff snapshots, and how specialization switching affects eligibility. The announced change is the comparison group, not the final rating target.

WoW Midnight Season 3 Delves: Valeera and Astalor Bloodsworn

Valeera Sanguinar remains part of Delve progression in Season 3. Her progression cap will increase, new Curios will become available, and existing Delves will gain additional variations. Blizzard has not stated the new cap, Curio effects, tier scaling, or seasonal reward item levels.

Astalor Bloodsworn is the new Delve Nemesis. Blizzard describes his challenge as optional, following the established idea that the hardest Delve objective sits beyond ordinary progression. His arena, abilities, unlock requirement, difficulty variants, achievements, and rewards are still hidden.

The announcement connects Astalor to the player's investigations in the Mantle Vault and the expanded Prey system. That gives him a role beyond an isolated optional boss, but Blizzard has not explained whether Delve progress is required for the main campaign or the Worldcore raid. Players should treat Delves as a parallel Season 3 track unless a future quest requirement says otherwise.

WoW 12.2 Agony Mode and Prey Changes

Prey receives new targets, new Torments, and a final difficulty called Agony Mode. These hunts take place in the Mantle Vault after Xal'atath's actions disturb the depths beneath Azeroth. The patch also links the player's investigation to Astalor, creating a bridge between the open-world hunt and Delve progression.

Blizzard has not provided Agony Mode's unlock condition, recommended gear, death rules, reward track, target list, or whether the difficulty can be attempted solo and in a group under the same rules. The word "final" identifies it as the top Prey difficulty, not proof of a specific item level or Mythic-equivalent reward.

Radiant Screams form a separate outdoor feature in the same zone. The Worldsoul's distress produces disturbances that call players to respond around the Mantle Vault. No event cadence, map markers, participation limits, objectives, currency, reputation, or reward list has been announced, so it is too early to describe Radiant Screams as a world event rotation or farming route.

WoW 12.2 New Paladin Races: Forsaken, Night Elf, and Troll

Patch 12.2 opens the Paladin class to three more races: Forsaken, Night Elves, and Trolls. This is a confirmed expansion of class and race combinations, not a new Paladin specialization or a separate allied-race feature.

Blizzard has not shown race-specific Paladin mounts, class quests, visual effects, lore introductions, heritage interactions, or special unlock requirements for these combinations. No free class change or special conversion method has been announced.

Only the three named race options are confirmed for Patch 12.2. Blizzard has not announced universal Paladin access for every remaining race.

WoW 12.2 Housing, Calibration Chamber, and PvP Updates

Patch 12.2 also adds several account and quality-of-life features outside raids and dungeons. Housing receives a public Showcase system, mannequins, interface improvements, easier access to duplicate decor, and four new Endeavors. The Calibration Chamber provides a more controlled environment for combat testing, while PvP progression gains a new Journey.

  • Housing Showcase: browse featured homes, visit submitted designs, and submit a saved snapshot of your own house.
  • Visitor Codes: create a shareable code from a housing snapshot.
  • Showcase rewards: selected events can offer exclusive decor, although no reward list is available.
  • Mannequins: display unlocked armor and weapon appearances inside a house.
  • Copy-paste: duplicate decor properties such as size, rotation, and dye when the required extra items and dyes are owned.
  • Multi-select: move or rotate several decor objects around one pivot.
  • Home purchasing: buy additional copies of decor already owned without returning to its original vendor.
  • Housing Endeavors: four are planned, including Stormriders of the Isle of Dorn.

The Calibration Chamber lets a party or raid test rotations against different target dummies. Advanced controls include cooldown resets and full raid buffs, making it more useful than a basic training-dummy area for coordinated practice. Blizzard has not explained access requirements, group-size limits, encounter scripting, damage-reporting tools, or whether the chamber can simulate specific boss conditions.

The new PvP Journey is currently only a headline. Blizzard promises PvP rewards but has not shown the progression steps, rating requirements, queue types, seasonal cosmetics, or relationship to the normal Honor and Conquest systems. It belongs to the announced Eclipse package, but there is not enough information for a route or reward guide.

How to Prepare for WoW Patch 12.2 Eclipse

There is no Eclipse checklist with permanent deadlines yet because the release date, item levels, currencies, and removal notices are unknown. Players can still prepare without gambling on unofficial information by completing the story in order and keeping their character roster flexible.

  1. Finish the Midnight campaign: the Worldcore confrontation depends on the expansion's Xal'atath and Worldsoul storyline.
  2. Complete Patch 12.1 and 12.1.5 when live: these chapters resolve the Coiled Isle and Kith'ix thread before the descent in Eclipse.
  3. Choose possible Season 3 characters: the top percentile Mythic+ change makes specialization choice more relevant, but final balance is still unknown.
  4. Do not buy or stockpile speculative materials: no Midnight's Edge components, upgrade currency, or Season 3 crafting requirements are confirmed.
  5. Wait for PTR data before learning routes: Thraegar's Stand and the legacy dungeon revisions can change during testing.
  6. Watch for removal notices: Blizzard has not yet identified which Season 2 achievements, titles, mounts, or ratings become unavailable.

Players planning to focus on the new rotation can use current WoW Mythic+ services for live keys, but nothing on the present page confirms a Season 3 route, reward, or Eclipse dungeon option. Those details must wait for the live seasonal schedule.

What Is Not Included in WoW Patch 12.2 Eclipse at Launch

The BlizzCon panel covered several future World of Warcraft updates beside Eclipse. Keeping them separate prevents the Patch 12.2 feature list from becoming misleading.

Cross-armor-type transmog arrives in Patch 12.2.5, not the initial 12.2 release. Blizzard says armor-type restrictions will be removed for transmog appearances, but detailed collection and class-rule exceptions have not been published. Talebound belongs to the separate Echoes of the Worldcore update, while Wrath of the Lich King Remix is another future experience. Neither should be advertised as an Eclipse launch mode.

The Last Titan is also not Patch 12.2 content. Eclipse closes Midnight's major update cycle and establishes the next story transition, while The Last Titan is a separate expansion and the final part of the Worldsoul Saga. Blizzard has not revealed the complete link between the Worldcore raid ending and the next expansion.

WoW Patch 12.2 Eclipse: What Blizzard Has Not Announced Yet

The first presentation defines the shape of Eclipse but leaves most tuning, rewards, and launch logistics for later. The following information is not official yet.

  • Patch 12.2 release date, regional maintenance times, and PTR start date.
  • The campaign chapter list and the exact unlock route into the Mantle Vault.
  • Worldcore boss names beyond Xal'atath, raid wings, difficulties, and release schedule.
  • The Gearhold group-size rules, lockouts, and loot tables.
  • Season 3 item levels, tier sets, upgrade tracks, Catalyst timing, and Great Vault rewards.
  • Mythic+ timers, affixes, enemy count, portals, and rating cutoffs.
  • Midnight's Edge eligibility, effects, quest steps, and acquisition limits.
  • Delve cap increases, Curios, Nemesis rewards, and new variations.
  • Agony Mode rules and Radiant Screams objectives or rewards.
  • PvP Journey stages and the Season 3 PvP reward list.
  • Forsaken, Night Elf, and Troll Paladin presentation details.

Until these details appear in official previews or on the PTR, the safest publication approach is to describe the announced destinations and systems without inventing progression routes. Eclipse is a confirmed patch with a clear endgame structure, but it is not yet a finished guideable build.

WoW Midnight Patch 12.2 Eclipse: What We Know So Far

WoW Midnight Patch 12.2 Eclipse sends the expansion toward the destination its story has been building around: Azeroth's Worldcore. Players will cross the Mantle Vault with the Thraegar, face the Deepskar Empire and the Devouring Host, enter Thraegar's Stand, fight Noctinaxx in the Gearhold, and confront Xal'atath across the eight-boss Worldcore raid. Season 3 then adds the eight-dungeon Mythic+ rotation, specialization-based percentile rewards, expanded Delves, a PvP season, and new endgame progression.

The announcement is broad enough to show that Eclipse is a full final tier rather than a short epilogue, but its most practical details are still missing. There is no launch date, PTR schedule, item-level table, raid calendar, complete boss list, or finished reward structure. The right preparation is to complete Midnight and Patch 12.1.5 in order, avoid speculative farming, and wait for official testing before treating any route, build, loot list, or release estimate as settled.
