Need Help with Mythic+ Progress?

Valeera Sanguinar remains your Delve companion in World of Warcraft: Midnight Season 2, but her optimal setup changed substantially in Patch 12.1. Season 2 gives Valeera a fresh set of Combat and Utility Curios, a separate selectable Poison slot, three additional poisons unlocked through the seasonal introduction, and a new maximum companion level of 80.

For most solo DPS characters, the safest all-purpose setup is Healer Valeera + Frostheart Venom + Corrosive Bilespear + Soul-Cracking Dreamcatcher. It combines sustain, enemy attack/cast-speed reduction, strong direct damage and an elite-target damage amplifier triggered by interrupts or crowd control. For healers, Tank Valeera is usually more practical in normal Delves, while Azta'rec specifically favors DPS Valeera so she can help cover lethal interrupts.

What Changed for Valeera in Season 2?

Patch 12.1 changes the companion loadout in several important ways:

  • Season 2 uses a new Curio set. Valeera equips one Combat Curio and one Utility Curio, and the Season 2 versions must be obtained and ranked again through Delve content.
  • Poisons are now selectable independently of Valeera's role. They are no longer permanently tied to Healer, Tank or Damage Dealer.
  • There are six poison choices. Bloodcrypt Toxin, Poison of the Forgotten Master and Soulthirst Venom are available immediately; Bursting Toad Toxin, Frostheart Venom and Phantasmal Spore Toxin unlock after the Season 2 introductory questline.
  • Valeera's level cap increases to 80. Higher levels improve her damage and healing, making companion progression relevant for Tier 8–11 Delves and the Season 2 Nemesis.

The practical result is that there is no longer one fixed "Healer poison" or "Tank poison." You can keep the role your character needs and independently choose the poison that solves the encounter.

Valeera Roles and Talents Explained

Valeera does not use a normal player-style talent tree with points and import strings. Choosing Damage Dealer, Healer or Tank changes the set of role abilities she can use. Her Curios and Poison are configured separately.

You can change the setup through the Delver's Guide, the Delves/Journeys interface, or the Delver's Supplies found at the beginning of a Delve and at checkpoints.

Healer Valeera

Healer is the best default for most solo DPS characters. It adds sustain while you handle interrupts, positioning and damage. It is also the recommended role for DPS and Tank players against Azta'rec because Valeera can remove the boss's dangerous magic debuff while you reserve your own interrupt for the lethal cast.

Use Healer when your main failure condition is health loss rather than a slow kill.

Tank Valeera

Tank is most useful for healers and vulnerable ranged characters in normal Delves. Valeera can keep pressure away from you and create cleaner casting windows. Direct her with the ping system when a specific elite or caster needs to be controlled first.

Tank is not automatically the correct Azta'rec choice for a healer, because that encounter places unusually high value on Valeera's interrupt coverage.

Damage Dealer Valeera

Damage Dealer is best when your own character already supplies reliable survival. Tanks can use DPS Valeera for faster routine Tier 8–11 runs, and healer players should strongly consider DPS Valeera for Azta'rec because the companion can assist with the encounter's critical interrupt while the player handles the dispel.

Best Combat Curios for Valeera in Season 2

Season 2 currently provides three Combat Curios. The old Season 1 recommendations such as Holy Bounding Hand Grenade, Sanctum's Edict, Nether Entropic Kris and Porcelain Blade Tip should not be used as the primary Season 2 loadout.

Combat CurioLive EffectBest Use
Corrosive BilespearCan impale the highest- and lowest-health nearby targets for heavy Nature damage. Damage is increased against Poisoned enemies.Best general damage choice and best Azta'rec default.
Essence TrapThe current live tooltip places a trap that slows enemies by 20% for 5 sec, then detonates and stuns enemies inside for 5 sec.Trash control, dangerous elite packs and characters that need extra breathing room.
Ouroboric CurseWhen a player's health falls below 50%, nearby enemies are Horrified for 8 sec and the player gains 30% Primary Stat plus 150% Leech, Avoidance and Speed for 20 sec. Base cooldown is 2 min; killing Poisoned enemies reduces it by 12 sec.Emergency survival and high-risk solo progression.

Best Combat Curio: Corrosive Bilespear

For a default Season 2 build, Corrosive Bilespear is the cleanest choice. It adds direct damage without asking you to play around a defensive trigger or wait for enemies to stand in a trap. Because its damage is increased against Poisoned enemies, it naturally synergizes with Valeera's mandatory Poison slot.

For Azta'rec, current Method recommendations also favor Corrosive Bilespear over the defensive alternative because the encounter has strict damage windows on the Echo.

Best Utility Curios for Valeera in Season 2

Utility CurioLive EffectBest Use
Soul-Cracking DreamcatcherInterrupting or crowd-controlling an Elite enemy makes it take increased damage. The exact value scales with Curio rank.Best boss/elite default and best Azta'rec utility Curio.
Dundun's FavorCan spawn a Mislaid Spirit in combat. Walking over a Mislaid Curiosity or Spirit automatically triggers a Volatile Sprite volley and loots the Curiosity.Valeera XP farming, fast routes and heavy Curiosity collection.
Venom InfusionParty members take a small periodic health cost but gain movement speed and Haste based on missing health; the behavior is reversed for the first 6 sec of combat.High-risk speed setups, not the safest progression default.

Best Utility Curio: Soul-Cracking Dreamcatcher

Soul-Cracking Dreamcatcher is the best general high-tier choice because dangerous Delve gameplay already revolves around interrupting and controlling Elite enemies. Instead of requiring a special route, it turns correct play into additional damage.

It is especially strong against Azta'rec because the fight repeatedly requires interrupt control, and the Echo on the highest Nemesis challenge can also be crowd-controlled.

All Valeera Poisons in Midnight Season 2

Valeera can equip one Poison independently from her role. Three are available immediately and three additional options are unlocked through the Season 2 Delve introduction.

PoisonEffectRecommended Use
Bloodcrypt ToxinEnemies hit by poisoned weapons deal 10% less damage and have 10% reduced Haste for 20 sec.Defensive progression and sustained incoming damage.
Poison of the Forgotten MasterIncreases all damage by 5% every 3 sec in combat, up to 5 stacks. Taking damage removes all stacks from that weapon's wielder.High-up-time offense when you can avoid incoming damage consistently.
Soulthirst VenomIncreases Leech, Avoidance and Speed by 10%.Simple survivability and mobility.
Bursting Toad ToxinAttacks can cause the target to erupt with Nature damage every second for 8 sec to enemies within 8 yards. 60% proc chance, 12 sec cooldown.Routine AoE Delves and faster pack clearing.
Frostheart VenomAttacks can reduce enemy movement speed by 30% and melee, ranged and casting speeds by 20% for 10 sec.Best high-tier/Nemesis control choice.
Phantasmal Spore ToxinAttacks can interrupt and Fear enemies for 1 sec. 60% proc chance with a 6 sec cooldown.Extra caster control when random automatic interrupts are valuable.

Best Valeera Poison: Frostheart Venom

For difficult Tier 8–11 content and especially Nemesis progression, Frostheart Venom is the strongest default control option. Its attack- and cast-speed reduction directly reduces pressure without relying on the player dropping below a health threshold.

For fast routine AoE runs, Bursting Toad Toxin can be more efficient. If pure survival is the problem, Bloodcrypt Toxin is the simpler defensive alternative.

Best Valeera Build for Azta'rec

Azta'rec in Venomfall Deeps has a different priority from ordinary Delves: dispel coverage, reliable interrupts and burst damage during the Echo intermissions matter more than generic trash efficiency.

Your RoleValeera RoleWhy
DPSHealerValeera can help remove Void Toxin while you reserve your interrupt for Soul Extinction.
TankHealerSame reason: extra sustain and dispel support are more valuable than ordinary speed-run damage.
HealerDamage DealerValeera contributes interrupt coverage while you dispel Void Toxin yourself.

Recommended Azta'rec loadout: Frostheart Venom + Corrosive Bilespear + Soul-Cracking Dreamcatcher.

For the full encounter strategy, memory sequence, Echo handling and rewards, use our Azta'rec Guide.

How to Change Valeera's Build

  1. Open the Delves/Journeys interface or use the Delver's Guide.
  2. Select Valeera's role: Damage Dealer, Healer or Tank.
  3. Choose one Combat Curio.
  4. Choose one Utility Curio.
  5. Select one Poison.
  6. Inside a Delve, use Delver's Supplies at the entrance or checkpoints if you need to adapt the setup.
  7. Use the ping system to direct Valeera toward dangerous priority targets.

Do not keep one configuration for every activity. The best Season 2 companion setup is the one that covers the weakness of your character and the failure condition of the current encounter.

Valeera Level Cap and Fast Leveling in Season 2

Valeera's Season 2 maximum level is 80, up from 60 in Season 1. Each level improves her damage and healing, so companion level matters much more when progressing toward Tier 11 and Azta'rec.

Dundun's Favor is particularly useful for Curiosity-heavy leveling routes because walking over Mislaid Curiosities can automatically loot them while also triggering extra attacks. Current player farming routes favor Delves with easy access to many Curiosities, but the exact fastest route can change after hotfixes.

If you want to skip the companion XP grind, see the Valeera Sanguinar Leveling service. For current gear breakpoints and weekly Delve rewards, use the Midnight Season 2 Delve Loot Table.

Common Valeera Build Mistakes

MistakeWhy It HurtsFix
Using Season 1 Curio recommendationsThe Season 2 Curio pool is different.Build around Corrosive Bilespear, Essence Trap or Ouroboric Curse plus the current Utility Curios.
Assuming poison is tied to Valeera's rolePatch 12.1 makes Poison a separate selectable slot.Choose role and poison independently.
Using DPS Valeera when you repeatedly dieMore theoretical damage does not compensate for failed pulls.Switch to Healer or Tank and stabilize the run first.
Using Tank Valeera on Azta'rec as a healerYou lose valuable interrupt support.Use DPS Valeera and cover Void Toxin yourself.
Ignoring Soul-Cracking Dreamcatcher on elite-heavy contentYou lose damage generated by correct interrupts and CC.Use it for bosses, elites and Nemesis progression.
Choosing a Curio only because its rank is higherThe effect may not solve the encounter's actual failure point.Prioritize function first, then rank.
